APN Settings - Oneplus 7 - Non Rooted or Unlocked - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
Just wanted to ask if there was a way to adjust the APN settings on the oneplus 7 as it appears it has been greyed out with no "+" sign to add new. Not sure why this is happening as I came from a oneplus 3 device which had this option. My father is traveling in europe right now and has the same device, he is unfortunately unable to edit the APN settings with the purchased sim card which is causing him grief. Why has this been disabled? For some reason as well the carrier that he is using, BONBON in Croatia, the pushed settings are not correct and thus he cannot get internet or 4G internet working. I should mention my device is not rooted or unlocked bootloader and this would not be an option for him over in europe as he is not comfortable nor has the setup to do so.
Is there any help here? It appears it may be just our phones as I checked with another pixel 3 locally here and it has the "+" sign available to add another setting etc.
Thoughts on this, really need some help to get him going over there!

New development:
Turns out the "+" sign has now appeared and we have attempted to enter the following information from BonBon technical support. Unfortunately after we enter the below information and hit save, nothing happens. I have found another post on here indicating that MVNO should be set to something to allow for it to save. Weird. I haven't tried, but here are the results of the APN settings below:
Name: Internet
APN: internet.ht.hr
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Server: Not set
MMS center: Not set
MMS proxy: Not set
MMS port: Not set
MMC: 219
MNC: 01
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: default, supl
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN enable
Bearer: Unspecified
Mobile virtual network operater (MVNO) type: None
Once I hit save and back out there is nothing there listed, no matter what i did.

check on yur phone if you have an app created on your phone by the sim card:
"SIM Toolbox" or "BonBon services" or something like that

Hi there,
Unfortunately nothing was created, is there an app or tool I can use to get this added? Any ideas as to why it wont save after trying to add?

Having the same problem, and I DO have an app called "Sim Toolbox" listed as somewhere on the phone, but not in the app drawer. Is it part of the problem?

[Q] Nexus S and Softbank (Japan): How to get it working?

Hey guys,
I seriously need your help. I can't receive MMS (S!Mail) with my Nexus S and the japanese carrier Softbank, no matter what I try. Last year the same problem with my old Motorola Milestone.
Android 2.3.5, CM ROM #167 nightly
Baseband: I9023XXKD1
In 2009, I bought a silver USIM Prepaid from Softbank (still valid) with a Softbank 822p phone.
Until now I tried the smile.world and openmms APN, different Apps (Handcent SMS, Go SMS Pro, Softbank Mail), but I can only receive notifications. It shows a download button, but if I hit that, I get the instant error "download not possible. Please try again later". Wifi turned off.
This didn't help as well:
http://ryufly.wordpress.com/2011/07...end-receive-mms-after-upgrading-to-cm7-1-rc1/
If anybody can help, that would be great! Every little hint is appreciated.
does the softbank mail app not work?
found this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...arp-Android-phones-with-Softbank-(Go-SMS-Pro)
Using another SMS/MMS app on Sharp Android phones with Softbank (Go SMS Pro)
First download the following apps:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji Plugin
Under Receive Settings, check the Disable other message notification checkbox. This means SMS will only be received in Go SMS but unfortunately it cannot stop the MMS from being received by the stock app (more on that later)
In MMS Settings:
Check the Fill user agent manually checkbox (under User Agent)
Change the user agent to this:
Vodafone/1.0/V802SE/SEJ002 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
(Cant make any mistakes, so best to copy/paste)
Under APN Configuration, select Custom Access Point
MMSC: http://mms
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
Under Important Tips, select the checkbox saying Stock messaging app uninstalled
If you dont select this then Go SMS wont download MMS at all. In that case Go SMS can be used for SMS only (i.e. other Softbank only) - MMS would go to the stock Softbank app.
In my case i hated how the Softbank app chews up 100% of the CPU for about 30 seconds as it tries to download an MMS. When you are playing a game it really makes you hate the sender for screwing up your gameplay!
Lastly go into the Softbank mail application
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
After all of that, when you get an email you will get a double notification - one from Go SMS and one from Softbank. Thats unavoidable unless you uninstall the Softbank app. But only Go SMS will get the full MMS, and you can keep ignoring the Softbank mail notifications
Seems to be working good for me so far. I love being able to type and reply to messages without the annoying "sending" screen. And being able to see new messages as they appear instead of having to get out of the message being edited, to see the new messages

i can confirm it works on my DHD
The key is not only getting the right apns but also getting that user agent string in your mms app.
Cyanogen mod can do it, or go sms pro too if you don't want to run cm.
@SQ3.0dotJP
Not even the Softbank Mail App works, giving me the same error message as other apps. The solution you quoted wont work as well.
Regarding error messages: the only thing I can achieve is that either I get an instant error message (cant download...) or a timout error message (trying to download...after some time: cant download).
I think it's a minor detail, but I cant figure it out.
@patrixl
How to configure the User Agent with CyanogenMod? The only option I know is within message apps like Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS.
The user agent code is in the line i posted. You tried it in go with no results? Wish i could help. Where are you BTW?

Never heard of it and won't finde informations about it with google. Could you elaborate on it a bit?
Hi guys,
I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Just FYI, I have a Nexus S, rooted, Cyanogen mod 7 and just got a prepaid sim from softbank.
I've followed the instructions given here to the letter. Go SMS Pro is certainly a better app than the Softbank crap.
I can received messages, as in I caan see the title, but when I click them it says "Currently Unable to Download. Please Try Again Later". The same thing happens in the softbank app or another mms.apk I got where you could change the User Agent from a list. I also cannot send any messages, it just sits there with the little circle going around and around.
I've tried both the APNs that came with the Sim (Softbank(open) and Softbank(smile.world)) with no luck at all. I also downloaded the App the guy in the quoted post suggested, but it fails with any APN or web proxy combination.
I've also looked at other APNs online and tried a whole bunch.
I don't understand what setting is wrong. I've literally spent about 8 hours on this now, and I think I may be going a little crazy.
ANY help with this will be rewarded with knowing you have made my year (or at least my month).
Thanks very very much,
N.
SOLVED! Nexus S on Softbank Prepaid!
:clapping:
Hopefully this will help others who troll online trying to get their Android (perhaps a Nexus S) to work with Prepaid Softbank.
For the fix, I did the following. Note, one or two parts MAY be unneccesary, I'll test it all later. A quick note, I initially installed the Softbank Mail app from the Market, but since I'm rooted I just uninstalled it after it was all working and it still works GREAT! So you DON'T NEED to use that app. Just FYI.
Download the following:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji (if you like Emoji)
Softbank Mail (Get rid of this if you are rooted)
Follow the instructions as stated by Tokyo_Dom, repeated here:
Go SMS
Softbank Mail
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
APN Settings
On your Android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". Make sure only "Date enabled" is checked, you don't need national or international roaming.
Then click "Access Point Names". Here I deleted EVERYTHING so it wouldn't get confused. I don't want 3G internet, as on Prepaid it is crazy expensive.
Add a new APN with the following details:
Name: Mail Web Service (This can be anything you want)
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: sbwapproxy.softbank.ne.jp
Port: 8080
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms/ (< This is "http : // mms /" without the spaces if the forum removes urls)
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
Authentication: PAP
APN type: mms
Save this. Now, at this point you SMail/MMS MIGHT be working. If it is, congrats and please let me know. If it isn't there are a few further steps that should get you there. I've found these on different forums, so appologies if I don't give credit where due. I think I found them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21545288
PPP File
There MAY be a file on your phone at : / system / etc / ppp / peers / pppd-Ril.options.
There wasn't on mine, but I created one anyway (oh yeah, probably need to be rooted for this). It contains two lines for the Username and password, which you must change to correspond to the same username and password in your APN settings. Otherwise, it never seems to use the right one, and therefore your MMS or data will not work. You'll need to root your phone and figure out how to edit or copy an edited file onto your phone. So, change those two lines to look like this:
user softbank
password qceffknarlurqgbl
Give it a try and see if it all works.
Data On/Off
For some reason, whenever I first turn on the phone, the messaging only receives a header for each message, but refuses to download the actual message body. Even if I click 'download' on the message in the message app, it will not work, and will give me an error.
For the solution, everytime you start up your android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". UNCHECK "Date enabled", then reCHECK "Date enabled".
It was specifically after this fix that my messages started to be downloaded. It may have been this alone, but I already did the other bits. I might investigate more later, but I don't want to stop a good thing ATM.
SOME OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS
1) Make sure the APN is set to "mms".
I also found that it would work with the APN type set to blank instead of 'mms' in my APN settings. HOWEVER, with it set to blank, it was CONSTANTLY, I mean non-stop, using my 3G connection (as indicated in the status bar). It was trying to connect to the internet I presume. My Softbank prepaid service includes messaging but not internet service, nor do I have the APN for internet in my settings. But, without specifying my mms APN as 'mms' type, it trys to use that APN for internet as well. Anyway, that drained my battery very quickly! Set it to 'mms' so your 3G radio isn't working overtime to no benefit.
2) Alternate APNS that MIGHT work
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server:leave blank
MMSC:http://mms/
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
APN type: mms
Name: Open Softbank
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy:
Port:
username: softbank
Password: qceffknarlurqgbl
Server:
MMSC: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 440
MNC: 20
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: mms
The major difference is MMSC and MMSC Proxy. On my phone I leave the „MMS proxy“ field blank, and the proxy address from this article (sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp) into the MMSC field.
apn carrier="SoftBank Internet"
mcc="440"
mnc="20"
apn="andglobal.softbank.ne.jp"

password="pumbbghkpgyybsxa"

Sorry for MegaPost, just wanted to put this togeather for others to make it easy. It's about 24 hours work to finally get it sorted.
Thanks for clarifying things! I should have no problems now.
hey travisler just wondering - is your Nexus s a cdma version? I've been trying to get prepaid s-mail to work on my samsung captivate and it hasn't really been working. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware issue like whether the captivate just can't connect to softbank's mms network
Hey tanjierong,
My phone is from Korea so is GSM I'm pretty sure.
It is all still working fine, if you can connect to softbank (ie. you can make a call or recieve) then this hack should work for you. It has worked for a few other friends here too now with random android phones.
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks
Omg travisler... I've been cracking my head since one month in Japan. Using Xperia s and I just can't get the app working. Tried several methods like pushing through mms.apk file using adb still doesn't works. Until I came across your post, works like a charm dude. Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to carry two phones at once :fingers-crossed:
Great bit of info you have provided here travisler.
I have put my Softbank 'dumbphone' (708sc) grey SIM into my Motorola Milestone, Cyanogenmod 7 phone. I want to use it like a 'dumbphone' that can use wifi so I have no need for a 'smartphone' data plan. It works as a telephone and I am in the process of getting 'text messaging' working. I have been reading quite a bit online and there is much information about getting MMS to work.
When one enables data as the APN guide instructs, this will only apply to MMS and not accidentally lead to huge bills for someone without a smart-phone data plan will it?
I followed the 'GO SMS' guide but not the 'APN Settings' guide and I ignored 'Softbank Mail', then rebooted. I get a new MMS sender and title notification in GO MMS Pro but when I try to download the full message I get the warning "please check that the network is available".
So I followed the instructions in the 'APN Settings' guide. There were already a couple of Softbank APNs there, they had a radio button beside them but my new one didn't. After a reboot there was a new icon (3G?) in the notification bar and I could download MMS but the first SB APN was still checked - I suppose the phone was using that SB APN and not the custom one. I removed both the original 2 SB APNs and rebooted and now I am back to receiving the warning "please check that the network is available" when I try to download MMS.
My MMS address is ****@q.vodafone.ne.jp as I already had a Vodafone subscription when Softbank took over and I cannot change the address to ****@softbank.ne.jp, would this require a tweak on the MMS settings I inputted?
Or perhaps my SIM card is the issue. It is not a 'pre-paid' SIM but one from my contracted 'dumb-phone'.
I'd appreciate some help please.
Thank you very much!
This worked for me with the white prepaid SIM.
I did all the steps you listed and used the first APN settings that you recommended, except that I had to set the APN type to "default, mms".
If I only enter "mms", I would sometimes get the 3G icon, but I could not download the messages.
I tried this and still no go. I have a sh203 sharp from softbank. I added the apn but i cannot edit the stock apn since i cannot find a way to root my phone.
When i chose the apn i created i loose my internet data..

Working APN settings for t-mobile g2x on straight talk given sim ??

Please Help.
I want to use an unlocked t-mobile branded lg g2x on the straight talk network
The APN settings supplied by the straight web site do not work for mms or internet,
If you have the APN settings that work for mms and internet please post them with confirmation that they work.
Thank you very much
Did you get any settings to work?
I want to pull the trigger on this, but not sure if it works (had some issues with the Simple Mobile APN settings on my phone).
Let me know.
Yes ! Please post these settings! I have had my g2x for about a month now with no sms/data at all! It is very frustrating I have tried many apns and cannot find one that works.. .
I got my g2x to work with straightalk last night but only phone and text. No data. Used my sim from my nokia e71. Type in att.mvno in the apn config screen. Trying to come up with the next step to get data.

Here are my settings:
Name
HOME
APN
att.mvno
Leave everything else alone EXCEPT the bottom selection that says:
APN type (here you must enter the following)
default,supl
Then save, next choose to add another APN
make it look like this:
Name
MMS
APN
att.mvno
skip down to
MMSC
http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy
proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port

skip to:
APN type (enter the following)
mms
THEN SAVE
You will see that only one APN has the option to be chosen, that is ok, Just choose the one that is able to be chosen.
Now go back to Homescreen and then reboot your phone.
This works for me, hope it can help you. I tried a hundred different ways and this was it. Capitalization is important, and the APN type was the trick.
GOOD LUCK and let me know if it worked for you.
them settings did not work for me. is there any other settings i can use?
working APN
If you are on stock rom then the normal straight talk settings work. Although you will have to download APN manager from the market to delete the T-Mobile apn or else your system will automatically switch to it occasionally which will drop data.
If you are on a custom rom (MIUI, ICS, etc.):
1. Open apn settings
2. Open the T-Mobile apn
DO NOT ERASE OR CHANGE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE FOLLOWING
3. Change APN to wap.tracfone
4. Change Port to 8080
5. Change MMSC to http://mms.tracfone.com
6. Erase anything typed in the "APN type" field
7. Save
8. Delete any other APNs.
If you already deleted the T-Mobile apn on a custom rom you'll have to reinstall the rom or ask the developer what the apn settings were.
This has always worked for me. Hope it helps.
^^^^ That is the correct solution.
Thank you c1c2doc that worked perfectly!
The latest CM 7.2 has the StraightTalk APN information pre-populated as an option along with Simple. You can also get the T-Mobile SIM card from StraightTalk as well now so you don't have to unlock the phone. Has anyone tried these yet?

I just got my Straighttalk T-mobile SIM up and running. I did not have to unlock my T-mobile GS2, plug-n-play. Took about a day to port my number over, entered the APN settings on the website. Getting data speeds the same as T-mobile, MMS worked the first time. So far, no complaints. I read on another forum that autopay eliminates fees and taxes. We will see.

@ATT Intruder,
1) verify that you have the correct SIM card according to your data plan e.g. LTE SIM. Link provided here is for AT&T.
2) Register your OPO's IMEI number in your local carrier's system by visiting the local store & verify the status bar shows e.g. LTE next to the data connection.
I hope this helps.

Nex S hotspot feature?

Anyone having issues with the hotspot feature where it will turn on but when any devices connect to it will not have access to Internet. I've tried setting it both wide open and passwords and nothing. I've even tried different sims (TMobile and ATT) all apn setting seem to be correct as well. Anyone having issues with the hotspot feature where it will turn on but when any devices connect to it will not have access to Internet. I've tried setting it both wide open and passwords and nothing. I've even tried different sims (TMobile and ATT) all apn setting seem to be correct as well. I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue?

I'm having the same problem you have. I also tried it no passwords needed and still no Internet! I tried it with a tablet and a cell phone.

T-Mobile. I used mobile hotspot many times in the past with my previous phone. I think I'll call them up just to be sure tethering is still active on my account.
Check the apn settings.
Sometimes automatic apn setups add a proxy ip, and that could cause an issue.

Doesn't look like any proxy are set.
Ok guys, my entire page response to this problem was just deleted so I'm re-posting. I was able to get Hot-Spot working with the help of my T-Mobile Tech. I wasn't able to create and then select a new APN so I disabled Settings\Mobile Network\Carrier\Automatic Registration to disabled - reboot. It took a while to disable but it happened! I was able to create and select a new APN with the following settings according to the T-Mobile tech. I'm located in the eastern USA
NEW APN settings:
Name - T-Mobile US LTE
APN - fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy - Not set
Port - not set
Username - Not set
Password - Not set
Server - Not set
MMSC - http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

MMS Port - Not set
MCC - 310
MNC - 260
Authentication Type - Not set
APN Type - default,mms,ims
APN Protocol - IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol IPv4
APN - ENABLE
Bearer - Unspecified
MVNO Type - None
MVNO Value - not set

I tried but for some reason I'm unable to select the new apn I created using your info posted
I had the same problem. I kept trying and was able to select. I had to touch all the way to the far right of my new APN. Don't know if that was the solution but just keep trying near the edge to right of your new one.

Nice! NP
Wow! Just spent half hour on the phone. The tech from Philippines raved about this phone but couldn't get hotspot to work. He made me create the new APN but did not make me perform the first step (disabling auto registration of the networ). Also, He asked me to choose IPv6 and not either. Worked a charm, thank you so much!

Question Changed from Verizon to ATT, now wifi calling is missing.

So I switched three phones from Verizon to ATT, the two Samsung Notes changed over fine. All of the ATT services where setup after reboot prompt, even the startup logo was changed to ATT. The third phone was a Moto G Play and it didn't go as well. There was no reboot prompt and the ATT services were never installed. The startup logo is still Verizon and there is a notification that the SIM is not from Verizon. I would think it was carrier locked but for the fact that the phone DOES work and the carrier is shown as ATT. There was no SIM code prompt or any other reason for it to not change over correctly.
My question is, is there a way to manually install ATT wifi calling or other ATT services that should have been setup automatically? Wifi calling was working with Verizon but is not even present as an option to enable for ATT.
This is a list of ATT wifi compatible phones which includes the Moto G Play
https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/pdf/Compatible-Wi-Fi-Calling-Devices-on-ATT-Network.pdf
I had a similar experience with ATT in the past with a Samsung unlocked device. It took me quite a while (6 months) to get ATT whitelist my IMEI and post that my Wi-Fi calling option got enabled and working. Just as you have quoted the samsung device was a compatible phone as per ATT but it was not ATT branded thus Wi-Fi calling was not available.
The best way to check on a Samsung phone is to go into settings> about phone> status information>Sim card status - under IMS registration you should see "ON" if not then the phone IMEI is not whitelisted. This I gather based on my conversation with ATT support over the period I was chasing them.
ATT does not whitelist the IMEI - you will really have to pull big strings, I had to be persistent and patient. At one point I lost hope. One fine day got a message it was whitelisted and then rebooted my phone and voila IMS registration said "ON" wifi option got enabled and started working.
Yes, APN's have to be manually injected - First inject these into the APN settings
Then reboot
