[KERNEL] Buzz Vega | .31 | CIFS | TUN | EXT4 | SLAB | CFQ | WiFi | NTFS | HOST | 0.3 - Vega Android Development

Here is something iv been working on for a while now. Its a custom kernel for STOCK vega roms. It has a lot that the original kernel doesnt.#
(Not For CyanogenMod)
it has :-
-- EXT4 support
-- TAP/TUN driver module
-- CIFS module
-- SLAB memory management
-- CFS
-- CFQ
-- In line with latest .32.x kernel from kernel .org
I have added a few modifications that should make the vega a little better to use
-- Latest AR6k wifi module
-- Tweaked wifi module to stop the module force unloading, this makes the wifi connect A LOT quicker after sleep. (also allows wifi sleep never with a bit more work)
-- Camera is now controlled via kernel sleep/wake (better support for third party camera apps)
-- Ability to flip orientation ( in src )
-- USB host/slave mode switching without flashing kernel
As always although i test my changes as much as possible, im an not responsible for any bricks / fires / invasions that this causes :-D
[ChangeLog]

Sweet.
You say this isn't for the CM7 rom though right? It will work with stock and MCR and derived roms?
Any how top stuff!

Not for CM7
But MCR + Stock will run fine

Flashed no problems, running stock 1.09 with the market patch. Quadrant returned 2236, not sure if that's good or bad. Seems to run as smoothly as before.
Sent from my Vega using Tapatalk

I can't say for sure yet, may be the placebo effect but it feels a little smoother in use. Not that it was sluggish before mind. 2350~ in Quadrant.

Use Smartbench 2011, that's just been released - it supports multithreading which is needed to benchmark dual-core (or more) processors, properly.
Don't use quadrant anymore, unless it gets updated to support multithreading too.

Hmmm, I can only seem to find smartbench donate version in the market?
Same with quite a few other apps as well, I worked around those by installing them on my galaxy s and transferring to the vega but that isn't ideal. Also in the webbased market I get a 'device not supported' message...
Any clues or ideas? (Market enabler doesn't help either)
*EDIT*
Nevermind, fingerprint was already fine in build.prop (which is why I didn't understand why it wasn't working) but after following the steps from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861044
It's working again

Smartbench 2011 gave a mark of 3113.

Hi Apache,
thanks for your work! What's that thing about the host vs slave mode? Does that relate to USB or wifi?
If it's about USB, do you think it will be possible to switch between host and slave mode without flashing a new kernel?

I was giving the first version a run before and initially it seemed to be smooth but after a day I started getting a lot of application issues where they'd stop responding or take up to a minute to respond. I only had the MoDaCo ROM installed with the 0.1 kernel from here so that left me only two things to check. With the Vega stock ROM I immediately noticed it felt much more responsive. I don't know for sure that it was the kernel but that's why I'm posting. Is there any reason why I might get those issues from the kernel?

No root after flash 0.2 slave. Back to 0.1.

I just finished installing the 0.2 when I saw this new one out, 0.2 was definitely faster, and now 0.3 my vega won't event boot up. Just a plain black screen
I already tried the Fix BSOD from HERE with no success.
Now the only option I see is to re-install 0.9, then Clockwork then restore my previous save.
= /

Humm ill look into the black screen of death stuff I think I know how to fix this.

Hi,
After the backup I reinstall 0.3 and it does work fine BUT the boot is taking a bit longer and the green droid is not showing up, maybe the other time was just that, but it defo looks weird thise first 10 to 15 seconds of black screen with backlight on.
Apart from that, pretty sweet kernel, and stuff is running fast to the point that i double checked on the spare parts if the animtion was off. It was not.
Thanks

Hi,
Tried this new kernel.
Instal via CWM, all was good, but I tried to switch to host mode just to test it.
Powered it, presset back for about 10-15 segs and tablet got stuck in the Booting screen. Tried to restart, power off ,etc.. but no joy, the tablet still stuck in booting screen.

[ROM][32A][32B] 13/09 2.2 - MoDaCo Custom ROM, Hero to Sapphire (optional 4.1.11.1)

READ FIRST - I am no longer updating my ROMs - details.
If you're following the Hero scene, you'll know that I have published a custom ROM based on the 1.73.405.5 shipping ROM. I have a Vodafone Magic (32B) and a T-Mobile G1 kicking around (and HTC want my PR review unit Hero back!), so figured it would be cool to firstly build a really simple way for me to package my ROMs for all 3 devices, and secondly try and produce an update.zip that runs on all 3!
Well, the first step is here, I have the MoDaCo Custom ROM ready to install on your Sapphire 32B device (and a 32A version is available to test).
Things you should know...
- Contents are IDENTICAL to the MoDaCo Custom ROM versions detailed here.
- I have used cyanogen's kernel from 4.0.4 (big respect to cyanogen, he's doing awesome work!)
- Now compcache ready - use this script for a big performance boost!
It has room for improvement, but it runs really sweet already IMHO!
The download link (in update.zip format for flashing in the usual way via recovery image) is at: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-modaco-custom-rom-hero-to-sapphire-32b-port/
I've packaged Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 BFS enabled Kernel and wlan.ko as an update.zip too (see above thread) - nandroid backup before applying!
I've quoted some of my original Hero post here, so you know what you're getting. Enjoy!

Initial Release
me said:
This ROM is based on the Generic 2.73.405.5 release version of the 'new update' (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is now available in 2 versions - 'core' and 'enhanced' by popular request.
Included in both 'core' and 'enhanced' versions
- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
- A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT3 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device. EXT4 is NOT supported.
- Added Jbed Java
- Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!)
- Added Custom Locale for setting non english Locales
- Added android-wifi-tether 1.52 (props to the developer, this is a great app!)
- Added WMSM
- Added busybox 1.15 - tweaked such that 'get information' in Swapper now works as desired
- Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode
- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use
- Added tun.ko file (untested, please report on whether this is useful)
- Added files required for Debian linux
- Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall
- Deleted 'Learn More' application
- Deleted Maps application - install from the Android Market to always stay up to date
- ROM now includes touch focus in Camera app
- ROM now supports shortcuts using BetterCut (and therefore I assume anycut!) in Rosie
- Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit)
- You can now check your MoDaCo Custom ROM (MCR) version from the about menu. It will display MCR2.0 (core) or MCR2.0e (enhanced).
- Fix for HTC Peep on Vodafone now available here!
Included in 'enhanced' version only
- Added Business Card Scanner
- Added 'Plurk' client
- Added WAP browser
- Added Chinese IME
- Restored Maps app (for users who cannot install it from the Market)

Is this ready to go as far as elimintating the blurry screen AND wifi ??
Just asking as the 1.5 and 1.51 both gave me fuzzys, and applying the update eliminated the fuzzys but took away wifi !
Either way. Thank You SOOO much I knew if I waited you'd give us something nice for the holiday !
You think a wipe would be needed going from 1.51 to 2.1?

to avoid any possible issues, I'd suggest a fresh wipe. I didnt add to much after the last rom I flashed so im gonna start over with my sdcard as well
A wipe is always wise, but SHOULDN'T be necessary...
P
Going to try this one now. How is the bluetooth support? Can paired headsets now actually work when calling?
re: support for ANYTHING other than WiFi and Camera (which both work), I don't know!
Let me know stuff that doesn't work, and i'll try to fix it in the next version.
Consider this a starting point...
P
For 32A I recommend the 2.6.29 kernel that redglasses uses on his Hero ROM:
http://www.2shared.com/file/7555649/5881ee4a/myhero-110.html
Might be stuck, d'oh!
So far, did a nandroid, wiped, etc. Updated, rebooted, and after asking for the language and network settings it's sat at a blank screen for some time. Status bar at the top, if left alone and hit the call button the dialer will appear and afterwards you'll see the unlock screen. But it just unlocks back to a blank screen. :/
So far this is the first ROM I've run into that's done this interesting bit. Will maybe reformat SD Card and rewipe, or something.
Nevermind. Rebooted, and it somehow proceeded this time around. Strange, though :/
dont really care for blutooth sound, but will it work for wireless tether ?? thats what I miss from using non hero roms.. having wifi back is also nice !!
Success!
Only noticeable thing is that when you go to far away from the home screen (going into settings, the dialer, etc), and return, it has to reload again for about 10 seconds. But once it's there it's fairly snappy.
Bluetooth pairs and works like it should! I might just hold onto this version of the ROM and tinker with it for a while.

My swap's a bit rediculously larger. It's not that bad a lag, but only really noticeable when going back "home" from an application.
No swap or compcache etc. out of the box yet, let's fathom out the best settings together!

modaco,
I am having all kinds of problems with this rom im still getting a blurry screen, it froze on me 3 times, im stuck in portrait and i keep getting the htc loading screen. I downloaded the file twice to eliminate possiblity of a faulty download as well.
mytouch...amonra 1.2.1, ext3. might have to go back to 1.51 that one worked great
I can confirm that this is running beautifully on my 32A device using redglasses/myhero boot.img and wlan.ko.
Seems to be significantly faster than the 1.73 builds, thank you modaco! Now you just need the 2.84+ build as well

I've got this on my 32B and it really is the fastest "hero" ROM by far. However, I do have a problem, wifi doesn't work. My phone can see networks when scanning but I simply can't get it to connect at all.
Anyone know a solution?

[NIGHTLY][ROM][GRJ22] CyanogenMod 7 for vendor Vega | Android 2.3.4

What are nightly builds?
Nightly builds are automated builds from latest cyanogenmod sources. they are not tested in deepth like RC's or stable versions. In most cases they work without any issues. Thats because all patches get reviewed before they are merged into sources - this way, merging of bad code doesnt happen very often.
Since vega does not have official nightly status yet, i do semi-official builds for you on a semi regular basis. We will get official nightlies, once bluetooth is working - but that is a pretty complicated issue.
Vendor vega
The vendor vega is currently for Advent Vega and PoV Mobii devices. There might be more added later on.
Official nightly mirror
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=vega
Update 31.05.2011
buildbot had a hdd crash, and it can take some more days until nightlies are back online. that long, i might post semi-official nightlies here.

Nightly changelog
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=vega
Nightly install instruction
Coming from another rom?
Do a full wipe in clockwork mod recovery
Install latest nightly build from here
Flash latest gapps from here
reboot
do the first-time-run-setup wizard
if you dont use gsm/phone, reboot to recovery and flash attached vega-phone-removal.zip - saves battery
Upgrading from older nightly?
Just flash latest rom from here in clockworkmod recovery
No need to wipe or flash gapps again, if you done on first install
In rare cases you will encounter bugs, noone else encounters - wipe then and do a fresh install
In at least 99% no wipe needed - there are known people not having wiped for at least half a year
Doing a nandroid backup before upgrading is always a wise idea, in case something goes wrong
if you dont use gsm/phone, flash attached vega-phone-removal.zip - saves battery
reboot to your updated rom and enjoy
Overclocking instructions
use settings->cm settings->preformance->cpu settings to switch frequencies. optionally use setCPU and similar tools.
USB Host mode instruction
to enable usb host mode for keyboard, mouse and other support, power device off. power it back on. once the screen gets lit, press and hold back key until device is booted (you see the homescreen or lockscreen). now you can connect various usb devices.
clockworkmod 3 for vega
with nightly 61 and later, use rom manager to flash latest stable recovery.
List of known bugs
This is a list of cm7 bugs specific to vega - i wont cover cm7 general bugs here, since they are covered on other places. Feel free to discuss them here, thats what this thread is for.
no legacy a2sd yet - working on it
power->reboot->recovery doesnt work and power->reboot->bootloader should be removed

This seems really sweet!
I have some questions:
1) Can the soft buttons be placed further away from each other? Unlike the Nook Color, the Advent Vega has a screen with touch registering issues and it's probably easy to misclick buttons if they're in the normal disposition.
2) What's the "encore" release for?
Danke für die Anstrengung!
Hi i tried to install CM7 before the version b2 and now this one and both stuck at the boot screen with android and the arrow makes circles. Do i miss something? i tried full wipe + format sd but still nothing. I must wait longer than 20 min?
Any suggestions

Yes, I checked the file on my SDcard its the Vega file. I checked as well the build.prop and updater-script, it says definitely Vega.
When I am back home tonight I will reflash stock ROM to recover and retry flashing your ROM.
The Vega rom boots and runs nice. Its very odd having statusbar going from bottom to top but very cool. Nice work. Now back to testing
Just one question, why did you post Nook Colour rom here? Encore is Nook, right?
Maybe we could have multi language, would be nice
Edit. You answered before i posted, im to slow

Does the ROM require EXT2/3/4 on the SD card? I don't have it and this is the only thing I can think about at the moment which might be different.
The ROM comes with its own kernel? I had before installed [KERNEL] Buzz Vega | .32.35 | CIFS | TUN | EXT4 | SLAB | NOOP | WiFi | NTFS | HOST/SLAVE | 0.7, Updated 25/03/11 from buzzing bee. But that should have been overwritten when I flash your ROM.

I came from CorvusVega rom but as long as you wipe everything cache, dalvik, system, data, boot, it shouldnt be a problem. I hate that we cant get in to recovery from off position. If thats possible to do with some hack that should be the next big thing
Hello,
when i try to download your ROM i became a error 404 file not found.
new build, new features, new links - updated first post.
and yes, its buzz kernel - no idea if he made slight modifications, but its the same guy responsible for buzz kernel and vega cm7 target.

Does this means we can do the switch to host mode by the back button trick?
Can anyone try?
Thanks!
Got the ROM finally working, maybe during 1st flash something went wrong.
Its still the old version, new version is still downloading (terrible slow connection here in China).
I installed it on a Viewsonic Viewpad 10s, which is the Vega but with build in 3G card. Unfortunately the card is not working. when I go to the settings -> Wireless & network settings -> Mobile networks, I can enable data communication, but he does not find any provider and the signal in the task bar shows no signal.
In the stock 1.09 ROM its working without any problems.
Will download latest version, test again and report here.

should work. feel free to flash another kernel over this. changes are not kernel related.
current build got some minor bugs which I fix when I get back tonight. mainly the new soft button. check nook color thread for details
Morsed by hitting a plastic pipe with my Desire HD. Excuse typos.
I believe this rom will have the same kernel as Bumble-Bee's CM7 build, so no host and no a2sd!
However I have asked BB to make a new kernel so hopefully he will do this asap.
Great Rom!! Thanks for sharing your work & time with us.
Thinks I like.
CM7 Booting image
CM7 look & tweaks
CM7 Table tweaks, especially bottom bar.
Host mode working. N1!
Don't like:
The bar buttons. Really don't like them.Any change of changing them? I know it's a silly thing but them seem huge to me.
Bugs I found:
Default Keyboard going on and off every time I press a key. Annoying.
Wifi disconnecting randomly and not reconnecting in a while.
Touch Screen not responding until I change orientation. Weird.
Thanks!

We are all diffrent i like the soft buttons. about keyboard going on and off try moving soft buttons to right side and remove quick notification button. That fixed it for me. The buttons can be changed back later than it will work as it should. But i think theres some strange behavior from quick notification button, for example when pressing it it shuts down the screen it dont answer to any touches only on soft buttons, so i have to press the statusbar up and from there press the back button then it wakes up. I dont know, maybe its supposed to be like that.
Very nice ROM. Flashed it last night and seems to work nice. The buttons work great.
However i have a performance issue. A couple of minutes it works very smooth and then it freezes for a while and then continues. Still have the problem after a couple of reboots and after using it for a few hours.
second i installed the gapps that are available for CM7 (the metapackage wich should also work for tegra based devices). I can download apps, but then i cannot see in the market as downloaded.
I came from Modaco r8 and did a full wipe before installing.
Keep up the good work.
EDIT: When the screen freezes only the statusbar and the buttons are responding on touches. The rest of the screen does not respond. The screen will respond again when i change the orientation of the screen (i.e. from landscape to portrait and back to landscape).

PRIME! v1.7
This is a tweaked stock rom for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101
Special thanks to: CaNsA | Hacre | afm | MoDaCo | dc13 | supercurio | Bumble-Bee | RaYmAn | netarchy | Vividboarder | CurtisBeef
This rom is a work in progress and all feedback is appreciated. It is build from the stock rom and has a few tweaks added. As always whenever installing any rom, please take care to follow instructions as no one enjoys seeing their prized possesion not working.
Instructions:
1. Copy ROM to sdcard
2. Verify the MD5 of the zip on the sdcard, DO NOT FLASH IF THIS DOESN'T MATCH THE MD5 UNDER THE DOWNLOAD LINK!
3. Boot into clockworkmod recovery
4. Take a nandroid backup (optional but highly recommended)
5. Install the ROM
6. Reboot and wait... The more apps you have installed the longer the first boot will take... Please not that after the lock screen comes up your TF may be sluggish for a minute while the rom initialises.
7. After a successful restart, you can change the default power mod if desired.
Due to changes made in the launcher for 1.7 you might get a black background after the first boot. The wallpaper picker may also force close. A reboot will sort this problem out.

WMV Patch
I've discovered that the netflix library patch breaks WMV support. Here's a patch to put back the original library and to re-enable wmv support. Also the netflix library seems to have the undesirable effect of process locking the /system folder so it cannot be remounted and as such is always in rw mode. I suspect that this may be a bad thing in the long run for I/O.

I will be updating my PCB Blue theme as soon as I get a chance too!
Once again, Thank you! Can you also release nvflash bins like you did the last time. I am dual-booting with ubuntu and have no CWM partition, so the easiest for me would be to use nvflash. Or how can I tweak this update file, so it doesn't overwrite recovery partition when I will update from booted 1.6 ? Thanks.
Oh and I made a torrent again.

@Roach2010 Thanks dude. I came from the a rooted DE_8.4.4.11 and as I'm a lazy guy, this ROM is exactly what I was looking for.
Installation via CWM worked easy, the first boot as well. So far everything is running as it should be.
Thanks again.
sweeet been waiting for Prime to hit 3.2 .. cant wait to check out the update! thanks for all your hard work.
After flashing over 1.6,the wallpaper was black, so went to reset the wallpaper, and get force close when setting a wallpaper. Setting a live wallpaper works. I did flash the Xoom icons from the 1.7 beta thread, though.

Might be something to do with the changes I made to the Launcher apk. Try rebooting as that has worked for someone else. Might only be a first boot issue.
I've updated the OP to say a reboot is needed after first run.
thanks, reboot did fix it.
Does the rom zipaligno n every boot or just the first one? And do i need to wipe if coming from 1.6v1? And while im asking questions, did the 3.2 update change the sd card handling for the tf or is it the same as it was previously? Im not sure i want to update if it switched to the new read only between the two medias
Flashed over latest Magnus rom with no wipe. So far no issues, Netflix still working.

Yes, No and Sort of
It does zipalign on every boot, but only if an apk needs it.
You don't need to wipe but read the OP about changes to framework.
The update added the MicroSD card showing up in windows but you can copy between medias just fine.
Anybody got the 32GB splash screen?
as always great job... thanks roach you are the man...

uRBANmIX_froyo_2.2.2 rom for huawei u8120,u8110

Hey guys, this is a rom that i have worked on for a couple of days. Its based on cas_xp but with more tweaks and mods.
List of tweaks include:
1)compiled new wifi driver
2)new kernel (2.6.32.9) with overclocking to 768Mhz max with smartass_v2 governor
3)Added symlinks in busybox for terminal commands
4)modified framework for black pop-up menus and darker taskbar
5)created my own urbanmix style eye candy and revamped bootanimation.
6)google goggles now works well.
7)up to date apps
Iam using the old recovery 1.8 because i frequently use update-script instead of updater. Anyways if you get a problem installing just use the oldskool recovery
Working:
======
Everything: Fm_Radio,terminal,adb,usb tethering etc
Bugs:
=====
1)do not reboot phone with wifi on.
update 1 link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?nvcn4xsl3fotkf4
link to kernel source=======>http://www.mediafire.com/?oubwkd0ih6c87f9
update 2
=======
==>recompiled kernel again
==>fixed symlinks in busybox
==>fixed lights
==>added no frills for overclocking settings
==>revamped menus
==>fixed ADB Logcat on phone and pc
notes
1)swipe at the botom of the screen near the dock bar to flip between home screens.
2)do not set overclock after first install.reboot phone and set it then.
3)do not reboot phone with Wifi still on or you will enter into a bootloop.
i am facing the same problem cas_xp had. The driver was meant for eclair but somehow it manages to work.
Only huawei has the recent code and i don't think they have shared it.Stupid company.
4)do not overlock past 672Mhz.if you do expect ANR errors or a system not responding error during reboot.
you can just ignore it.
I added no frills CPU control because of its failsafe feature.
here is the link to update 2
http://www.mediafire.com/?64gmc661s9lx26w
full camera and video recording fix:
Some screen shots
Added a framework fix
update 3
========
This is a minor kernel update
1)added smartassv2 governor
2)fixed usb,adb issues.now you can take a screenshot of your phone using software like (wondershare)
3)removed lag in (no wifi kernel) and significantly reduced stickiness in (wifi kernel)
==>The small lag in video playback is as a result of mmc wireless extensions working around the atheros driver.phones that have Broadcom chips like IDEOS,u8160 don't have these kind of problems.
==> Broadcom chips are much better that is why most manufacturers prefer to use this on all or most phones.HTC and others seem to have adopted this.
==>The only solution i have found is gingerbread that seemed to have addressed these wifi issues
The bootimages are flashable so just put them on your sdcard and just flash them as you see fit.Boot time will not be affected so do not worry about long boot times after installing either kernels.
I haven't upgraded to gingerbread because of the FMRadio which i use alot.
This will be the final update.i am planning to upgrade to a much better phone.
see attachment called kernels.zip extract it and just copy the individual kenels to your phone and flash
here is the link to the kernels ==> http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?t3ri90tx77vetid
system internals
I decided to open up this old phone and see the internals
the images i took are big because i did not want to reduce resolution and remove the minute details like chip ids.

Touch Screen not working on U8110!
Does this ROM has same bugs like all clocked 2.2 - reboots and problems with wifi ?
Please include your kernel source with your post in order to be GPL compliant.
Thread moved to the Android forums.
i have not had any problems with my over clocking i have a u8120. the problem is that i only have one device to test
the only issue with the rom is the video recording because i dont have the android sources. They are like 5-6gig and i have very poor internet
i have uploaded the kernel source so feel free to tweak and even rename it as much as you want.
my (.config) is also located there so try and replace it with yours
Here are the simple steps to compile for beginners.
==>cd into working directory
==>type (export ARCH=arm)
==>open makefile and edit the path to your cross compiler. just search for this string (CROSS_COMPILE ?= ) and replace the path with yours.
==>type (make xconfig)
==>add or remove whatever you want
==>type (make -j2) to take full advantage of core2duo or (make -j4) for those guys with quad cores.
changes done to kernel
=================
1)replaced the whole folder under(drivers/usb) to enable mass storage.psykes or joi's kernel are updated versions for gingerbread thus if you compile and run it, when you enable usb storage, the phone will freeze. backward compatibility was added in gingerbread to fix such issues
2)under (drivers/input/touchscreen) i replaced (msm_touch.c) to improve calibration.
things to do
=========
i will try to fix the sensors.
why you developing 2.2?? 2.3 is better and newer
