Note 3 to a S5 who plans on changing? - Galaxy Note 3 General

Well with the Galaxy S5 only a few months away now, as i don't believe it launch in January more like late March early April, who plans on changing from the Note 3 to the S5?
Rumors so far for the S5 are
5.25" QHD 2K screen with over 500ppi
3GB of Ram
Snapdragon 805 chipset
32GB as standard
16mp camera with OIS maybe
4K video without any limits
Premium body instead of plastic
If these specs turn out to be true, would you be tempted or will you hang on for the Note 4 in September?

For me to switch the S5 has to be different in a lot of ways. Preferably better looking, and now after having a 5.7inch screen... going back to something smaller won't cut it for me right now.
I went from S3 > HTC One and avoided the S4 because it wasn't much different to the S3 looks wise

No way..never going bk to a smaller screen

Its would take a lot to get me to switch to another phone now. Not a lot of flagships offer a dual sim version.

After many years I playing around some Android & iPhone
I would be stick with Note Family ( Note 2 / Note 3 / Note 4 ).
S Family ( S2 / S3 / S4) did not suit me enough.

I could not go back to a smaller screen. Nor will I give up my Spen.
- The metal casing rumour has already been killed by Sammobile&DigiTimes: Nobody is producing them. And it would make no marketing sense to heed the wishes of a few over the purchases of millions. Wishful thinking, the Note 3 was also 'certain' to have a metal case. Mine doesn't, does yours?
- It's just going to be an 2.5Ghz S800, not an S805.
- No curved display either.
Other than the screen, battery and spen, the specs are identical to the Note 3. As much as I would like 2K on my phone, imagine the battery drain on the by default much smaller battery, and lag. The Galaxy S lineup has always lagged. Adding 2K will only make matters worse...

Now i have mini 2 for almost one year and really i like it it have NFC but i wish Samsung release ics or jb for it so i can use NFC for beam beam and now i'm on cm10.1 kitkat soon but i'll gonna buy Nexus 6 i think when it released really i love nexus family

I agree that increasing the resolution and ppi could cause lags. IMO it is not productive at all. We already cannot see pixels, and my Note 3 screen shows exactly same area, if I open an excel sheet, or a map, or a book, as my i9305 S3 with 1280x720 screen.
I do not agree that Galaxy S lineup laggs. That's maybe true, but the reason is Touchwiz. Your own fault if you stick to it. I am running CM on my S3, and it flies. With CM 11 I don't think there is any difference compared to iPhone. Well maybe just sometimes .

Well the new features that the S4 is bringing will be coming in a software update to the S3, so if you already have the S3 it isn't really worth the upgrade.
It's the best phone you will be able to get... in the world. What do you mean is it worth it lol. But yeah if you have the s3, you might not need to upgrade. As I also have the Note 2, im waiting till the Note 4 comes out.
did he really just point out that the GS4 is just a stretched GS3... -_-
As a GSN2 user, the GS4 is a joke, I'll just wait for these random software upgrades comes to me.

Features one actually uses are the only features worth upgrading phones for. My wife still uses and loves the SGS 2. She has not want for the S3 or Note.
I don't need a 13MP camera. 5 is more than enough. 8 cores? I don't use what I have to it's maximum, except I belive battery life However, I have never used my extra battery on the Note 2 so battery life is plenty as I charge every night whether or not the phone is at 30% or 70%. Gimmicky features don't appeal to me.
Plastic does. Plastic = lighter and with larger and larger screens that is meaningful for me. I would love to see a Note 3 with a 6" screen and not use the Nexus.
The S3 for Note users is likely not worth the upgrade. For S3 users it very well may be. There are some nice additions as well but the N 3 will have them and more gimmicks in a few months.
If iPhone (i call it f*Phone) is being famous just adding 1or 2 new features every time ..and it considered worth upgrade..then why not Galaxy??? While it has every hardware and software is upgraded....

3 things that I was a bit disappointed with:
1. Screen is not a flexible one like the concept shown a while ago (with side screen for notifications)
2. Screen not flexible can be compensated by a larger screen (6"?), but it's not much bigger.
3. Why does it have to look like a gs2? Are we going backwards in fashion?
Just some of my thoughts...

^^ Well, screen might can bendable. But how do you bend those battery, and other circuits inside?
Even if that is possible as a prototype in labs, I am sure such tech is not ready for mass production. Not to forget, the cost associated will be just too high.
how big is the screen?
Front facing speakers and a bigger screen would of been the icing on the cake for me. Still can't wait to buy one though (just sold my note 2)

The big question is how locked down the bootloader will be and on which models/ carriers. For example since im in canada my s4 does not have and never did have a locked bootloader. The last update on at&t has negated the ability to do anything other than root at this point.
If the note 3 is going that route I will spend my money elsewhere, I hope this is not the case however

Personally, that's one of the selling points for me. I had an S2 and loved it because it was a powerful little thing and it's design is, in my opinion, better than Samsung devices since then.
If I'd liked the look of any Samsung device since then, chances are I would've stayed with them instead of venturing towards a Sony and HTC.
Yeah the specs are great but I wouldn't even think about buying the Note 3 if it looked similar to previous iterations.

As you can see by my signature, I have the One and have been amazed by the improvements by simply having front facing speakers so I definitely agree that it would've been a great addition.
As it currently stands though, it's not really much of a set back.

I feel the Note 3 is a great upgrade from what I've read. I like that it has a envelope tracker. Saving you up to 30% battery life while connected to LTE.
Then you have a very fast processor the S800 running at 2.3ghz max. The 330 GPU that will play anything on the market and many high end games to come. I'm not a very big gamer on phones but I think I will be if I got the Note 3.
I also like the new S-pen features, though there is more optimizations then features. It's still great what Samsung has done. Like the scrapbook, it now will save the metadata of whatever you put in you're scrapbook making it much more useful. And the new floating windows that you can open by just drawing a box of whatever size you want the app to run in.
Battery life is said to have up to 4 more hours of on screen time. Of course it all depends on what is on you're screen but still, I find that a big improvement. But it's mainly due to the S800, it's optimized much better then I thought it would have been. Of course this is all based off of what I've read. But it sounds about right.
Furthermore, you get a much more powerful device. In a all around smaller and lighter package. Sadly the screen is pentile from what I've seen so far. But at 1920x1080 and a 5.68" display pentile should be passable. I've read it looks just as good or better then the Note 2's display. And reading full non mobile web pages without zooming in shouldn't be a problem. Yes you can do that with the Note 2 but only in landscape mode.
I would love to be able to upgrade. It's been keeping me up at night... Gratz to everyone that's able to get this wonderful device.

Since I still have the Note 1, the Note 3 is a welcomed upgrade for me.
I wish the desktop feeling has improved when connecting the Note to a FullHD TV. I guess I will buy the Snapdrogon 800 version, since the octa core version will not be as good supported by Mod development, even if the Octa Core might be faster.
Engadget's Hands-on Review
Two years ago, at a consumer electronics show in Berlin, Samsung took to the stage and unveiled the introduction to what is now a booming smartphone genre. The 5.3-inch monstrosity, called the Galaxy Note, has blossomed into one of the Korean manufacturer's biggest brands. Today the same company is unveiling the Galaxy Note 3, the second sequel in a series of supersized stylus-smitten smartphones, which is even taller, narrower and thinner than the first two of its kind. As expected, the new 5.7-inch Note not only utilizes a S-Pen but enhances its functionality and adds better hardware and components to ensure it's able to handle anything you can throw at it.

Just a quick comparison, between the 2 newest things out there so far, Gnote3 vs LG G2:
http://www.androidcentral.com/quick-comparison-lg-g2-versus-samsung-galaxy-note-3
.
Murray Winiata, a NZ blogger, got hold of a Note 3 and posted his opinions on his twitter page yesterday. Overall he is very positive about it and he is a demanding and informed reviewer.
Some of you may remember he wrote a really detailed review of the Note 1 on his blog and hopefully he will get around to doing the same for the Note 3. I think he sometimes posts here too.

Galaxy Note 3 is disappointing

I "upgraded" from a Nexus 4 to the Note 3 because on paper it sounded fantastic (especially the full HD screen). However, the performance of the device is extremely disappointing. There's a real disconnect between swiping the screen and the software responding. A perfect example of this is in the browser(s) scrolling department. I find that it's worse on Chrome that it is with the other browser. Sometimes in mobile rendered pages scrolling if fine. But most of the time, it's very jittery (it's not fluid and pixel perfect smooth). Very bad for the end-user experience.
Another example: the official Engadget app. Scrolling is extremely choppy on the Note 3. I have found that going into the Developer Mode options and turning on "Force GPU rendering" makes scrolling in Engadget very smooth (although it still stutters).
I understand that what I'm describing will be very subjective, and there'll be many "no lag here" type posts. Just writing about my experience with the Galaxy Note 3. Personally, I find it extremely disappointing. I will never buy another Samsung product.
I'm loving every part of my note 3 so far and find everything smooth and responsive. Battery life has been excellent and the screen is a wonder. But it's all opinions and there will never be a phone that is universally liked by every single person.
Hopefully things will improve for you and you start to enjoy using this wonderful device

Yes, that's typical to Samsung, even with 3GB of RAM it's lags more than devices with 2 GB of RAM and that bunch of bloatware makes it work slower and plus KNOX that you can't to restore if it's changes to 0x1 so it's means you will loose your warranty.
What can I say, Samsung is getting worse and worse, I have my first and the last Samsung phone, because with that their stupid policy I won't buy their phones, and I think they will lose their position some day.
Do you have the S800 or Exynos model?

I'm assuming they mean "Smart Stay, Smart Pause" etc.
I own Sony xperia x ultra and I confirm that it is is much smoother than Note 3 even that has only 2 GO of RAM. But the note has a charm and other things that made a little lag just not important: sound quality, s planner, smart stay, camera quality. At the moment the Note is the best SMART PHONE on the market. ( I do own S4 and XZU). My dream device is Note 3 with IP67.

I checked out the Note 3 at an AT&T corporate store, and as I posted in one of my threads, it isn't very impressive. Note 1 feels much more premium compared to the Note 3.
There is something about Note 3 which screams "cheap toy!!" - maybe it's the build quality or the weight. Even the software isn't as snappy as it should be. I had to press the "Return"/"Back" and the "Menu" button three or four times sometimes to get it to work. I was very disappointed to see all this mediocrity in a flagship Samsung phone in 2013.
The LG G2 is what we call snappy and in my opinion (and Techno Buffalo's), it is the best Android phone ever in terms of speed and responsiveness. If the LG G2 had a stylus, I would drop the plan to buy the Note 3 in a second. Playing with the Note 3 for about 20 mins unexpectedly made me wonder if it was an upgrade at all over my Note 1, let alone a Note 2, and that's disappointing.

It's the usual flood of trolls that accompanies all newely released phones. They usually own a device or two from a company whose a competitor of the newely released phone. Nothing new really.

I have owned the Note 1 2 3 8 and 10
1. The Note 3 feels like a quality device. The software of the Note 3 is in a different league to the Note 1.

bye S4 - hello Note 3

I just got the Note 3 yesterday.
Let me make it clear by saying that I enjoyed every minute of owning the S4.
But I did start a thread saying I'll probably move to the N3 when it's released.
I actually moved from the Note1 to the S4.
I'm moved from the Note 1 to the S4 primarily because of the high-resolution screen and the LTE 4G.
But I was never really comfortable because the screen on the S4 was small something that I felt suffocated , claustrophobic.
My main concern or lets day apprehension was the possible difference in PPI.
I noticed.the ppi difference between the Note2 and Note3 immediately.
Yes it's there with the s4 vs n3 but not as much.
It's mostly there with apps that haven't adapted to the large format I think.
Other than disgustingly terrible battery life, I had no issues with the s4.
I liked the s4 ,was a great interim phone but my heart lies with the large sizes creens.
After using my S4 as primarily a media device I too am tempted by a bigger screen. Having good unlimited data has really brought this phone alive. The N3 is definitely something to consider.

Hope you enjoy your new device. For me personally, the S4 is as big as I'd ever want a daily carry smartphone to be. I'm a big guy, but anything larger than the S4 is just firmly into the Phablet category for me. And the battery life on my S4 has been outstanding with Juice Defender installed.

I used my iPad far less when I had my Note 1. Mostly when I was reading rss feeds & found with mobile versions.

the s4 is indeed perfect for the majority.
Shame its got the same crappy camera as the S4 (no image stabilisation)
Otherwise it's an awesome phone I must admit!
Does it has a guest mode ?????

I also came from the Note1 to the S4 and also very keen to get Note3 for the bigger screen, but yes, the camera isn't great for a 13mp. Also, just wish my fingers were longer to hold the N3 like the S4. Also i see they have dropped the FM radio in all the phones now... damn, i used to use it a lot. Note1 had FM, S4 and N3 not. Or maybe wait for S5, maybe screen slightly bigger bridging the gap a bit more to the Note 3... dunno... ramblings of a musthavenewphoneaholic
The worst part about note 3 Is being region lock SIM. I hate what Samsung is trying to impose on us.

Weird I came to s4 from note 2 but note 3 does not interest me? Maybe note 4.
Found note 2 too big in summer wearing shorts. Maybe in 6 months when note 3 is cheaper and a swap plus some cash?

Can you see the difference in screen brightness? Apparently the screen on the Note 3 is brighter than the Galaxy S4.

Does the note 3 also have the smearing issue?
Me Gusta!
I don't think I could handle a phone bigger than the S4. But to each his own

I would like to trade in my s4 for a lg g2 if I could! Starting to like the lg ui!

I hate to say this. You will be stuck with TouchWiz forever!

The N3 isn't that different from the N1.

That has nothing to do with the phone. Thats a management/administrative issue with Samsung as a corp.
Plus, just buy it from your region ?

Maybe the reduction from 5.5 to 5.0 didn't affect you.
It did for me when I went from 5.3 to 5.0 (N1 to S4).

I immediately saw a difference. Plus the S4 screen has a yellow tint, or the N3 has a white'ish tint.
I assumed the S4 was yellower and less bright because itd been used for a few months.

Its not easy. I don't have long fingers. Its about learning how to maneuver your fingers to secure a firm grip.
Easier done that said.

What do you mean? I'm running GO Launcher not TouchWiz.
Sure , I haven't removed touch wiz and its probably eating ram & CPU processing but what can I do ?
The delete icon is back on top in the gallery.
For some reason in the previous version they replaced the delete icon with the last used shared icon.
So to delete a picture you'd have to enter menu then find the delete button then press it, then confirm.
Now its an icon on top next to share and last used.
What a relief.
Why would they bury it in the menu settings anyways?

It looks like the Note 3 is better under sunlight.
What I hate with Note 3 is the high price and the fact that you need 2 hands for everything on it,apart the big screen it has nothing better
Note III isn't that "BIG" change from S4 i don't own the device but i didn't get "i must get it" since 4.3 update gets most of the "features i've seen" on the note III the new browser etc,
and if you wan't more note III features well, we can use the apps from the leak
also stock browser have been better, new thing is bad, loading pages isn't going as it once used to
I had a play around with a Note 3 a couple of days ago and I came to the same conclusion that I did with the Note 2 before it. Namely that it's too big to be practical as a mobile phone and too small to be a tablet. And that's coming from someone with big hands.
It looks lovely but it's not for me, the S4 at 5" is the perfect size for a mobile phone. And the screen looks smoother due to the increased DPI.
One thing that does interest me is the bootloader. Does it come with Knox by default?

yup it comes with Knox by default

So who will be jumping ship

Been comparing the s5 to the note 3 I'm still on the fence.
Will anyone be changing to the s5 or would Change of they could?
Also other then size what would be your reasons

i change my note 3 to the m8 soon.
but the note 3 is much better than the s5 imo. bigger screen (no problem, i have big hands), 1 gb more ram (m8 have 2gb to, but there are more pro's for the m8 though), better design. and much cheaper atm
Don't feel the need to upgrade, I love my 3gb of ram, bigger screen and the stylus.
I would however consider upgrading to the note 4 when it will come out... can't go to a smaller screen, note 4 should be a beast by the rumors.

I got the S5 as a secondary phone as the note 3 is just a touch big for some of my shorts pockets.
Both have their pros and cons but if I were to stick with only one, I'd stick with the note 3

Don't mind the looks, build quality and general experience of the M8 but the low res camera is a joke for 2014 and 16GB is not enough with the new Kitkat restrictions on external SD cards! Why are ALL these clowns making 16GB flagships when the external SD card has just been severely limited in use???
I made the same question when I had the Note 2 amd the S4 came.... I downgraded to S4 because the Note2 was big for my jeans pocket but the Note 2 is better than the S4. Now I ordered the Note 3 for the bigger screen and 3gb ram.
I'll jump ship to the Note 4 LOL
going to S5 would be retrocess..

I feel that its just the camera that's one up so no. Even if the note 4 comes out, unless its also water resistant, I don't think I'd trade my note 3 in.
I wouldn't go to the S5.. That would be a downgrade in my eyes.
The Note 3 still has a few advantages over the current crop 2014 smartphones, buying a S5,M8,Z2 is just wasting money I think.
Plus come end of the year, those that sold their Note 3 for a S5,M8,Z2 ect will only be selling it again "at a big loss" when the Note 4 arrives.
So no i won't be buying anything until the Note 4 arrives later on in the year, even then i'll wait until around Christmas time when the price will have dropped, as it did with the Note 3 when i bought it.
Until then I just hope Samsung doesn't now neglect the Note 3, with the lack of updates & fixes like they did with the Note 2.

I hesitated a long time as I wanted to see what competition came up with.
Both X2 and M8 looked nice but the reviews I read didn't convince me.
Last Saturday I couldn't resist and bought my Note 3.
OK the difference isn't that wild with the N2 but I don't regret it; it's like the 2 but far smoother and faster. Also the screen is way nicer.
I'm particularly amazed by the battery. With my 2 I'd be very close to 80% or even lower while my N3 is at 91%
I fear like you that updating will be a mess once Samsung launches the next generation but we'll have to live with that I guess.

I felt confident I wouldn't feel let down by getting the Note 3, and I don't. Even today I'd plump for the Note 3 over the S5, all being equal. The Note 4 will tempt me but I seriously think this is the first phone I will keep for two years. I just don't see any gamechangers or ways to improve on this form factor and hardware anytime soon. Only bigger/better battery upgrades or a jump up in camera would make a big difference.
Short version: hardware is fantastic and so is the software

I held S5 in my hands last weekend. There is no comparison. It looks and feels cheap and small. I'll be keeping my Note 3.
I've got both. I prefer my Note 3.
The S5 is convenient when you need something dust/waterproof. (my N3 could not have survived yesterday's close encounter with a pool. (I hate the smell of chlorine!))
My hands are quite small (glove size 6, female), but I have no issues with the size of the note 3.
Also, as an Intuos user, I very much love the Spen.

If you have a Note 3 then you already have the better phone.
surely , note 3 is still #1
M8 , G2 pro , S5 ... doesn't have the s-pen .
S-pen is the reason then i'm in love with note 3 .
just note 4 can come on top of note 3 .
I have not used the Spen much. It doesn't help much with my use. Maybe someone can post a few tips using the Spen ??

Unless you like to spill money, you won't be going for s5 or even m8. They may be great phones but note 3 is a beast, a pure complete phone for multitasking.
