One SkyRocket Roms? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Please forgive if this is a stupid question.
I was wondering can I use a ROM from the AT&T S2 on the AT&T S2 Skyrocket?

No it will brick it

A common mistake on this forum. All ROMs must be device specific.

Hahaha, thanks for that one.
Now one last question, since the T-Mobile S2 (Hercules) is the same phone as Skyrocket is it possible to get those ROMs working on the Skyrocket? Or because of the different networks it will not work?

You have to flash the fix (there should be one in the dev forum), but there have been Herc roms that have worked in the past. Do your research, though, and be cautious.

As someone else mentioned yes u can, but u dont have to flash a compatibility package to make them work. Once u flash the t989 Rom before rebooting flash a kernel ( DAG or flapjacks new aosp kernels, either one) as well.as a skyrocket radio, and THEN reboot. Change apn to enable mms and internet/data and you're.good to go

{Q} Galaxy S II Roms that works on Skyrocket!

Does any one tried any Roms from other Galaxy S II that works on Skyrocket?
technically speaking... any rom "should" work if it doesn't touch the kernel code.
HOWEVER... any ROM that changes the framework might give you some issues. one example I can already imagine is that the 4G LTE will not be display correctly.

T989 is possible. Only ROMs from GS2 line that running Qualcomm SoCs could possibly port.
Anyone know how long it takes to learn to make custom ROM's? Is there a FAQ about it? Do you need to be a programmer, or just be familiar with the Linux kernel?
And it begins ...
The next sticky in this section needs to be "Recovering after bricking your skyrocket with a i777 ROM" I bet it would quickly become the most popular thread here.

Seriously though, you just need to learn the device hardware/software components, their functions and how they all interact then you should at least be able to tell what will/won't work together.
I don't know squat about how to create a ROM or mod these things, but 5mins of reading tells me that The TSGS2/OGSGS2/ASGS2 Rom's are not interchangeable since the Kernels/Radios aren't compatible due hardware differences.
Shouldn't we only need an original base rom or an ATT ROM dump to get started though? What about rogers & Telus LTE roms? Could we work with those as a base?

Nope, CM7 uses an AOSP based kernel.. the only kernel we have available for the i727 is the stock AT&T kernel.
Patience.. think about this for a second... either create a Rom or get started learning . Development for this monster is inevitable ..

just so i got this straight

i just picked up a rooted and unlocked skyrocket. now i have been reading a lot of the how to's and other mods for the phone. to clarify though i can run any t989 rom or any i 727 skyrocket rom on the phone? also all i need to do is flash the tmobile radio pack for 3/4 g on tmobile?
i wont do anything until i get confirmation. no need to brick my shiny new white skyrocket lol.
any other tips ideas would be helpful and awesome!!!
I'm pretty sure you should only flash at&t from if you have at&t, and T-Mobile if you have T-Mobile. The carrier settings usually come with the rom, so if you have at&t and flash a T-Mobile you probably won't get any connectivity.
Just my thought, but I'm no dev. Do a search on the forums.

And as long as u stay in the skyrocket and t989 section you'll be fine.
Almost all people brick. Doing thing they shouldn't. Or flashing stuff from a diff device.

almost positive thats a NO.. maybe unlocking it which would probably cost you if even available..
I'm 100% positive that's a yes. Here's a basic writeup as I couldn't find the thread from my phone
sim unlock phone (there's threads on this but basically go to any unlock Site and buy a skyrocket code)
flash cwm
flash a radio from this thread:

I recommend blaze 4G radio
flash a t989 rom.
that's it, ur done.

hi man, could you give me a combo of Which rom + radio + kernel that use to get 3g/4g on and unlocked i727 using a Tmobile sim?

A man i was wondering did you ever get that radio to pick up 4g on your unlocked skyrocket? Because i am trying to figure out how to get 4g on mine.
I have 4g on T-Mobile. Just set the apn correctly. It was a little more difficult to do in the past but now you can just install CM9 the apn is already there for you. You just have to pick it. The blaze radio worked the best.

[Q] New Owner Help

So my sister's getting an S2 Skyrocket, and unlocking it for T-Mobile. I want to root, but I also want the official Jelly Bean update. Do I just flash the leak? On the leak thread, it talks about radios. Do I need to worry about that? We don't have data, only text and voice. So what exactly do I need to flash? I don't know about kernels or radios.

Since it's your sisters phone why do "you" want to root it and get an official update?
I bet she wouldn't notice any difference.
Since your sounding unsure on what to actually do, I wouldn't be messing with her phone, as you might end up having a brick. (and a mighty upset sister)
Personally let her get it unlocked and use it as is.
But if you must...Embryo 6.0 is out Get it here
