Totally expected, 45W works just at lower temperatures and under 50% charge as it was back in the Note 10+ days. It's useful only when you are topping up on the go, for 0-100% it's almost the same

Why expected? That was for previous models. Battery charging could have been improved on this phone too.

Well it is improved, it was downgraded 2 years ago to be fair and now is back to that state. It charges faster from 0% to 50% which is exactly how it used to work before. If you expected something different your expectations were wrong, don't know what to say. Even devices with very fast charge charge faster for the first half then slow down considerably. Samsung has always had a more conservative approach on charging after the Note 7 debacle, that's why I expected it to be managed like it was before.

I've traded my Oneplus 7 pro. A 3 year old phone and It still charges much faster than S22 Ultra. Considering to I'm paying for a flagship phone which is over £1000 and it's charging technology called "Super fast" charging. Yeah I'm a bit disappointed.

The N10+ with the 25w brick will fast charge from 5-70% at the rate of 2%@min on its 4300mAh battery. Between 70-82% it may ramp down slightly, at 90% fast charging disengages.
This is dependent on battery start charging temperature, if too low or high fast charging will not engage, and battery condition. A 20% charge in 10 minutes isn't bad...
Fast charging is limited by heat buildup in the battery caused by internal resistance. The Li cell charging process is actually an endothermic reaction but is outweighed by the internal resistance generated heat.

I can see it being an issue for those that prioritize fast charging over battery longevity. I charge my device overnight and use a Chargie to regulate the charge to a maximum of 80% and limited to 8 watts. I'm not a power user and this method may not work for everyone.

Looks like they're using an older 45 watter. The new ones are the real 45 watts.

I heard that was the case. The old 45W charger throttled, making it act like a 25W charger. The new one has PPS and is PD 3.0?

The old 45 Watt averaged about 28 watts of power iirc. The new one will supposedly give the full advertised wattage. I'm just shocked sammobile out of all sites did not know this...

That is shocking. Do you think the new charger will output less heat to the S22 Ultra because of better efficiency thanks to PPS?

I doubt it. QC boosts the charge wattage by increasing the voltage; more volts less amps means less parasitic waste heat.
What's left to improve on the charging protocol side? They to improve the battery itself now for any meaningful performance improvements.
These manufacturers push the hype, the reviewers do too, then long after the release the truth finally comes out.
If you can wait a few months for the dust to settle you'll get a better idea of what to expect.

There is a new 45w charger, model EP-T4510XBEGGB. This one seems to work fine and not overheat.

Curious as to what your thoughts are regarding the Chargie since Samsung has now added the same charge up to 80% feature in Android 12 under device care. Is it now redundant?

And of course that one is sold out everywhere lol, this happens everytime sammy launches a new device. All the accessories are never available, pretty bad they cant get this right its so annoying for us early adopters.

i have those USB-C cable with watt LED display. it only showing 31w on my home 65w aftermarket charger,
also showing only 31w on my 65w aftermarket car charger.

I'm using my OP9P charger lol it works really fast so...I didn't need to buy a separate charger. Thank God since it's sold out

Generic wireless chargers do not fast charge in my experience. I have tried 3 off of Amazon so far.
I have a Seneo Fast Charger stand and its been great .
As long as the wireless dock is Fast Charge capable and your adapter is QuickCharge 2.0 compliant it should work. I have four Seneo Fast Charge docks that I use with both Samsung and RavPower QC 2.0 adapters and they work great with my S7 Edge. I will test when I get it but I'd assume the S8+ will work the same.
You know if it is working because the phone displays two messages when you dock it.
"Charging wirelessly xx%"
and then after a second or two
"Fast charging wirelessly xx%"

I believe the S8 (like the S7) can accept up to 15w wireless charging (Qi 2.0 spec) but most chargers barely output 10w. Not sure why but I would be looking for a good 15w output charger unless theres a reason not to.

I think the reference is to batteries losing capacity. The older a battery is the less capacity it holds. A battery rated at 3600mAH might only hold 2000mAH after a couple of years of use. High charging current causes a lot of heat buildup in the battery and will shorten (spoil) it's life.
Best way to tell if your battery has lost capacity is to measure charge time. Having it die quickly could mean it's just running too many apps, but charging time (with the phone off) should give an indication of battery capacity. If your battery charges twice as fast as a new one, it's lost half its capacity.

Got it. Sorry, I actually thought they meant that the battery spoils. Like the way some "normal" batteries blow up if left in devices for too long. I was seeing memories of the S7 nightmare.
AFAIK, the only listed change between the Dock style Samsung Fast charger and the Convertible Fast charger is that the new 1 can be changed from dock to pad.
I just picked up 2x Dock styles from amazon for 40 bucks a piece, way better than spending 70 for the convertible style.

I was amazed how quickly they showed up too. Took 3 days from order to delivery. I think they purposely put almost 2 weeks delivery time just so that when you get it "early" you're amazed.

Means that the battery holds its charge less. Faster discharges, in general the life of the battery decreases

Fast charging is 100% useless. Charging a 2700mah battery over 3A (over 1C) (which is what the Pixel 2 is capable of), will destroy the battery in short term. To be safe you want to be charging at or around half a C. I'm using a 1.5A HTC block and it charges the phone in under an hour. Gimmicks really do work though it seems, people are buying the phones that charge faster (and will destroy their batteries faster, needing more replacements). Good god.

Am terrible all I spend my spare cash on is phones so I change mine yearly. So if battery is messed up in a year am fine. Fast charging is however very convenient especially now that we don't have replacement batteries on the go.

I think that's a bad idea as they will have specified a battery suitable for 18W charging ...
Battery should last for ages, anyway. It's 5000mAh, very close to pure AOSP, and the display is by no means large.
If you endlessly play with the camera motor, it might drain a bit faster, but otherwise, I suspect this will have the best battery life of any phone in the small flagship class.
I'm fine with QC3.0, since I've used that a lot.
But if it does come with QC4.0 then I couldn't be more happier.
With the battery capacity it has, I don't think I need to charge it all the time so QC3.0 is something extra for me.
The sustained speeds should be higher due to the battery size but I wouldn't personally want to risk modding the charging speed. Sounds like they made the insulation layers pretty small to get the capacity at the expense of charging rate.
My main concern is how well it sustains the speed and the temperatures (QC4 should be decent in that regard) because any maximum speed will drop off a cliff when it gets to 70-80% anyway.
Does it have 4.0 or 4.0+? I've seen some spec sheets saying it has 4.0+

It's really difficult to even find data on what the difference of those two are in real world scenarios. If I'm not mistaken the + version requires two PMICs (whereas it sounds like it was optional before) and I think the Zenfone might just have one. Asus themselves advertise 4 without the plus. If you ask me, Qualcomm should just have called it 5.0 to avoid the confusion especially because Qualcomm's own marketing material is very vague on this.

The phone didn't charge any faster with my Black Shark 2's QC4+ 27W charger....I need to test that again.

I'd be surprised if the battery didn't get dangerously hot if it's done.
The separator wall of cathode and anode on a battery that can handle faster quick charging would need to be thicker.
Asus chose 5000mAh with a smaller separator to keep size down. In the same size, ASUS could have chosen, like many others have, to have gone with a ~4000mAh battery with a thicker wall to support 30W+ fast charging.
It comes down to trade-offs based on physics. I'm always game for experiments though

Mine warms up "as expected" I would say.. nothing surprising at least. Its going to be warmer or less warm depending on where in the charge cycle it is as well

The difference between quick charge 4.0 vs 4+ is that 4+ is compatible with USB PD (power delivery) which is the fastest charging standard, its what i think OnePlus and Samsung use for their tech. 4.0+ was revealed in 2017 a year after 4.0. It's lame but unfortunately Asus's zenfone 6 current batches do not support 4+ (however 4+ charging is still backwards compatible with 4, 3, and 2.0, that's why when @MishaalRahman tried their QC4+ 27W charger it didn't charge any faster, it just downgrades to 4.0 charging speed)
there's a chance a refresh of Asus's zenfone 6 may happen with 4+ release. Doubt it..but who knows
4.0 is still supposed to charge faster than 3.0 but I personally don't really see that increase in charge speed. Could be because of the size of the battery but either way I'm still happy with it because the large battery just means less charging (for me personally) since I just mostly do google searches and text, and once in a while use snapchat/ig. Its the perfect phone for me, I bought it yesterday to replace my Pixel XL (gen 1).

How's your battery capacity holding up after some use with the 65w charging?

Looking at buying this phone but I'd like to know how the battery life holds up over time with the fast charging. What kind of screen off time do you get after 6 months or a year of using the phone?
I've had it for a year and I have charged it with a slow 1 Amp charger every night. I only use the 65w charger maybe once a month. I haven't had any issues.

Yeah I just got my 8T today. I did more research and found out they use multiple temperature sensors that will trigger the device to charge slower if it's overheating. They also use 2 batteries in the phone to prevent this heat from happening under normal charging conditions. If it was in the sun or in a very warm room or something I'm pretty sure it would throttle itself based on some of the reviews I found on it. You might have to have adaptive charging on for this but I would assume it's just more aggressive than the regular protections. Pretty sure you could explode your battery with 65w charging in direct sunlight on a hot day. Anyways I think 1A charging is overkill for protecting it. 1A is also not actually not a measurement of current unless you have the volts also. If it's 5V which I think all usb is but I haven't checked since usb-c came out that would be 5 watts. I guess if you leave it on that overnight it doesn't matter though not like it'll hurt anything.

It's been a while since I don't have an Android device (Iphone user lately) and I'm buying this beauty these days.
I have two questions: First, right now the 45w charger is out of stock so should I buy the 25W instead just until I find the best one (expend money).
Two: How shall we charge this device? All night? Just 2 hous like Iphone? Please help me out on this.
25W vs 45W is really just a matter of the time it takes to charge the phone. And right now, available evidence suggests that its not worth it. As for how to charge it? All night is fine, as the phone will stop charging the battery when it is fully charged.

Yes, that is always the case.
I would recommend buying a 45W (or higher) USB PD PPS power supply. That will work on Samsung devices. But keep in mind: it has to support PPS to allow voltages between something like 5V, 9V, 15V etc. If it is only USB PD, it will only charge at 15W.
I have the Anker Nano II 65W that has PPS, but there is also a 45W version. But that is just one option, there are plenty of other products out there that support 45W USB PD PPS

LAtest equipment come with a battery health function it basically charges fast up to 80% and then slowly charges the remaining 20% to extend battery life. Once at 100% it won't charge at the same level, reducint the current/voltage.
I really don’t want to damage the battery like it happened with my iPhone (1 year and 89%).

The worst thing for mobile phone batteries is heat. So running the display all the time and gaming are probably the things to avoid. Which unfortunately...Is what most phones are being designed for these days. So don't let the phone get hot, and try to keep the charge level under 80% if you want the battery to really last. But batteries WILL degrade. There is no way around that. The best you can do is try to limit the damage.

Two things kill the battery: heat and high/low voltages
In an ideal world, the Li-ion battery is at around 20°C and stays at around 3.8V.
Use the slowest possible charger whenever you can (5W e. g.)
Avoid fast charging as often as possible
Don't charge past 80% and don't let it drop below 20%
Don't let your phone stay at 100% for too long. Nothing will happen but the high voltage will degrade the battery (like if you leave your device plugged in every night).
In theory you shouldn't charge your device when it's hot and so on but I mean if you live in Spain for example and it is summer. What else are you going to do? So avoiding charging the ambient temperature is too high, is something you can't really do. (Yeah, in Spain most homes to have AC but you get the point )
I have taken care of my OnePlus 7T Pro's battery since I have received it 2 years ago. According to OnePlus Diagnostic it started at around 97% health (new device) and is now at 93%. I almost never charge above 80% and have a Tasker routine to only let it stay at 60% over night and charge to 80% right before my alarm rings. I use ACC (Advanced Charging Controller) for that. But it requires Magisk.
That might be a bit extreme but I have only lost 4% after 2 years and countless battery cycles. Keep in mind that every now and then you should go from 0% to 100% to let the system calibrate the battery so that it accurately reports its charge. This is the only reason why you should do this so that the system knows how much capacity the battery has. And if you mostly stay between 20–80% all the time, it might think that 80% is its max charge and start misreporting the percentage.
