Presenting an UNOFFICIAL build of RisingOS for the Google Pixel 4A 4G [sunfish]
What is RisingOS?
RisingOS is an Open Source Aftermarket Android Operating System that aims to deliver unique and refreshing android experience.
Based on Android 13 | Tiramisu QPR2 | with LineageOS
Screenshots Taken from their GitHub, not of my screen (I personally have yet to flash it!)
What's working?
You tell the rest of us!
Build Variations
This is a Google Apps Build
Installation Notes : FASTBOOT 1 step method, only !!
ROM ZIP should be able to be flashed over any ROM, via the following fastboot method.
However, I *THINK* the last official ROM from google that should of been flashed to the device, is the latest Android 13 firmware.
1. Download the ZIP / ROM & check the MD5
2. reboot into bootloader ( power off device and hold volume down + power, must have unlocked bootloader ) to get into fastboot mode. NOT fastbootD
3. Flash the ROM with the following command ( May remove -w flag to save user data , IF you are updating a previous installation)
risingOS-v1.1-Babylon-202306171229-sunfish-UNOFFICIAL-DiamondJohn-FASTBOOT.zip
NB: to rollback to previous version: fastboot update risingOS-v1.1-Babylon-202306021421-sunfish-CORE-COMMUNITY-updateimages.zip
4. Start First Boot. Maybe give it6 a minute oir three to "settle".
Some Details:

I would not. Its destined to fail.
BUT, you can try, and if it doesn't do so well, restart and flash again with the wipe.

Heads up. I have a "first draft" crDroid build....

DOH! I rebuilt it and flashed it. It booted, with all the goodies, EXCEPT its a de-googled version of crDroid! anyone interested in this build?
I searched while out, and there is magisk module to install google services & apps.

Since crDRoid is in holding, I installed this ROM on my spare phone. I got frustrated that the QS Header image was by a number. Attached is a zip with the images showing their numbers.

CrDroid is fantastic. I have it on a Mi 9se and is by far the best custom rom i've ever used (on any phone)

Which ROM is a matter of preference, and also now your trust in my ability to get it running. I have a de-googled version on offer, and no-one took me up on it.
I did a search today, and I actually found an OFFICIAL crDroid that also didnt have google (ie what no-one wants). The official builder would have inside knowledge and access to crDroid devs. So its not going to be simple, and their docs for building aren't as good as others.
However, I would be running crDroid, if/when I have a choice. I am running A11 so A13 is overdue.

OT
ummmm... finished a new crDroid build a few minutes ago, and its just now downloading all updated apps from the Playstore! ie IT NOW HAS GOOGLE SERVICES! I was typing in my last response AS it was booting.
I'll start a new thread maybe tomorrow. Right now, I've got a new ROM to play with...

And after using it, I changed the title of this thread.
Dont get me wrong, this ROM is still good. Its a personal preference.

Hello, thank you and teams for big efforts.
Does this ROM file have persist.img in it? Because i need this in order to fix my Pixel 4a, resulted "No valid slot to boot." after i removed persist.img.
For your support, thanks.

Sorry, I dont understand what you are talking about. Dont know all the partitions offhand.
However, what I have created / provided is a FASTBOOT flash image, which has most if not all partitions in it. However, when I open the zip, I dont see anything named "persist". Have you tried flashing stock top maybe bring it back to life? I dont see anything named "persist" in stock either.

@GreatUserName I just had a look, and inside a zip inside the stock firmware lies a fastboot image like I provide, and it too has no partition named persist. But it also has the bootloader and radio

can somebody give me a copy of the app APK for ExactCalculator?
And what is the name of the default music player?

Try to flash the rom with ADB, but still impossible to install... ADB failed partition not found...

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. LineageOS does still include various proprietary hardware-specific code.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.
Informations :
This ROM uses source built kernel, kernel modules, boot kernel modules (vendor_boot) and vendor image.
This ROM bundles the latest firmware so you don't have to worry about updating firmware.
To use the eSIM you need to install GApps
Instructions :
Follow https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/redfin/install for how to install
Follow https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/redfin/upgrade for how to upgrade from LineageOS 18
Downloads :
Official builds
Optional GApps: MindTheGapps
Reporting Bugs
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/* (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved.

Great work @aleasto!
Can't wait to try this Rom, I was waiting for it.
Just a quick question: maybe I'm just a noob, but how can I install the zip without a dedicated recovery? I mean, I'm stuck at point 4 in your instructions.
Thanks a lot!

You can't.
Where exactly are you stuck? To reboot into recovery simply select "Recovery Mode" from the bootloader screen.
The previous steps installed Lineage Recovery.

Edit: works again
got a "failed to read" error when flshing zip
Step 1/2 (47%)
after downloading the zip again the same error appeared but the third time it worked, !
the process in cmd hangs but the ROM is flashed. just wait until it's done.

I decided that given the issues with flashing system addons, until a solution is found by our team i'll also be sharing builds with minimal gapps included. You can already find one in the drive folder.
ROM booted with me and magisk gapps working fine.
now everything is fine, everything you need is in the firmware, many thanks to the author for the work
Hey everyone, I wanna give an update on my experience with this Rom!
First of all: great job @aleasto!
This Lineage is definitely smoother than stock rom. Seriously, my Pixel 5 feels like a true flagship now, finally the 765 is working like a charm.
_
Now, some little features I do really enjoy:
- percentage only in the status bar (no battery icon needed)
- you can hide the navigation bar (the one at the bottom of the screen) but use the phone as if it was visible
- FINALLY no google assistant swipe-up from the bottom of the screen!
There are also some little bugs, nothing serious:
- with google camera, changing from portrait mode to standard mode (and viceversa) usually slows down a little bit. Maybe it's just my gcam version.
- vocal messages: recording vocal audio messages often does not work. The recording is muted, I haven't figure out how am I able to fix it, but sometimes I am able to do it.
_
A quick guide on how to install this ROM (for lineage os newbies like me):
Unlock the bootloader (here you can read how)
Download all the files from the first post and put them in the "platform tools" folder
Put the Pixel 5 in fastboot mode and connect it to the computer
Open a prompt window in the platform tools folder
Digit these commands:
- fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img
- fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
Now you have to reboot into the recovery from the fastboot menu, just use the volume buttons to search the recovery option and select it with the power button.
You will enter the Lineage Recovery, then select "apply update" -> "apply from ADB"
Go back to your cmd window on your computer and write:
"ADB sideload xxxxxxxxx.zip" where the "x part" is the name of the ROM zip file (remember to put .zip at the end of the command)
Just wait until the end of the installation (around 5-8 minutes) and then reboot the phone from Lineage OS recovery.
Enjoy!
Personally I wasn't able to install magisk correctly, if anyone got it working just let me know!
Again, thanks Ale for the awesome rom, can't wait to see it becoming official!
Percent only

there was a problem with the microphone, they didn't hear me, but earlier on the proton firmware it was like that too, the solution: to flash another core. Here I also decided to replace the kernel

That's a pity. I came from Galaxy S8 to Pixel 5 because I LineageOS on S8 had the same problem and I felt that switching to Pixel 5 I would be less likely to encounter problems with basic phone functions. The progress so far is incredible at such an early stage so hopefully this microphone issue can be ironed out eventually.

No command - it's stock recovery. Did you flash correctly?
I can't share vendor_boot.img every build because aosp doesn't build it separately.
I suggest to extract it with payload dumper for the first build.

Check your platform tools version. It needs to be at least v32 I believe. Newest is 33 something.

I have been able to boot it by using recovery of another rom, and its working great.
Recovery still though seems a problem, as after booting the rom when I booted to recovery there is no recovery found.

I used NitrogenOS long ago and I recall it being my favorite OS.
Odd question... I've been running this for a week now and love how it's running. That being said I'm encountering something with Snapchat that I can't figure out and I'm wondering if it's related to unlocked bootloader/safetynet. For the past few days every time I send a text message in Snapchat it disappears for a while, then several minutes later it sends. I've tried logging out and back in, clearing data and cache for the app, and completely reinstalling. Hell I even made a whole new account and it's still doing it. I can't figure out what would he causing it and I'm not even sure the custom ROM could be causing it but I'm at a loss. Anyone else experience this?

It might work, but stick with OP steps, those 110% WORK, but up to you. I gave up on TWRP when A/B partitions came out and chose to just stick with and use stock ROM recovery. That will always work, TWRP, maybe not so much, IDK, it might, but you wont get the same type of help if you choose your own path (TWRP).
Also, just an FYI on nomenclature, this isn't firmware, but ROM, firmware contains all partitions, drivers, ETC., this is just the OS (ROM).

Interesting, this is new to me (unable to scan face for a PX4), what type of pixel 4 XL is it then? Or are there hardware issues I missed? I cant comment on this fix (I am not the dev here) but I might be able to help you once I know the scope of work.
@putzwon, I have used this OS (ROM) since Friday, and thoroughly testing EVERYTHING! WOW, I am literally floored at how well EVERYTHING works!!
I have NO ISSUES, NO BUGS, NO SHOWSTOPPERS, nada. Even Now Playing works, I am floored by all of this! It is amazing, and I rarely say that about a ROM (with no bugs also being reported - at the same time), and as I noted earlier, in the past, cRdroid wasn't great for me (random bugs, and/or missing features I rely on). NOT this version, this version IS GREAT FOR ME, I have EVERY SINGLE possible tweak I want/need/use, PLUS functional services / RIL (Radio Interface Layer) I.E. CALLs/TXT/MMS, PLUS no bugs, or FCs, or anything that would keep me away!
Normally, I use LOS, and LOS only (while testing all other ROMs for users and myself), but always landing back with LOS, not this time! I am STICKING WITH cRdroid for the foreseeable future, it is my DailyDriver and will remain so until something changes (but doubtful at this point)!! I have everything I need, baked right into the ROM, so I don't even need my LSPosed modules (other than SafetyNetFix once ROOT'ng)!
EXTREMELY WELL DONE and THANK YOU FOR THIS ROM!!!! For the rest of XDA users, this ROM WORKS! It works EXTREMELY WELL, is bug-free (from my extensive testing and standpoint). I haven't found any bugs yet (not a single one)!

Yes, this is a type of 4XL, it's cheaper to 20% .
Installed it yesterday and almost everything is working perfectly. The only feature that seems to be missing Soli which is a shame since it's a fun novelty.
best rom ever love you
thaaanks
Thanks for the rom. Perhaps anyone could advice me if there is an easy switch from LOS 20 to this rom? If possible I'd like to avoid installing all apps again ... including the "security" features for a couple of sensitiv apps like bank apps.
Perhaps someone knows if restoring a swiftbackup would work.
Thanks

it is easy
i do it everytime I flash a custom rom
you need to root your phone using magisk
then instal
Migrate - ROM backup 5.0.1from play store
open it and take a full backup of your installed apps
copie this backup to your laptop
and after flashing this perfect rom
copie the backup from the laptop to the phone
and root the phone again
and instal
Migrate flasherfrom play store
open it
and flash the file you backed up
this way you will have allll your apps including your banking apps with all your data
you will not have to instal anything twise...
good luck
it is easy
don't worry..

Should I flash Bliss-v16.3-sunfish-OFFICIAL-gapps-Fastboot-20230113.zip by fastboot update -w zipname?
OR Bliss-v16.3-sunfish-OFFICIAL-gapps-20230114.zip???

Hello,
Wow, this is weird. This phone has no mods, no root, nothing. It used to work on stock Google firmware the day before I install it. That's why I thought it was a bug... Well, my daughter's got all her apps installed now. So she'll leave with it.
Cheers,
Sébastien.

First post, Downloads - BlissRoms Recovery Boot Image
Is that the recovery image or kernel?
I am currently running Bliss Android 11 (BlissRoms 14.7). If I go into Settings>System>Bliss Updater I can download it but not install it from the UI. The OP implies I can dirty flash v16.3 (A13) over v14.7 (A11).
I'm not planning to do it soon, but just want to confirm I can flash 16.3 over 14.7?
Thank you BlissROM v16.4 for pixel4a released today.
I updated from v16.3 by Dirty Flash method.
(I got boot.img file from payload.bin by Payload Dumper)
The most notable changes are the following points, and
Play Integrity API Checker/YASNAC check passed without Magisk and USNF module.
"Updated PixelPropsUtils to make SafetyNet working again"
I like New QS Panel Styles(Icon shape, Transparency).

Am I correct to assume "BlissRoms Factory zip" is the "Bliss-v16.3-sunfish-OFFICIAL-gapps-Fastboot-20230113.zip" image? and then use the OTA to update to 16.4?

Not recommended to take that huge leap without wiping data. you might encounter terrible bugs since you are upgrading over 2 generation worth of Android Upgrade

FYI I am attempting building the ROM from source. I have a really weird thing where the prebuilt webview.apk is only 134 bytes from a repo sync; every time. I checked the google source targeted by the manifest, and manually downloaded that at around 55MB (and placed it in the local source), but then it fails at 80%. I have previously been using the Telegram Build Bliss channel, but now its at a point I think I will need to document the error more and explain how the repo sync fails for webview.apk. I am hoping that any repo sync fix, also fixes the other fail. I think I got a fail at around 90%, its not always the same when it fails.
However, by chance I have developed a pretty bad cold/flu that worsened today and it has totally wiped me out, so building may be pushed aside. I'm pretty sure its not COVID (I think I have a spare RAT test lying around somewhere), no cough, my lungs feel fine and I got 100% oxygen saturation earlier today. But it has really developed quickly later in the day and wiped me out, whatever it is

Please make sure your device is on latest official April firmware. ( Bootloader, radio etc... ) And then make sure your using the 5/2 GAPPS build.
Also has been confirmed that majority of custom kernels don't work and if you do find one that boots it , theirs still a possibility it'll give issues.
This is the best custom ROM I've tried so far, great performance, battery life, and plenty of customisations, congratulations dev!! Thanks.
My only problem is Android auto is not working and Bluetooth sometimes fails.
Is anyone having the same problem?
Currently only Core with Core GAPPS

What about integrating the Data Restore Tool app to restore apps and data from google account?
I tried to fastboot update from April firmware without wiping data => it bootloops.
I made factory reset. SetupWizard crashes when touching button on restore page (probably because no Data Restore Tool found).
I can install Data Restore Tool from Google Play. How to run SetupWizard again?
System partition doesn't have enough space to place the Data Restore Tool in it manually and wipe data again. Running using Activity Launcher allows me even to select apps to restore, but nothing happens then, aclivity closes.
I'd like to try this soon. Would be first time for me, but will read myself through before i begin anyway.
Just a question: is it possible to disable the google search bar on home screen in rising launcher? I currently use the "nova launcher" for this feature. But apart from that, in free version it is not as cool as i was hoping for.

For 5/02 build and lower it's required too have at least April's firmware. And I'm unsure why you're bootlooping as each build is tested by me. But each build I use the flag
fastboot -w update
Click to collapse
Because i do clean flashes for each build. To ensure that when Im booting it that it is a clean install.. it's mentioned that you can remove the -w flag but if issues arise that I can't help unless I'm able to replicate the issue or a log cat and or kernel log.
RisingOS v1.1 Babylon has been released with Mays security patches. Enjoy.
thank you so much for this genius rom for bluejay - have it on my pixel now + it looks fn great!
tip: better extract with 7zip in windows, cause windows explorer doesn't recognize the way to extract these zips... . always extracts to another zip ( 10 times) . in windows 11 insider preview build.

Hi, how is the battery life of the Rom compared to the stock os? improved or the same, and does it have VoLTE enabled?

Asking about battery compared to stock is all user dependent , and have gotten no feedback from telegram group about a battery drain so it should be fine and yes we have Vo5g so I'd imagine we support VoLTE
