Dual SIM dialing - LG Velvet Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have dual SIM version of the Velvet. Previously I used Xiaomi MI9 (also dual SIM), and when I switched I was so surprised the way you get to choose from witch SIM card you are making a call. Is that really it that in LG you need to choose SIM card in notifications menu before making a call?
For example MIUI gives you different options, one SIM to be default or ask before making a call, or you can always tap and hold contact to choose a SIM card...
That's weird, or am I missing a setting?

Hi have you had an answer for this? I'm hesitating between this and a Xiaomi device and dual sim usage is really important to me

No, I just got used to it, that I must double check which SIM card is currently selcted. It's annoying but well... it works, though. I switched from Mi9, but it had terrible battery life. I still see people annoyed from battery problems in their Xiaomi.

You can always preset a SIM card to certain number.

Hi thanks for answering! I can get the Redmi Note 10 pro and the LG velvet for the same price; that's why I have been hesitating, but my current phone is still working so whichever is cheaper will be my next phone haha
How is your transition from MIUI to the Velvet UI? I have never tried MIUI before but from videos I have seen, I really like the way it looks, LG's UI on the other hand, I still have mixed feelings...

Velvet UI and MIUI are a bit different, but can't tell which one is better. Maybe one thing I miss is gesture navigation. I have chosen Velvet because of Dual Screen case - the one thing that distinguished that phone among others.

Z3 Dual

I just got this device, model D6633. Seems that it's just the same as regular Z3 except for dual SIM card. I was wondering if root will be achievable on this model once its out for the single SIM Z3?
Thanks! Fantastic phone by the way. best allrounder on the market
As my experience with Note 3 Duos, there is no differences in rooting and recovery conpare to 1 sim variant.
Ps: is Z3 Dual enable HSPA on both sim, OP?
Im actually curious about this as well as I have the opportunity to get the Dual sim version but need to root

Where did you buy it? Online? I'm looking for importing it from Poland, the only European country who looks to be receiving it.
How's the dual sim's functionality? For example when you receive or do a call or a SMS, is there a button to switch lines or what? Where do you put the second SIM? Is the flap bigger? Sorry for questions, never had a Sony Dual...

The microSD card is moved next to the charger which now has a bigger flap. Both SIMs go next to each other in the right side flap. I'm only using it with 1 SIM card right now, but on the Call buttons and so on there's a small "1" so I'm guessing if I had two SIM cards there would be two buttons or some way to make the call from whichever SIM you want. You cannot also use two simultaneous data connections. the whole setup is pretty neat to be honest. Loving this, can't wait to travel now. lol.
I bought it locally (I live in Beirut, Lebanon) for 800 USD. Pretty steep but that's the way things go around here.

1. are the sim, both NanoSIM?
2. both data connection simultaneous, means you can have double speed??? That would be awesome
3. Youyr version is 16GB? Any news if exist 32GB variant?

3. 16GB. The supplier said only the single SIM Z3 had a 32GB variant. he may be right and just as easily wrong.

According to this only the D6616 has a 32GB option. That's disappointing as the D6603 will be the 'mainstream' model.

Could you change your sim to sim 2 slot and test 3G/HSPA with your phone? On my Note 3, sim 2 slot only work in 2G/Edge mode.
how is the battery life on the dual sim version? is it similar to the D6603?

That is inaccurate. check my post on page 1 containing a screenshot that clearly shows you can only use one SIM data connection.
Do you mean, that you can only use one connection at a time or that one slot is 2g/3g/4g and one is only 2g?

He misunderstand my meaning. He installed one sim and don't want to change sim slot to test. As Z3 D6633 manual: only one 3G/4G connection at a give time but on any slot/sim.
My Note 3 Duos has 1 slot can be used as 3G connection, another only for 2G

Really? Is that a thing? I have never heard of such a thing as dual SIM causing the phone to lag or anything.
It certainly depends on your preference. As far as I know, Dual SIM phones are great since you don't have to carry multiple devices, which can be a good thing or a terrible thing. Good thing because one device, duh! Bad thing because, two connections, 1 battery. But if you are like me and don't care for carrying too many devices in your pocket, go for the dual SIM. It is great and it certainly doesn't lag.. (where'd you read that it lags?)

I use single sim. and it's fine. I never heard of the phone lagging on dual sim.
What I can say is, it's depends on what you need. If you don't want to carry multiple phones, buy the dual sim.
especially more people (at least here) uses dual sim, and also more custom roms are available for the dual sim.

The OP6 does support VoLTE.
I think you may not be getting it earlier because the carrier didn't support it.

5T didn't support it aside from very few networks. In Europe for example, it didn't work at all. If OP6 stays the same, it's not good.

Hard to say. I chatted with Oneplus support about the lack of Volte on the 5T for my network (although the network has it enabled) and they weren't much help at that time.

There was a build.prop tweak that enabled it in settings but toggling it didn't do anything for me.
Guess we'll have to wait and see
P20 pro has it enabled by default
I can't imagine going back after volte

There are surprisingly many phones that support VOLTE out of the box (including some cheap Xiaomi) so it's hard to understand why OnePlus can't get this sorted.
My OnePlus 6 has both VoLTE and VoWiFi in the settings, I just turned both features on. I have both a T-Mobile and ATT (via FreedomPOP) SIM card installed on the phone, T-Mobile is my primary carrier.

Here you go... This is on my OnePlus 6, with my primary SIM (SIM 1) running on T-Mobile US. My second SIM is on FreedomPop (ATT MVNO) and only has 200mb of data, so it's more just in case of emergency. Let me know if you need anything else.
Now we just need know if RCS Universal Profile will be supported. Sadly it's not rolled out on T-Mobile ( hopefully by the end of next month though) so no way to test it on there but, it would be nice if someone on a carrier that already has it turned on could confirm with us that it's working on the OnePlus 6 or not.

thank you for that, i just purchased a op6 i should have mid next week, i will decide then which to keep, p20 pro or op6
how is the camera on the op6?
i miss the speed and stock feel of oneplus, also ok google doesnt work on my p20 pro - i think its a global issue with huawei.
the only thing p20 pro has going for it is its camera. everything else is sub-par, two year old soc, bloated emui, un-needed services, huawei breaking googles apis in favor of its own, etc etc.
i can see huawei creating its own OS to try and compete with android in the not too distant future, thats where ill draw the line.
theybe already made it hard enough for developers.

I don't have much to compare it too, as I was using a OnePlus 2 before this, and my backup phone was a Nexus 5. Plus, I take pictures on a Canon 6D when I'm out taking photos. But from the little I've played with it so far, it seems reallyy good! I'm sure it's not P20 Pro good, but that's to be expected, and from the sound of it, the shortcomings of the P20 Pro in every other aspect sound like it's not really worth it. I have the 8GB + 128GB Mirror Black, and this thing is ridiculously fast. I've taken a few photos with my favorite camera app (Manual Camera - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2&hl=en_US) and so far they've come out really nice.

I've never owned a OP phone, but I really want to buy one, always used HTC phones. Would really like the phone to be able to get VOLTE. I know the OP5T couldn't get VOLTE in Australia, so hoping that changes with this phone
My OnePlus 5 had VoLTE, worked flawlessly on T-Mobile.

If you don't mind, can you pull out the TMo SIM and just use the ATT one, and make a call and see if it says "HD Call" in the dialer, and while *on the call*, does the cellular service stay on LTE or does it change to HSPA until the call ends?
That will tell us if they sorted out the VoLTE issue with ATT that the OP5T had...
VoLTE was enabled automatically on my phone as I set it up. On Norwegian bands, so it definitely works in Europe now. Phone calls sound great!
Yeah, the phone obviously supports it, and it is up to the carrier to provision it, or not.
In the US, AT&T would not provision VoLTE to the OP5T. So if you are someone that pays for a tethering plan and needs to do that from time to time, you can tether on LTE, but as soon as you make a phone call your cell service drops to HSPA(3G) and it's like being on dial up. So you can tether, or you can make a call, but you can't really do both at the same time effectively.
I am hoping this isn't an issue with the OP6, else I can't use that phone...

I tried, but the issue is that I don't think I get "HD Call" at all being as my second SIM isn't straight ATT, it's FreedomPop (ATT MVNO), so I didn't see the HD Call while on the call via that SIM card (I removed the T-Mobile SIM and put it in my old OnePlus 2 to place the test call between them).
However, while on the call I ran a speed test and got the below results:
Than I re-ran the speed test, while NOT on a call, and here are the results:

Possible to remove 'SIM 1' text and icon?

I've just got a U12+ with dual SIM support (not a conscious choice, it's just what was available). I never intend to use the second SIM slot (for extra memory yes, but not for a SIM). Is there a way to make the system behave like a single-SIM system?
There are several places where extra SIM info displays, and it's all superfluous and makes more noise in the UI if you only use a single SIM. For example the carrier name at top of screen is followed by "(SIM 1)"; the cellular signal has a "1" next to it; when a text arrives it has an icon next to it; and the text send button says "SIM 1" next to it. (Update: For the last thing, the text is modifiable via the dual sim manager, cannot be empty, but a blank is accepted, so that is gone, but only from that one place it seems.)
There are probably other places where "SIM 1" is shown. Is there a way to turn off all the extra SIM 1 stuff? Pretty unimportant, but would be nice...

The more I think about this... the dual SIM support and behaviour is probably more about how android works, right? It's not really specific to this device, but would occur with any dual SIM phone? If so, the question/rfe should be redirected to google...

X2 Pro international, single SIM to Dual SIM

Hi,
Went to the local shop, opened the SIM tray and we saw there were connectors for 2 SIM cards. Seems that there is only the SIM tray (easy to modify) that changes in the hardware.
My question is : is it possible to modify the software/phone for it to recognise 2 SIM cards like the Chinese variant?

But i was able to adapt it and it recognized the second sim. But won't connect the second sim to the network as it doesn't have a second IMEI "yet".
So trying to find solutions with some friends.

A quick question, what happens if you pull the SIM1 (the fully working one) out? Does the SIM2 (the limited one) work now?
And what if you physically switch them in the SIM card tray?
This might be a great test to whether it's a physical or a software limitation.

SIM1 + SIM2 = you only see the information
SIM2 only = it says insert sim
SIM2 SIm into SIM1 slot = works normal
we tried "nearly" everything, and the only possibility would be to unlock bootloader, and flash a ROM with pieces of the Chinese ROM and still there we might not even make it work as there is no second IMEI - I guess it's possible to flash it one way or the other, but to much work. It's easier to buy the chinese one, adb pm (delete) what apps you want to delete (like the launcher, we test on the global x2Pro with nova installed and it worked fine.

Maybe only for you. I used to buy dual sim phones in the past, but nowadays network providers have all-in packages which allows me to use my sim in the EU with no extra cost.
Sent from my OPPO CPH2025 using XDA Labs
That is correct. But I compared the bands, and they are the exactly the same as the Chinese version. Now I'm sending back the global version and getting the Chinese from wondamobile Monday.
Will be testing it and making the changes I need to make it work. We also tested the launcher issue, and it's an easy fix. So if you NEED dual SIM I think the Chinese version will be fine unless you need languages that are not on the Chinese firmware.

Maybe only for you. I used to buy dual sim phones in the past, but nowadays network providers have all-in packages which allows me to use my sim in the EU with no extra cost.

Of course, I forgot to mention it's just my opinion; I have access to some data-only packages which offer unlimited data with decent speeds - these data plans would utilize dual SIM the best.
Anyway, may I ask you couple of questions (mostly just clarifications):
- Is there eSIM possibility for the Find X2 Pro?
- VoLTE and VoWiFi working?
- Is there any notification restriction (autostart - as other guys have mentioned for the Chinese version)?
- Can you set your fingerprint as an access to some apps/password fill (the same way Samsung does it with One UI)?
Thank you Sir!
That's for you. But I have two lines work and private. Thus I need two Sims.

I still hope the Global ROM will be successfully ported on a Chinese device as, from what I understood, the PDEM software has some limitations regarding notifications and running apps? Furthermore I'd appreciate VoLTE and Hey Google fully running.
I don't think it will be an issue. VOLTE is often a carrier/manufacturer issue. I had that probleme with a op7p before, and there was a quick fix for it... I'm not really worried about it.
As of the ok Google thing...we will see. Let me get the phone between my hand and I'll see that with Mauro.

As far as I know there is no eSim option (I've read somewhere)
Both VoLTE and VoWIFI working
About notification restrictions: I haven't experienced any issues with notification. WhatsApp, email, telegram, etc works ok.
I'm sure that fingerprint can be set for some apps. I'm sure about that (I think the device asks you at first setup)

But in the next weeks will be possible to change the international version in dual sim (after your check and try )?

Thank you Sir! Maybe two more things (as I am considering the Drillish offer):
- L1 working fine?
- Hey Google working fine (full Google Assistant)?
Thank you very much for your time!

I don't think so as apparently OPPO has completly blocked the possibility to add an IMEI. So it's going to be hard.

IMEIs are primarily used as an anti-theft measure and adding or changing them is made all but impossible as a result.
I was considering getting this phone (there is a crazy deal for it available in Germany at the moment) but the lack of Dual-SIM is really making me hesitate. It feels so arbitrary that they removed it and practically all devices in this price range feature it. And wireless charging. Who ever though that wireless charging was superfluous -.-
