These are the screenshots of the verizon apn settings I have in my phone, does it seem correct? I get only one bar sometimes and that's not normal for me

yes that looks mostly correct. But depending on where you are located there might be different values. probably contact verizon. I know there used to be a dialer code to reset your APN but not sure now.

Geotaging pictures on pda (gps question)

I have looked for any info on this over the last few weks and im really surprised that nobody else wants to do this on a pda!
I have posted in the Artemis area but nobody can help!
What im after is a 3rd party program to embed gps coordinates when i take a picture on my pda.The Artemis has a built in gps but im sure other bluetooth receivers would do the same job
I have since learned that this is called geotagging and some digital cameras with now embed the gps coordinated onto the picture. Web sites like http://www.panoramio.com/ which make a kml file to view your pics in google earth.
At the moment tho i have to find these coordinates by using picasa 2
and using their geotag option but you still have to find the location manually on google earth
download picasa here: http://picasa-server.com/?s=yp_uk&OV...MTC=s tandard
It would be so much easier to be able to just take a pic on the Artemis and have the coordinates automacally embedded on to the file!
Any new ideas please please????
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocoded_photo
it mentiones quite a few methods of including geotag into a picture. i think the best method suiting your needs would be:
Wikipedia said:
Syncing coordinates from GPX tracks into the Exif header using software that compares time stamps. The software programs RoboPhoto, RoboGEO, Quakemap, and TopoFusion, as well as the web-based services GeoSnapper and Thingster, can match up photos in this way. For the Mac, PhotoGPSEditor will do the trick.

also, i remember seeing somewhere a software which logged gps position into a simple log file, so it would be easy to develop an app which use that data without dealing with gps receiver. Now if we had a software that edits exif jpeg tags on pocketpc, we could use this gps log file... i know thats the big if...
got it sorted check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1143082#post1143082

Rapidshare is DOWN!!!

JAN 19 2008
There are rumors that Rapidshare.com, the German file sharing and data storage giant, has been shut down by the authorities after a court order.
German collections agency GEMA have reportedly won a temporary injunction against both RapidShare.de and RapidShare.com, according to a report.
However no court records have revealed any issued Rapidshare court order as of yet.
Currently rapidshare.com is not working but rapidshare.de is.
Users have been experiencing errors such as: "The following error was encountered: * Connection Failed The system returned: connection refused"
A Wikipedia entry was made that read: "As of 19 January 2008 16:00 GMT, Rapidshare AG’s servers were shutdown by anti-piracy authorities in Germany. More than hundreds of Rapidshare servers were seized from their offices in Berlin although no arrests were made. Sources said, authorities are contemplating pursuing legal action against users who distribute and download pirated copies of software and movies from these servers."
It was quickly removed.
Rapidshare.com, formerly Rapidshare.de, has been widely used as a vehicle for the transfer and sharing of pornography. Site such as HCMF.com commonly used the site as a means of perpetuating the illegal sharing of pornography.
A NSFW and EXTREMELY graphic example of its use (or abuse, depending on your view) can be found here. (you must be 18) As you can see, below the photo are the links to where the pieces needed to make one file exist (or existed) on Rapidshare.
Rapidshare.com, and Filefactory.com have also been abused by spammers, says Dave Marcus, security research and communications manager for McAfee's Avert Labs.
The "official" word is that the downtime is said to have been caused by a server overload.
Rapidshare technician Steven Gircham has reportedly commented on this issue - "There are rumors concerning attacks made on the Rapidshare.com servers. There are also rumors that Rapidshare has been shut down by a court order. These rumors are false. We would like to apologize to our users and inform them that no data has been lost. There have been some hardware issues as a result of high bandwidth and server overload. We are doing our very best to resolve the hardware issues."
you can still view the site via IP - 80.239.151.250
They either got DOS attacked, and are having trouble getting there DNS working or they want it to at least appear that way. At the moment, it would appear that they where NOT taken down by any "anti-piracy orginizations"
Story developing...
STILL its not working!!!! can't download anything from the site! hope it works soon
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I just uploaded there as well.
Now I know why those links didnt work today.. Hope they sort it out soon because theres alot of rom hosted with rapidshare
Since a few hours, rapidshare.com is down. But is it down? No Smile Just the nameservers. So .... you can fix it.
Just download following & input the content into your windows hosts file. Fixed.
(hosts: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)
Code:
http://maghia.free.fr/hosts.txt
If any problems happen, open cmd & input: ipconfig /flushdns
Enjoy!

Works like a charm! Thanks!
Thanks for the information mxantho, you're a genius, my downloads are working again.
And remember, you can edit the hosts file on Vista but you can't save it overwiting the old one.
Just copy your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file into the desktop, open with notepad, insert the rapidshare entries found here then save.
Remove the .TXT suffix and copy it back in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ directory
RS is facing some maintenance trouble. Everything should go back to normal in couple of hours.
The main Homepage is up and running... But I can't still download... I am gonna try mxsantho method
hope it works for me
tested it works
Rapidshare is back and running!
Yep just to confirm, downloading fine off rapidshare.
Well that was a worry over nothing, site ok and no problems here now.
Hi mrvanx how are things?

Incorrect Exif data

I've got a good one here. Recently I unlocked the GPS mode on my Polaris and with great excitement ran around taking geotagged photos of everything. However upon uploading to flickr I noticed that my photos were mapping incorrectly, with my latitude being "reversed" i.e. I am in West London, and my photos are showing up in East London. Therefore I tried a few other sites (google maps etc.) and some exif viewer programs and all of them confirmed that my exif data is being captured without the appropriate "-" sign when I am west of Greenwich. Does anybody have a clue about how to fix this?
The only way I know of is to increase how far West you are, once you pass the -1deg line it works fine, why the phone only applies negative values when below 1 deg W but anywhere above 1 deg W it works is indeed a strange one - Mike
Thank you for the answer. i guess that that is at least something I can keep in mind when I visit the U.S., or Ireland or something. It certainly is a good thing for HTC that only the 60 million or so people in the U.K. will be affected by this...
Locr
Personally I'm using Locr's (http://www.locr.com/) software instead. It also tags the pictures with geodata and you can optionally upload them instantly to your private and/or public albums online.
They have software both for Windows and Pocket PC/Windows mobile. Try it and see if it will tag the pictures correctly. If not, then it might be a problem with the GPS on the HTC's.

[Q] android postscript viewer?

I've looked around and couldn't find a viewer for postscript files. Is there anything around?
ghostscript is available under GPL, so I figure it should be possible to create something. Is there some legal/licensing obstacle I'm not aware of? Is there a technological obstacle?
This was asked time ago in the asus transformer forum, with no conclusion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483244 . As noted there, there is at least one service that sends the file to a server for conversion to pdf. Apart from the inefficiency and requirement for network connectivity, this also results in a pixellated version of the files (If there had been an option to setvery high resolution, the cost would be huge files). Normally, postscript images allow arbitrary scaling.

APN Database for new MVNO's

Hello, I'm posting this question here, since I haven't been able to find this information anywhere.
What I do know is that the default APN database is stored on Android in:
/system/etc/apns-conf.xml
I am working with a new MVNO who has a custom APN. We have already submitted the APN to be added to the Windows COSA database, however I have not yet been able to find a central database submission for Android.
1. How does this file get created?
2. Is it part of the firmware?
3. If it is to be changed, how do the operators and manufacturers come up with the entries for the file?
