any1 try hand writing with a stylus? i know it sucks on the iPad, and also the Archos 101, but how is it on the Transformer? i need a tablet i can hand write on, so if you have tried it, let me know!
Capacitive touch screens and stylus support has always been relatively poor--there's just not enough precision. HTC might have licked it by adding an n-Trig digitizer to their newest 7-inch tablet (can't remember the name of the thing at the moment), but I haven't tried it myself.

today's amazon free-app is a keyboard app that supports hand-writing as input. it's call flext9
also supports voice, swype, and also a regular keyboard
try it out, it's free if you get it from amazon's app store.
or you could just try an app like genial writing with a boxwave stylus. I am using it for taking math notes at the university and my prof lectures like a machine gun.
My friend uses the ZeroStylus Pro and he says it's very good.

I've been using an app called handrite with the stylus. pretty solid. its fairly new, but the dev has pushed a couple updates in the couple weeks I have had it. Should get better over the next couple months.

I just ordered a boxwave stylus...that Genie app is da bomb!
Very intuitive, and very fast...just what I've been looking for.
I'm currently writting a note taking app. I'd love to hear some input (features etc). The current offerings felt really slow and lacking features to me.
I am looking at all the styli mentioned in this thread.. boxwave, targus etc etc.
The tips on all these look rather large/broad and dont seem that good for notetaking. It would seem that some precision would be lost.. kinda like writing a note with a broad-tip magic marker.
Is there a stylus out there with a "finer" tip?... or am I getting the wrong impression?

Ok...here are my suggestions after trying about 15 of them today....
1.) Speed...no lag...it's gotta feel really snappy.
2.) The UI has to allow for QUICK writing and clicking...no stuff scattered all over 20 different menus...
3.) I WISH that there were a way to allow laying the wrist on the screen while writing....(I know ....this aint gonna happen)
4.) One thing that I had a hard time with was the ratio of writing area to what is produced....I'd like to be able to write smaller and produce fairly large characters...I kept running out of room on a few of the apps and it's hard to scroll while writing.
5.) My opinion is that Genial and handwrite were what came closest to what I wanted.
IF you want a beta tester....I'll happily apply....

Repligo Reader. It's simply the best PDF reader out there for speed and rendering, and has all sorts of annotation features.

The Dagi is the closest. The problem is that the capacitive touch screens need a large area in order to register a touch. The Dagi at least allows you to see the "point" because of its transparent end. IMHO the tip still needs to be much more flexible because you still have to hold it relatively close to the correct angle for it to work well.

Yes, this is very difficult. Especially while keeping the tracking very fast. You're talking about analyzing the type (possibly area) of touch point basically. Android's event system makes this difficult. I hope they improve this soon.

Do any of these have an OCR (or CR I guess) type of thing? I use a pen and paper for taking notes currently, and it would be awesome if I could pick up a stylus have my tablet easily transcribe the notes for me.

I was wondering did anyone find any good stylus that is compatible with the hp touchpad. This was my main reason why I got the touchpad so I can use it for note taking and sketching. I want to get a really good one for the touchpad or for any future tablets i might get in the future.
This is what I´m searching for, too. I think the Wacom Bamboo Stylus is the best you can get for capazative displays at the moment...but it´s a bit too expensive for my taste. Any other suggestions?

I personally have some el-cheapo meritline stylii that didn't work with it at all -- I'll have to try those on the Touchpad. The HTC Flyer is supposed to have a nice stylus too, but I'm not sure if it has anything special to play nice with the Flyer hardware.
The other thing is - do you have a worthwhile note-taking or drawing app to use it with? I couldn't really find anything that seemed that great in the app catalog. I downloaded one drawing app, but it seemed a little kiddie-oriented.
Just a short info: flyer is another universe...it´s an active digitizer which is just working with special hardware...you can´t use an active digitizer on a normal capacitive screen

I know in what section i am, are you? Touchpad = WebOS + uncoming Android. Im giving him a suggestion for what to use if he migrates to Android when it comes. So if you got a better suggestion, go ahead.

k, so I have three, here's my review
1) generic rubber-tipped one - it was basically a plastic straw with a rubber bubble (hollow inside) at the end. It was ok for pointing, sucked at anything that needs a longer press since it was smooshy.
2) Dagi p501 - Works great once its held at the proper angle. The angle is not hard to hit, but once off, it feels a bit weird since it's not symmetrical.
3) Dagi p504 - GET THIS ONE. It's great, can easily write with it and its got a flexible tip, so it's always in full contact with the screen.
Caveat - the hp touchpad kinda sucks for note taking. When trying to draw a circle, it turns into more of an octagon. Maybe it's the application (Just draw, got from hp app cat) but i tried to do stuff with my viewsonic gtab and it was smooth enough to write cursive (though I had to remember how to write cursive)

Yes, that's the one... I have one of the "lite" versions on the NC. It's really good. I also have another one that's for note-taking, but you can write on the screen and it will put it inline with other text like in a notebook. Hopefully apps like this someday make their way to the TP one way or another.

Can you tell me the exact name for this keyboard? I searched in Amazon and it list tons of different keyboard, most are NOT for the 7+.

My local discount/closeout store (Marc's, here in Ohio) had a bluetooth keyboard that's a little big but the price was right... I think it would be big even with a 10" but I haven't compared it to the family iPad yet. Made by Merkury Innovations (no, that's not a typo), was $30 at the store, runs on 2 AAA batteries (which is great for a distracted individual like myself who forgets to charge up non-daily-use devices if they don't have very clear low-battery warning indicators). I've had a ThinkOutside folding Bluetooth Keyboard that I've been using with my MyTouch 4G Slide (when I want to type more than I want to do on a thumbboard - I use my Android devices for taking notes in my grad classes when I don't feel like lugging along my laptop). The ThinkOutside keyboard is great for portability so long as I'm not going to be typing numbers very much (has no dedicated number keys and I find the hold down function and number key combo annoying). I'm also working on a novel and the TO is great for that but my grad classes involve a lot of numeric input so I decided I wanted something with numbers. Tested out the MI keyboard, all the main keys are properly mapped. Not entirely sure about the control/option+alt/command keys. It is about the same keyspacing as a standard keyboard but very little room around the edges. Considering picking up another for our media PC hooked to the television in the family room (cheap nettop box, wanted something a bit more advanced than a roku for the kids to play educational games on & such). We use Unified Remote on our Android devices to control that television to good effect, keyboard would be more for the kids to use and this one is good footprint and price for that use also.

Which Marc's?
bought this at my local Fry's. I know it's a little bit longer than the Tab+ but I think it's the perfect size while not making the keys too small and thin enough when i want to pack a keyboard with me. I tried a few where the keyboard was exactly the same length as the tablet and the keys were so small and cramped that it wasn't worth it with all the errors introduced during my typing test.
Manufactured by Azio and can pair and switch between 6 different BT devices via hotkey.
The only thing i was hoping to see by now is a keyboard that has android shortcut keys for the home, back, search, and recent. Has anyone seen a hardware keyboard that does that?

I purchased that keyboard case from dealextreme. It took a wile to get here but was in good condition. The unit worked fine connected well and works as advertised. I do have several problems with it. The tab does not fit tightly in the holder. The case adds significantly to the size of the tab. There is nothing to hold the case closed. The final downfall is I think I can type faster on the onscreen keyboards.

Yeah I have the same keyboard. Works nicely in class lectures when I need to take notes. Then one day I forgot it (because it's so mahoosive) and found out I type faster and more accurately with thumb keyboard.....yeah.....

Logitech Tablet Keyboard
I just picked up a Logitech Tablet Keyboard (NOT the Logitech iPad keyboard - they are different models). Build quality is awesome - this is a solid yet still lightweight device. It had no problem pairing up with the GT+ and did not drop any keystrokes when I used it to type.
Added bonus - the Logitech keyboard fits perfectly in a Vera Bradley "Cheers to You" wine bottle tote. For the stylish girl geeks.
I have the Official Keyboard Dock from Samsung and I really enjoy it.
I finally decided and picked up the Logitech bluetooth keyboard for Android. Pretty nifty; seems like a sold keyboard, synched right away to my 7+, like the fact that the keyboard has its own case that converts into a stable angled perch for the 7+ and that you can use it with the table either in landscape or portrait. Though I do wish it had multiple tilt lockings so I can choose what angle my 7+is perched at. So far, very pleased with the purchase.

I've used the top one, it's heavy and clumsy and hard to use for extended periods. I've yet to find anything that beats your fingers for typing on screen.
well I get one off ebay, its the same thing, made from the same material, why waste 18 bucks while you can get it for 1 bucks.
I would say it does increase the accuracy, but since the screen has multipoint touch screen, you have to lift your hand in the air to take note. Its really not practical for me, I just use it to play draw something.

Actually the stylus mode works pretty well for me.I've been using it way before it was merged in the nightly. Dees Troy who wrote the mod recommened a capacitance style and it works nice. Check his thread on rootzwiki it was only like 5$ on eBay. I had bought a more expensive one before and it was not nearly as good. Reason being the fat tip was calibrated for the tp with his digitizer. There's a whole technical reason behind it if you are interested check it out.

I actually have a stylus and they're pretty cool. Only thing is there isn't a note taking app like the notetaker HD from Apple, I can't stand Apple, but I just wish someone would make an app on that par. And besides that is the multitouch problem. You can't have your hand rest on the screen or it'll take it as an input which sucks.

Yes you still need to lift your palm, the only difference that i can see is that when you change to stylus mode, its somehow more accurate and easier to write with, but that doesn't change the fact that its still hard to write in general.
At the end of the day, using a pen and paper is so much faster, easier, and better. I try to use ezpdf to annotate lecture note, but at the end I don't use it since its really hard to write with.

I received the Wacom Bamboo Stylus as a gift and it feels great. It weighs 18.9 grams so it feels fairly natural in hand. It kind of sucks that we dont have any good Notetaking apps though. Maybe webOS does but I know that I haven't been able to find a good app in the Play Store. GoSMS has a nice smooth response to styli if you use the doodle/handwriting function so if you don't mind having your notes in a picture form, it works very well. I wish their team would release a strictly notetaking app because they definitely hit the nail on the head. Or maybe if they released their source for the handwriting plugin, someone here on the forums could build an app for notes. Anyways, good luck on the stylus situation!

Have you tried Antipaper Notes? It seemed like could work well with a stylus.

You might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. I own this case for both of my TouchPad's and a similar version for my Nook Color. It works great, offers a lot of protection, and has a spot for a stylus.

I use this one on my Nexus 10. And it will probably work perfectly for the N9 too. I'm suspect Kensington may make one sized for the N9, but the one for 10" tablets will only provide more outer protection for a smaller tablet.
The N9 keyboard is not like the Asus Transformer Keyboards, which were built especially for that specific model of tablet. The N9 keyboard is just a bluetooth keyboard. There's no shortage of them on the market and any should work fine.

1 link, 2nd picture shows that the keys are smaller to have more space for the hand to rest on the keyboard, the 2nd link, first picture is this missing, but bigger keys

Well, there's one big problem with these cases. They cover both speakers. Beats me, why they didn't account for this, when designing the thing.

Yeah, looked at that one too, but I guess I decided that I didn't like the round keys. Also I saw in an interview that it is quite heavy and there for not ideal for using it as a note taking tool in class.

It does, but only as a pairing tool, it uses Bluetooth to maintain the connection.

I bought my Periboard 804 from Perixx and used it heavily about two years with my N7.1. It works like a charm!

I actually got it about a week ago, using it with my N7 while I wait for the N9 to ship. I really like it, yes it's heavy and not really meant to be taken around everywhere, but it's surprisingly sturdy and I think the extra heft will help with keeping the N9 in place when it's docked into the keyboard. Using it to type this post right now

Not bad
As I'm going to use my N9 for taking notes in class, I'm gonna need a lighter keyboard to carry around. So really considering the one from Microsoft

Speaking of using this in class, I've got the N9 and keyboard case pre-ordered but I'm debating the utility of it vs a smaller Windows notebook or convertible. Any thoughts on this?
I'm going to order this and keep my order on the Magic case. Much cheaper than $130

Thanks for posting about the Logitech keyboard. I think I am going to order one.
Just got the Microsoft Wedge Keyboard, I'll let you guys know how well it does, now I'm just waiting for the damn tablet to ship
