General [Verizon] Switching network types - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Was lurking a battery drain thread and 5G came up a couple times so I thought I'd try to switch my band and see what's up. Tried dissecting Settings to the best of my ability and couldn't find sh*t for switching to 4G.
I was determined tho, whipped out the old Google and after a couple searches found a 'Samsung Band Selection' app as a workaround, but I thought the app was overkill for what I wanted. It was pulling a native menu from Settings so I used Tiles(Nova Actions worked too) and looked through its Activities and found that menu myself

No idea if this is even useful for anyone-- thought it was neat. I'm streaming music at work and the network constantly disconnects into a limbo/tug-of-war with finding a suitable connection. Now it's a QS shortcut

Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks -> Network mode -> LTE/3G/2G
LTE is 4G. No dialer codes or fancy backdoor access required.

Right, that's where I originally got frustrated. This is what happens when I click Network Mode and why I even considered making this post
Spoiler: Screen Shots

Completely different menu compared to the unlocked version. Must be a Verizon thing.

Verizon continues to amaze me with the ridiculous chastity belt it puts on each device. Theres only one Flip3 section so I put it under general knowing that it'll only apply to a fraction
The discussions in these threads were super helpful towards my battery drain, but I wish I could follow universal guides for android
The ability to access simple things without needing the planets to be aligned..

If your current network is not working properly and you want to switch your network with verizon so you will take a good decision here you have to use WPS BUTTON OF WIFI ROUTER this network is very fast and it help you to download your work and content.

[Q] Force 2g/EDGE on LG Phoenix???

So, I have extremely crappy 3G coverage at my home sometimes, and it completely prohibits me from speaking to people. I have called AT&T tech support and basically they said they know the transmitter in my area has a problem, and I can go pound sand. A microcell "might" work, but I have heard they have problems on DSL lines, and I really don't feel it is fair that I should have to pay extra for what my service provider should be supplying anyways. But enough with my anger at my provider.....
I just purchased this LG Phoenix and the way I used to get around my 3G problem previously was that I would force 2g/EDGE on my old BlackBerry Bold 9000. Not only that, but it used to save LOTS of battery power. On this phone though, it wouldn't appear you can't disable 3G. I have checked in the settings, and I have tried a couple of different Apps in the android market to no avail.
Have I missed something, or am I just going to have to wait months till developers start rolling out custom ROMs or the like? I really like this phone other than the fact that I can barely make calls on it at my house. Which negates the purpose of owning a phone I suppose.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I see nobody has any answers. That's OK, because I found out what I needed.
Basically AT&T disabled the option to choose your data network within the operating system. (Along with side-loading, which I will admit they fixed with the 2.2.2 update)
What I need to access is in one of the two following menu options on this device:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Unfortunately, I have been told that I can deal with it and pound sand, or wait until a custom ROM is adapted to this device.
Sooooo.....
In case anybody actually gives a crap, I have found an answer to my dilemma.
You can force 2g/3g transmitter usage though the hidden menu on your phones.
First, dial: 3845#*505# (Phoenix) 3845#*506# (Thrive)
Scroll down to the "Network Mode" selection and enter.
Automatic is the first selection in that menu. This is what are phones are set to by default. This allows the phone to switch between whatever it thinks is the best wireless network to use. Unfortunately, I can barely talk to people when I have 1 bar of signal in my house, and very often the phone won't switch over to 2g when 3g signal is very weak. 2g also saves A LOT on battery power.
If you want to choose the wireless mode your phone, scroll down to the bottom of that menu and you will find the following options:
- If you choose WCDMA Only, you will connect to the 3G network
- If you choose GSM Only, you will connect to the 2G/EDGE network
I hope this is helpful to somebody other than just me.
Is there an easier way of doing this rather than inputting that code each and every time?
Bueller? Bueller?

Agreed but do you mean that data won't sleep after this?
I understand the instructions: effectively you use the suggested app to access the apn settings of your phone. it shows that there is two different apn settings, and by setting them both to default will fix the data connection problems.
I tried this, however it has had no effect on my phone. tested extensively as I am in hospital just now and haven't been off my phone.
Vodafone UK, HTC one S S4, rooted with stock 4.0.4 android.
Easiest/quickest fix I've found is to change connection type to GSM only, then back to CDMA once the phone signal resets. bloody annoying though, surprised that there isn't a fix for this yet.

[Q] D6633 Lollipop - Location based wifi missing

This used to be in Stamina mode, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Has it moved to another setting (tried looking but can't find it) or has it been completely removed?

It is not missing in D6603. Settings : WI-FI : press the tree dots that are showing in the upper-right corner : Advanced : and there it is.
Do you mind telling me where you can find it there coz I seem to overlook it.
Screenshots from advanced in the wifi settings.
I don't see any location based wifi options here.

Also according to Sony, they removed this feature: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...out-Lollipop-BALTIC-GENERAL/m-p/959335#M24468
Instead you can use Smart Wifi Toggler (or any other app, they all share the same idea). It works basically well and SWT has as well an option to prefer 5Ghz WLAN.

I have wifi-o-matic (similar function), which I used before I had the z3, however trying it on the z3 it seems to open the wifi at random points and never closes it.
Smart Wifi Toggler works properly after some learning phase. I can see Wifi switched off, however the power history shows it all the time on.
Seems Sony got rid of "location based wifi" because they think Google's own scanning always available option has been improved in Lollipop. I very much doubt that.
If wifi matic doesn't improve, I will give smart wifi toggler a go.
I really liked the fact that Sony had baked in the wifi option into their rom, so was slightly annoyed that they removed it with the lollipop upgrade.

Question Phone radio signal battery drain overnight

Hi, I'm trying to solve this constant battery drain issue from my phone radio signal, my mobile data is off and I've turned off 'Keep mobile data alive' in developer setting.
I've a rather weak LTE signal in my housing area ranging around -106db (yellow range). I've tried band locking but my carrier only have 1 band (band 3) available in my area and they are going to remove 3g end of this year.
I'm looking for suggestion or solution like stop boosting the transmitter strength when the reception is low/bad or applying a transmitter threshold. Thanks.

Try a network reset.
Clear system cache.
Try in safe mode to see if it's a 3rd party app.
Any cloud or backup apps running?

I've tried the afore-mention methods except the clear system cache thingy. I forgot to say that if I turn on airplane mode the 'Phone Radio' doesn't consume any battery anymore despite having wi-fi turned on.
Ummm, look at your stats.
>.4%@hr at night. Phone standby uses the most power at night but not much...
Here are all of the options in Settings that may help in the order they appear in the app, but not necessarily the best priority.
Settings -> Network & internet -> Mobile network
Disable "Roaming"
Disable "VoLTE"
Disable "5G Network"
Set "Preferred network type" to the highest known available speed (as in if you don't have 4G, select the one that tops out at 3G).
You could also disable "Automatically select network" and choose the specific network you want to connect. Keep in mind, this setting will also limit you to that network even when it is not the best connection.
The drain is not THAT much greater than any phone with decent reception. Honestly, turning on Airplane mode with Wifi when you know the reception is bad and you can use it is really the best option. Both have statusbar tiles that are much easier than going in and selecting networks or changing network types, unless they are always the same everywhere.

Question Software Update disappeared

Unlocked variant from Samsung. I had a Software Update setting section. Soon after putting my Verizon SIM in the device the setting isn't there anymore.
Not sure how to fix or get the setting back. I can't check for new updates either
I have an unlocked variant (SM-F711U1) running a Verizon SIM and software updates option is right in the main settings menu

If you can't find it there, try going to Settings; About Phone; then on the bottom you should see "looking for something else?" And software update under it. Check the pic I've attached
This is all I have
Sorry for the late reply, but to me it almost seems like your phone didn't quite set itself to Verizon's configuration when you put your Verizon SIM card in. It's almost like it has no configuration for updating software PERIOD. This is very strange as even the unlocked version, while brand new, with no SIM ever put in should still show some form of a software update option when connected to internet.
The two suggestions I have are 1)
Use Google dialer set to default and dial code *#*#3747#*#* that will take you to a menu with three options and you want to tap on the "phone information" option and there will be a massive amount of information about your phones network configuration in there including stating that it is actively running on the Verizon network and successfully has the carrier provisioning info. (Disclaimer: I suggest not getting curious and manually changing settings in there when you don't know what you're doing because you can disable network bands and really end up having to factory reset your whole phone if you don't fully comprehend what you're changing) I'm just suggesting that you look visually to make sure of what I said above is what you see.
2nd)
If nothing else, pop your sim card out and go to settings, general management, reset and then tap the reset network info option and let your phone reset it's whole network configuration. If it doesn't reboot itself after then manually power the phone down, while powered down reinsert your Verizon SIM card and then power back up and give it a few minutes to get itself reconnected to Verizon's Network and after about 10 minutes I would reboot the phone again and see if anything has changed.
Spoiler: Also check this in about, status information, SIM status
You should see what you see in my picture when you click the spoiler link.
