xperia 5ii update not available - Sony Xperia 5 II Questions & Answers

Hey all, my xperia 5ii came last week and has build 58.0.A.10.3. i know a new update is out. my phone is factory unlocked. the update does not show on the phone or in xperia companion.
i'm in canada, sony no longers sells phones in canada. could this be the issue?

It seems 58.0.A.22.21 was released for Europe/Russia only.

i wonder if that means i'll never get an update as sony sells no phones in canada.
also if it goes by north america i might also be screwed as i have the dual sim phone.
maybe i just nee to vpn to the uk and try from my computer.

I am also in canada and am on same firmware. Presumably you also have the XQ-AS72 model? Taiwan version? I suspect we have to wait for a newer version for this model. I don't think location matters - I have tried VPN and nothing came up.

Here you can find what the latest build is for your device:

For sure you'll get the update for your version of the phone, its not location limited, no VPN is needed.

How can I confirm where my phone came from?
Seller said it's from the UK.

sorted it out, I have the XQ-AS72.
Seems it's the HK version.
HK version says the latest is
58.0.A.28.25
Not sure why the update is not showing up.

Is this generic (customized) HK version (that one should get the update) ?
Or carrier specific ?
You can check details described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/how-to/guide-how-to-check-sony-customization-t3520538

I've missed that.
XperiCheck says the latest for HK is 58.0.A.10.3, the same states xperifirm

so the XQ-AS72. sim free 256gb version, is only available in HK, Taiwan, and japan. guess it will be the last on the list to roll out updates. i'm ok with this as the extra storage is worth it for me.

Same, the software is stable enough that the updates don't really matter

I don't get it. I'm in the Netherlands, Vodafone as provider. My model is Xperia 5 II (XQ-AS52) and have build# 58.0.A.12.23. And security patches of 1-aug-2020. According to xpericheck https://xpericheck.com/device/XQ-AS52 , Vodafone should be on 58.0.A.22.21 and security 1-10-2020.

I bought the 256 gb model... it shpuld be the model for HK or TW markets...
Model is XQ-AS72...
Firmware is fix on 58.0.A.10.3. No update avaible!
Security patch 1 August 2020
I have a problem with proximity sensor during calls...
The display flickers as if the proximity sensor is jerking...
Big problem because new call starts...
I hope that Sony will release an update asap.

Please make sure your thumb is not touching the fingerprint reader while answering. (this happened to me initially)
This would trigger an unlock event while the proximity sensor is trying to "lock" the screen, creating a cascade of conflicting events.

I have had my 5II (EE UK) for about a month and it's already been updated twice. Phone is an XQ-AS52 128gb.
Latest update was 58.0.A.28.25.
Does anyone have any experience of Sony and how often they update phones?

Xperia 5 II is new device and usually it will take some time for the rollout of updates, as probably development is busy with US rollout (just guessing) and more than just security patches need to integrated (e.g. some bugs of initial releases).
For a sample of update history you may check Xperia 5:

mate 9 c636 update question

Sorry if this has been answered before
I have a c636 for a little more than a week now.
I am not in Malaysia though... Actually in Trinidad and Tobago
Would I get notifications to update via system update here?
Reading the posts here I see some say i would need a Malaysia sim card... But others don't.
Right now I'm on b158 (phone came with this installed)
Any clarification here would be much appreciated
I've always used a T-Mobile sim in the United States and I've gotten updates without C636 region sim.

B172 just published on Mar 16 but OTA rollout depends on which country SIM. Only Huawei knows
My past experience if you're on Malaysia or Taiwan SIM you may get OTA update notification within 1-3 weeks.
I'm in Singapore but I used my Malaysia prepaid SIM to get OTA updates coz the Singapore SIM usually almost the longest before getting OTA updates

Would it have worked for you with your default Singapore sim if you just waited?
The rest of us with the c636 in the West were a bit in the dark with that to do.... Especially with this strange funky update method
Thanks again
Yes but for whatever reasons Singapore SIM update is always much longer than Malaysian SIM. That's why I usually use my Malaysian SIM to check and download OTA update
B158 is the latest official update
B172 is latest official since Mar 16.
Just a matter of which country SIM that Huawei choose to schedule the OTA
I don't really mind waiting a couple of weeks for an update. So long as it's not addressing some critical security flaw anyway. I just hope they keep bringing them on a regular basis and don't just abandon the phone once they release a new model.

Which Firmware is best for US Unlocked XZP G8142 to enable fingerprint unlock?

Hey guys. I recently bought a US unlocked Sony XZP from Best Buy. I want to flash the right firmware to enable fingerprint. Take a look at the list in the screenshot. For G8142 Dual Sim, there are lots of options available. I am not sure which one is best to flash. Have any of you guys tried and if so, which firmware? Thanks

If it's available for the this model then I see no problem in doing it. If you find something not working you can flash back to the other firmware.

That should be fine if that's the firmware you prefer.
Also any particular reason or advantages that you are planning to flash that over CE1 or others on the US model?
Nothing as such I'm just trying different region firmware other than CE1

not by default, but you can download it and it works. I use mine all of the time
Which of the firmware available is best aside from CE1? It seems to be the slowest to receive security patches :/
The Customized FR one seems to get updates pretty quickly, but the CE1 hasn't been that late recently, it was only a couple days behind this time I think. I ended up using the combination of US and CE1 because I couldn't get group messaging to work with CE1 or FR with android messages.
Which files you mix to make.this combination? If i flash a Ce1 it keep going in auto reboot.

OTA updates outside of intended region?

Hello good people of the XDA forums,
I live in Canada and recently ordered a Galaxy A51 off of Amazon, only to find out it is apparently the Latin American version of the SM-A515F variant. Using my Canadian sim card, will I be able to get get OTA updates on this phone from Samsung or not? If it comes to it at the end of the day, I suppose I could live with manually updating with Odin (how that works I have yet to find out), but I'd definitely not prefer it. As of this moment I'm still stuck with the December 1st security patch and version A515FXXU1ASL1. I got this phone just this Friday and didn't even receive an update as I was setting it up, which certainly worried me.
Also, and on a related note, because this is the Latin American version, NFC is disabled. Is that something that could be changed as well/be fixed in the future?
Thank you so much for your help y'all

I definitely haven't gotten any updates. Is there any reasonable reason why I'm not getting updates but you are? I'm with Public Mobile, if that makes a difference. Would it have something to do with my sim card? The country code on my phone is TPA, which from what I've seen is the Latin America/Panama model.

Oppo From these markets IS a GLOBAL (2025) dual SIM with 512GB

There are many posts scattered around with this information, and people asking about it. So i prefered to regroup this here.
So YES it is confirmed, the only places to get the OPPO Find X2 Pro 2025 , Global WITH Dual Sim are in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapour (waiting for more information if other countries have them)
It's nearly impossible to find a place to buy it online, so you need to find alternative ways like http://www.parcl.com to get it, and it will come out more expensive.
Be careful on the JD.com site from Thailand as it has various versions of the phone.
Also apparently Oppo is big in Thailand and they have shops in Bangkok, so it's easy to find (apparently the Black one is out of stock, but the Orange one can be easily found).
One member here posted this as proof, and it's thanks to him we were able to find the truth!
Oppo FInd x2 pro screenshot
I'm also interested to know that. Did you flash the EU / UK Firmware on the Thai Model with no issues? Strange i thought the Global 2025 variant all have the same firmware. But now thinking of it; as the Thai model is the only Dual SIM 2025, i'm very curious to know what differences there are... as if there are not many, this is going to be interesting to see if it's possible to port it to other 2025 single sim Models.
Could you please enlighen us and tell us the differences between the two models?

Yes, you are right. i miss understood at first. 1 SIM can have 5G, the other is 4G. If you switch "SIM2" to 5G "SIM1" will have 4G max.

* The function will be available on the 5G Live Network. Depending on the service area of the network. And software of certified devices It will be able to support the 5G function when it is upgraded via OTA and when the network used is ready to provide service.
meaning it doesn't support 5G currently since it is not necessarily deployed in that region but they will bring functionality via OTA...
To note, currently 865 snapdragon has 5G limitation to 1 SIM only and is being worked on currently to be patched... this is for all phones... you can either rock dual sim, dual 4G, 1 SIM 5G and 1 SIM Standby. Someone in previous post has the phone in hand and could answer better. The limitation is not Oppo's issue... its googles and Qualcomm. This is why USA OnePlus 8 Pro is currently only 1 SIM and EU OnePlus 8 Pro only supports dual sim 4G.

Yes, I'm able to flash EU firmware and Global firmware back and forward with no issue.
EU firmware is less bloated with no theme or OPPO browser app. However, my purpose then was to get May patch cause the global rom .17 was pulled at that time.
But I'm back to .21 Global now.
If we flash it from global to EU, something might not work properly. You have to do data wiping once and everything will be fine. But that is not the case when you switch to global firmware from EU firmware.
And for the question about flashing. Yes, I did flash everything via its recovery.
Ok great to know!
Where did you get your "EU" firmware (source)?
Also, you confirm that the dual SIM is still on when you flash the Firmware (it can happen that in the UI or partition the dual SIM is not written in the code. Thanks for your help.

I'm using PARCL...
its a buying and forwarding service... basically, you find something on the web... for example, the thailand version of the Find X2 Pro (I used the recommend mobile company site that Oppo recommends on Thailand site, believe its AIS)...
Copy the website url and total price and some additional details like color, capacity, etc.
Go on PARCL and follow their instructions (its fairly intuitive)... You basically make a request for someone in that country that forwards for PARCL to buy it for you then ship it to you in your home country... think of it as a personal shopper.
You pick from different forwarders in that country... some new, some experienced, etc.
They review and message you back that they will agree and will give you a price for their services + shipping. For me with USD conversion, it made the phone around $200 more expensive... considering I didn't have to pay tax and I choose the option for them to manipulate the customs info (basically they send as gift as opposed to purchase, helps to avoid tariffs, aliexpress does the same thing) Its not the greatest deal but I am getting a phone in Indiana from Thailand and didn't have to fly there personally...
You pay the total fee (phone cost + their service + shipping) all together with paypal. This lets it be under buyer protection... so even if there's a scam.. you can get your money back for the most part from paypal.
Then basically you wait and stay in contact with your forwarder...
for me, mine should reach him Friday then ship after that... about 12 hours ahead.... then he will take to DHL and ship to me... Will have it in hand next week.
They will typically take a picture when they have it in hand before shipping to you as well.
I mean you could probably hop on a plane and get it yourself faster... but that fairly fast.
This is my first time using the service... its fairly legit... like anything, it has good and bad ratings... but with using paypal for payment... it keeps you protected as far as getting what you ordered... I'll let you know once I get it to give my full recommendation and I will even give my forwarder's name so you can look for him if you decide to go that route...
Unless you know someone going there.... I could not find a store shipping overseas.... plus, how legit is it to give over your credit card to a shop in Thailand or Malaysia??? really? This sounds like a much better "safer" method to me! :good: :fingers-crossed:
I already have the Malaysian version .. if there is any questions I will be happy to help .
I'm on 21 version.

According to Samsung its not released in UK as its carrier dependent even if you purchased it through Samsung directly.
I have told them I'm not happy after being told will get regular updates and these are supposed to be every quarter at most.
Absolutely disgusting that purchasers are being treated like this still.
It doesn't support Volte, does it?
