Question Does the unlocked on TMOB show 5G UC icon? - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Just made the switch from s21 ultra. I'm getting 5G but it doesn't say 5G UC on my s22 ultra. I'm on TMOB on the unlocked version. Anyone else with same setup that does say 5G UC?

I live in a fringe area from the closest 5G UC area but do pick it up from time to time. I have the TMO model and on the TMO firmware I see it and it connects to n41. But when testing out the U1 firmware (same as what your running) I cannot get it to connect to n41 and no 5G UC icon.

no UC designation, just 5G Does the S21 show 5g UC?

I have the unlocked version. I'm trying to understand if anyone sees 5G UC on it.

If you flash the tmo firmware you'll see the 5G UC icon, but also you'll have tmo bloat.

I'm on unlocked version using TMo and I only see cellular bars, no 5G icon.

I experienced 5GUC for the first time today and had to look it up to see what it was. Pretty fascinating stuff. Interestingly enough, the IPhone 13 Max in my proximity also has 5GUC.

So it seems that U1 does get 5G UC even if it only shows 5G. It seems that only the T-Mobile version will display 5GUC but I did a comparison at a T-Mobile store and consistently got the same or better speed even though my device only displayed 5G. I was getting over 500 MB speed which is definitely UC.

Modem on s22u is much better than fold3 on TMO. All my signal issues are gone on the s22U.

say, learning as fast as I can, been a number of years since flashing phones/tablets.
We have 2 new unlocked s22u from samsung, going to use them on t-mobile.
the thought is to head to the corp store, for sims and to get them working. our current s9 are still with sprint sims.
Also, do I need to flash these to get 5g, wifi calling, or things like that working ?? or just for the proper 5g icons??
I see U1 or mentions of it. does flashing t-mobile get me basicaly a branded unlocked phone ??
the thought unlocked was more to head to spectrum mobile, or another provider, not so much anti bloat. if that makes sense.
sorry to tack extras on to this thread, and thanks very much for your time

I had the Pixel 6 pro and I`m on Tmobile and the 6 pro would show 5GUC and I was like what is that, and had to look it up, but with my S22U through the same area it only shows 5G

Just put your TMO sim in (when you get it), the phone will say that the network provider has changed and will reboot, and everything will just work...

It doesn't shows the icon but gets connected to uc band and has no difference in download speed.

For your needs since you have the unlocked U1 versions, all you need is to pop on the sim cards and you'll get all the features you mentioned above. Your phone will stay unlocked so once you settle in you can move your primary sim to the e-sim slot and use the other physical sim with another carrier for a secondary line when you travel or for business/ other needs..

I am having the same issue as the OP. Had S21 Samsung unlocked from Samsung on Tmobile and showed 5G UC. My S22 ultra unlocked from Samsung only shows 5G. I am getting less speed. On S21 speeds fluctuate between 200-300 down and 90 up. On S22 Ultra 5G only shows 5G icon getting 100-200 down and approximately 30 up.
OP did you flash Tmobile firmware and did it fix anything? I have been back and forth with Tmobile and the rep sent a ticket to engineering saying they have seen some reports of this but Tmobile and Samsung won't officially confirm it and there is an update coming starting today through the next few days **that they claim will fix this.

Yes that is correct, it does get 5G UC but on stock unlocked you only see 5G, I use LTE discovery and I can see when it locks into to UC

Was that on a U or U1?

The U1 ROM does not show UC for T-Mobile or UW for Verizon yet. It connects to n41 or n77/mmWave fine, and the display issue will probably be fixed in an update.
You can confirm your UCness via *#0011# (and I wanted a reason to use the pen lol):

Verizon 5g nationwide

Verizon just announced there low band 5G network to compete with at&t and tmobile. Will our ultra 20 support this network?
Yes. You will need a software update from Verizon to enable N5.
Verizon N20U variants already got the update for activating low-band 5G.
The unlocked variants are waiting for Samsung to release the update. Shouldn't be too long though.

I hope so. When called Samsung yesterday I got the huh? response. But I didn't go up the support tiers to get someone who knew what I was talking about. Does the unlocked Note20 Ultra 5G out of the box work if you happen to be in one of the select places that has UWB or does that require an update too.

If you have a 5G SIM card, then yes. When I used my older Verizon SIM card it wouldn't connect to 5G UWB, but once I picked up a new one from a Verizon store (that does say 5G on it), it started working on my unlocked Note20 Ultra. Incredibly fast when you have a signal...

Verizon has a list of compatible 5G phones that will work on Nationwide 5g. On their site it says it could take weeks to a couple months to update these devices. I have a couple unlocked phones. Looks like the OnePlus 8 pro is excluded. That's messed up! Same chip set as the S20 phones. Guess I'll call and try to get a for sure answer.
I have an unlocked note 20 ultra. And am supposed to be living in an area of nationwide 5g. I'm not getting it. So I called Verizon, and tried to see if there was something that needed to change for me to get it. At 1st I was told it wasn't in my area. And then I was told I needed to wait for an update for it to happen. I'm totally confused

There will be an update pushed to your phone that will allow you to connect to Verizon's nationwide 5g. The unlock model will just take a little longer to get the update versus the Verizon model.

The only question/worry I have, is, does this require a specific sim card? Such as a 5g sim card? Or does any newer sim card work?

Yes, you need to get a Verizon 5g sim card. I just called Verizon and asked for one and they sent it to me for free.
I ordered one and am waiting for it to arrive.

I'm going to Verizon to see if I can get my 4G sim from my old Note 8 reactivated. There is 5G in this area but the signal where I'm at is marginal. It's strong enough to keep my phone from falling back to 4G but weak enough to be essentially useless. 4G was never that great around here either, but it's better than the 5G. And Verizon disabled the ability to just shut 5G off.

Just curious if the app called Samsung band selection would help? What I did was lock the phone to bands 2,4,5,13,66 and it would stay on 4glte+ vs the 5g.
Note 20 Ultra 5G Verizon UltraWide and NationWide 5G
It's November 29. 2020. Was there an update for the Unlocked Note 20 Ultra 5G to use either the UW or Nationwide 5G band using Verizon as the carrier?
Does Samsung's unlocked Note 20 Ultra 5G cover both Verizon's 5G UW and Nationwide signal.
Thank you so much.
History: I bought the Note 10 Plus 5G from Verizon about a year ago with the promise (I know I know) of their 5G reaching my San Diego off-skirt area within the year. Well, come to find out that my Note 10 Plus UW 5G isn't supported by their alternate 5G Nationwide. Nationwide IS in my area whereas the UW is not. So, I bought out my phone contract to get the new 5G Nationwide support, which apparently the Note 20 Ultra 5G has. I bought this from Verizon yesterday and have 14 days to decide if that was the right move. In the meantime, Samsung has a like deal with a few extras that I might want to cancel the Verizon Note 20 Ultra 5G and get Samsung's Unlocked variant. I'm wondering if the Samsung Unlocked variant will support BOTH Verizon 5G networks, being UW and Nationwide.
Have a great day!

The UW 5g is already supported on the unlocked model. As of now the unlocked does not support the nation wide 5g but in the s20 forums they said that one of the betas enabled the nation wide 5g for them. So I'm sure we will get it with the next big update.
I've tried both the Verizon firmware and the unlocked firmware and i prefer the unlocked way more. If you can return it and get the extra stuff then i would do it.
Or if you want the 5g now then still get the unlocked note 20 but then flash the Verizon firmware into it.
But the best thing about the unlocked firmware is caller id on both calls and text for free. And nation wide 5g is not faster at this time so i can happily wait.

Question AT&T 5g and unlocked Z flip 3 5g

Has anyone here ordered an unlocked Z flip 3 from 5g directly from Samsung and currently using it on AT&T in the US? I am trying to confirm that the phone will be able to access AT&T's 5g network. I've seen conflicting info out there. I don't want to buy it if it won't get 5g.
Works fine on my wifes flip 3, and also for the record on my fold 3.

Hopefully your 5g is better than Verizon's. I get significantly better speeds on 4g. The most I've seen on a 5g speed test (and ive done many from many locations) is 7Mbps and I'm in an excellent coverage area for Verizon... although when it comes to 5g you can't tell where coverage is because the map combines it with 4g.
Verizon also combines (I'm probably saying this wrong) multiple 4g data streams together and calls it 5g and from my experience it's terrible.
I actually asked Verizon if there was a sim card I could get that would just allow for 4g since there is no disable 5g setting on the Verizon version but there is on every other carrier...uhg.
Anyways they said yes, I got 2 new sims and... I still saw 5g and I still have the wonderful battery drain from the phone constantly trying to get a 5g signal. Terrible.
I have this exact same setup and I don't have 5g either, logo doesn't show up or anything. I went to the att store and asked about a sim card and they said that shouldn't matter, I had them look up my plan and apparently I don't have a 5g plan (I'm using a line on my dad's plan). It would be nice, but I've accepted it for now. I've gotten pretty decent battery life from the start and I think it might be because I don't use 5g
I have the Samsung unlocked model and am with At&t. When am out and about at the top I do see it says 5G but in Miami we have no 5G enable yet but it does seem like it would get 5G once that enable. Once in a while i do loose that 5G signal and it drops down to LTE but for like a few seconds only than it jumps back to the 5G signal.

Question 5GUC on unlocked on T-Mo?

Same here, I have both phones, no 5GUC displaying on the S22 Ultra's notification bar.
There are a couple of other threads on this. Verdict generally is that we get 5GUC but the ROM doesn't have the ability to display the 'UC' moniker.

Yup, I learned long ago that the carriers/mfg can put pretty much anything in the status bar & no guarantees that it reflects what is actually going on. (see AT&T's 5Ge.....SMH....)
My speeds are fine by any name or status bar icon.
I know something different with TMobile 5G on my U.S. Unlocked version even though I can't see UC either.
Before on my S20 Ultra I got 120 mbps on T-Mobile and now it's 345 mbps which is even faster than my 5G WiFi which is only 313 mbps. So with the S22 I am getting 225 mbps faster than my old Ultra.
I used Speed Test to get the results above. If both your phones are showing similar speeds who cares if UC shows up it don't matter. It's just 2 pretty letters that don't mean jack ****.
If you dial *#0011# on the dialer and go to service mode then sim1 or 2 (whichever you're using) under NR_BAND if you picking up n41 then you're on 5G UC
I get 5g uc in certain area of maine

Question [Solved] Unlock 5G on Korean model SM-S908N in UK

Hello everyone, so I got the Korean version of S22 Ultra, and I cannot enable 5G here in the UK, but the N78 band is supported by the Korean version S22 Ultra, and all the carriers in the UK are using N78 (I have tried both O2 and Three, and I cannot enable 5G on either of them).
I then saw this post [Philippines]SM-N9860 TGY/BRI/CHC Snapdragon Users|5G Reception Fix, and I've tried to enter the secret code *#0808#, but the phone does not react to it, so I guess something strange is going on. Also, I've tried this method, which is not working, too.
Oh, and I just want to mention that the S21 Ultra I brought in China can enable 5G on Three's network, but not on O2. This is just confusing. Could anyone help me to enable 5G on this model? Thanks.
Have you tried on of those Android apps that check your network speed connection? it might just be that you're getting 5G speed but the icon is not showing due to your CSC.

Hi, thanks for the reply. No, I don't think so, because the download speed is significantly lower (500m vs 10-50m), as well as the latency. Also, "SIM card status" in the setting showed that the "Mobile data network type" is "LTE" instead of "NR NSA" (or SA, but there's no SA in UK as far as I know).
And even 4G (LTE) signal is weaker on the newer S22 Ultra model, does this have something to do with the frequency band as well?

Yes, I've tried both methods for One UI 3.0 and 4.0, and the secret code is just not working. I suspect that Samsung either changed the code or prevented it from running on the Korean model (since I saw one website claimed that those secret codes do work on S22 Ultra). And yes, 5G is enabled in the "Network mode" setting.

Ok folks, here's what I found yesterday. Using the app called "Cellular-z", it appears that both my Korean version S22U and Chinese version S21U support 5G in the UK, sort of.
But they do not support N78 (or there's no N78 coverage/ the wall is too thick in my home etc), the only 5G NR bands they support is N1 (and N3? Although it feels more like an LTE+ band).
When switching on 5G in the control panel, both phones are using the 5G network, however, only the Chinese version phone shows the 5G icon. The Korean version does not. But the speed is significantly faster on both phone when 5G are enabled. It boosts from 50Mbps to 450-500Mbps in my home (But the latency is similar whether 5G is enabled, maybe because it's not using N78 or the wall is too thick).
I suspect the Korean version S22U only think N78 is the ''true 5G''.

Yes, they both have a download speed ~450Mbps, and latency ~25ms, which is what you expected from N1. N78 is not supported by both versions (or there is no coverage in my area, which I highly doubt that).
No issues using EE in UK. This pictures are from EH16 Edinburgh UK.
5G reception as good as on other 5G phones, didn't do any tricks or hacks, just works out of the box.

did someone found a solution to this? same issue with us version U U1. 5G doesn't appear. also tried to flash firmware with bootloader 2 (AVDC) but no luck. Google dialer method wont workanymore on oneui 4.0 i think.
I have this same issue with my s21+ SM-G996N, supposedly supports n78 bands (5G) but is stuck on LTE+ everywhere I go.
What carrier would I have to move to in order for 5g to work? Would it work with EE sims?

Question Usa carrier support

I've asked this question before and I can't find anything.
Can anybody confirm the 0/B/E versions to work on TMobile or att or mvnos of them?
If someone wants to be so kindid appreciate it. Really wanting to buy one for root.
if you use AT&T, don't buy any international models because they will block your sim. You may call them to unlock it but the sim will be blocked again after a couple days. The reason is AT&T has a list of supported models and international phones are not on their list.
T-Mobile doesn't have such a horrible thing. So yeah, it works.
Oh, and I am using 908E/DS on T-Mobile network.

That’s what I’ve done and been using till now. Bought the 908E on Amazon, unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. No custom rom for it yet other than tha Magisk rom by dr.ketan. I’ve always been an AT&T customer in so many years. They refused to work with me to make my phone work on their network so I switch to T-mobile.
I’m using the S22 Ultra 908E on T-mobile to write this right now. I don’t see any issue. If there is one, the phone is the issue.

Carrier aggregation and 5g all working well for you on t-mobile?
The missing of band 71 if using on TMO, is a big loss. I wouldn't bother.

No. I don't expect an international phone to be fully working on a US carrier network such as TMO or ATT due to missing bands. If I have to choose between slower connection and the ability to root, I'd choose the latter one. I chose TMO because it works, white ATT not working at all.
There are wifi networks available almost everywhere I go nowadays. In case there is none, usually when I was driving, 4G/LTE always available and that's good enough.

So to confirm, no signal at all for att/cricket?
What about h20wireless? Redpocket mobile?
What site to use to check compatibility? I'll take slower speeds
To confirm:
1. AT&T blocks your sim right away. Your phone turns into a small tablet. That's it. Nothing you can do about it. I don't bother with smaller companies. I only go for the big boys.
2. T-Mobile will give you slower speed and freedom of root. This comes from my experience. Very little chance I need to use my plan's data. I can't tell the speed is slower at all. As far as carrier's features, I don't use any of them, but I think you can still have them if you change it to proper CSC.
Google search your model then you will find what bands your model support. Then Google search your choice of carrier to see what bands they have. Google is your friend.
Not just slower speed. Theres some areas that band 71 would be required to even get service at all in rural areas. Like just 5 min from my house if you have T-Mobile and your phone doesnt have band 71 no service.

All depends on area. It's still missing band 71 and N71 5G. I personally couldn't as it would make my phone useless in areas I frequent

But you could get the 4G LTE tho at least right? I have a 5G phone and i only get LTE speeds which is fine but the carrier doesn't offer 5G.

In the end, as @hyelton just said, it all depends on your area, your luck and how you would use your phone... There is no definite answer to the op's question until he figures it out himself. It works for me and I am happy with what I got but that may not apply to everyone else... If the op decides to roll the dice for a chance to get a phone that he can have total freedom over it he can go for it. Otherwise, just buy the one on Samsung website ending with U models and have all of his worries put away. Honestly, I didn't think about any of that when I placed my order.
My unlocked 908U1 on t-mobile work perfectly, supported band25 with 130-180mbps speeds on LTE.
ps: 5G is totally disabled as it switching every 5 seconds between 4G\5G networks

My OP was based on the international versions because I absolutely have to have root. I have not owned a phone that I could not have root capabilities in over 10 years.
I don't care so much about 5G I just want to have a phone that functions on a US carrier from overseas. Maybe it got lost in translation but I just want to know what carriers people have and if anybody has the carriers that I mentioned with confirmation or denial of service.
Specifically the carriers on most questioned about are H2O wireless and red pocket. I'm not very Google friendly and so I'm not familiar with the bands I'm used to just buying a phone and it working as intended for my purposes.
^^^ You're overthinking it. Just pull up the bandwidths for the carrier you're looking to utilize and go from there. As mentioned you're better served by going for one of the major carriers and maybe their prepaid services. Remember major carriers prioritize their post paid plans first for their optimum network traffic followed by their own respective prepaid plans and finally the MVNOs. I would stay away from the MVNOs in your scenario if you're importing a handset not configured for the U.S to begin it and degrading it further by using an MVNO.
