{Q} Galaxy S II Roms that works on Skyrocket! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Does any one tried any Roms from other Galaxy S II that works on Skyrocket?

technically speaking... any rom "should" work if it doesn't touch the kernel code.
HOWEVER... any ROM that changes the framework might give you some issues. one example I can already imagine is that the 4G LTE will not be display correctly.

If it is from the AT&T GS2 forum, no it will not work. The phones are different in almost all aspects.

T989 is possible. Only ROMs from GS2 line that running Qualcomm SoCs could possibly port.

Anyone know how long it takes to learn to make custom ROM's? Is there a FAQ about it? Do you need to be a programmer, or just be familiar with the Linux kernel?

And it begins ...
The next sticky in this section needs to be "Recovering after bricking your skyrocket with a i777 ROM" I bet it would quickly become the most popular thread here.

Seriously though, you just need to learn the device hardware/software components, their functions and how they all interact then you should at least be able to tell what will/won't work together.
I don't know squat about how to create a ROM or mod these things, but 5mins of reading tells me that The TSGS2/OGSGS2/ASGS2 Rom's are not interchangeable since the Kernels/Radios aren't compatible due hardware differences.
Shouldn't we only need an original base rom or an ATT ROM dump to get started though? What about rogers & Telus LTE roms? Could we work with those as a base?

Anyone would like me to port my BeastMOD ROM?

But would be nice if you guys help me get this hone so i can work on it since it has the same processor as my Tmo SGSII and mods will be easy to port to this phone. Would like to dev here. Doupt about me? Check out my thanks meter ;-)

Nope, CM7 uses an AOSP based kernel.. the only kernel we have available for the i727 is the stock AT&T kernel.

Patience.. think about this for a second... either create a Rom or get started learning . Development for this monster is inevitable ..

Noob to SGS4G for T Mobile...

Okay people I just bought this phone and I'm coming from MyTouch 4G. I've been reading for the past 2 days about how to flash a SGS4G and honestly,..it's crazy! Little overwhelming to be Honest...to the point, I rooted my phone with Superoneclick, I have superuser, so I know it's rooted. Plus, I have Titanium Backup running on my phone. Everything is still FACTORY SET on the phone. It is running 2.2.1 Froyo. I did read about Froyo udate zip CWM and recovery and have downloaded them. My question is since I want to flash A Rom does it have to be Froyo only? If there is such a thing?? Or can it be Gingerbread 2.3.6? And is there anything else I need to download? I know I have to follow to the tee on the OP that the Dev. says to do. I just want to be sure exactly what I need to do..

The gb ext4 starter pack saved me alot of headache when I first got this phone. Hands down it is the best way to go. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly. Its guides like this and the people that make them that make XDA so great.
I'm new to it as well and like you are saying, it's overwhelming to root and flash on this phone. But I followed the GB starter pack the other day and included the Vahalla Final rom as my choice and everything worked great. Some things actually happened a hair different than described and I thought it screwed up but it worked.
But I think I just screwed up trying to do a restore

I'm on the same boat as the OP, I have a mytouch 4g and my cousin is about to upgrade soon, so she offered to sell me her galaxy s 4g for $75 so I'm gonna take up on it.
I've been spying on the forums here and have noticed that most of your guys' roms are gingerbread roms, (i didn't really bother to search, for I don't know for sure I'll keep this phone or sell both my mt4g and this new phone for a galaxy s ii), but anyways, I saw something about porting roms from the other galaxy phones, am I right?
I haven't seen any ics roms here yet, but I took a look at the vibrant forums and it appears they have an ics rom and i was wondering would porting the ics rom from the vibrant be possible if I wanted to try. Thanks

Most will tell you if you want a rom ported do it yourself. The devs are working on what they are working on. It isn't really our place as end-users to make request (my opinion of course) rather be grateful for all the awesome **** they have done and are working on. So no... it isn't easy.
And yes --> We have some fantastic ROMS.

Unofficial Port - MIUI v4 v2.1.20

It was announce that there is an for unofficial port of MIUI v4 v2.1.20 for the Galaxy S II. Apparently it is quite stable and was wondering if what the chances are of us MIUI starved Infuse owners can look forward to a port of this on our devices?
I realized I should have put a [Q] at the beginning but can't edit topic. Mods please fix if you feel the same way.

MIUI starved.. what's wrong with boosted?
my thoughts exactly
Actually, nothing. It was just a question from someone with an insatiable appetite for loading ROMs on their hardware.
Is that ok or did I break an unspoken rule?
what he was trying to say is boost has already ported it for the infuse its in the dev section

Uh, I was just looking up on MIUI rom and I have got a question. Why is CM more popular? MIUI seems like a much nicer experience.
MIUI is much newer, supports quite few devices and it's basically based on CM. To get MIUI u must first have CM /AOSP.

How do you make an Odin flash able ROM and one for CWM?
Sent from my GT-I9103 using XDA App
I've heard that NVflash is a lower level of firmware flashing than Odin and NVflash makes Optimus 2x almost inbrickable.
Is it possible that we can have this method for our phones too?

Odin flashable roms aren't easy to make! And CWM needs an Updater-Script which have to be written according to our custom rom n file structure! Take a look at herehttp://freeyourandroid.com to get u started..

Seeking advice on building AOSP
Hi,
I want to learn building ROMS. I am aware that it is a difficult job, but I want to give it a try. I have read the AOSP buld instructions, but they don't mention the steps involved in creating a new build target. I understand that the process is maybe different for each device, so could any of the ROM developers here please tell me about the steps involved in doing the same for our Galaxy R?
If the answer is very involved, a short summary and relevant links will help a lot, too.

GB or ICS?

So I'm having difficulties deciding between the two. Which has better features and more stable roms? Also will having rogers version i727r make a difference? Don't wanna brick on my first flash. Any help is appreciated
I use SKY ICS.... I was reluctant at first, but since I switched it's been better than his GB ROM. Make the switch, you won't regret it.

I understand that there is still no fix for the Caller Name/ID issue on Rogers with ICS. That has held me back so far.

I have been holding off from ICS because of the caller id issue. Flashed a couple roms from the first leak but went back to GB.

You have to flash the fix (there should be one in the dev forum), but there have been Herc roms that have worked in the past. Do your research, though, and be cautious.

As someone else mentioned yes u can, but u dont have to flash a compatibility package to make them work. Once u flash the t989 Rom before rebooting flash a kernel ( DAG or flapjacks new aosp kernels, either one) as well.as a skyrocket radio, and THEN reboot. Change apn to enable mms and internet/data and you're.good to go
