[GUIDE][ROOT] Archos 50 Platinum

Decided to create this guide because the steps in the threads below didn't work for me.
The Archos 50 Platinum rooting process is slightly different then the Karbonn Titanium S5.
Still, this was very helpful!
[Rooting]Karbonn Titanium S5 general discussions and Rooting help
KARBONN TITANIUM S5 {Rooting/CWM}[UPDATED STOCK ZIP]
STEP 1 - Need
# Enable USB Debugging under developer options
# Drivers (used the file in the internal SDCard "pcdrivers.zip")
# adb-fastboot
# CWM Recovery (IMPORTANT: Not yet the best CWM Recovery for Archos 50, image flickers. But works)
# Stock Recovery (Karbonn Titanium S5 stock recovery. Worked for me)
# Superuser / SuperSU (CWM SUPER USER.zip)
STEP 2 - Preparations
1. Extract "adb-fastboot" to a folder and open a Command Prompt window from there (Didnt need "Run as Administrator").
2. Copy CWM Recovery to ..\adb-fastboot folder and rename it "recovery.img"
3. Copy the "CWM SUPER USER.zip" to the root of the internal or external SDCard.
STEPS 3 - Driver Installation
1. Power off your device, and go into GREEN Recovery
# Press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER KEY -> when you see a GREEN screen release volume up key
SKIP THIS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE DRIVER INSTALLED
2. Install Archos 50 ADB Driver
# Win+R -> devmgmt.msc and update the unknown device "A50" and force the installation (This driver is not digitally signed) to "Fastboot interface (Google USB ID)", driver location should be "..\pcdrivers\drivers\adb_driver\ (win32 or win64)
STEP 4 - Flash CWM Recovery
1. From the folder "adb-fastboot" Command Prompt:
Code:
fastboot devices
This should display your device name in fastboot mode, if nothing is shown, then you have to check previous steps again.
2. Type this command to flash CWM recovery to your phone
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Done! CWM Recovery installed.
STEP 5 - SuperSU with CWM (Screen flickers, but easy to follow)
1. Boot into RED Recovery by:
# Press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER KEY
# When you see a GREEN screen DONT release VOLUME UP key
# After 10 seconds you see RED screen, now release VOLUME UP key
2. In CWM Recovery, select "install zip from sdcard" -> "CWM SUPER USER.zip" from SDCard. (Screen Flickers!)
# Reboot
# Done!
After the reboot your phone should be rooted. If not, follow the steps again.
STEP 6 - Revert to Stock Recovery / Unroot (Remember this is from Karbonn Titanium S5. Worked for me)
# Do STEP 4, but replace with the Stock Recovery
# Unroot instructions here. In CWM Recovery!
If theres a easy way, let us all know.
Thanks!
Nice, thanks.
My heart is not yet strong enough to try and maybe fry another phone though (bricked 3 phones while playing around in dangerous areas this year )
try it out guys it should work, its not going to spoil your phone as we just replacing recovery, even of u fail u will have a bootable phone.
In step 3, you can also just type 'adb reboot bootloader' instead of holding the buttons, to boot into fastboot mode
---------- Post added at 10:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 AM ----------
Here's a much easier way of doing it:
1. preparations + open a cmd window, cd to your adb-fastboot folder
2. 'adb reboot bootloader'
3. 'fastboot devices' (if no devices are present, try option 2 again)
4. 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'
5. 'fastboot continue'
6. 'adb reboot recovery'
7. "install zip from sdcard" -> "CWM SUPER USER.zip"
8. 'adb reboot'
---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:14 AM ----------
Also, this method is working perfectly for me - root, SuperSU and a beautiful, not-flickering CMW Recovery! Only mass storage mode is not working, not in stock recovery nor in CMW recovery.

can you please upload the system part of your cwm back up.
you can compress it using "KGB ARCHIVER" Free to download from CNET it converts 300mb to just 3mb
You can also find that on the website of Arches, in the form of an update.zip package. You can download that here:
http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates_fwm.html?country=us&lang=en

Hi ... I get code error 5054 too on sp flash tool. Can you help ?
can you tel me which vriants give 5054 error?
820s
---------- Post added at 08:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:20 PM ----------
I made some research the code error 5054 means: The files you're trying to flash do not belong to or are not compatible with the phone you're trying to flash them to**
Solution they give..:*** Ensure you're using the correct files. If you're sure they are, then try formatting before flashing again
Does this mean that my variant is not compatible with yours ?
@Mohamed Yaser you might give the wrong file. Instead, I flashed the pgfs files from Gibz97 thread and it worked fine. Then I continue with flashing twrp through fastboot command.
The problem persists for me.

1. Download pgfs from Gibz97 thread.
2. Put it in the folder containing the lollipop ROM. (backup original pgfs is optional)
3. Open flashtool, as in the OP, load scatter-loading in lollipop rom folder (not in folder RootIT)
4. Follow steps in OP, except do not tick recovery.
5. Proceed until step 7, then reboot into bootloader using adb (as the pic in OP)
6. Then boot into download mode. (It is weird as download mode is considered as fastboot in adb, not the bootloader )
7. Flash twrp using command fastboot flash recovery twrp.img .
8. Boot into recovery, then flash SuperSU.
You're done! I hope it help you

I've tried it with the other rom and it worked. Well, actually the converter didn't work. I actually had to use this:
https://github.com/xpirt/sdat2img
to create the system.img in ext4 format, then I had to use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749797
to create a flashable sparse chunk from the system.img.
the rest of the stuff like the boot, modem, cache etc flashed just fine. After flashing everything it booted perfectly.
Only problem is it's in demo mode and it requires the google account of the previous owner to log in before it unlocks. Since I'm only repairing it for someone I don't have that and can't get it out of demo mode for now.

Where give you this problem ?
When I try to update the phone, it automatically boots into twrp recovery and after rebooting it says update failed. I think it's trying to update via the recovery but it can't because it isn't the original recovery. Do you have the stock (original) recovery?
Btw, where did you get the EMEA_BGCS firmware from?

I did do all the erase commands, did you also erase the recovery though?
When you have the time, could you explain step by step what you did to convert the .dat files into the .img files? That's the only thing I did differently because it didn't work for me (yes python was installed)

I tchat with a technician of acer. He ask me to give the build number.... Yes but I can't give it that. My mobile is bricked! He advises to send my phone on SAV, but the phone is rooted!
Is there someone would be kind enough to give me the build number, please? :crying:
Or is it possible to get this number with adb?
Thank you for your answer and sorry for my English

Amazing work!
Windows 10 mobile --> android = Problems
Hello. I installed on the Z330 Windows 10 mobile. Help please go back to Android. Presumably change Disk Partitions. How is it to create one?
TWRP won't Install, it's always goes to stock Recovery instead TWRP. Help please thanks ~
I got the same result with #19, and my image version is Acer_AV0L0_T01_RV01RB10_TWN_GEN1.
The fastboot flash command seemed to pass, but I can not boot into TWRP. It still stayed in the old recovery mode.
BR.
