Sorry to hear this. What case did you have?

For example a Mate 9 is 190g too. And if it drops protected by a normal case the display and/or the frame will be damaged too. Like with any other mobile too. Only cases where an outer frame could kill the drops energy and where an inner frame keeps it's form could protect your device from being damaged if you drop it. Strong metal frames with a special layer inside of the frame could protect your device relatively good, too. I've dropped only two devices in my live, a Note 2, protected only with an aluminum bumper ordered in korea. Not a single damage after the drop. Only the frame got scratched but it kept it's form. The Note 7 was protected by an UAG case. No damages, too.
I've ordered an imatch metal case with leather back. Should provide a relatively good protection. But there's another metal one with an inner layer that looks like providing even more protection. Within the stock case, common silicon or hardcover cases your mix will be damaged for sure if you drop it.
Anyway, sorry your mix got damaged!

Is that a transparent TPU case?

yes thats the one. remember that the mix it's heavy so it did a good job on protecting it, if you want a full proteccion you will and up buying an ogly big case which will make the phone to look bigger and not as elegant as it is? so there is a compromise between looks or proteccion.

what did you drop the mix onto and from how far?

Waist high on concrete.

I used the luphie aluminium bumper, and I thought it saved me from many drops. When I tried to remove the bumper to replace the cracked screen, the middle frame crumble into pieces. The bumper didn't protect at all, it just keeping the pieces together. Now I'm waiting for the replacement to arrive :crying:

[Discussion] A full case really necessary? Bumper good enough?

This is the first phone I've owned where I ordered a case. My old phones (6800, Touch pro, touch pro 2, epic 4g... ) never really needed it as they had enough "plastic protection" (bulk) that dropping them didn't really cause much damage.
The more I think about it, the less it seems that a full case would really be necessary or beneficial. So my question, Is a case covering the back of the phone really necessary?
My thoughts on why its NOT:
Most (I would guess 99%) of drops end up hiting corners, not the front or back. Watch as many drop test videos as you want... how many of them drop flat on there back.... and out of those that drop flat on their back... how many land on a rock or something that pushes up past the rim (find one... I couldn't).
There isn't much need to protect on the back of the phone. If I were to drop my phone from head height and it landed flat on its back... on a rock... I would probably only crack the back cover.. which only costs like 3 bucks.
Protection from dirt... not. People like to say that a full back case would protect the phone from dirt. What they forget is that dirt will work its way into the case and small movements between the case and the phone will cause the phone to scratch on that dirt.
Doesn't really protect the camera. The only thing protecting the camera in the rim... which a bumper case has.
Also, I think a lot of the cases out there (the slim tpu cases, excluding the tech21 d30 case) probably don't provide much protection against screen cracking. Screen cracking seems to happen when you have a decent point load on the phone. More solid cases like aluminum bumpers, hard chell cases help distribute the point load to a larger surface area on the phone... causing less damage. Its like getting punched in the gut vs getting punched in the gut covered but a wood board. Either way your body still feels the full force of the blow, just one way the force is distributed over a larger area of your body.
Thoughts?
I had the same thought about the bumper and posted a thread asking for bumper recommendations here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334648
What I got in response was mostly people ignoring my post and recommending different types of full case. I get the impression that most forum posters don't actually read posts before they reply but merely react to the title.
I agree with you about the bumper providing almost as much protection as a case but I think to keep the screen from cracking you need a soft bumper like TPU at least as an inner layer. If the phone lands on a corner with a hard bumper it will still have a lot of force concentrated in a small area will have no cushioning to dampen the impact.
It's not necessary, but it's still possible of something hitting the back case or the back case dropping onto something. You just need to outweigh the pros and cons yourself, then decide what to go with. If I was only worried about my phone being dropped, then I would get the bumper since I'm usually never in a environment with debris all over the ground. But I've had couple instances where things were dropped onto my phone. So I just buy a full case myself.
The necessity of having any case at all is dictated by your aversion to any inconvenience caused by a momentary ooops moment leading to a cracked screen or dented phone. Repair? Replace? I'd rather prevent my phone getting damaged in the first place.

I think bumper/tpu cases in general are more for cosmetics and minor protection. And because of the chincy bezel on the s4, for example, ppl at work who like to put their phones glass side down. As well as protecting the camera and having a more flat back when using it on a desk/table. I myself own the neo hybrid and I don't think they offer any "REALLY GREAT" protection. Something in the middle would be the uag, which I think I will be ordering soon. It has the best of both worlds, IMO. And if you think ur gonna drop ur phone a lot for whatever reasons(clumsiness, blue collar work, or "you just never know"), I would go with a heavy duty full case for maximum protection from spiegen or otterbox.

I ordered a couple (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42676653&postcount=22) bumpers and should get them soon. I think bumpers aren't the "popular" thing so thats why you didn't get a very good bumper response.
As for tpu for inner layer, most of the aluminum bumpers provide a small tpu layer (very small)... but I don't think its really necessary. A rigid bumper like the aluminum ones will still distribute the force through the 2 sides of the phone if hit in the corner. Its just like my board on the stomach analogy in the OP. There is no soft layer between the wood board and your gut,,, but it doesn't hurt as bad because the load is spread out over a larger space.
The softer inner layer just help absorb the impact... to help not jar internals.

I didn't think about dropping something on my phone, ha. I've never done that. I guess that is a use case...
Every time I've ever dropped my phone, the corners get dinged... even my old old phones that took years of dropping, the front and backs look perfect... the corners look messed up.
The back is more prone to scratching than the front tbh, and I'd assume that having a rounded off flat back would cause less drops than a bumper with a lip on both sides
The poetic atmosphere case is pretty good, let's you see the back of the phone

That could be... but does it matter... a new back cover is only a couple bucks, way cheaper than a pricey case . That said... I might bet an imitation neo hybrid... cause they make the phone look sweet.
My point of this thread is kinda questioning the untested idea that the whole case provides more protection than the open back.... from falls. You could probably argue that it doesn't based on the low probability of a back hit.

That's a very good point.
Personally, I'd change the board analogy slightly. A dropped phone is more like strapping a board to yourself and running into something. In that case, having a layer of something soft between yourself and the board would be a nice bonus. I've always thought the ideal protection would be a rigid outer layer with a soft inner layer for exactly that reason; the outer layer distributes the impact over a large area and the inner layer absorbs that distributed impact.
Another concern I had with the aluminum bumpers was that you have metal directly against the screen which isn't ideal but I saw another user mention adding a layer of neoprene tape in between which could actually give that rigid outer layer, soft inner layer in a bumper that I've been after.
Please post your impressions when you get the bumpers. I'd be especially interested in hearing about the impact on signal performance. I've heard half say they decrease signal strength and half say there's no effect.

I think a bumper could offer great drop protection if designed well. The heavy duty cases protect the screen with nothing more than a lip. The screen is the most breakable part of the phone so there's not much point in protecting the back more than the screen. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
There isn't really any point to make this thread. Its all personal opinions and choice if you want a bumper or full case.

i had the same thought process as you. the back cover getting scratched is no big deal, because i can always get a replacement back cover for relatively cheap. the front isn't a concern due to a screen protector. what my biggest worry was the sides getting dinged or scratched. so after using slim cases, i figured i'd get a bumper case and see if liked it better. i bought the roocase from amazon and i liked it a lot (i got the white for my white S4). it looked SO much better in person, too. however, i wound up returning it because it made swiping annoying, because the lip was a little higher and it covered the screen just a little bit more than my slim cases. if that doesn't bother you, i would definitely check out the roocase (it's really cheap and it's free 2-day shipping with amazon prime). as for me, i'm going to maybe check out an aluminum bumper and see if that feels better.

Alternative option of aluminum bumper for GS4 fabricated by DevilCase.
There is a video on their FB fan page. It seems like they just released bumpers for GS4 in few days ago, but can't find it at Amazon's marketplace yet.

I think you'll have to await for Devil Case to come up with the goods for this. Going by my z3c experience it took over 6months from the phones availability for the case to become available (albeit not in its masses.)
DevilCase Sony Xperia Z3/Z3 Compact Aluminum Alloy Protective Bumper (Sony Z3 Compact, Black) by DevilCase http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SUWYDSK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_udp_awd_3J4gwb9Z7EXYR
(Mind you its not rounded as such, edgy, but hands down most superior protection amongst all competitors in this category.)
For now, the Fusion Orzly @hispanico mentions above is the nicest for the limited choice you have currently. I tried this on my z3c.. Offers great protection and prevents the phone slipping drastically compared to the naked device. However I personnaly found it made the device a little too clunky for my liking. But its a great choice offering the best protection for now.
I'd like a TPU bumper, something to add some grip and protection without having to cover the rear of the phone.
If somebody knows about one, please tell me.

Yes, that's the case. I'll try to update when I get the case. I should get it in the next couple of days.
Definitely agree. Like I mentioned in the other thread, the phone is too slippery. I like to use the phone one handed and have to balance my hand between gripping it tight enough so it doesnt slide (which is fairly tight) and keeping it loose enough that my thumb can reach the left top corner. ust over the past few days, I've noticed some strain on my hand from having to maintain the grip (not too tight, not too loose).
I have the Orzly Fusion. I wonder if I could take off the back plastic some how. It would be good to have some protrusion out the back to protect the back glass too. Ofcourse, this sounds great in my head, but I bet if I try to modify the case it will turn out ugly and ruined.

I have the same case and going to try to remove the plastic back when i get my balolo back skin. if it don't work ill just buy a new one will report back.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing. the issue I see is it will leave too much of a extra hanging over the back due to the thickness of the plastic. Unless you plan to just slice through the bumper to get the back off.

So today i recived the balolo back cover, unfortunately they messed up and made the cut outs for the z3 compact... But i cut of the top part of the cover and applied it anyway. Now to the orzly bumper, i did remove the plastic back and it does fit around the z5 pretty good. The only problem is that it's clearly not made to work just as a bumper cause it is a little bit loose around the edges, so i don't recommend removing the back but it does work
I guess they have a smaller lip in front to keep the phone from falling out the front but dont need one on the back since the backing holds the phone in.

i have that case, it feels alright, but it makes using the fingerprint scanner hard as the bumper causes the scanner to be even more depress and harder for your fingerprint to fit and be scanned easily. the buttons are just attached to the tape/cushion on the bumper and it messes with my already bad reception
also does not have a lip to protect the front of the phone in the event of the phone landing face down

Anyone using this phone naked?

I really want to use the phone without a case and just a tgsp.. But I am unsure how scratch resistant it is. I am about to receive a replacement phone from Google as my first had issues. What do you guys use?
Definitely get a screen protector. Just having it in my pockets caused many small screen scratches over time.
As for the phone itself, the beveled metal edges around the screen scratch and dent VERY easily. A slight accidental bump can permanently mess it up pretty badly. The back metal of the phone seems to hold up very nicely, though.
i have no screen protector or case and I wouldnt have it any other way. That being said the edges are a thinner metal then a coke can so it will nick easily
This phone is too slippery to use without a case imo. I use a Spigen Thin Fit to help with grip and I'm happy.
Always wrap your thing!
Using a slickwraps skin. It's much easier to hold without a case because it's less heavy and thinner (due to how long the phone is)
I'm using my phone absolutely naked, have insurance in case something happens to it in lieu of a case.

I feel the same way however I'd like to keep this phone looking good.. I've gone with the Rhino bumper which is thin, discreet and you can still feel the back of the phone..plus the protection is supposed to be amazing.
The only problem I have now is that the case looks good too so I want to protect that now lol.
30 dollars with shipping, I'm in the UK and it came in under a week. A great case.
All I have on my phone is a dbrand skin. Unfortunately, I had an issue where it dropped a short distance (6 to 12 inches) and landed on a corner and it knicked up that corner near the screen pretty good, but not enough to convince me to buy a case yet... lol Haven't had any problems with any screen scratches or any other cosmetic damages yet.

Straight from the evo labs website. No restrictions. Here within a week. I did pay p&p but that's expected. About 4 quid I think.
One thing id like to say though, the rear clearance is not 100% the very centre of the back is slightly exposed, the bumper does not offer complete clearance when you push it against a flat surface.
If you don't know what I mean.
Take your phone and slide the back of it along the edge of a surface, say a mantelpiece or a shelf and whilst the start of the case is covered, towards the middle is not..
Not the end of the world but I'd have liked the clearance, ironically, tech 21 always offers this , something to consider.

Unfortunately, my N6P is my only camera at the moment. I'm sure most people wouldn't even notice the ding from a distance, but every time I run my finger along it, I cry a little inside.
Have a good one!
I have a glass screen protector, a Dbrand black carbon fiber skin for the glass panel on the back, and carry the phone around in a FitBag pouch.
This phone is the first where i must have a case for traction, its soo slippery and i want to hold it casually and treat it like a normal phone. I bet if i had it in my pocket it will just defy gravity and just fly out, would get a skin but seeing how easy it was to bend the bezel with my finger nail, i dont want break it in the first year,
I got one of these, the thinnest case i could find.i know it wont help in a fall but it will help against wear and tear

I've always rocked my phones naked. This time around I'm using a skin. Had a front back skin. Did drop it once too >_<. Thankfully it's just a small dent right above the camera visor. The skin on my phone is slippery so I ordered a more grippier one and took off the front skin because ambient display works better without it.
I have only a d brand frame for the camera.
I have glass screen protector and tried a clear thin case, but am back to no case..just the glass. No problems. I did add a little non-slip round piece to the back..it stays in my pocket just a little better, and totally stops it from sliding off a flat surface.
In and out of pocket all day, I am not real careful about keys or coins and no issues. I have done this with HTC M7,8,9 also with no problems. I hate hiding a good looking phone with an ugly case...and no case I have ever seen enhances the look.
Any one know of a transparant case that is compatible with slickwraps? Bought the galactic series but want some extra protection...

Yes, that back battery cover really good! I'm already using for 3 weeks now. It saved my phone when it has fallen down a concrete surface.
Not any problem with remote control functions.
Other info: I would not recommend any back cover what is FULL aluminium. I bought one and the GPS signal went low!
I have this one also and I can confirm no problems with IR or any other system.

I have the brown one.
Really love it.
Very cheap ( +- $5 ) but very good quality :good:
How is this case in terms of protection, does the metal framing provide better protection as opposed to silicon? will it be enough to protect the phone from falling on hard surfaces?
Actually it's plastic and not metal but it's good enough for a few bumps ...if it goes off really bad I don't think there's a case that will protect your phone.
I've dropped my phone a few times already, unfortunately. I've been lucky so far, I agree with PascM that no case will protect you from a really bad fall.
One fall was on one of the edges from about 1m on a wooden floor, no damage at all. The other fall was from the same height flat on the screen, only scratched the (glass) display protection.
Hmm I have one it looks fantastic but it seems to hinder wifi range... I want to take it off and compare, but how do I take it off?? Its really tight and good fitting is there some technique I can use ??

Finally arrived, I am very pleased with the cover.
It fits great and although it seems to hinder my GPS signal, I don't really care as I could swap it if I really had the need, and I am not even 100% sire it is the cover.
The grip is grea and the build is great for the price.
I dropped my phone and the case has now a dent, but it is normal as it is cheap plastic.
For the summer time maybe consider buying another color which isn't black!
Thats all, thx OP for the heads up.

The best.
I just get delivered this one
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...d-Glass-Protective-Case-Back/32606477247.html
and I have to say I'm very satisfied. It feels very solid and fits tightly. It's much better than original case. Only "problem" is that back of it is tempered glass and it's polished so if you have sweaty hands like me, you are not gonna avoid fingreprints on it.
I've had like 3 of them, the "aluminium paint" wears off. It's a good case for like 2 months, I'm using the phone without a case atm.
Got a brown one as well. Much better than the glass one I bought before which made it just noticeably too heavy and thick. definitely recommend.
Now to find a glass screen protector that doesn't shatter from the easiest fall.

Case included with phone

So first off loving my 1+6 (8/128). Super fast and just plain awesome! Puts my S8+ in the dust
But my main reason for this post is about the included phone case that came with the phone. I haven't seen anyone mention it on here, so wasn't sure if anyone was aware. But inside the box the the phone is attached to once you unbox it, there is a basic style phone case inside. It's nothing fancy, but it's a case. And it's FREE. I actually like it, and was so glad it was there as I didn't want to wait several days for a case to be ordered and delivered. Granted, I completely bypassed that part of the unboxing as it usually just includes the "paperwork" that nobody reads. But after a day, I was hurting for protection on my phone. Always carefully putting it down somewhere where it wouldn't slide and scratch the backing. Or on something super soft. So, I just so happened to re-open the box and look inside and to my surprise, there was a case.
So, this phone is not only awesome in speed and performance (minus a bit of battery issues at the moment), but they also include a pre-attached screen protector AND a phone case! WOW...hats off to you OnePlus! More OEMs should be taking a page out of your book...ESPECIALLY for the prices we are asked to pay for these "premium" phones.
It's a high quality case and I like it a lot.
I knew about the free case inside the box but I bought other 2 cases from Oneplus, I like the one from the package more.
It doesn't suck, and I'm glad not to have to go naked with a glass phone while I wait for a real case from UAG. Nice gesture from OP, though these TPU cases cost about 50 cents to make.
Compared to other TPU cases ain't bad.
I jsut hate transparent TPU cases, with dust getting between the case and the phone
I really like it for indoor environment, pretty slim, grippy, light weight raised bezels, especially on corners, good quality material and air bags on corners
I don't like it. But I don't like gel cases full stop. They're too sticky for me. I've bought the silicone case though which is amazing.
Indeed, I was glad to see one included, though I did know about it beforehand as it was listed in the "What's inside the box" portion of the web site. I am putting on a rugged case in a couple of weeks but for now am happy my OP6 is protected to some degree.
Uh... They've been including a case since the 5T and have had the even pre applied even protector for quite a while now. And I would suggest getting the nylon bumper case it's much safer and doesn't make the device bulky. Didn't look through the whole box lmao.
Let me share my OP6 experience. I used the included case for a good 3 days and I think it's a decent option. Coming from OnePlus One, I decided to buy the sandstone back case for my OP6 and boy oh boy, it's premium! Although there is compromise with safety as it doesn't wrap up the phone completely but for someone like me who doesn't drop his phone much, this premium case if pure gold! Totally recommended ♥
Edit: Adds zero bulk to the phone, fits like a glove and even covers the camera bump with ease. As I've already mentioned a few times before, it feels and looks premium!
it's a good case, i'd just prefer a black rim because it looks a bit grayish from the front while the back looks grat transparent.
however, it's not only free, it's also decent ?
I have the silk white and when sunlight hits the case the whole surrounded areas of the phone glow a pinkish light. Super cool effect.
Is the camera bump really protected? I've been using the included case for a couple of days and I cannot tell for sure if it does. I really love slim cases as dropping the phone is quite improbable in my case, but getting the camera glass scratched for putting the phone on a table would be a bummer.

I was also wondering this, I tried it on a glass table and looked from underneath and I would say the camera glass is not protected by the stock case. I wonder if it would be the same case with the karbon bumper

My search for the same answer brought me here. It looks like it's flush with the case but it's so close it's hard to tell. The case is thin and grippy and the buttons are easier to press compared to the nylon case. If I knew the camera was protected I would use it as my main case.

Thanks for that info. I guess I won't use this case on a regular.
I prefer cases that are as slim as possible. The phone is big already, and adding even more bulk with a sturdy case makes it even more cumbersome. I'm considering other choices as I don't want the camera to get scratches, but I haven't seen transparent/flexible with enough thickness to guarantee camera protection. OP cases are also compatible with the tempered glass, so I guess I'll have to go with one of the official cases (have an unopened sandstone, but again, I don't know how it fares regarding the camera).

Yep that's indeed the case
Didn't realize it until I checked the box when I selling the 5T. Then I realized I had one with the 6 as well. Definitely great that both a pre-applied protector and a case are included in the box.

I usually protect the lens with Dbrands along with the body of the phone. You can also instead opt for lens glass protectors which can be purchased pretty cheaply.
Where can I buy this case?
Would love to know this as well. I've been thinking of buying the same thing with the same colour and I've never been able to find one
