Is it an Ace? - HTC Inspire 4G

I know the DHD and the Inspire are very similar, but are they the same phone?, like, are they both an ace?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

They are the same phone with a exception of few features

I should have one in my hands by tomorrow. Anything I can look for to see if it can be rooted like the DHD? Bootloader version or something else?

Bootloader version is irrelevent for this device, but yes, do this:
adb shell cat /proc/emmc
or download an android terminal emulator and run this right from the phone:
cat /proc/emmc
If the partition tables are the same as the Euro DHD, I think we can root these - with a couple of extra steps.
How are you getting one tomorrow?

Moved to general as not android development

Awesome! The one I received came in a retail box, so I don't think anything will change before release. Heading to the IRC room now.

I dont know what an ACE is, but this is essentially the same as the Desire HD and the Thunderbolt right?
Except obviously ATT network not Verizon and has no front facing camera or kickstand. Seems identical spec wise otherwise. Maybe I am wrong.
Still deciding between this and Thunderbolt. Been with att a while but never had a smartphone and getting stuck with a 2gb limit for $25 sounds rough. From what I understand its not a lot.

I have ATT and got in on the unlimited fortunately. 2Gb is a lot, but if you do videos or any downloading you can get over it... I have had months in the 10GB range(bit torrent) LOL. My average usage is prob about 2 gigs though and i'm on my phone all the time.

{Think Tank} Internal SD full use

So after looking around it does appear that the SGS 4G does acctually include 16g internal storage. For what ever reason Samsung or T-mobile thought it would be nice to hide the storage from us and only allow us to access 500mb for apps.
This thread is here to discuss possible ways to open it up or unlock the rest of the storage like the vibrant. After all this phone was supposed to be an upgrade.

Has someone examined the "cracked" phone to confirm that there truly is a 16 GB flash on the board?

I'm looking forward to hearing a good news from you before this coming Sunday. I will return this damn 4g phone this weekend due to lag of internal storage.
I'm just thinking, is it possible to partition the internal storage, which may open up the blockage if in fact the internal storage itself is 16 gb.
Thanks in advance for any efforts.
How cool would it be if xda setup a way to "bounty" devs with donating to an account that they can claim once they make the hack or rom... I think it would be great!

That's what I was thinking. I would assume so. I've never heard of a piece of software that programatically modifies the total amount of available space of a partition. It would be 10x easier to simply partition the drive to the size you desire.
Eagerly awaiting the results!

Edit: I'm in an Atrix, changed everything MOTO or Motorola (manufacturer AND prop fingerprint) to Samsung. I did mine with root explorer and rebooted. (SAVE PROP BEFORE EDITING! or let root explorer do it for you.)

ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=GT-I9100

You have to format it in the phone. It won't have the full 64, but something like 59gb or so.

Thats thanks to the hard drive manufacturers and marketting mis-representing the values.
Hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive sizes using base 10, where 1000 bytes equals one kilobyte. But computers do everything in binary (base 2), where it takes 1024 bytes to store a kilobyte of data. In addition, the computer’s OS uses part of the drive for a directory to keep track of the actual data. As a result, the usable capacity of a hard drive is typically 90 to 93% of the advertised capacity.
If you want to prove this to yourself, take the 64GB as an example. By the hardware maker's definition, one GB = 1000 MB and one MB = 1000 KB and one KB = 1000 bytes. So 64 GB would be 64 x 1000 x 1000 x 1000 bytes (64,000,000,000).
Now, divide 64,000,000,000 by 1,024. Divide the result by 1,024. Divide once more by 1,024 and you will get 59.6gb (rounded).
Awesome. I ordered one and waiting for it to get here.

It has nothing to do with the OS. You will learn that the internal storage being advertised is not the amount of space you will get. This applies to sdcards, hard drives, anything. Even if you read on the OnePlus One box it will explain it to you in small text.
If you want to read more, see http://lifehacker.com/5950506/why-doesnt-my-new-hard-drive-show-the-right-amount-of-space
Hard Drives Are Measured One Way, But Marketed Another
Why Doesn't My New Hard Drive Show the Right Amount of Space?
Here's the bigger reason you have less space: computers are based on binary math, which means storage is counted using base 2—not base 10, which is what you see on the box. So, while we measure a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes, Windows actually refers to a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes. Similarly, a megabyte is actually 1,024 kilobytes, a gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes, and so on. That means the actual amount of space on the drive is going to be lower than what you're told, with the difference being bigger as you get to bigger drives. In general, for each gigabyte reported on the box, you'll have about 70MB less space when you plug it in—which means that your 1TB drive has closer to 900GB as measured by Windows.

Oh your OP post was just a bit misleading/confusing ...... you can minimize the space it uses, a lot of the bloatware Google Apps are in the /system/ partition so it uses a lot of space on apps that you most likely won't even be using like Google Videos, Google Books, etc.

Why is it always like this? Kinda sucks Advertize 64Gb, but only get 54. Where did 10GB go?
I remember when SSD first came out: 80GB only gave you 60GB, but there was one company that actually advertised the correct amount when customers got theirs I forget the company name.

I copy pasted a little snippet of a article on why its like that. But I agree, its crappy that its like that because you don't see the full amount. Yeah you could do the calculations and look it up on actual size but its definitely misleading.

Ram Fix for Note5

Pre-req:
-Root
-some type of editor, if you are using root explorer it will have it own editor
-Decent knowledge of android file system
so in an attempt to fix this multitasking/Ram issue that is plaguing Samsung devices. I have come up with a fix for our devices (with the help of @mikeyinid)
1. open up root explorer
2.Navigate to /system
3.open up build.prop (keep in mind the file permission of the file, after you done editing you will have to change the file permision back rw-r-r)
4. paste in the following line at the bottom of your build.prop
ro.config.fha_enable=true
ro.sys.fw.use_trim_settings=true
ro.sys.fw.empty_app_percent=50
ro.sys.fw.trim_empty_percent=100
ro.sys.fw.trim_cache_percent=100
ro.sys.fw.bservice_enable=true
ro.sys.fw.bservice_limit=5
ro.sys.fw.bservice_age=5000
ro.sys.fw.trim_enable_memory=2147483648
2147483648 is the ammount of ram in bytes. so in this case 2gig
Check for the following
ro.config.dha_cached_max=
ro.config.dha_empty_max=
ro.config.dha_th_rate=
ro.config.dha_lmk_scale=
and delete them. I dont think it would be in there since 5.1.1 utilized FHA instead of DHA
5. edit the following line
dalvik.vm.heapstartsize=8m
dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit=256m

save and make sure to check permission reboot....follow up, let me know.
so far so good for me .
Thank you for this! I'm sure this information will spread fast.
With that said, I'm curious about something. With Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, this highly controversial issue could've been easily prevented with simple build.prop edits. But why didn't they do so? Why do you think they didn't follow through with this before launching the device? Could it be that "further" utilization of memory wouldn't have yielded them the battery life that it comes with, stock? Heck, I dunno. I'm gonna definitely try this though.
Thanks again!

That's exactly why people are saying they are doing it for. For battery life
IMO, the reason Samsung doesn't make these simple changes is because doing so causes the device to slow and become laggy over time. So they're killing apps very aggressively to (in theory) keep the device running smooth. Anyone coming from the S6 will know that even with Samsungs default memory settings the device can still become slow and unuseable over time. So it's a tradeoff. I persoanlly prefer the multi tasking with a reboot or two a day over killing apps and having to reload every time you switch to an app. Also @ OP, the value you set for the trim setting, 2gb or whatever. What did you find that made you come to that value?

Something is wrong if it needs to aggressively kill apps like it does to keep from lagging and needing a reboot. I mean android should be scrapping the earliest used applications from the ram as the ram is needed. Unused ram should have no affect on the system itself. You could have a badly coded app using a portion of ram but still bog the system down.
Having to restart once a day is going backwards to blackberry days when it was damn near in the manual to restart once a day.
I can see the savings in battery in regards to less cycles of the cpu when you aren't starting apps fresh everytime you want to run it

The problem is Samsung is using DHA/FHA rather than Google's LMK. We know very little about the way Samsung is managing memory. From my observations, the device becomes slow/laggy when the swap gets full. Since Samsung is the only one still using swap that is another issue all by itself. Making swap larger than 1.4 GB does seem to extend the length of time it takes for the device to start lagging but it doesn't fix it. Getting rid of swap altogether creates a whole bunch of other issues. It's really been a nightmare trying to figure things out regarding memory management on these arm64 devices.

I was googling around and find that it was implemented in other phone, and one of the number was a weird 10xxxxxxx number, so I google that number and it equates to 1gig so I take it as 1 gig of ram in bytes. Since note5 have 4 gig of ram I decided to put 2gig there, basically I'm shooting in the dark and hope that it works, so far its good, no random closure or reboot.

well there are many reason why they implement this way. I think its because they are trying to maximize battery life, so if a phone screen is off, it means that the user are not using it so it force the app to shut down quicker, making the cpu going into deep sleep quicker therefore save battery life. It also suppose to make the phone seems quicker because its not being bother by unused process and ram.
TBH its a good implementation, regular user wont know a difference. I feel the issue is being pressed because XDA is full of nerds and they want their phone to be equally as good as a regular Ubuntu desktop, why does one need to multitask 10-12 apps on a phone? doesn't make sense to me.

Lets take a step back. Try this line by itself:
Code:
ro.config.fha_enable=true
Also, from a root shell in terminal run:
Code:
cat /proc/meminfo
Paste the output here please.

So are you saying ignore everything in the op and change/input that line instead and share results? Everyone or just the guy you are replying to?

just to me. He wanted to see if those line are actually being utilized.
try mine, I already got one positive result on the international board. its not going to hurt your Note 5 just be smart, make a copy of your build.prop.

Actually, I was saying to try the single line as I'm finding the others aren't necessary. I am also curious how big your swap partition is since you guys have 4gb RAM as opposed to our (S6) 3gb RAM.

I'll give the single line a run first. Once I get home I will take the path from the op.
I used to run these back on my Note 4 but since there was a lot of questions early on in regards to if they were actually benefitting the Tmo variant I kind of let it slip to the way side..

Hmm. It's interesting Samsung went with the same size swap Note5 despite the device having more ram. Also, had you just reboot when you ran that?

this is before the build.prop stuff?
Is anyone seeing improvements?

personally i think that the guys testing this should and it should not be for the guys who dont know they way around the system well enough so they can recover with ease.
