Any 120hz working games for the Oneplus 8T ? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

I tried a couple games altos oddysey , bullet force and dead trigger but none of them show the option for 120hz. I have show refresh rate enabled in developer options and it shows the games at 60hz. Why is this phone like this unless the devs for the game have to add this phone to there list. if thats the case then 120hz is only for social media which is good but i want it for games as well that should support it

check it and you re right . found a paid app AutoHz that seems to have profiles for all apps. if anyone has test it, plz share.
i also came to the conclusion that the "dynamic" refresh rate, its not so dynamic. even if you have the ambient display (always on) the rr its 120. this means that you drain your battery fast all day.

found it. the game is called vainglory and the counter shows 120hz

you are referring to autohz yes ? so if you make a profile for a game at 120hz it works? even if the game previously was playing at 60 ?

63Hz refresh rate causing major stuttering in all locked 60fps apps/games/emulators

Hey, so i recently tried Retroarch on this phone and noticed some stuttering in everything i try to play with it, i then looked through the settings and apparently the OS reported refresh rate said it was 63Hz, I then tried the calibrate refresh rate option and that said it was 63.4Hz. I've tested this on several other apps/games as well that have a locked framerate, and to my dismay, they also stuttered about 3 frames every second.
This is a pretty major issue for me, because everything looks and feels very unpolished and it's distracting to me. What i wanna know is, if it's possible to force feed the display 60Hz, and if the display would even handle it properly without any doubling or skipping of frames. If any of you have a solution for this, I would be very grateful.
Thanks.

I'm having this same issue with my phone as well, and it even effects flappy bird. I know its not the most serious issue in the world but for games that require fluid motion and somewhat precise timing, such as emulators or flappy bird, its enough to make me stop wanting to play the games altogether. Does anyone know why the phone (Oneplus One) runs at 63hz and is there any way to change it or somehow fix the issue with video stuttering in apps on phones that run at uneven refresh rates, such as 56hz, 59hz, or 63hz?

Did you ever find a fix? Everything on the phone is flawless, its just the stuttering is the only thing bugging me!!

3rd party apps lack of 90Hz support

I've been finding that some 3rd party apps lack 90Hz support. Most disappointing of which is Samsung Browser. I would think that screen refresh rate is independent of apps but obviously the phone is detecting something with these apps and saying "I should render this at 60Hz". Has anyone found a workaround? I'd love to use Samsung Browser but it's hard to go back to 60Hz. /firstworldproblems

apps do not have to do with the refresh rate. Perhaps they have low frames per second which could be improved by disabling ads or some other tweaks

Wrong. Apps do need to add support to show 90 frames.

I wouldn't say so. Might apply to some games. But not to standard apps at all.
The only apps that need support are games

Sorry If that was misleading. App developers need to optimize the app so It calculates every frame faster so it has time to show 90 fps on 90hz displays.

You said I was wrong and then supported my point. I also said frames could be improved but not refresh rate, which is a different thing. Apps display as a chain of images per secods. which is FPS. Refresh rate (Hertz) is a mechanical function of display that dictates how many times it refreshes a what ever is on the screen, image video, just single picture etc.. regardlessly if app has good or bad Frames.
You can look at a single picture at 60 or 90Hz but not at 60 or 90 fps because its just one image or one frame. Reading is a big tool

This is wrong. A poorly performing app and screen refresh rate are completely independent of each other. With this phone, the entire screen is switching to 60Hz with some third party apps. This makes the app less smooth as well as the OS in general (e.g. pulling down the status bar to view notifications). I really hope OnePlus fixes this soon, as it defeats the purpose of having a 90Hz display if it keeps switching to 60Hz.

There is nothing that developers of standard apps that use standard framework (not NDK) can do as there is no public API for that at all.
There is abstraction layer and apps do not need to deal with things related to physical capabilities of the screen, such as display refresh rate.
OnePlus already uses some auto switching logic for refresh rate, e.g. during video playback. The thing is their implementation is currently not perfect as they seem to be switching
to 60Hz even for videos not playing in fullscreen mode. So e.g. when you scroll FB and video comes into view, screen switches to 60Hz which is not OK (the same applies to web packages with embedded video).

Force an specific app to run at 60 hz, but maintain 90 hz for everything else.

I just got a 7 Pro and I'm wondering if there is any way to run a game at 60hz and the rest of the phone at 90hz.
Pokémon Go internal game logic is tied to the framerate (the game runs at locked 30 hz) and OnePlus magic sauce that forces the game to run at 90 hz break the game mechanics. I have to spin balls twice as fast to throw them, etc.
I'd love to run everything at 90hz but just the game at 60hz.
Thanks!
There is already posts about this and I made a tasker option for it. Look through guides section.
Glad I'm not the only one! I switched to 60hz just because of this reason.
Download Tasker from playstore
Here is the profile I made so u can choose what apps you want to have set to 60Hz, it will Switch to 60Hz on apps you choose and once you exit the app/game it goes back to forced 90Hz.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/tasker-90hz-60hz-refresh-rate-app-t3944865
It worked perfectly, thank you for the profile, and thank you for linking the thread.
Linking it wasn't that hard, surely.

FPS in games

I can't seem to get any game to play at 120 fps on my Note 20 Ultra. There's really only 1 game that I have that is capable and I generally can't tell a difference unless I really state and look for that extra smoothness but I figure I have the phone it should do what I want. My S20 plays subway surfers at 120hz according perf z but the Note does not and I can tell (barely but I can). Anyone else have any issues?
Edit: not sure if it's because it's adaptive refresh rate vs full time and so the games don't sense 120hz and so won't run at 120fps. If that is the case 120hz would be a true gimmick, lol.
Same here. Even the games that supposedly are 120hz run 60hz. Some say it is because the games are not utilising some Samsung compatibility api. I've tried also, as suggested, disabling game optimization. Still @ 60hz

I've tried 5 games that are supposed to run at 120fps but none have been successful. So the one true advantage of battery sucking 120hz isn't an advantage at all. Nice.

Well games that I like to play that do not work include brawl stars (only 90 but still plays at 60), subway surfers (I got this to play at 120 on my S20 ultra), and critical ops. I also tried random games on the play store including bullet force and some other random one...none of them played at 120. I did, since my last post try a game that finally did display at 120 fps according to perf z. But it's not a game that would have ever played. Wish there was some consistency.
What app are you using to show fps. Mine shows 120 for games. 60 for maps

At this moment, there are like 50 games that supports 120hz. I only tried injustice and it goes till 120 fps
It's on optimized, adaptive smoothness on and no adaptive power saving.

I use game plugins tools, you can find that on galaxy store and in game plugins, there is a toggle for perf z which is basically an overlay that shows CPU, GPU consumption, FPS & Temp

Oddly, I couldn't use it about 2 weeks ago. I could use it last week. And the. I restarted my phone and perf z is greyed out. Strange. Haven't updated the firmware. Not other changes in settings. Just says not compatible.
Edit: restarted phone and it works again.
Same here. I downloaded alto and It works on 60hz only. What to do to force 120hz?
Same here. I also can monitor ingame fps with the PerfZ-App, but in every game it shows a maximum of 60 fps. In Subway Surfers, the fps-bar goes up to 120, but it's half-full all the time at 60.
Another weird bug is in Archero. Every time when i'm not moving and there are many particles on screen, the GPU turns off completely (the GPU utilization-bar shows only "-" instead of a percentage) and the fps goes to 0. When i touch the screen, it rises instantly to 60 again...
I tried disabling the Game Optimizing Service and the Game Booster App with package-disabler, turned every power-saving mode off, tried to reinstall the games i tried (A LOT), even did a hard reset. All i can do now is to wait for an update that hopefully fixes everything... I'm losing my patience with this phone...
BUT: C.A.T.S Crash Arena is the ONLY game, that runs in 120 fps on my phone...

My games don't show 120 either.
Very weird

I already tried that, there is no difference in any games. Every game besides C.A.T.S cap at 60 fps...
Make sure this is off

Question Can the display be set to 120hz as well?

Thanks!
In games yes. Outside of games no.
Ok, so it's a setting in the Game Mode (or how it is called?). I add an app in there and it runs at 120? I need this option for Retroarch emulator, but it can not be set @120 inside the program.
You add the app to shark space that gives you options on screen refresh rate. It won't force the app itself to upscale to that FPS tho.
