I am sorry if this topic previously has been discussed, butI have googled it for some time and haven't found any solutions.
I need to be abla to beam music from one android phone to another, i.e. use the phone as media renderer. I have two old android phones which I use only for sound in my bed room and living room. I would therefore want a way to control these phones from my primary phones. There are some ways to use them as media servera, etc., but I cant't the solution.
So, please help wouldn't this be possible? I guess a lot of people out there have old phones, which could be awesome to control from remote.

Could plug it to external speakers and beam music to it from my Desire.
Result : cheap wireless speakers system!
I'm sure that someone must have tried this before.

Thanks for your answer, but Skifta works exactly as other Android streaming apps - the music on the tv/computer can be controlled, not the other way around. I want to remote control the music on android from remote (e.g. from another android device).
Have you tried twonkey media?
It should do the trick... need to install it on both phones, then set one up as the library and the other as the output.
No, I have already tried Twonky player, but it does not allow me to beam the music from on android phone to another. If have two phones, A and B, I want to be able to control the music player on B, which is connected to the hifi in the livingroom from phone A, which is in the kitchen. Twonky, and other options allows me to stream music from phone B to A, but I want to control the B player, which I am nowhere close to. Does that make sense? It has to work like Gmote, where it is possible to control music from the phone on the computer, but here I want to control the music on B instead of a computer.
Ah, I see. You have a phone connected to your stereo playing music. You want to be able to control that phone with another one wirelessly.
I think you are SOL... I haven't heard of anything like that. You may be able to cobble something together with Tasker and gtalk/sms messages (ie. send a message like "next song" to the other phone that Tasker picks up and performs the action).
I've been looking for this as well to repurpose my HTC Hero and have finally found it!
An app called ArcMC Media Server and Player (market link) can turn any phone into a DLNA receiver. You can then use your other phone as the server with Twonky or similar. I almost made an additional hardware purchase for this but now my old phone does it just as well.
The app looks new which might explain why no one has found it and the bad review average so far. Also it requires 2.2 which may be a limitation for some. Installing a custom rom can fix that though.
edit: sorry, I may be confused. I want my new phone "play to" my old phone. For that my old phone needed to be a receiver, which Twonky does not do. The media lives on and is controlled by my new phone, I just use my old phone to receive it and output it to the speakers.

Here's one for ya... i went from an iphone 4 to an Atrix (woo hoo!) and would like to control my iphone music from my android. it is jail broken.
I know it's a long shot but figure'd it's the XDA forum, ya never know.
I can push YouTube videos from a phone that has Twonky Beam installed to a phone with ArkMC installed. I tried it with Samsung Infuse and Samsung Captivate.

Of the apps mentioned so far in this thread, BubbleUPNP is the one I found the most stable and most useful.
I'm using it to stream from my PC, from foobar with the uPNP plugin. Winamp is my preferred music player but foobar just works so smoothly as a control point for uPNP that there's not even a choice!

ArkMC now supports YouTube as well. It's possible to subscribe for YT channels and share them to DLNA/UPnP device in local network.
Android Renderer
+1 for Arkmc . Using it for almost 1 year as a renderer on my old HTC.
I am tired of many of iOS’s issues (lack of flexibility, screensize) and want to get the new Nexus. However, there are many Key features of iOS that I use extensively. I’m looking for some informative insight on Android’s offering.
1.***** Airplay – wireless music/youtube w/e directly from my iPhone. I have no idea what android have in this department
2.***** Music – I use a Mac and I would like to keep itunes. Is there a easy way to sync? Especially wirelessly
3.***** Facetime – is there an equally simple solution? My long D gf uses iOS, so im looking for cross platform here.
4.***** Facebook – iOS facebook sucks, how far along is android now, app, integration etc?
5.***** Notes – syncs automatically with my Mac, I can access it offline after it synced. I tried evernote before but I don’t think it works offline.
Any exclusive ICS features that are used extensively?

2. There are a few programs that manage sync with iTunes on a mac. Doubletwist (the paid version features wireless sync) might be a good solution for this: http://doubletwist.com/

4. Well facebook for Android also sucks :/ I'd go with the mobile website instead.
5. I'd say evernote is the way to go. It also works offline, at least on mobile.

Apple has a way of trapping you in their exclusive ecosystem of software and accessories. You can find alternative, open solutions, but you may have to purchase new accessories.
If I understand correctly, Airplay is an Apple proprietary solution. I know that DoubleTwist has an Airplay plugin, but I would imagine it only supports playing back audio, not YouTube, etc.
DLNA is the alternative, but is standardized and widely supported.

1 Airplay....There are applications in the Android Market that can handle this.
2 Music-Doubletwist and Airsync - both provided by the same company. They also sync with iTunes.
3 Factime - I use Gtalk application It works on WiFI as well as 3G/4G and hence you can always be in touch with your gf....lol
4 Notes- Gdocs...it syncs with Google and also Google DOcs which not only syncs your notes but all your docs.
5 Google music is very good since it stores all your music in cloud and also gives you flexibility to download, transfer or play from the cloud while on the move.

2. You can use itunes to organise your music and just drag and drip songs onto your sd card.
3. I use the Skype app for video calls
4. The Facebook app is terrible for Android but is integrated well into the os with full contact sync and sharing photos to facebook straight from the app.
5. There are so many great note taking apps on the Android Market there will definately be something you will like
The great thing about Android is that if you don't like the stock Android apps you can always find better alternatives to them on the market.
I recently subscribed to GMusic all access, and I'm liking the service very much. I work out 4-5x week for 2h, and I need music. I've been using my Nexus 4 but it's too big and bulky and gets in the way. An armband helps, but I'd like to have a dedicated music playing device. It doesn't help that I've already smashed the screen on my N4 once while running with it (something I don't do anymore, and I don't run all that often, but it'd be nice to have something I can run with and won't fall/isn't worth $400). I found an old iPod Nano (6th gen I think) that would work great but there's no way to reverse sync it with GMusic (I manage my playlists, etc. on GMusic, not iTunes) and it won't get me any of my All Access content.
My conclusion is sell the iPod for whatever I can get (it's like new, so I don't think $60-80 is unreasonable) and get a cheap android phone to use as a dedicated GMusic streaming device. I'm thinking requirements are:
ICS+ (to be able to run current and future GMusic apps)
<4" screen. Shouldn't be too hard seeing as that keeping price low is a priority
WiFi (to stream)
Headphone out and half decent sound quality (i.e. not garbage sound, I'm no audiophile)
Custom ROMs would be nice, but not a requirement at all
I'm open to suggestions, including china phones and used phones (going off average market price)

I've an old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) kicking around.
I'm wanting to give this device a new purpose: Become the office music controller. (yes I know it's a BIG device)
I have a premium spotify account, and I'm looking to run this from the device to the bluetooth speakers in the office. I understand i could just use the app. This being said, I want to remove all other apps and functionality other than to trawl spotify and stream the music to the speakers.
I've thought of XBMC, but i'm unsure how this would work for this purpose. I don't have the physical storage.
Any help here in how to progress or any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old iPhone 4 I use at the gym to listen to music over wifi. As it's so old it won't let me run Apple music, Spotify or Deezer now on the OS.
I'm after an Android device for cheap just for this purpose.
Just needs to have wifi a screen preferably small screen and run latest Android so i can install any music stream service on it. Around £30-£40 because It's going in the gym with me don't want to worry about breaking it. Hence why i don't take my Honor 7 in with me.
Any recommendations?
