Removable Apps on Moto G Stylus - Moto G Stylus (Moto G Pro) Questions & Answers

I switched to Moto G Stylus (unlocked) for the RAM, storage size, and overall quality, but I still find apps I wish to remove instead of disabling (they take up lots of space). I can use apkSharp, provided by another XDA forum user, for this, but I want to check which apps can be safely removed. Most apps have "google", "facebook", or "amazon" in the name. Oddly enough, I was able to rid the phone of the "facebook" app (though I'd like to see if it's truly gone). Also hoping that the apps aren't as connected/interlaced like samsung/google.
Some info in case if necessary:
model no.: XT2043-4
build no.: QPR30.80-58-8-3

[Q] Not enough storage message

Hello, this is my first post on this device's forum, I've had my first gen Moto G for like a month now, great phone, the only problem it has is it's lack of external sd storage, but I knew that when I got it, the problem is, and I think is an Android problem more than the device's fault, when there's around 500Mb storage left in the phone, it won't let me install any apps, nor with the store or manually, so my question is: Is there any way to lower the limit before the not enough storage message appear? The only method I knew of was using Link2SD, but since there's no external sd on Moto G, I wonder if there's another way to increase the amount of apps I can install on my phone, which by the way, I haven't unlocked or rooted yet, because I wanna do it after the Lollipop upgrade comes out, thank you for reading and helping me .
If you have a lot of media on the phone, you might free enough space temporarily by clearing the gallery thumbnails. Delete all files in /DCIM/thumbnails. They will get rebuilt over time or at the next reboot.

[Q] Run apps from USB-OTG?

Hello to everyone!
Like many other Moto G users (especially those that have 2013 8GB model), I'm in trouble with the low space issue: I have stored like 1,5GB of photos/video and I have installed at the moment 63 apps, between default ones and someone downloaded by me, which in total they occupy about 2,8GB . As you may know, since the capacity of internal storage is approximately 5GB I'd like to gain more free space without deleting photos, video or any other personal data, so I was wondering if it's possible to install apps on USB OTG devices, or at least find a way to let the apps recognize as OBB data path the external usb storage. I've read on the Nexus' section of xda-forum (this link) that it's possible under specific circumstances... Can it be the same for Moto G? I still haven't tried it because I'm willing to buy a pendrive, with dual connection USB/microUSB, as soon as possible.
Otherwise, can anyone suggest me a better memory management system? At the moment I have the original ROM (EU 4.4.4) not rooted waiting for the Lollipop OTA update
Thanks in advance to everyone who reads this,
have a nice day!
I was also wondering the same.
Unfortunately found nothing.

Moto G 2016 (16G) vs. Samsung J5 ... which one?

Hi,
My Moyo G 2014 is on it's last legs, gps dying on me while driving, battery almost always empty and I let it drop a bit to often, small chip in the screen. I use the phone for:
Custom launcher (Nova)
Navigation (waze)
Calendar (Business calendar)
Messaging (WhatsApp)
Parking (ParkMobile)
Email (k-9)
Facebook (only posting images)
Taking pictures to put in Facebook (Camera ZoomFX)
Oh, and once in a while, I get a call, say once a month.
Biggest issue I have, next to hardware failure, is that the device gets extremely slow, even after a full wipe and factory reset. Looks like the 1G internal mem is to little at the moment, even for those apps.
Reuirements:
cm 13 support
> 1G internal mem
microSD slot
Nice to have:
swappable battery
16 GB mem
Hardware keys
As both devices have the requirements, not all of the nice to haves is met by either device. Who has experience with either device with cm13 as a daily driver? Also, are there LG/Sony counterparts? Budget is 200 euro.

Several questions about XT1040

Hi, like two years ago I bought a Moto G XT1040 and it came with CM12. I installed custom ROMs before on my old Xperia X8 and I kind of know a little bit about it.
The thing is I wanted to make a fresh install of any Android 4.4+ ROM to be able to play Pokemon GO. My phone is slower lately, and I don't really know how the internal storage is so small... the phone says it has 5.52GB total space (which is weird btw, I thought versions were only from 8 to 16gb) and I only have 1GB free. I don't even have more than 85MB of pictures+videos in my phone, the only "big" apps I downloaded are Facebook Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Chrome, YouTube, ES File Explorer, Candy crush, Gmail and Neko atsume (lol). In total I have around 1,8GB on apps, the rest is like 1.25gb on MISC, is that the space required by the ROM alone or what? I install every app I can on SD, but still I'm missing space, is there any ROM where I can really install my apps on SD and free more space?
I don't currently have a USB cable in case of any "emergency", so I want to take a safe choice... something I can do by downloading the files into my phone and know that everything should be fine at the moment of installation. Sumarizing:
- I have a Moto G XT1040 (I thing it's LTE, supports 4G, not really sure). Rom: CM 12-20150126-NIGHTLY-peregrine (Lollipop 5.0.2). Kernel: 3.4.42-gfaa9160
- I want to do a fresh install 'cause it's slow and I need to free space
- I want to play Pokemon Go with it, so I need a 4.4+ ROM, what are good choices for this phone? I mean, something that can run fast enough
- Would be cool to have a stable version to be safe 'cause I don't have a USB cable right now
Oh and also, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this phone, 'cause I've only found things for XT1039... on the other Moto G forum (2014 LTE) there were more recent versions, so I'm kinda lost.
Thanks.

I can't download anything to my phone

Good morning everyone,
A few months ago I bought a new phone: a samsung Grand prime. I'm so disappointed in this purchase.
Despite the fact that I added a memory card, I can't do anything with this phone. It's saturated 24 hours a day. I have to do the following at least 2 times: settings > device maintenance > storage > cleaning) to be able to continue using it.
The only applications I have managed to download are Facebook, instagram, whatsapp and viber. Nothing really crazy though. I can't access my photos anymore (I can't open the gallery because the storage space is supposedly insufficient) even though all my photos have been transferred to the card.
Does anyone have the same problem? And if not, what brand, model will you advise me?
Thank you for your help.
My goodness you bought a really really really old phone.. If I remember correctly 2014.. Or was it 2013.
Things is this. Apps have evolved to require more processing power.. And require more storage and ram and processing power.
I'm not sure if this is a new thread or a really old thread.. Im just surprised you can still buy this phone brand new in 2020.

The apps that you listed are social media apps, social media apps are well known for demanding a lot from your devices hardware resources(CPU, RAM, etc). It is no surprise that your device struggles to keep up with demand with multiple social media apps installed, they are running constantly in the background even after you close them, they continually run in order to scan for notifications for those apps.
As for not being able to view your photos due to insufficient space. That may be because your device has a limited /data or cache partition. Even when viewing content that is stored on an external sdcard, it cannot be displayed unless it is loaded into your cache partition. If your cache partition does not have enough free space, it can't load or display the photo.
You can try partitioning your external sdcard to create a "swap" partition that acts as a type of RAM/cache in order to store actively loaded/running files/processes. This may give your device more "cache" to use.

Okay, that explains it, then, lol.
Unfortunately, it's a recent thread. I was on vacation in Africa, and I dropped my phone (oops). It was unusable. So I tried to buy a phone that wasn't too expensive and that I could still use.
I took this one at random, the salesman didn't really advise me either.
