Comparison between G2X and Sensation based on real world experience - T-Mobile LG G2x

Yesterday, I purchased a HTC Sensation from Walmart. I spent the day comparing it to my G2X (which I still have) and decided to see how the phones stack up against each other. The following are my observations:
Screen: I think this one comes down to preference. It's a hard call saying which one looks better than the other. The Sensation did not have any backlight bleeding (my G2X has minimal bleeding). When looking at the same picture on both phones side by side, the G2X seemed to be brighter. The viewing angles on the Sensation were not as extreme as on the G2X, but they were fine (unless your were looking at it from an extreme unnatural angle lol)
Performance: After having used a G2X since it came out, it took a little bit of getting used to the way the Sensation performs. That's not to say it's slow by any means (because it isn't), it just performs differently than the G2X. The Sensation has a lot of transition animations that the G2X doesn't have and this can make it feel slower than the G2X. For example, when you hit the home button on the G2X it takes you straight to the launcher, whereas when you hit the home button on the Sensation it fades into the launcher which takes about a split second longer. After a while I turned the animations setting on "some animations" because I prefer the snappiness of not having so many transitions than having all the eye candy. Of course this is just a personal preference. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will appreciate the eye candy. In using the phone I did not experience any slowdowns or lag. The phone was very responsive. All in all, I'd say both phones are on par with each other when it comes to responsiveness.
Sound: The Sensation wins this one easily. The sound on the G2X is very tinny and gets easily somewhat distorted. While the speakers on the Sensation aren't as good as some phones I've had (such as the Nexus S) they are definitely a higher quality than that of the G2X. The G2X does get a little bit louder than the Sensation, but it's sound quality is not on the same level.
Camera: The camera on the Sensation definitely responds faster than that of the G2X. As far as clarity goes, both phones take pretty decent pictures. I don't really see a world of difference between the two phones. I am pretty satisfied with the cameras on both phones.
Battery Life: Since I have only had the Sensation for one day I can't really speak to in depth on it's battery life. That being said, I will say this, I took the phone off of the charger with the battery around 80%ish and I had 3 hours of phone conversation, about 10 minutes shy of two hours of screen on time, push exchange email, facebook syncing, texting, and web browsing and the battery lasted me a little over 6 hours. This leads me to believe that the battery life on the Sensation is better than that of the G2X. My G2X in the same scenario would have died out much sooner than that.
Conclusion: It's hard for me to say which phone is "better". If you were trying to decide on a phone that was ready to go today, I would say go with the Sensation. Though I've only had it for a day, I did play with it extensively and I did not find any bugs. On my first day of having the G2X, I had already had multiple reboots and freezing. The Sense UI is a bit of an adjustment when coming from vanilla android but it is definitely very nice and very well implemented. The one gripe that I do have with the Sensation is that for some reason it doesn't seem to support bluetooth voice dialing natively. I noticed the leaked G2X gingerbread rom has the same problem so I'm not sure if it's a gingerbread problem or what. Hopefully this thread helps those that might be on the fence between the two phones. If there is anything that I missed that you want to know, just let me know.

Thanks for the great review. I have been considering purchasing a Sensation to go with my G2X. AFter reading a lot of reviews I had decided against it. After reading your review I am back on the fence again as to whether to buy it off contract or not.lol Would be interested in your findings after about a week . Once again thanks for posting an honest objective review!!!!!

Have you tried the death grip on this? Supposedly covering the back of the phone with your palm kills all the radio signals.

Yeah I've tried to replicate it but really couldn't. Now if I deliberately cover the phone in a way to intentionally block the signal then yeah you can lose signal, but of course that is true on every phone lol. I think whoever decided that to be an "issue" might have been someone just looking to fine problems, because I don't see any way possible you could unintentionally do that.

I don't actually believe you can do it with every phone to the same extent. Like the iPhone 4 with the Sensation, your skin comes into direct contact with the antenna (or at least the cover which houses it) which causes MORE attenuation then say the G2X.
In the G2X the antenna is inside the phone and then there's a battery cover between it and your hands so your skin/hands NEVER touch the antenna. With the Sensation your fingers touch the antenna (exact issue as iPhone 4) so it will cause a disruption to your signal greater than the G2X.
Even if I cover my G2X completely with a deathgrip I don't see anything close to the results that gsmarena video shows. Not saying this is a dealbreaker but don't fool yourself to say this isn't a possible problem depending on how you hold your phone.

The Sensation death grip is supposedly only for WiFi and Bluetooth (the two holes near the camera). Every report I've seen indicates the cell radio is not impacted...at least that is my understanding.

Well now it's a deathgrip thread. Wack.
Great review.
Gotta say I did like the sensation. It's a tad heavier then the g2x and I really liked that.
I only got to play with one for a minute but I loved the screen. I think it's got a really nice screen.
I did notice lag. The app drawer did have a slight delay before it would open.
Not a the fade out effect it does. Also the weather app was nice. Really like that.
But my g2x is faster.
Really that's all. The g2x is just as nice feeling.
Now the kicker.
I would just use adw ex on either phone. And I love the speed of the g2x.
Either phone would make me happy. But until I get gingerbread on my g2x is can't give an honest opinion.
Because my g2x is faster on 2.2. Has no issues but screen bleed. That never bothers me
So when 2.3 drops.
I was actually looking at the evo 3d now.
I may have to check it out.

I would think even if the death grip exists, the vast majority of superphone owners use a protective case, so that should really never be a major issue.
To the OP.... thanks a BUNCH for your real world comparison! That's exactly the kind of info I needed. I'll still be within my exchange window when the Sensation hits T-Mo stores on the 15th and I'm still undecided if I want to return my G2X. The screen size and resolution of the Sensation is very appealing to me

I don't know, I'm hearing that there are quite a few problems with the Sensation. A buddy of mine got one yesterday and his is locking up and randomly rebooting on him. He's had problems with the GPS locking on and also says the audio leaves a lot to be desired.
Also, if you go to the Sensation forum here on XDA you can see that people are reporting various problems. One that concerns me is several people are reporting that dust particles are getting in behind their screens. That's not cool at all...

Here's a direct comparison against the SGS2. The phone signal is effected but not to the degree Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are. You'll need to use Google Translate.

Basically what I expect it to do is go into the bluetooth voice dialing prompt (like it does on the G2X). I don't really want to have to use Vlingo.

hows the wifi calling

Im good with my G2X I need a Gyroscope for future gaming and 1 gig rom wont cut it and I hate quadrant on the snapdragon but sensation is a great device but so many hardware woes no Gyroscope people keep not pointing out witch is on the iPhone 4 and galaxy s 2 and LG 2X only.

Someone posted the fix. That's why I didn't understand what you were trying to do. Kind of stupid on HTC's part.

Having left T-mo with a MT4G to go to *SpRent with the EVO4G and now back with the Mo I was looking for a HTC-ish device. The G2x was the common ground I decided on. I still own 2 Evo4g's (hustler plug) and have been waiting for this Sensation of a deal for T-Mo. Your review seems legit and non biased. Would like to hear what happens within a month of usage though.
"Y a month?" because within in that time, to me, you will have done what ever type of testing (unknowingly) there is to do with the device repeatedly in the many environments you frequent. And been able to post its abilities against the G2x under any and all situations you normally face.
See you in the Future

I've only used the wifi calling a few times so far, but I will say it's been stable.
In other news: I've noticed that the bluetooth signal strength is not as strong as on the G2X. With my G2X I could put the phone on the charger and go upstairs or go outside and get as far as the driveway. With the Sensation I get about half the range that I was getting with the G2X.

My initial opinions of the Inspire 4G

I just got the Inspire 4G the other day at an HTC conference. (Work related)
For years I've used an iPhone for my primary device. I'm no stranger to Android. I've had a Nexus One and a Samsung Captivate. The inspire in the best android phone I have used yet.
The Captivate is an aweful phone. A GPS that works when it wants to, FoYo that never arrived....etc... I installed a custom ROM (Cognition) and it brought new life to the phone and was a better experience, but I am of the opinion that I shouldn't have to use custom ROMs to make the phone work the way it is supposed to or to have the latest software when it should have already been available. Who knows when FoYo does come out for the captivate if it will be any good or will it still be better to use a custom ROM. On the Inspire I feel as if I don't need to run a custom ROM because it is great the way it is.....so far.
Two issues I did notice with the Inspire that I have verified that others I know with the phone are having as well.
1) The call quality is horrible! It's very treblely and just sounds terrible.
2) The external speaker is definately not loud enough. That seems to be a trait of HTC phones and cheap, low quality speakers.
For example on point #2. I have my own customer ringtones and sound effects for text and emails, which are the same ones I used on my iPhone. I wear my phone in a leather pouch on my belt. I can hardly hear when I get a text or the phone is ringing. Thankfully I have it set to vibrate at the same time, and if I didn't feel it vibrate I would never know I am getting a text or a call. That is very annoying. Especially when it is worn on my belt, I should be able to hear it. I don't know if this can be fixed via a software upgrade or if it is just cheap parts.
On my iPhone, if my phone is downstairs and I am upstairs, I can clearly hear loudly when I get a text or call. The iPhone has a much better speaker.
The Inspire is a very fast phone as far as the OS goes. The internet is also faster, it seems like the phone is connecting to AT&T's imitation 4G service. The battery life isn't that great though.
I am disappointed that AT&T decided to remove the front facing camera. Also it seems like the phone isn't as thick as the EVO, although it does have some good weight to it. It definately does NOT feel cheap.
The Hot Spot feature works pretty good, although I just briefly played with it.
Well that's my brief opinion for the moment. The phone is really nice, but the external speaker volume issue might force me to go back to my iPhone for primary use and knock my Inspire back to secondary play phone.
Awesome, I can't wait.
hmmm i have read a few reviews that said call quality is awesome, Mobiletech review and infosync come to mind, maybe its just some handsets

I dunno, maybe they have hearing issues. But many people I've talked to that went to the same conference that I did that also got phones made the same comments I did. Bad call quality and dretful speaker volume.
Also on a a differnet note, I used to date a girl from Manapalan years ago. I would have done anything for her back in the day. Something about Jersey girls.

This model (Desire HD) never had a front camera... wasn't AT&T's doing.
I just cant decide if I wanna give up my i4 for this. I wanna buy outright but sometimes I just cant justify that price when I think of other things I could buy for that amount of money. The front facing camera doesnt bother me because I have had an i4 since launch and used it maybe 4 times. I just worry about size and the speaker volume. I know that overtime with roms that can be fixed so not so worried about that. My options now are to sell wait for someone to sell and the get a new itouch for the ios fix. Sorry but imo itunes just works for me, the only phone I've used as an audio device would be my iphone. I just really like android and flashing and always having the latest on it and have been back and forth since the g1. I just sometimes dont like all the time it takes away from life having to read up all the time or keep up with the latest. Anyways enough rambling just my thoughts.

The only time I've used my front camera is to see if there is food in my teeth, so I don't think I'll miss not having a front camera.

Do you think the inspire is a better device all round when compared to a flashed captivate?

No worries on the low volume problem, TEST THIS ON YOUR DEVICES AND COMMENT PLEASE
An easy fix for the low external speaker volume is this app, created by the infamous Meltus from xda.
Its a must if indeed the speaker is low:

Yes I definately think it's a better device. Sure the Captivate is a good device when using a custom rom, but I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't need to run a custom rom to make the device work the way it is ment to. Plus when you run a customer rom is just has the feel of being pieced together from various parts and not really a complete experience.
HTC sense does make a world of difference. It is more than just an overlay like Touchwiz or Launcher Pro...etc... I used to be a diehard pure stock android experience, but Sense won me over. It adds so much to the device.
But the two issues I originally mentioned are a problem though. The tinny call quality and the low external speaker volume are things to take into consideration. It's terrible when you can't even hear the phone ring when it's on your hip. So far I've missed calls and SMS if my phone is in one room of my house and I am in another, whereas I could hear my iPhone even if I am upstairs and my phone is downstairs.
Today I emailed our area HTC rep and told her the problems that I and others are having and she is passing the info up the ladder. I said to her that I find it odd that HTC's quality control didn't notice the crappy speaker on the device and that I couldn't recommend the phone to my customers at this time until I hear of a resolution to the problems.
So although I love the Inspire and think it's a very good phone, I would hold off buying it until there is a bug fix or something to the speaker problems. I might have to go back to my iPhone 4 for the time being until HTC fixes the phone.
Before anyone makes a decisions on buying it, you might want to wait until the Motorola Atrix comes and compare the two.
After spending a day with the Inspire I promptly ditched my iP4. I also have a Captivate running Cognition and it just gets destroyed by the Inspire. I haven't been able to test battery life, but I know what I'm in for in that department.
The Inspire is quite simply very fast. Ran Quadrant to compare to other phones I've had this year as well. My Captivate running Cognition gets about 1500, while the Inspire was around 1900 each time. I've never used a phone that blew through that benchmark so fast. Neocore got around 57fps so that's very solid as well. GPS connected quickly, but I only tested it outdoors as that's where I would generally use it. Speaker is a bit weak, but sound is pretty fantastic through headphones. YouTube video played smooth and looked amazing. It's a much better YouTube experience than the iP4 imo.

Seriously? No carrier is using true 4g. HSPA+ is considered 4g now; Just look at T-Mobile.
Can anyone compare the speakers to a nexus one? Same question for battery life, granted it may be a little early for that.

I used to have a Nexus One last year, and always thought the external speaker was horrible on that also, but it was a bit louder than the Inspire.
Although I didn't think the call quality of the N1 was bad. The call quality is horrible on the Inspire, whether through the earpiece or the speaker phone.

Based on your experiences so far, how would you rank the Inspire 4G to the Motorola Atrix? I'm waiting to make up my mind on my next upgrade. The battery life and front facing camera are really hard for me to get past, but I'm not a major fan of Motoblur either (although I know the Tegra 2 processors should handle that ok).
Great write-ups guys, that's good information to hear. Concerning the speeds compared to other phones, remember that you're using a new phone and comparing it to other phones that are bogged down by applications and data files.
Back a few weeks ago I thought my captivate was fast Oced at 1.2. I rooted to install a newer version of the ROM, master cleaned it, and it was even faster stock than it was OCed before.
Exactly my worry. We've put all the work into the Captivate only to buy an inferior phone out of the box...

Depressing. Unlike many people, I value excellent call quality above being able to get a 5m gps fix in 10 seconds. The captivate does have the former going for it...

My personal opinion on the G2X

I rarely make threads on XDA, but I must share my opinion on this handset.
Ive owned several phones. MT4G, 3G AND 4G Vibrants, G2, and currently the G2x, and I have NEVER had the problems in which Im having to deal with now.
Im on my second G2x. My first was riddled with random reboots, black screens of death, and terrible data connections. I couldnt even charge my first one overnight without it dying in the middle of the night. My phone was my alarm clock, so when I cant wake up on time, theres a major problem.
My second handset has only froze on me twice, but Ive also only had it a week. It stays awake and I can actually use it as an alarm clock, but the current issue Im having would be the HORRENDOUS data drops. I cant even receive phone calls because the phone cannot maintain a connection.
I am APPALLED that TMO would allow such a buggy handset to release. I looked past the light bleeding, Ive looked past the glitches and Ive looked past TMO AND LG pussyfooting around with the updates. But I cannot, and I will not deal with a phone that cannot make or receive phone calls. Whats the point of owning a PHONE that cannot do its primary job?
I agree. I had these same arguments with Verizon. My g2x has been ok. But it does need help.

my wife has the mt4g as well, i looked at her phone 2 nights ago right after looking at mine, and realized how crappy her phones screen is compared to the G2x.
the only things i hate, absolutely hate about the G2x is the lack of trackpad and no dedicated camera button. the camera thing i can deal with, but the trackpad loss is just plain ****ty, coming from a G2 and a MT4g myself both having them and using it to unlock.
i have had crummy luck with phones, for years. the G2x needs a lot of love and help, but overall i am satisfied, and im sure, just like the G2, it will get wayyyyy better. battery life since installing faux kernel and CM7 #34 battery life seems a lot better. the fact that i can see this screen in direct sunlight makes me want to not return this device. the G2 just plain sucks in direct sunlight to the point where it is literally a worthless device, and in moderate sunlight is almost as useless. the G2x on 25% is more functional in daylight compared to the G2 on full brightness. this phone is great, and will scream when the SW catches up to the hardwares ability.

I have a G2X sitting in a box. T-Mobile won't take it back and the battery driver is so bad that I can't reliably tell when it will die on me. I'm on the second battery - the first got so hot that it was uncomfortable to touch and smelled like melting plastic.
So I'm not feeling like letting the phone charge without supervision is such a great idea.
A hard look at the source of the battery driver didn't exactly inspire confidence, either. I mean, seriously, a released production device full of comments like "get capacity using battery voltage for demo". Yeah, good stuff.
A complete and utter lemon of a phone, at least so far. And I, too, am pretty disappointed with TMO.
The battery life issue is annoying. Ill agree that's the biggest issue I have from a sw standpoint.

Fok these threads..
My opinion. And I've had a n1, hd2, sgs, tp2 etcccc. And this is the fastest, most stable phone I've had.the build quality is amazing and the phone never reboots, never locks up. This phone ia the ****.even the reviews praise it...
Get a new battery, and stop crying .. I've had 3 and all of em have had no issues other then me scratching and one dust.. No screen of death, no reboots (did on my hd2, n1 and sgs, hell tp2s as well), battery is not the best but not the worst......
I recommend this phone to anyone.. Its great.... The haters here will just hate, thats how it goes....... Peace and love

WHY ARE THEY DUMB?
people having problems with the G2x can't talk about it? Only praises huh? Okay, I'll try that first. I love the fact that my G2x has a 30 day return policy!
Glad you recommend it. I don't. Well, I do if you don't mind the high risk of random reboots, overheating, $hitty battery life and constant drop kicked calls.
If you're a big gambler...go for it.
If you require a little more quality control....wait a little for the better devices to drop.
I've had a G2X for two weeks (after having an HD2 that I absolutely loved and tweaked like crazy), and I think the complaints are valid, and it's all based around the stock ROM. The ROM it ships with is crap, and it's that ROM that causes the battery drain issues (something about the drivers, QIK, and all the other bloatware that can't be deleted), and more than likely is the source of those random reboots and some of the other issues people are having.
I switched to EaglesBlood 1.02 (tried 1.03 and 1.04... I like 1.02 the best) and i haven't had any of those issues. My battery lasts over 24 hours consistently with what I consider regular usage (about an hour worth of wi-fi, lots of web browsing over 4G, about 15 to 20 8mp pictures and maybe 3 or 4 minutes worth of 720p video [smoother frame rate], and a day's worth of calls and texts... and occasionally a few games). It lasts longer than my HD2 did, and runs much better now.
Hopefully once the real Gingerbread update is released it will fix those issues for everyone, but in the meantime I suggest trying a new ROM. The beauty of the G2X is it's dual core without a locked bootloader... take advantage.

Exactly, I am stunned that when people open a thread that they don't need to read, or the simple could care less about others user's experience....why these people that should just continue on to other threads, decided that they need to chip in a 140 character twit remark. I think some of the numb-skulls have hundreds of one line posting...which are basically like farting in a room and walking away, thinking themselves to be clever.
My screen is fine, in fact I think that after I left it face up on my passenger seat that it might have cured some of the glues...might have tightened it up....definitely too early to call.
But the connectivity issues are now becoming a real burden.
1. I lost the ability to hold data connections, after a reboot, they would be there and then get lost. I uninstalled all my task manager stuff, problem was still there....then did some Hard Restores, which put the functionality back.
2. Battery life seems better now. But maintaining a connection in Wifi, is flaky. Since I have no signal at the house I need Wifi, just for phone calls. I have had experience with on a computer it loosing wifi, and then restoring itself, in 20 seconds or less, but after the G2x craps out, its left with real problems.
3. Being new to T-Mobile I think either the phone is not using its hardware correctly to pickup the signal, or the signal on T-Mobile just sucks. Hopefully 2.3 will fix much of this.
4. The build quality, the case, the screen, the touch panel, I like them all, but if it can not have connectivity....its nothing.
5. All my phones I use for alarms, none of them have needed connection in order to be able to put out the alarm....I assume this is true for the G2x.
6. There are now a bunch of HTC Sensation reviews, which I am going to be reviewing. Right now the complaints are the screen is nice, but its not IPS, and the screen angles are weak. I am going to figure out how the hardware is, but I really will need to see a review of it, working on the T-Mobile network.
7. As much as I like the G2x hardware, I mostly need connectivity. I probably need to see if anyone has posted how well their G2x works with early installs of bootleg Gingerbreads. If the connectivity is not improved, I will need a different phone.

Did you try contacting customer retention? There is no way they will not allow you to exchange that phone for the same/different of equal value.

It comes to the point that the complaints are spamming the forum..... When there are already threads to voice your opinion..... Creating a new thread for already fore mentioned issues is just as Annoying as g2x problems that so many ppl are petty about

Its definitely not hard to ignore a thread. I think you create more spam COMPLAINING about people that make threads than the actual threads.
All I know is, this is the G2X general forum and Ive made a general post about the feelings of the G2X. Whats the problem here? Other people have done the same. Thats what a FORUM is about.
I have been very pleased with my G2x.. light screen bleed.. no reboots, freezing... over all a bad ass phone. Battery life for me has been great, comes off the charger at 6am used throughout the day (wifi, 4g, texting, phone calls, YouTube and so on.) Then it gets put back on charger at 10-11pm with 15-10% left to spare. Guess I got a good battery too.

Was reading over at the Sensation Thread... That new phone has ZERO issues, aww some

Take a gander over at the Sensation thread....way more concerns than the G2x.
1. Death Grip.
2. Assembly issues.
3. Screen not being sealed, dust getting in, joints not connected.
4. Switching automatically into Silent mode.
5. Two screen manufacturers one with very bad viewing angles SHARP....AUO seemly the better one....jury still out.
6. Speaker and microphone problems.
7. Touchscreen problems.
I am pretty sure some threads will be started about how TMOnews is saying the Sensation is being pulled. Some earnest posters will soon be saying they want to do a class action for their 1 week old phone, instead of just returning it outright.
Basically everything is always greener on the phone that is yet to be released. At least with LG you actually will get a screen made by LG. HTC is kinda like the Vizio of cell phones.
Remember: Doing a full system rebuild reset (clearing out everything and reset option) will cool down your phone, and extend battery length. Something about recognizing the battery size properly is thought to be reason. Its the first thing to do on a new phone. Accessed through the menus
Come on Tom. I am happy with my G2X but I am sure that the Sensation will not be pulled from stores for a month without any word from HTC and T-mobile . I'm also sure that folks that have them don't have to go through 3 of them to get a working one or flash a custom rom to keep it from rebooting. AGAIN . I love my G2X but at least the sensation shipped with gingerbread .

Lets not be jealous of what other people have.
I had the G2x from day one till a week ago. Had so many issues, with bleeding, with phone rebooting, with EVERYTHING. My brother and my girlfriend also had the same issues with the G2x. I got the sensation, and I have had 0 issues so far.
Yes, the only thing is death grip, but guess what.. the G2x has it too. Every phone has it. But when do you get it ? Only when you put the phone in the palm of your hand, and cover it completely.
If someone holds the phone like that - they are probably not supposed to have a phone in the first time.
So please dont go talking **** about the Sensation, just by looking at what the noobs are saying about it.
Like every other phone - there are a few issues with it, as some people get dust and whatnot, but guess what - they get a replacement and it works.
I got 3 G2x replacements - all had the same issues as the previous. Constant rebooting or freezing, horrible HORRIBLE backlight bleeding.. NO THANK YOU! I use my phone for business and can not afford using a phone that will randomly just freeze and not work at all.
Again, I have had 0 issues with my sensation, other than the fact that it has no root so far. But we are getting there. And not just me - I got 3 phones, they all work perfectly fine.
Go ahead, get yourself a sensation, feel it, see it, play with it - and then say that the G2x is better.

I have both the phones with me. Below are the things i found in my usage.
1) I tried to play some games on sensation and I just couldn't. The games i am talking about are NANO PANDA, JENGA, KONAS CRATE, PEGGLE. I could load them and play for only 10 mins max. It was really really slow. But G2X was treating these games like piece of cake. So fast and easy to load. On top of that when i try to play these kind of games and then go back home on sensation, the sense would do a soft reset itself because of memory issue or whatever it may be.
2) Whenever i restart my phone, i loose the icons from my home of the apps which are on SD card. Time to Time i also have to delete widgets from home screen and add them back on, otherwise i get jagged lines on the widgets.
3) on the same wifi network g2x was able to pull 10mbps down, 3 mbps up. At the same time sensation was able to pull 4mbps down and 2.5mbps up. STRANGE.
4) Stability wise still sensation is a little bit better than G2X. But when you use sensation for 1 week straight and do not touch G2X. And after that week when you play with G2X, my GODDDD, you will feel the speed. G2X is so so so much faster and fluid than sensation.
NOTE TO PPL WHO ARE CONSIDERING SENSATION:-
its a good phone, but its nowhere near g2x imo. wait for the g2x patch, i am sure that would resolve all the software related issues. do not rush and get sensation. trust me, you are just getting one hell of a laggy but beautiful phone.
Well the G2x is pretty sound hardware wise... it just shipped with crappy software. At least it was unlocked and able to allow the Devs here to fix them.
Hardware problems are different. The Sensations touchscreen issues could be resolved via drivers... or they could just have a crappy digitizer like we had on the Nexus One (fake multitouch). These are things that make the phone kinda crappy because it could turn into a real issue that is unresolvable.
I don't know but lets be real, every phone I've had I run custom roms. If a custom rom is a good fix to solve pretty much all the problems of a new phone... wouldn't it make sense to go that route instead of just enduring the issues?
The Sensation is currently locked down so no devs are able to try and fix those issues. Your forced to stick it out until either HTC sends out an updated rom (months) or they unlock the bootloader (maybe never, but probably eventually).
Those are some crappy odds. I'd much rather take the much more powerful G2x, load a custom CM7 rom, and have the best of both worlds. I have a newer version of Android on my G2x then the Sensation has (2.3.4 vs 2.3.3), it is super fast, solid, and more powerful. Why would anyone not want that?
Just my two cents. I ended up with the sensation. I still own my g2x. I feel so far the sensation is a better phone. I can't play my purchased tegra games which sucks. But I have a 50" tv with ps3 and 360 for all that nonsense. I need my phone to work and not be a pain in the as! I had a love hate relation with my g2x. Seems the bottom line is that the phone was a great idea but ended up a failure! Am very happy (so far) with the sensation, does what it is suppose to do. Haven't seen any dust or had any issues. Fingers crossed! I will be selling my g2x.

My sentiments exactly. I've had no issues with my sensation at all, and when compared to the issues I had with the G2X it isn't close. I'm at 17 days now with the Sensation and I have not had a single crash or reboot. Deathgrip is a non-issue and there is no screen bleed. While I do like G2X I feel like my Sensation is much more stable and reliable than it is. That may possibly change with a G2X update, but for the time being at least the grass is definitely greener for me. OP I agree with t0ny0, your posts definitely sounds like you've got a bit of jealousy going there.

Jealously? Not really, though I would surely like that Samsung Inspire with its 4.5 super Amoled Plus screen. If Jealously is not the name of an Android phone yet....it surely will be soon.
I was trying to be "ironical" with the posting....actually I would say from the threads it looks to be about the same amount of issues....saying greater was an overstep. The grass is greener on the phone yet to be released is the basic point.
I do think that the G2x shipped earlier than it should have....it got to be the first dual on Android by that....it should have shipped with 2.3 by all rights. I sorta think the 2.3 release will be the first release.
I get throughput to my phone in good areas of 9000 mbps...I am wanting better reception in bad areas, but being new to TM and without the ability to use other phones, I am not sure if I am better or worse....I see some comments on reception on the Sensation being better....but not enough to be sure either way.
I like the Sensation as a phone, as with the G2x...too switch phones at this point is gonna be hard, unless I throw a tantrum. I had the ability inside of 30 to get the Sensation, so I was closely following it. I think they both have advantages....but what is keeping with the G2x is raw horsepower, which should be strong enough to run all the future Androids in the next two years or more.
I also like the real H-IPS screen, its near as good color wise as the Super Amoled+, much better than the Sensation on color and off angle viewing, and better for small text than the Amoled+, though its getting very close now with the +. The GF has Ip4, which is the best screen still, with zero bleed fwiw too.
SUPER-LCD is just a marketing term, its not any technology besides for being the most current and best TN technology for LCDs. Its TN still. Samsungs new PLS type is different from PVA though.
Besides the irony posting for the sensation awaiting the Sensation....I fully understand and can not fault either anyone who prefers one to the other. They are peer level phones, with physical advantages over each other. It a taste thing.....I would prefer the samsung Inspire 4.5 super amoled + over either....as a pure piece of hardware, nothing is close to the Iphone 4, glass on both sides, metal all the way around, lovely little brick....all wasted and nullified as soon as its put into an Otter. Most form factor stuff besides screen size is moot once its put in a case.
but I digress...I must be jealous, but I don't have enough commitment to be jealous of anything in particular, for long.

These things amaze me. Many people just to prove their point or for whatever reason say that they use their phone for business or for taking videos and pictures of their child's first time doing something. who in their right mind would use g2x or sensation or any other smart phone for so important stuff like these? I don't use anything except landline for my work and for taking pictures or videos I don't use anything but my digital slr camera and handy cam. think of it this way, no matter what a phone was shipped with, it will have flaws and SW updates will be required...so no matter what we are updating the device
I had a G2X....switched to a Sensation. Happy I did...but of course, to each their own.
I wanted the 4.3 qHD 16:9 display + 1080p @ 30fps in stereo.
Simple choice for me.
Silly how people say mine is best, mine is best. As soon as you get your next device the G2X will suck? Right?
Personal preference.
Both devices have their respective issues. Both devices outshine the other in different areas.
Come back to reality OP
No sir I am sure I am living in the current era and that's the reason I have house full of gadgets and also sensation and g2x. But I also like photography and I also like to work without thinking about dying battery or network outage. Have you ever seen any professional photographer taking pictures with his cell phone? Or have you seen any company putting out smart phone out on your desk? I wonder why. If I want to look at the photographs of my wedding or my honeymoon or my baby taking his first step or even outing with my friends I want them to be crispy clear. And no phone camera has ever taken pictures even close to even any entry level slr camera.
Phones and these gadgets are my hobby for which my work pays. But with these gadgets nobody can do any real world 8-10 hours job.

Full Week review after owning the G2x first

First off this isn't another comparison to the G2x thread, but more of a Thank God I switched for the sensation thread.
The sensation Is gorgeous. At first it looked funny to me, but then, it started to look and feel like my old N1 (the back anyways). I love the design. The shell that completely cases the screen is awesome. The way their back is half the phone is incredible. Only thing id change is id put speakers on the bottom, I loved that about the G2x.
Speed is awesome. Yes its not as wham bamm boom boom like the g2x fast, but it is consistent in speed and its plenty fast enough considering the amount of recources the phone is using,( I.E. Sense and bloat). Like someone else mentioned also, its almost as if the apps on the sensation load faster, respond faster, etc. That could be due to the extra .2 ghz i guess.
Camera completely destroys the G2x. If camera was your strong point on the g2x, well the sensation has just as good of app for the camera and takes a pic a hell of a lot faster than the g2x. Although I think the G2x FFC is light years ahead of the grainy Sensation FFC. G2x actually took sweet FFC pics.
The Video camera is great. I love how if you get out of focus at any point, just touch the screen and let it refocus. the g2x wouldn't refocus worth a turd.
GPS is also better than the G2x. At first g2x was good, but then it just started taking longer to get locks.. Pissed me off. The sensation so far is a steady 5 seconds.. My tracks was also very nice. SO happy
Battery. Honestly Ive never really seen a difference in any of my phones.lol From the Htc touch, tp1, tp2, n1, vibrant, hd2 etc. They all seem to have the same general heavy use time (constant) but so far IMO its about the same is my G2x, but I was one with great battery on the g2x so that's saying the sensation has it good.
screen is awesome as well. WE all know there are 2 types and honestly I could really care which I get. Its not the selling point to me in the phone. Anyways its nice. The 4.3 really don't feel that big from the way they cut down on surrounding material beyond the screen. They fit it very nice into a little for factor and IMO the design of the back is how they achieved this.
This is my first sense device. Ive never been a fan cause it was to bloated and just wow. Sense 3.0 seems nice. Theres a lot to customize, but things are very organized and laid out nicely. Im still kinda learning the ropes, but all around I think its a darn stinking good UI, YETTTTT is a little hard on the battery.
Damn Damn Damn, Did I say Damn? I wish we had root. I need Screen shots, remove bloat, and download some of those cool apps that I didn't know even took root, until I re downloaded them and it denied me access. lol Who knew root was so important. lol. Although Im getting along without it.
Reception is good. My g2x struggled here and my sensation does much better. So 2 thumbs up for that shiat stew.
General bugs i've noticed are Just a ****ass piece of dust under the screen like 5, but honestly there so small that most people wouldn't (I read the smallest line at doctors that they dont even use on the test, just did if for ****s and giggles) see it and trying to get it replaced would be dumb since they probably wouldn't see it and Ive got all together a flawless device. I also never see them, period. Unless I'm in the sun and got all the other dust off (which is hard cause it instantly comes back, and even then, if you screen has em on em anyways, who cares about a few underneath unless it grows) and searching I cant see em. There is the Wifi bug, but I never experience it. you literally need to block the back, but it wont just do it anytime, its only when signal is weak for me. Almost like they got the DB vs Bars wrong, (if wifi uses even DB). Other than that. I have nothing wrong with mine.
The g2x man. Started out ok. GO to market place while on wifi, and it kicks you off wifi although still shows the wifi bars. Basically it just switched to data until you toggled back. I hated how the browser barely scrolled, to go down a long page you had to finger fuk the **** out of the screen. The camera was not the best for a 8 mp, and the video was pretty choppy. Then theres the screen bleed that at first didn't bug me, then it just was noticeable. My phone was solid though other than those issues, no reboots, until about 5 weeks later. Then it would happen probably every 2 days.
All in all if anyone is on the fence. Don't be. I was, I wanted to think my G2x was the **** and a software update would make it all better, But why wait? That still may not even fix the issue anyways. If your looking for the better phone by far all around? Then the sensation it is. EASY
Its actually nice to have a nice reliable phone. SENSATION FTMFWWWWWWWWWWWW
SORRY FOR MISSPELLINGS, PUNCTUATION, ETC. Im no college grad
I know a couple ass holes over in the G2X forum who won't appreciate this. As you know, I have both devices as well and prefer the Sensation over the G2X. There are a couple guys over in the G2X forum that will defend that thing until it blows up. They don't want to admit something else is better than the phone there stuck with for a couple years.

Yes, I do know you have both. Actually your Posts helped me decide to get a sensation. Thanks again. Thank god im rid that G2x. It was nice at first. Just got crappy after a bit. Heated up a lot etc. This is great man. Yes, they will defend it to the end. lmfaoooo hell tegra can run on other devices not using Chainfire 3d so meh. No reason to keep a G2x.
Id love to link this in the g2x forum...lol make em mad.

hehe should cause a stir... Here we go. lol
And as JRwin knows I also have the g2x. I havent been able to do a side by side comparison yet because I traded one of my G2x's for the sensation and the other one LG had for repair. It's on the fed ex truck today. I do notice though that the g2x was a lot faster but to be fair it's running vanilla android and it was overclocked. I kind of do miss my G2x though and am looking forward to getting it back from LG today. The only issue I really had with my G2x was screen bleeding. It was acceptable on one (the one I traded) and really bad on the other that I sent to LG for repair. I think they are both great phones(if you get a g2x that doesnt have tons of issues which seems to be rare)
I really do love both phones. The guy from phone dog I think put it best. The G2x is a Ferrari that looks like an ugly car and the sensation is like a BMW 5 series, really nice looking and also a good performer but not as fast as the Ferrari

Maybe once you go back to the G2x you will realize sensation ftw? or maybe thats just your experience. Either way, great post. I also said to a lot of people before that guy said that, " the g2x is a muscle car with no bells and whistles and the sensation is a luxury car with bells and whistles just not as fast as the muscle car". lol
very true?
Also I think the route you go is great. Send in for repair instead of waist another store device and it will probably have a issue as well. My sensation is issue free other than a couple specs of dust so if I ever get bothered or it gets worse. Im doing that. Sending it in. I want this phone. lol

Because the G2x + CM7 >>>>>>>>>> Sensation
Once they ship the G2x with GB stock, the Sensation will be old news.

lol you must have rated that thread a 1 star. lmaoooo
Ive tried cm7 up to build 55 before dumping that DUMP. CM7 was buggy shiznit. Brightness cant even be changed. lol Gps bad, in landscape screen sensitivity crap, and lets not mention the 20% off battery meter even after it was apparently fixed.
GB on the G2x will not be released for a while, and will bring more bugs.
For real, go in landscape, and try and touch the bottom of the bottom letters. lol they dont respond. Something wack with that phone.
I've been using the Verizon Fascinate (Galaxy S) since launch. When the G2x came out, I got that on launch day to check out T-Mobile and a potentially awesome phone. The G2x was okay, but it didn't feel like a full step up from my Galaxy S series phone. Then it got a little buggy and I didn't have confidence in it. I returned it and cancelled at the end of the 14-day window, because I felt the Sensation may give me the step up I was looking for.
I received my Sensation in the mail yesterday. Honestly, I'm ready to tell them to port my number NOW and cancel Verizon, but it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. I'll be patient and see what issues arise over the next few days as I know some issues take a while to surface (based on what I've read). Even so, the Sensation really is an awesome phone. As already written, I wish the speaker was somewhere else like on the G2x, but that's a design flaw most phones seem to have nowadays for some reason.
I also didn't imagine all the issues LG/T-Mobile are having with the G2x. Things have been real shady since the phone was launched. I'm real glad I jumped off that boat when I had the chance. There doesn't need to be any hate between any phone users - even if they use an iPhone. You have every right to love your device and dislike another. That being said, the Sensation definitely feels like a winner... but it is too soon to tell for sure.

Yeah, I have to agree about CM7. I didnt have too many issues with CM7 but being a CM7 user on other devices I could tell for sure CM7 on the GX2 still had a long way to go. I was actually running Faux's rom the last week or so I had it and it seemed the most stable for my daily use than any other G2X GB rom.

Everyone that defends the G2X always does so with caveats. A phone should just work. Every high-end phone's going to have quirks because of all the crap that's crammed in to them. But at a minimum a phone should:
- Only turn off and on when the user wants it to
- Dial and receive calls consistently
- Bluetooth should allow you to store profiles, connect automatically to paired devices, and provide consistent sound output
- Wi-Fi should accurately find locations, connect to them quickly, remember them, and connect again automatically
- Allow you to switch between 2/3/4G and Wi-Fi without issue
- GPS should work consistently
The O2X/G2X have problems in all the above areas (except for the seven seemingly perfect phones all the apologists own). I don't care if a phone has eight-cores clocked at 3.0ghz if it can't do the above well its speed is useless. The O2X/G2X will be remembered much like the Yugo and original Hyundai Excel when all is said and done.
The O2X was released with the same issues the G2X is suffering. LG's had six months to develop fixes. The same people that broke it are the ones trying to fix it. I hope for all its fans sake LG eventually gets it right but based on their track record I'd bet against in Vegas if I could.
Samsung's been monitoring issues with the SGS2 and has so far rolled out three updates to the ROM and four updates to the camera firmware in six weeks time. I'd guess from history HTC will be just as attentitive. Why would/should it take LG six months of customers begging and being inconvenienced to get a fix out? Their competency has to be questioned.

I'm 24hrs in to my Sensation. I have both yes. I got the Sensation because my son has it. It looked like it was worth the try.
I can't say I'm as impressed with the Sensation as you are. I probably won't keep it. But, that does not mean its not a good phone. It's impressive in its own right. Some things are better than the G2x...other things, not so much. I like Sense. I like the Camera speed, I like the stupid locking ring. I like the snappy performance, after setup. And the thing I liked the best, when going to a web page, I could read it right off...without the resizing required in the G2x.
Locked or unlocked bootloaders hold no important place for me. The Chefs on XDA are great. They do wonders with everything. Unlocked bootloaders are their domain. When the Sensation is unlocked...they will jump to it.
To me the Sensation feels off. I was a Nexus One fan and this does not feel like that. Close...but enough difference.
Right now there are enough good things between both phones to make everyone happy. If people feel they cannot wait for the fixes and updates on the G2x, the Sensation is a great choice. I can't blame them for wanting to have a phone that equals most of the expectations they had when they paid good money.
To each their own. I refuse to belittle anyone for 'jumping ship'. Its only natural to defend your own choice. Its also natural to ridicule those that do not agree with your choice. Both phones are good. It's like arguing which playmate of the month is better....Miss/Mr. January or Miss/Mr. February. For me, Don't worry, you be happy....ok?

This is an excellent post. I expect my phone to work like my Desktop or Laptop computer, turn it on and everything works, with the G2x it has been hit and miss!
WOW.. So I sent in my g2x because this one had really bad screen bleeding. The other 2 I had (one mine, one my daughter's) didnt have it nearly as bad as the one.. anyway.. I got it back today. On the repair form it said cause: scratch, action: replaced case (housing)
umm the phone didnt have a single scratch on it(it was brand new!) so they did a repair that didnt need to be done, and my issue still remains. I call them, he gets the repair facility on the line and they tell him screen bleeding is normal with TFT displays. I tell them I have two others and while they have it and it's acceptable, the one I sent them was very severe and protruded to the middle of the screen, not just the corners. Plus if you hold it on an angle you can see a white light bar across the top(which was not present on the other two) He gave me a supervisor who is now trying to get a supervisor from the repair facility to see if there is anything they can do in this case, but she doesnt think there is anything that can be done.. really LG?? really?? First and last LG smartphone I buy..

I feel exactly the same way. The horrifying thing is that Google's deciding between LG and HTC for production of the Nexus 4G this Fall. I hope folks from Google read XDA. The O2X is selling for 20% less than the SGS2, Sensation, and Atrix in Europe. I wonder why?

All good points. It really doesn't matter if someone does or does not have those issues. If you do, its important to you. Period. Only you can judge just how important it is.

I ask this purely out of curiosity, not to be antagonistic. How do you use your phone that any or all of the above would be acceptable? I'm starting to think there are two different groups of phone users here: 1) phone as a workhorse, and 2) phone as a hobby. I consider myself a part of the first group and my G2X became history (at great expense) when it rebooted itself in the middle of a conference call to Asia. As a hobby, I could see where the idiosyncrasies of the G2X would actually make it fun but as a device to depend on, not so much. To each their own I guess.

all that i've seen on these threads are some of the issues with the sensation, i am one who really likes this phone. i guess every phone has its issues and a few bad apples, but this is by far the best i've tested so far. is there anyone else who likes this phone.

OP: I'm glad you like the sensation.
The majority of the new purchaser haters, are kind of 'weak newcomers to the Smartphone ' genre.
They have to appreciate that the majority of these phones have faults. None so bad as the secondary MT4G screen, and even then some, none so bad as the N1 touchscreen, with still patriotic N1 followers such as myself .
Edit: Pardon the noobs.
I love the phone too I switched from evo 3d sprints data is terrible. Yea I had with evo random spurts of 12mbps but majority of the time I got the weak 500kbps on sprints weak 3g. Yes I live in a 4g area but its so spotty. I go 1 mile and have 4g then don't have it then have it and don't have it. When it switches from 4g to 3g the phone lost data for 20 seconds. Not worth ot. With tmob I consistently get 7mbps down and 1.5 up. No loss of data and same buttery smooth ui. Yes buttery smooth without a live wallpaper I have no lag issue in sense 3.0. This phone is sexy and a monster of a phone.

I just got mine over the weekend and love it so far. I came from a nexus one which was one of the best phones I ever had. Seems like it takes forever to charge though. Is that just me?

First one I had had a defect battery, took me a little 8 hours to charge(and about 4 hours with 2 hours display to completely drain). The one I have now charged in 5 hours before the FOTA, and somewhat around 4 hours after the FOTA. I also noticed that the battery of my first phone tended to get extremely hot, while this one gets a little warmer at well, but not at the battery but more at the bottom.
Also noticed change in batterylife, first phone as mentioned couldn't make it through the day, this one managed 20 on first charge-cycle, and now around 25 hours with medium use. (2,5 hours displaytime)
It would be a great phone, if they fixed the known issues. Luckily I don't have the touch screen issue, but I have death grip and lag. Death grip is hardware, and can only be fixed by a new back cover.
i love my phone's guts! and my 2 bff's who touched it loved it instantly and are selling their Desire and Galaxy to get this
Thanks to all for the POSITIVE feedback on the phone and to the OP for starting this. Yeah I guess most of us prefer to point out problems. I've had this phone on the radar for months now (since first announced) and as I'm due for an upgrade at the end of the month, I have been getting very nervous with all of the death grip, dust under screen, unresponsive screen posts etc. Since I definitely don't want to go the alternative duo core plastic route, it is good to see some positive experiences.

you need to put what you read on the forums into perspective...though there are people from all over the world here, we are a very small cross-section of the market - the geeks, the ones who would see a teeny issue and freak the fck out because we want DA BEST!!!!11

This was my experience with Sprint too, and the main reason I didn't go with the Evo 3D. Sprint signal at my house is one bar on a good day, and every Sprint phone I've ever had has had problems just *connecting* to data. I had a Touch Pro 2 before I got my HD2 & I had to toggle airplane mode practically every few hours just to get the damn data to connect. I have full signal & full 4G with T-Mo, no data problems, and my speed is about 6-8mbps on a BAD day(and I've gotten up to 14 at times!).
Yes, this phone has it's share of problems but what phone doesn't? People will ***** about a negative before they gush about a positive, don't think that the Sensation is a POS because some people don't like it(which, IMO, user error/inexperience with smartphones in general is a big cause of). I absolutely love it. Great battery life, great sound, great screen, great speed, FANTASTIC camera, etc. It's a winner in my book.

This is true. I doubt the average consumer is worried about having an AUO or a Sharp panel, haha.
I love this phone! I'm coming from the tp2. I have the creek problem with the bottom right of my screen but honestly it doesnt bother me. I love the keyboard that it comes with and coming from the wonderful hardware keyboard on the tp2 I was a little worried about going all touchscreen but I've had no problems with it! Truely an amazing phone!

Every problem I had with my prior Sensations is gone now except for Sense reloads but I never see that from LauncherPro. Battery life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy on this new one! I go all day without recharging now. I can't even believe it. Used it all day yesterday and still had 37% 20 hours later. Took it off the charger today. Didn't use it for 8 hours and still at 100% even while receiving texts and emails. 13 hours later and some usage photos, G+, etc and 86%. Both other phones would have been dead by now.
I have an AUO panel now and it's great. I prefer the Sharp I had originally because the viewing angles seemed better.
Camera is fantastic with sharpness and saturation turned down.
Only probs I have are with Sense 3. Biggest bother is built in apps2sd feature telling me I dont have space on my sd card if i try to move more than a few at the same time. I don't really care much though. I have 90 something apps installed and 870mb free.
Almost forgot - my speaker is either a different component than the others or something. Maybe the default hardware settings are modified. Sounds much better than on the units I had to return. Don't have to use Volume+ at all.
First time writing here... hi all!
I've been reading these forums for month at least...checking SGS2 and Sensation. With all those troublesome posts I decided to bite the bullet and get myself HTC Sensation. Been using it for 2 days now and everything is working absolutely perfect, smooth and fast! No dust under screen, working flawless while unlocking in every possible situation (on the desk, on the floor, while charging, in my hands), no death grip no matter how hard i try though i can fell some small glitches while typing an sms or a message (maybe it's my sweaty fingers...it's horribly hot here)...but that's about it.
I asked the guy who sold me a phone if people are returning phones with anomalies or bad stuff happening but he answered (like we can believe that ) that they didnt have any of those big issues mentioned here. Guess we are lucky in Croatia
Not sure if phones were manufactured much precisely in the last weeks but this is really a fresh looking phone. Although I must mention there was no WOOOOOW factor as when I bought Desire last year (Maybe cos it was my first Android ).
Nevertheless I'm enjoying the phone and so far I'm glad that I didn't take SGS2 (didn't really fit in my hand, although it's faster and I'm not into gaming).
That's about it...good luck with your phone, it's a nice piece of hardware!
