[Q] AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-i727 - Issues - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Ok... So I just purchased the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-i727 Today! It has a GREAT option to Set Up the device online with all of your Info and the availability to customize your phone! You simply log into type in a Web Address and use the Code that is presented on the front of the device upon first boot. However after I completed all of the steps an "ERROR" message appears on the phone that stated connection was lost and I was provided another Code to use to set it up. Failed AGAIN! Great option if it would work. So I attempted again with another New Code. I just set up my G-mail Info and clicked Finish! Success... But so much for Easy Set-Up with the "Easy Set-Up Program. And to the BIGGER issue! While in "Portrait View" the following keys do NOT work; "R", "X", "D", and "@"!!! Wow, Not a good start! And to top that off while is "Landscape View" the above keys work without issue. However... The following keys do NOT work; "K", "J", "L"! I did a complete Factory Reset and still same result! Has anyone else experienced these OR any other issues with this device???? P.S. No update available at this time...

No problems here. Take it back for service if your keys aren't working... if they are on the same part of your screen in both modes maybe it's broken.

Yet another RETURN!
Sorry about the Color.
...Yeah... It will be back to the AT&T store for me in the morning.

No problem. Might want to give it another chance - It's pretty much the top performing phone out there. Just sounds like you got a bad one.

Definitely!!! I have pretty much owned EVERY AT&T phone worth having, including the Samsung Galaxy S II (Returned for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket) and Samsung Infuse! Not about to give up on it yet!

why back to Atrix, just change the phone... maybe that one was defective....

I'll suggest not to use at&t ready2go crap. If you need to backup your data use kies.

DONT BELIEVE THE LIES........
it WILL hit other carriers, verizon may get a month of exclusive. but if you noticed at one point Verizon had that term " EXCLUSIVE " on there site for the nexus.
last time i checked that TERM is no longer there. i wonder why. BECAUSE ITS NOT
it will either T-mobile or AT&T. big Red aint got that much pull sorry.

Seriously doubt that. We MAY get the opportunity to buy an unlocked GSM version, but I bet we don't see a subsidized version.

may not hit At&t....only Verizon though. Naw

Ah the nexus prime, were Andriod blew its shot to go head to head with the 4s. It should of released subsidized on all carriers a few days after it was announced.

Those cancelling HOX preorders, what makes you think the S3 BL won't be locked?

I've seen a few people say they are cancelling their HOX preorders and getting the S3 over this whole BL issue. I am just curious if people think it will be a different story with the S3. To me, it seems that AT&T is behind the lock and I assume they would just as quickly lock down the S3. What do you guys think?
I think it'll be just like vivid..it will be unlockable in around month..I hope lol either way I'm keeping mine it's beautiful!

Samsung dosent lock their bootloaders.
Samsung has generally been rather good at unlocking... Or just not properly.securing BL.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I have been using my Samsung Captivate which was always easy to do whatever with. I just thought that it came from a different point in Android BL openness history
Would just like to add that the BL lock does suck, but this is by far the best stock experience I have ever had on any mobile device. That also includes iOS.

I agree. HTC has done a bang up job, but dammit I want Stock ICS
I think Samsung has a lot more pull with the carriers too. The Galaxy SIII was the most hyped phone in a long time... I don't think AT&T would just turn down the Galaxy SIII cause Samsung wants the boot loader unlocked.
I doubt SGS3 will be locked. But still Im not mad about HTC's Bootloader lock since it works so well out the box (like the Vivid after ICS) as long as it works well, im happy. Honestly im not in a hurry to root since i wouldnt know what to do except mess around since i dont think i need anything improved as of today (except wifi bug, but htc should fix soon)

My biggest thing is tethering, since I would have to give up my grandfathered unlimited data plan to get it with root.
The only thing I would be looking forward to would be a debloated stock ROM. I am loving this stock experience. Oh and also for occasional wifi tethering.
I actually just bought this phone from the AT&T store today.. switched from a Galaxy S2, rooted with CM7.2.
The stock experience on this phone is.. amazing, to say the least. The display alone is just crazy. It feels like I'm looking at a photo, or one of those stickers on the phones you can't actually mess with in stores.
While it sucks not being able to root + drop a custom ROM on here.. I'm willing to wait until it eventually happens. The out of box experience is head and shoulders above any other Android phone I've used (Nexus One, Galaxy S2, Droid Incredible). If it never gets unlocked.. well, I'll still be happy with my purchase.

There are alot of non-root tethering apps. Koush's works great.
Disclaimer: I have not tried it with the One X yet, but it worked on my old Droid X fine.

[Q] Warranty hard bricked AT&T A2 ?

Hello all guys here,
Me and some man here just hard bricked our A2 due to come back GB from ICS leak, which is forbidden !
Mine was from AT&T and still in warranty when I checked here, but it is unlocked grey item, not from any contract.
alteredlikeness finished his warranty, had a new phone and answered my question :
alteredlikeness said:
Yes, they ask for your personal information so that they can confirm that you are a customer. They won't give non-customers replacements.. And, Motorola only tells you to send it in for repair...
Let's put it this way, I was on the phone with Moto for almost 2 hours and they only offered me to send it in for repair (or, call my carrier and see what they can do). And, I was on the phone with AT&T for 5 minutes total, and they offered me a replacement within 3 minutes, before I could even ask for one...

But I wonder, if I send it directly to Motorola for Service and Repair, do they accept it as "In warranty" as their site checked ?
If the answer is YES, they will exchange for free
If NO, maybe we have to pay "$109 plus applicable taxes" for "Out-of-Warranty" option - that is acceptable price for a new mainboard - IMO.
Any idea ?
Thanks ! :victory:

Just go to the Motorola mobility site for the atrix 2 and either chat with a support rep through the website, or there is a number to call them at the bottom of the page. There was someone else already who contacted them and was told that they do not support the A2 in that persons country, and they would not even allow him to send the phone in for repairs, even for a price. The only way you can know for sure, is to contact Motorola directly.
Thanks Jim,
I think I will send it to my brother who living in Boston - USA first, then he will take it to Motorola. Just want to know how Moto's behavior is before I do it.

That right there will probably save you some huge headaches, since the AT&T version is a US phone... just realize they might be able to JTAG the device and see that the ICS leak was applied, and give you no support. Just want to let you know that, just so you get prepared. You might think about finding someplace that can JTAG it for you, that is in your half of the world. I am guessing there are places on the web that do that service, which you can send it to.
Oh so I save money and maybe my next phone will be Sammy S3 like you ...

Dude, I can not say enough great things about the SGS 3 and I have never liked the sammy phones until this one. I had a captivate, and I vowed after that to never have another samsung galaxy phone, until this one. I am switching between CM9 and CM10 right now every other day just to see all the progress we are making with the Jelly bean and project butter coding in the CM10 dailies.
The Atrix2 is my last Motorola phone. I also have a Xoom, and that is why I go this phone, hoping it would be like the xoom, but the A2 is too locked down for any real good mods.
Yeah I would save up for the SGS 3 it is a monster piece of hardware just don't buy a verizon version as they locked the bootloader on that one only.

Guys, the SGS 3 with CM9 and even the CM10 builds have been AMAZING!!!! I am getting 48 hours with decent use on a charge with CM9 and CM10, and with the stock I was getting about 20+ hours with the same amount of use.
With CM9 and CM10, there is no way any other phone even comes close in terms of performance, battery, useability and fun. With CM10 and project butter, it is just fantastic performance and smooth as butter.... LOL.
See all you guys over there... and the forum over there is handeled much better no one puts up with crap over there, and bad posts get removed so fast it is not even funny.

Good luck, I hope you get it, it is a bad A$$ phone, and so easy to do anything to and you have CWM working by default on this phone.. just flash the rooted image with ODIN and then install ROM Manager, and have it flash the latest version of recovery and touch recovery works so nice.....

I also hard bricked my phone, but I'm kinda glad I did. I went to AT&T and told them it bricked from an OTA update, so they told me they'll send out a new one and I'll have to ship the bricked one to them. Then I was going to exchange the new one along with my Samsung Captivate for the Galaxy S III (in total I'll get $120 off ). My question is, is there a chance that AT&T will figure out I bricked it from the leaked update?

The SGS 3 all the way... the one x does not have an SDcard slot, so you HAVE to have unlimited data, and if you don't then you are going to be screwed if you like to have music and pics and stuff at your fingertips, because you will have to use cloud services for all that. Oh and the one x does not have a replaceable battery. Oh and AOSP and AOKP have official builds for the SGS 3, good luck with that on the one X.
Good! I was afraid that they would of asked for the replacement back after I traded it for a GSIII. Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

They will ask for it back possibly, but don't worry, I have done this with phones I have totally hacked, and I always play very dumb and act like it is AT&T's fault my phone broke... they really do not care, becuase they will have already given you your upgrade... just say that you did a factory rest and had to redo the OTA and it will not even turn on now... they will pretty much tell you NP, just don't say the words ICS or leak...

Sprint in south Florida

OK I'm starting this post for my buddy who has a sprint galaxy nexus we live in south Florida and spring took there towers off line today to do some service to there towers well when they put them back online they deactivated his service and when he called customer service he told them his phone was rooted and unlocked with a custom ROM and they told him that sprint probably seen that his phone was rooted and that is why they deactivated his device well he has it back on now and is getting no data what so ever
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
cant see that happening tbh, why would a phone network care about what you do to your device? Only the phone manufacturer would care about you invalidating your warranty if you were to book it in for repair.

Tell him to do a profile update. Settings -> About Phone -> Sprint updates -> Update Profile (if I remember correctly) and then Update PRL. Otherwise just call up Sprint and tell them he's not getting data and they should be able to refresh his profile from their end. Also, they can't do anything about you rooting your phone as it's yours. If he starts tethering like 50GB a month or something stupid like that, then yeah there's an issue. But I'm assume it's normal usage. Why he even bothered telling the lady his phone is rooted is beyond me...No offense, but that was pretty stupid.

Hey what's up guys? I'm the guy with the Sprint issues. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all why they would care about my device but the way she made it sound was that Sprint cannot restore my 3g data because my device was rooted. She told me that my best bet would be to flash back to stop and start over. She concluded with an offer to follow up with me after I flashed back to stock and she could rectify the data situation then. Call me crazy but I think I want the opinion of the guys who know what's going on and not the one of the chick reading off her computer screen. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Several things I have to say:
1. Do not EVER EVER EVER tell your phone company that you rooted your device because the things that run through their mind are:
a) ****! Now he can tether without paying!
b) We're not fixing your phone now because you voided the warranty.
I hope she didn't put notes on your account for b) because that can prevent you from getting your phone repaired in a Sprint store.
Also, it depends what software is on your phone. Have you tried going back to stock? Have you tried calling Sprint again and not mentioning that your phone is rooted?

I asked her if there were going to be notes on my account mentioning it being rooted and she said yes but she said she was putting another note stating that the phone was being returned to stock. So I don't know. I'm learning and the main thing I'm learning is that the more I try to learn about this ****, the worse it's getting. The thing I hate the most is that this is a way to break away from the communist machine that is Sprint but somehow they still have me by the balls.

Technician notes are different from account notes, so if you were to go into a store for a repair I'm sure they wouldn't see that. Try reactivating your phone. Call Sprint, tell them:
"I called a while ago because I was having issues with data. A rep told me to punch in a code in the dialer and he also gave me the MSL code for my phone, but I can't find where I wrote it down. Do you mind telling me how to re-do the Handsfree Activation?"
Follow the instructions and see if that works. If nothing comes up on the dialer when you punch in the code, your ROM doesn't have Handsfree-Activation included. Try going to a stock ROM or ROM that has the Sprint menus in it.

I'm gonna have to jump on this first thing in the morning. Thanks for the advice. I will post any results on this thread as they unfold.
I would go as far to say it would be illegal for the phone company to cut you off for tethering a device that you own. (There are apps such as FoxFi that bypass the 'tethering tax' mobile networks try to claim) However, as someone said previously if you are downloading heavily then I guess they could cut you off for that.
At T-Mobile, NO such policy of cutting you off exists and they rely solely on throttling and packet shaping.

Thing is, he barely knows what he's doing. He's rooted and ROM'd but that's it. He's new to this whole thing. I don't even think he was tethering; I was just using it as an example for why a phone company wouldn't want you rooting their devices. But yeah I agree, you can't get cut off for modifying your device like that unless it was doing something that it logically should not be able to do (like if you were using it as a 24/7 server to host a website or something crazy).

Warranty exchange question

Okay so I was on Synergy 1.7 and Beans and I had GPS issues. The GPS would never lock on. I turned on Navigation and it would stay stuck on "searching for GPS". I Odined back to stock and same issue. So now I'm thinking I need to exchange it. Two questions tho.
1) will I need to contact Verizon or Samsung for the exchange?
2) I got this from a trade here in XDA. Will this affect me getting an exchange?
Thanks in advance

Well you can take it in to Verizon but I don't think they would exchange it, especially if you bought/traded/etc it from a third party. In my experience they would just claim it was abused or messed with by you or previous owner and offer to "fix" it for a price.
1. Verizon
2. I can't say.
Before you call up Verizon, though, I recommend you search the Synergy thread for a GPS fix. I remember someone working it all out, though I don't recall the specifics. I figure you'd rather go through that than swap devices.

Yea the lead developer said if GPS issues continue, to flash back to stock. Flashed back to stock, still the same GPS issues as before.

You think it would make a difference if I left out the "I got this from a trade" part if I talk to them?

As long as you didn't get it from them, they will most likely give you a hard time about exchanging it because if not from Verizon, you had to get it from a third party used :/
Damn that sucks. Maybe someone else can chip in. I'd like other opinions. I don't wanna be stuck with this GPS issue :/

Jay would try an app from the market and see if the app will get a lock on the gps. The app is GPS Test and run it to see if you get a lock.

Hey Jay,
I have actually done manufacturers warranty claims on phones that I have purchased through a 3rd party (eBay) a few times with Verizon. I don't offer up where I got the phone, but they don't generally ask either (in my experience). The phone should still be covered under the 1 year warranty with Samsung, Verizon just honors that warranty for you and ships out a different refurbished phone in its place. As long as you put a stock image back on your original phone before sending it back in you shouldn't have any problems.
Also, I usually tell them right up front that I "went into a store and worked with their tech support people who gave me this number to call to get a replacement phone. Already did 2 factory resets and checked that I had the latest software update and it didn't help at all." That usually helps to bypass all of the generic tech support questions that they ask and just get down to getting your new phone.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Thank you so much. I'll try this out after I try a few other things to try to get my GPS to work. I'm currently completely stock so I'm hoping I find a way. So they send you the refurb phone and they give you like a box to send it back like Asurion does with insurance claims?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, they send you a refurb phone and you keep your original battery, battery cover, sim, and SD Card. Then place the old phone back in the box and affix the return tag that was included with the replacement phone. It's super easy.

Yea, that is how Verizon handles it.
Does anyone know how Samsung would handle it if you try to go through them like the other guy suggested? I'm in the same boat and would rather return to Samsung than Verizon (I hate that Verizon gives me a used phone in exchange for a phone that I paid full price for and bought new). I feel like Samsung would want me to send the phone back to them first, which I cant really do because I need my phone and don't want to activate an older phone and lose my unlimited data.

AT&T $100 Trade-in Promotion Starting

I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

not sure if its worth returning the gs4 and re-buying it again using a trade in.... when i could sell the trade in phone for 200 on CL and making my phone free....
I do have a old captivate... I wonder what condition does it have to be in?

It is true. It starts tomorrow May 1st. Bring in any smartphone 3 years and newer in working condition, no cracked screens, etc. and receive $100 towards the purchase of a smartphone $199 or more.

I'm starting to hate AT&T even more. I recently tried to get an early upgrade (60 days away) & was turned down over the phone. It really pissed me off since I've been a long time customer in good standing. Pissed me off so much, I've been considering going to TMO & now they do this to me. Hopefully this last for more than 30 days since they won't budge unless im within 30 days or less.
Can you trade in a rooted and unlocked phone that has been flashed?
I want the S4 pretty badly and I want to trade in my 1 year old HTC One X but I unlocked, rooted and flashed this thing.

So re-lock and unroot it?
You can probably sell the phone for way more on eBay or some other places. It's not worth giving it to att.

Took in my 2 year old gs2 and picked up 100 off the s4. Just reverted to stock from aokp. Dont think it was worth the hassle of selling on ebay.

does anyone know how extensively they check the phone at the store? My phone works perfectly except that for some reason I can't get any service on it. I've tried fixing and troubleshooting for a while but have given up so I'm looking to get back some money for it. So does anyone know if they will check the phone for reception?

I removed the sim from mine and it was at the setup screen (touch the android) and that was it. It was only checked to be sure it would power on and nothing further.

Thanks for the quick responses, I really appreciate it and am glad I'll be able to at least get something for it. Thanks again
Do i need to revert to stock to trade in?
What if I have CM10 running on my GS2? Honestly, they should give me more money for that (because it is more than functional)

I wouldn't think its necessary based on my experience this morning. They just checked to see if it lit up when turned on.
Does anyone know if they would accept a CDMA version of iPhone 4?? I have one sitting around collecting dust. Great condition.

They check the imei/serial number on them. You can check on the website and see if it will work.
