Hybrid double sim + SDcard adapter - Honor 8 Accessories

I'm goin to Japan this summer and wanna buy a 3G SIM to use, without takin' out my SIM or my SD (memory for camera).
As someone tried this "mod"? Does it work?

I don't think you'll find anyone willing to risk damaging their $400 device just to avoid taking out a Sim that you probably can't use in Japan anyway. Just keep it in a safe place so you don't lose it and enjoy your trip! You should get some great photos with this camera while you are there.

This was discussed before, there is a guide how to use 2 sim + sd card. Works like a charm.

Got a link?

There is a video how to place 2 sim and sd card simultaneously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kAeF3BdHlw
Posted adapter works too, unfortunately I cannot find a link. The principle is the same as in the video, but there is a SIM card out of tray laying in the back of the phone or where is the adapter located.

I am using this hybrid 2 sim+sd card.
Only thing that you have to do is flat that nodge on sd card and everything else is simple as 1,2,3.

If you do this method that adriansticoid posted, do it with nano sim card (it's thinner than the classic one) and chance to damage the chip is smaller.

It does matter. Regular SIM card is thicker and have a bigger chip than the Nano SIM, many users reported, that regular SIM is not suitable for it.

SD Card Slot on all Android phones?

How many others think SD Card slot should be added to Google's minimum hardware requirements for Android?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Google doesn't have minimum hardware requirements on anything about Android which is one of the reasons why its so open but fragmented.
Manufacturers didn't listen to Google anyway when they wanted to add softkeys as seen on the gnexus. GS3? Old layout, capacitive, and single physical button. HOX? New layout but capacitive.
MOTO seems to be listening but probably because Mobility was bought by Google

Regardless of the google requirements, I think all manufacturers should think that microsd is mandatory. I have never purchased a phone/camera/pda etc in the last 10 years without sd/microsd.

Hi
Personally I would like an SD slot to be available on all Android devices. I would have loved for the HTC ONE X to have an expandable memory slot as I have had a few HTC devices and always been happy with them. My upgrade is due in a few months and for me anyway that is THE only deciding factor for choosing the Galaxy SIII over the One X. Both in my opinion are very good handsets and certainly do what I would want to do with them. But was gutted to see that there was no expandable slot. Yes, I know in these days 'Cloud services' will cater for most peoples needs, but I dont know why but I have always been wary of such services. Again, yes...I know, I am probably just being paranoid but for me nothing beats a memory card slot. :good:
All the contrary

Unfortunately, this is now all the contrary. Nexus devices will never have a SD slot, and Google would like manufacturers to do the same.

Can you cite a source for that last snippet of info?
Google have, to my knowledge, never dictated hardware to manufacturers for Android.
Internal memory is only going to get bigger, with 16GB being the minimum, and then a couple of years later 32GB will be the minimum.
OTG will remove the need for the removable feature as you will be able to get card readers to plug into the phone's socket.
With 4G speeds syncing to a cloud will be quick so the security/privacy/data loss through involvement with a toilet risks will be out weighed, or you'll sync to your home PC (something I'd much prefer) rather than through a 3rd party.
While it would be cool, I do not think google would ever do it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The day Google post a minimum system requirements for android phones, that day the user experience will be always fine! :highfive:
I think google will recommend manufacturers not to have ad card slot. Anyway IMO .. OTG is good enough

If you look at the Google nexus devices and look at the Google blog they want to remove SD card slots and deal only with internal and cloud based storage.

When the galaxy nexus came out there was reasons given for why they wanted to move away from sd. If anything google would be more likely to specify no sd slot.

If they completely remove micro SD card, then these phones shouldn't be called "smartphones", but "mediaphones". Even "dumbphones" have micro SD card slots, why shouldn't smart phones?

Would it be possible to upgrade the internal storage?

On every ROM I have used, it addresses the internal storage as either "/sdcard", or "/sdcard0". Would it be possible to replace the internal SD card with an aftermarket 32GB card? Assuming I got the phone dis-assembled, would it just be a plug-and-play operation, or would I need to actually soldier on a new chip to the motherboard?

Anyone found a good deal on 128GB sd cards in the UK?
Most of them I found are all 50+ quid. I should've bought the Sandisk card when it was 38.99 last month.
How good of a deal are we talking here? I found these two cards on Amazon with similar specs for the same price or cheaper. Curiously, I don't see this Samsung card on Amazon.

So is the Samsung card linked in the first post. Look at the Fry's website. It says UHS-1 grade 3 (which is what the U with the 3 in it on the card must refer to). But the two I linked on Amazon are also UHS-1 grade 3.
According to Wikipedia, there is no such thing as UHS-III or UHS-3, but there is UHS-I grade 3, which is what I think you're thinking of and what these cards are. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital

I remember using similar concepts for dual SIMs in my old Nokia feature phones and they worked well. They were quite flimsy so you could have one last just a couple of days or virtually forever, but they did work. I remember tucking the protruding bit behind the phone cover. Ah the memories.

I suggest using a 2000W hair dryer on the plastic side at one corner. Hold with two tweezers or long nose plier. The adhesive is strongest at the edges and top and bottom, short side of the simcard. Once you can pry back one corner it becomes easier. Don't force as you'd tear the chip/contacts. Also don't hold to the hair dryer for more than a few seconds...move the card away, peel then back to hair dryer again.
All the best.
Update: There is a big potential the simchip and memory card may jam and you cannot extract the sim tray.
