Question [CLOSED] Bounty: 0.002 BTC (~$100USD) for Cover Screen Notification Icons (xpost from Reddit) - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Hi all, crossposting from Reddit:
I'm hoping to solve what seems like a pretty big omission in the design of the cover screen on the Z Flip 3: notification icons on the cover screen.
Requirements:
notification icons shown should be the same that appear below the clock on the lock screen of the main screen
notification icons must show in always-on mode
notification icons must show without swiping or any other user action
no bootloader unlocking or other jailbreaking; this should be a solution for anyone
Thanks to everyone who responded. I was so sure I was missing the correct setting, but it seems like it's just not possible. However, if it's already available and it's just some checkbox we're all missing, the first person to put me on the right track still gets the bounty, and I'll RMA a box of scorpions to Samsung for not making it the default.

I hope someone picks this up

I agree that it really should be included in the firmware already. I see the outer screen as a fancy version of the S-View window (or bar, in more recent phones).
There is a minor problem with actually completing this, though. Widgets need to be swiped to run, much like swiping to the notifications. I haven't actually tested if the widget you select will persist, but I would assume a reboot would reset it.
It appears like the outer clock really hasn't been developed enough to support third-party versions, so there is no making a custom clock without root to implement it. Without root or an unlocked bootloader, modifying the firmware is also out of the question.
It seems what you are asking for is really something that will need to be included in a future update (either in the form of custom clock support or flat out notification display), unless you are willing to also accept the caveats of having it done in the form of a widget.

With all due respect to everyone, this is not Reddit! Please take note of XDA Rule #11:

Suggestion: Dangerous programs sticky thread.

This is a suggestion / request to the mods as well as an invitation to all site members to contribute any info they have on this.
At the moment there are no real viruses for windows mobile devices, only a few proofs of concept.
But I have encountered a few examples of supposedly normal commercial software that I really wouldn't want installed on my phone.
Example 1:
A while back a small company (who's name I no longer remember) sent a letter to all its customers threatening that the anti-piracy protection on their software will damage your bootloader if a cracked version of one of their apps is discovered on your phone.
Example 2:
It was reported a while back that Agile Messenger sent user names and passwords for all messenger services unencrypted through the net potentially giving anyone access to your accounts.
Example 3:
While reading the EULA for Opera Mini I discovered it sends users phone number and all their browsing data (cookies, history, cache) to the Opera ASA server basically spying on your internet activities.
Unfortunately all the threads dealing with these otherwise nice and useful apps have now moved deep in to site history so any new users or just someone who haven't been on the site for a while is likely to miss them.
My proposal is this:
Create a sticky locked thread, I think the general section would be most appropriate, so anyone visiting the site would be able to see the list of programs he might want to avoid.
Why lock the thread?
As I understand it moderators can still edit locked threads any time they want so there are two reasons to keep it locked from the general public:
1) To keep the list clear and easily readable.
I am sure many people will want to comment on the software even if it is just to say "how dare they do this?", but any comments / questions would be better off in separate threads.
2) To be fair to the software creators.
I think that anyone making a claim against a software should provide some minimum proof. Like the email quoted in example one, comm log dump or screen shots. At the very list confirmation from other users.
This site has a lot of impact on the mobile community and it would be a shame if a wrongfully accused software would suffer due to being publicized as damaging here.

[App] ezPDF: The best Android PDF Reader

I was really disappointed with all Android PDF readers & unwilling to sell my iPod touch just for apps like GoodReader! A couple of weeks ago I found this great app called "ezPDF Reader" by accident in market & gave it a try & it's just impressive!
Unlike Repligo, QuickOffice, DocumentsToGo &.... it renders everything really fast, renders huge PDF files without any problems & here's the list of some of it's features:
It's super fast & reliable, not a single FC on documents larger tha 40 MBs!
Renders pages & pictures in a blink! It really shames Adobe Reader & similar apps...
Supports auto zooming feature for all columns & pictures.
Supports Night Mode & text reflow the way it should!
Shows thumbnails of all pages while reading in a very pleasant way!
Gets updated at least once a week! (Have had it for about 2 months)
Developers will actually implement your request, just tweet them or email them & in next version it's there!
You can add bookmarks to your documents.
Fully supports password-protected files.
Supports Wake-Lock.
Supports multi-touch up to 3 fingers.
Plays the multimedia content in PDFs.
Comes with free PDF printer for PC!
Supports Copy/Paste!
Supports pinch to zoom, horizontal lock, remembers your zoom level & position when you navigate.
Great animations!
It's just 0.99$!!!!!
& much more...
I really think developers deserve being supported, it's 5-star-rated in Market but it's been stuck in 1000-5000 downloads range for a very long time! Just give it a try, you'll love it! I just don't want developers abandon it coz there's nothing like it in Android Market! I don't know why it hasn't got enough attention though!
Appbrain Link
If you have already tried it, you can post your idea about it here!
They just released another update today which improves the rendering speed much more! I just hope they release a trial version or something to get more attention! Nobody has used the app here?
I have this on a Nook Color and I can't seem to get the menu to redisplay once the overlay controls minimize. How do you do it?
It really is the BEST PDF reader on Android!

It is the best one among those pdf reader I have used.
If you search the threads started by me, you realize I was desperately looking for a PDF reader with ezPDF features couple of months ago!
Android Market PDF readers are nothing good compared to this & they all carry price tags like 10$!!!
There's no benefit behind this topic for me, just want to make the project popular so it continues the way it is going now! It's been always updated at least twice a week... If you haven't tried it yet, use the 24 hours refund policy to check it, however I don't think you will ever ask for refund!

Does this annotate pdf? I'm trying to figure out why apple has 10,001 apps that markup pdf and Droid has none (that I found)
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
I just stumbled upon this app today. I was looking for a reasonably priced reader that had bookmarks so I can resume reading of large docs. This fits it to a "T". All the others I looked at were in the $7-10 price range. The UI is taking some getting used to, I would like to see a help or manual as there are almost too many options.

I still consider it as spam. Simple as that. You don't give a review. You just sum up the things it can do, you give a price and that's it.
And now you are talking about a 24 hours refund policy? Man... this is just spam.
I don't know what to tell you buddy! Whatever you wish to call it, I listed the features I think no other Droid PDF reader has, I can't figure out your problem!! Developers are Korean, I am by the way Iranian/Persian so ...!
It doesn't need a detailed review since there's no competition in PDF readers field on Android Market...! I think it is 5/5 rated!
As for manual, I found it a bit confusing too! Actually developers have an odd way of describing the features & how-to-dos! Read their tweets from following URL, somehow it works as their manual!!!
twitter.com/ezpdf
I have this app also, it really is the best. I was ready to buy BeamReader then I found ezPdf

ADW was developed & advertised hereon XDA. Dialer one was advertised here on XDA. Mort player was both advertised during it's Winmo days & now in Android too.

Spamming your app however is different.

This is not a personal vendetta. I encourage all developers to promote their apps. I have no problem with that. The problem is that I think it's rather inappropriate to promote apps in a forum where developers are discouraged to promote their own paid apps. Isn't really motivating. Don't you see that?
And I didn't have had any problems with any moderator. So no, that isn't my motive also.
And of course I have contacted xda developers, but with a constructive request if it is possible to look for a way how developers can promote their own apps without undermining the philosophy of xda developers.
Btw ADW, dialer one and mort are free programs/apps as far as I know.

I'm sorry if that's how you feel, I thought I was helping out the community by providing legit access to paid apps and games, which might other wise be stolen. From there people who like the apps will spread word to their friends, generating much more income in theory.
Why don't hold the giveaway here on xda? Seems like you want to generate traffic to your blog and harvest email addresses. You didn't even describe how winners are selected.
I only require emails to contact them if they've won. I don't use the emails for anything else.
Winners are selected at random, I posted that in the initial giveaway and forgot to put it in the second. I use random.org to generate a winner.
As for posting this on XDA, I use the blog because I don't always have apps to giveaway, so in the meantime I update it with other articles. This takes some time and energy on my part as well, corresponding with dozens of developers trying to work out some deal, so yes I do hope it generates traffic.
Your not actually giving them away, people need to win them..the title is misleading.
No, the apps are being given away, there are just limited copies available so it's only fair that the winner is choosen randomly.

[APP][4.0+] Forum Fiend

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ape.apps.forumfiend
So I am the developer of a little known Tapatalk alternative forum reader called Forum Fiend. The app has come a long way since I released it last fall. The reason for my post is that I have noticed XDA is the #3 site accessed through Forum Fiend, so there might be a couple of users around here. Was wondering if people could share their issues with the app or provide feedback on how to make it better. My goal is to provide a fully functional and superior forum browsing experience vs Tapatalk.
Thanks in advance for your input!

[*]Changed the language on the forum listing screen input box to make it more apparent that a URL is the required input
[*]Forum settings have been moved out of the sliding menu and on to their own screen.

I just tried it and it's a good start. It needs some work like labelling. Right now, it's just a box with the word "Add". Need a tutorial or something to guide the user into what or how to get into a forum. Right now, I had to guess and put the entire web address in the box. The key at the bottom needs a label. Even something as simple as "login" or something. I'm no IT/Tech expert but I can get around and figure stuff out. Not everyone is tech savvy so they need a little guidance.
Need a way to access favorite forums. XDA, for example, is a large forum. People don't like to scroll through every phone or tablet to find their forum.
Hopefully, this helps a little. I don't want to sound critical but these are things you need to know.
Taptalk is the gold standard right now but I like competition so good luck.

THANK YOU this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
I've been looking for something to replace Tapatalk, and I've looked at FF a few times. Figuring out how to get a forum loaded was confusing. The only way I figured out how to get on to XDA was happening to see it on the Play Store pictures. Logging in was a bit awkward too. When I saw the key at the top, I figured it was a link to purchase a pro version or something.
Most of all though, the look of it kept me from switching over. It feels dated. From the default cartoon avatars before logging in to a forum and icons, to the font and colors, it just feels a little off, although the action bar looks fine. I also feel like the slide out navigation is sort of wasted on the settings menu and active users, neither of which I use much. They might be better suited for faster navigation, search, showing subscribed forums/topics.
The number 1 reason, though, that I am looking for a Tapatalk replacement is the ability to bypass the forum selection page since I only use XDA. If it could detect that only one forum is present and automatically enter that one when opening the app, that would be legit.
Sorry to seem like I was going on and on. I think it has good potential, and some easy-ish fixes can make a world difference.

Thanks, this is good feedback. I have read other comments in the market also saying the interface looks dated, but I am not entirely sure what a more modern interface looks like. Do you consider the general look and feel of Tapatalk to be a good example of modern, that I can use as a guide to work off of?
As for automatically going to a specific forum, that would certainly be easy to add. I was thinking of letting users place icons for their specific forums on their homescreen, so they could launch each forum just as they would a stand alone app. They would probably be widgets technically, but could look just like a normal app icon.

Can you pleae explain what else is tracked and how?
I appreciate the fact you asked for the voice of community. I guess it's somewhat vital for application's life, if anything else for gaining people's attention. Anyway, first thing I noticed when I installed Forum Fiend (yeah, I installed Forum Fiend now for the first time) was the fact that you need to manually enter forum server's URL. It's not a major PITA, but perhaps it would be nicer if it was done the Tapatalk way. The design is quite up-to-date IMHO, but as Jesellers88 said, default icons are cute, but kind of unprofessional, I'm afraid.
Also, BBCode support is a quite handy feature which Tapatalk does not offer (kudos!), but a full-fledged editor with preview, code and other stuff depending on what each forum allows would be even better, though Tapatalk offers nothing.
To summarize: Forum Fiend is quite a nice application, but above mentioned suggestions (mine and from others in this thread) would bring it to perfection, I suppose. This post was intended to be a constructive critique and in no manner something intended to offend your work. I'm not an application developer or anything alike so this is my two cents .
Seems really interesting. Will certainly keep an eye on this project.

Yes sure, I use Google Analytics to track page views, and also I track an event each time a server connection is made (server URL only, no other information is tracked).
I also send server connection information (again, URL only) to a database at my website, so that in the future I can implement a "most popular" forums section.
I see someone saw my comment.
Thank you thank you thank you. I can't stand the Tapatalk app. You have my thanks and full support!

Thanks for the feedback. A preview mode for the BBCode editor would certainly be easy to accomplish, so I will probably be adding that in there.
The primary reason I do not have a forum listing/browsing option like Tapa, is that I do not have access to Tapa's massive forum database (at least, not that I know of). I agree that it sucks having to manually type in the server address though. To try to somewhat get around this, I have been logging which servers are being accessed from the app (server address only, no personal info), and plan on adding a "most popular servers" list, or some other way to browse. It is the best I can come up with for the time being though :-/ If anybody has suggestions on better ways to implement this though, I am open to any ideas!

Thanks. The reason I started this project, and the reason I lost faith in Tapatalk, is because I had previously bought their "pro" app. Then they downgraded it to a free app and released another paid pro version. I wanted something that works without getting nickeled and dimed!

I don't mind paying if it works. Tapatalk is awful.

nice work. one issue encountered: app crashes when using "Last Page" function on a 1 page post. probably want to handle that better.

Definitely need some sort of tutorial. Like how do I go about subscribing to a thread?

Can you be interested in a new keyboard type?

hi, I would need feedback and some advice on this topic, is there a need to change the way we enter data via our touch-screen?
the qwerty model keyboard, as functional as it is, doesn't prevent us from fully exploiting the flexibility that a touch screen offers?
Do you already know of any applications that are trying an innovative way?
something like this -> h__ps://78.media.tumblr.com/4b793885c31132b1db6a1bbcc517d0a4/tumblr_inline_n4t4ws6F821r0z1sd.gif
I have not found one so I made one, I developed a new app to enter data via touch input, i developed it for android system and allows you to completely customize the system with which to enter data; what does that mean?
means that every touch on the screen becomes a valid point for data entry and each of these various characters/actions/suggestions change positions and dimension based on different parameters, such as number of touches on the screen, screen size, screen orientation, screen definition, type of data to be entered, dictionary used.... too complicated? the app is currently in its final stage, and I am now developing a python library that allows you to create pkg of configurations;
What I would also ask you would support a crowdfunding campaign to complete this app and its supporting site?
crowdfunding campaign isn`t allowed on XDA

the fact is that there is no fundraising campaign, and there will not be until I have finished all the work, and it will take a long time; the post I created was not to raise funds but to get an answer on what I think a big limit that we still carry behind, I wanted to open a discussion about what alternative to qwerty users believe should exist; if I expressed myself badly deleted even the post, it is not a problem : )

I did not say you started a campaign, I just pointed to the rules that a further discussion won`t derail towards crowdfunding, that`s all.
You are more than welcome to discuss anything else related to development and also post links , screenshots or anything wich can help you.
I also can move this thread to the Android General discussion section if you want, off-topic is basically non-development related so , your choice, just let me know
