anyone know how to restore a mediapad t5 back to factory? or unbrick? - Huawei MediaPad T5 Questions & Answers

i have a Canadian Mediapad T5 AGS2-LO3
and im stuck booting only to twrp
i have been able to get to fastboot using the hisuite factory software
but im limited to dead slow internet right now so have not explored that.
anyone have a factory twrp image bakup they are willing to upload i can try?
(always backup dammit)

I have a backup of my AGS2-W09 (0CEC432) but I'm afraid it will not work.
How did you got it stuck?
Did you tried installing LineageOS 16 (from OpenKirin website) by any chance?
I have a TWRP (twrp_mate9_0.1.img ) made by Pretoriano80 but I could not backup the data partition without errors ... most likely because of Android's File-Based Encryption being anebled on this device.
I want to disable FBE to enable adoptable storage (as my model has 16GB) but I need a custom ROM like LineageOS.
Thus I am tempted to flash it
Thanks in advance!
PS: might want to check out another similar thread: link

Plug your tablet into current, press vol+ & pwr btn and it will appear the 3 option menu from the "unlocked device" message. Just keep pressed vol+ until you boot into eRecovery. Just recovery the system and then you'll restore literally all from your tablet (you'll do the unlock process again).

I also have the AGS2-LO3 variant.
And I cannot find a original huawei full recovery image.
Huawei MediaPad T5 (AGS2-L03) official firmware
Huawei MediaPad T5 AGS2-L03 official firmware (rom - Flash File) all build with direct link for free
huawei-firmware.com
There is only one update image in the official site which there are 200 or so for the L09 variant.
I am scared to mess with the firmware now and there is no way I can reflash it if something go wrong.
I tried
fastboot boot twrp_mate9_0.1.img
but it gives me error. Not sure why, this command works for my pixel.
And I cannot install magisk because there is no boot.img to be found.
Anyone can shed some light on how can I do it?
I think L03 is probably the current variant they manufacture as the firmware is from 2021 rather than 2019.
I have already opened up the back cover and unloaded the bootloader.

Just install a compatible twrp. P8 lite 2017 should work but I recomend you to use the one in my guide for installing LOS18.1 Don't use commands, just use vol+ & pwr button WITHOUT connecting it to anything. If you want stock recovery, just download it from here pal.

Thanks ..
I might as well post this here -> -> How to: Root and repair data on the FRD-L04 - B320
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70266853&postcount=262
Will android pay stop working even if I use the official beta 7.0?
Thanks man, but is there any successful way to flash B324 so far?
Is Wi-Fi calling enabled in this beta?
Managed to do the same using Charles app (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...-to-nougat-t3510275/post69885525#post69885525) without any unlocking and flashing.
I have the FRD-L04B567 phone. I installed the TWRP for the Honor 8. I have installed a different ROM (CM13.1 ROM) successfully. I followed your instructions to the "T" in post #1 . The install of update.zip stopped at /cust with an error. I tried wiping and rebooting but am stuck in the "honor" bootup screen. Unable to force back into TWRP or fastboot or ADB at this time. Still picking up the pieces....
UPDATE: I forced phone into Huawei eRecovery screen and selected factory reset/wipe That got Nougat running but there is no keyboard and Google will only allow voice for any input. Since my wifi is encrypted, I cant give Nougat a password to get on the internet. I am creating a temporary unencrypted network to see if I can get further.
UPDATE: TWRP was wiped so I will reinstall. Then I will try update the regional update (second update mentioned)
UPDATE: Reflashed TWRP 3.0.2.0 for Honor 8, I can get into the bootloader but not recovery, eRecovery works but...(worthless). I cant flash the second update.zip because I cant get TWRP started. Obviously 3.0.2.0 is not compatible with Nougat, I may try 3.0.3.0? why not...
UPDATE - Flashing TWRP 3.0.3.0 was dumb. Now ADB sees the device (good) but I can not get to bootloader or recovery. TWRP flashes (displays) once a second and will not start (bad) . Hopefully someone can learn from my quest.
So, can someone help me proceed from a state where ADB sees the device? thanks Maybe extract update.zip?

Thanks for the reply, I finally got TWRP 3.0.2.0 for Honor 8 flashed (but now it won't work), I believe Nougat and TWRP aren't compatible. Huawei Hisuite said that phone was fine and recovery not necessary??? I disagree. I think I will have to wait for TWRP that is Nougat compatible with FRD-L04

If you want to get back to any working state, i recovered from 7.0 unbootable to vanilla 6.0 like so (for frd-l09, but probably still applies):

// edit, also for completeness, i then flashed twrp 3.0.2 (official) and installed the cm 7.1.1 from the other thread here. All working fine.
fuflo,
thank you for your reply, it helped me get my Honor 8 back up and running.... I am now running CM 14.1 and Nougat 7.1.1 on my FRD-L04

Look again in the thread closely, you'll find another script to go to B320
Same problem as above, I could flash the update.zip, but not the USA package, maybe I didn't have the right TWRP version?

Bricked Honor 8

Hallo all,
I’ve bricked my Honor 8. I’ve tried to fix the “failed to mount ´/data´”
problem (if i remember it right) by changing the data format with twrp
3.1.1.0 from F2FS to ext4 back to F2FS. After that I got “failed to mount
´/cust´ - ´/vendor´ - ´/system´ and ´/product´ (invalid argument)
What doesn´t work to unbrick:
The HiSuite sytem-recovery – system is not supported
The Huawei – eRecovery: after connect Wifi: Package not found - Package data failed (something like that)
Rollback to Android 6.0: works - rebooted in eRecovery mode and changed emui to "cant connect to Wifi".
ADB fastboot:
Trying to flash the
- boot.img (works)
- recovery.img (works)
- system.img - > FAILED (remote: spare flash write failure) WHY?
The dload-method:
trying the Stock Rom Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L09_Android 6.0_EMUI
4.1_C432B131_Western Europe.zip – chrashed at 5%
Would be very thankful for help.
Update
After a lot frustration and my last hope to send it to a repair service I remembered the first problem, when i´ve tried to install a custom rom with the error message that includes: “This package is for: FRD L09….. blabla. THIS DEVICE IS EVA” EVA stands for Honor P9.
So I´ve tried to install “HUAWEI_P9_Firmware_EVA-L09_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1.1_C432B182_Western Europe.zip” with the dload-SDcard method.
And…. it works. So, now I’ve a Honor 8 that says “I’m a P9”
Can please someone explain what happened to my smartphone and is there a chance to install custom rom or stock based on Honor 8? :cyclops:

Basically twrp took over the recovery partition, so erecovery couldn't do it's thing and activate wifi what you can do is use the rollback package, then flash the regular recovery (from the full package) and use that to fully recover your device.

I only can use the rollback package from the Honor P9 und i´ve did. But it doesn´t change my phone back into a Honor 8 rom device and doesn´t reactivate the WIFI.
I think you are right and twrp_3.1.0. changed from LRP to EVA. There are not many steps i´ve done. I´ve unlocked it and flashed twrp. But why and how and how change it back to LRP?

Alright. If I were you I'd try something, download the emui 4 full package for the honor 8, use the update extractor to pull recovery off of it.
Plug the phone in and hold power+volume down to access fastboot, and flash the recovery image, now use the roll back honor 8 package or see if you can flash the regular honor 8 package with dload.

hey bro , he said "he is in EVA" and FRD firmware wont work on the device, he had to rebrand to FRD to dload firmware.

Mate 9 OpenKirin LineageOS 15.1 WiFi and Bluetooth stopped working.

So everything was working great until two weeks ago when a few apps updated and my son installed some games on my phone. Now WiFi and Bluetooth won't toggle. Every now and then it works but not for long and I am hoping its corporate policies update that went wrong. I tried to reset the phone by reapplying my ROM but now my recovery sector won't toggle with volume up and power. When I tried to fastboot reflash over everything got all jacked up. I think my recovery backup is corrupt. Now I randomly can load the OS. Downloaded a full ota ROM for my phone but some stuff has changed since I did this last and I'm really turned around. Using a spare iPhone atm and I miss my android apps.
My phone is on an oreo treble ROM format but I can't seem to get it back to pre error status. I'm turned around about which tutorial to try and don't want to brick my phone using the wrong guide. I'd like to go back to openkirin lineageos 15.1 or better yet any stable pie 16 ROM. Alternatively back to emui works as well.
Could someone please direct me as how to proceed?
Its starting to come back to me a bit. I downloaded the right OTA_FULL region version of my product type.
MHA-L29C567 - US Firmware Download from the following link
https://pro-teammt.ru/en/online-firmware-database/?firmware_model=MHA-L29C567&firmware_page=0
This file MHA-L29C567B377 (8.0.0.377) MHA-L09C567B377 (8.0.0.377)
Used Huawei UpdateExtractor to pull the following img files from the Update.app link in the filelist.
System.img
Ramdisk.img
Recovery_ramdis.img
Kernel.img
Flashed the device from fastboot using the following commands
fastboot flash system
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash kernel KERNEL.img
Now I can enter recovery Volume Up + Power and do a factory reset but the process never yield a working phone it gets to the boot screen and keeps looping.
Any advice from the forum from where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. I just want to return to stock to see if there is a hardware issue with the phone and the WiFi and Bluetooth. I've read guides for returning to stock but the process I believe is for a Nougat ROM and I have a Treble (OREO+) harware partition structure.
Can someone point me to the proper guide?
I'm back.
Edited: missing link and grammer
I figured out how to fix my phone after reading this article
https://************/unlock-root-brick-recover-huawei-mate-9/
I'm replying in the hope to help anyone else with a US C567 Mate 9 in the same predicament. I'm using Stock OREO 8.0.0.377 EMUI with the Pixel Launcher found here:
https://huaweiadvices.com/download-android-p-launcher-apk-for-huawei-emui-phones-pixel-3-launcher/
Section on Unbricking in particular but also adding Custom TWRP recovery and re-branding the phone is what I used. My bootloader was already unlocked which I believe anyone else in this predicament will need to have as well to add TWRP. Process I followed was as such;
1) Installed Custom Recovery TWRP
2) Re-Branded the Huawei Mate 9 to Firmware C636 up to step 8
3) Then I used the Huawei eRecovery to connect my phone to Huawei's Servers and it connected downloaded and installed the appropriate ROM.
4)Updateded to the latested patch and all is corrected with my WIFI and Bluetooth as well.
So my wifi and bluetooth issue came back and I'm all but convinced at the point that the issue is with thee hardware. Really a shame I reset the phone and I'm at the stock and OEM rom at this point for my use model but nothings aside from Mobile data works. I guess I'm in the market for a new phone.

Need to upgrade but have questions

Hi guys. I rooted my phone after purchase about two years ago using https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mate-9-decrypt-data-t3569986
I am still running the same version now
Twrp
Model: MHA-L29
Build: MHA-L29C567B183
EMUI: 5.0
Android Version: 7.0
Any one got suggestions and steps to get to a newer version. I think I need to switch back to Erecovery etc but if someone had some exact steps and a good version to move to would be great. I had thought about installing magisk but my main concern is being able to run games like Pokemon go or Mario kart and they seem to be detecting my root. Not even sure having root is worth it anymore.
I installed stock recovery and did ota updates.. working like a champ!

Did you really flash TWRP to eRecovery? It is possible but people usually (specially if not installing Magisk on EMUI 9) flash TWRP to (EMUI) Recovery - which is not the same as eRecovery
So, do two tests:
- switch off
a) disconnect any USB
- press and keep pressing Vol+
- boot by Pow
In test b), do the same but with the phone connected to charger.
If it boots to TWRP in case a), then you flashed TWRP (as usual) to EMUI Recovery.
But if it boots to TWRP in case b), then you really flashed TWRP to eRecovery
If you have stock eRecovery, then in case b), once booted to eRecovery, do not accept Install latest or Factory reset, just Reboot or Shutdown
---
If you rooted by SuperSU, find an option like Full Unroot, or google for and find a zip for TWRP for unrooting - do unroot
Maybe, there are similar options for unrooting from phhSuperUser
Do not accept any OTA yet - if it comes
---
Install Firmware Finder app (from Playstore or from its thread on XDA).
Open, it will show firmwares for your MHA-L29C567
Scroll to the bottom to find your b183. Must be FullOTA-MF or FullOTA-MF-PV (2017.03.22)
Download its update.zip file, copy to PC, unzip to get update.apk - open it by Huawei Firmware Extractor (find its thread on XDA, read how to use it)
Extract Recovery.img (if you need to restore stock Ramdisk) or Recovery2.img (if you really need to restore stock eRecovery)
Extract also Boot.img
Flash Boot.img to Boot and Recovery.img to Recovery (if restoring Recovery), from TWRP or from Fastboot (similarly as you flashed TWRP from Fastboot back then)
Or, flash Boot.img to Boot and Recovery2.img to eRecovery, if you need to restore eRecovery
Now you should have stock Recovery and stock eRecovery - both tests a) and b) must not boot to TWRP
Also, you should have stock Boot - boot to system, check with RootChecker - there must be no more root
----
Have a proper SIM card and WiFi connection, go to Settings, System, Update, go to its menu and take the option to get Full OTA package
If it doesn't give you OTA update, boot to eRecovery (option b) as above, phone connected to the charger) and take Install latest firmware and recovery. Follow by Factory reset, only then boot to system
If eRecovery also fails to update from b183, you can try to update by HiSuite - it has also an option to choose installing a firmware
---
If it still fails to update, you can download by Firmware Finder b190 FullOTA-MF-PV (2017.10.31)
Download both zip files, do not unzip, copy them as downloaded to DLOAD folder on SD card (not Internal memory)
Switch off, press and keep pressing both Vol+ and Vol-, then boot by Pow
It should update to b190, and hopefully you will start receiving OTA updates for Oreo and Pie (must have SIM card)
If not - to be cont.

Help Rooting

Spend the whole day looking through websites such as Magisk and TWRP as well as bunch of YouTube videos. I have unlocked the bootloader via DC Unlocker (Paid $4.50). For the most part, I have Magisk Manager installed but have no idea how to get Magisk itself installed via a boot image from their website.
Specs on Magisk shows Ramdisk: Yes, A/B: No, SAR: No.
Skipping that part, I did try a few of the img files on TWRP for Huawei Honor 8. Used the Minimal ADB and Fastboot steps. On the last step to "adb reboot recovery", it gets stuck on the loading screen and never reaches the TWRP screen. Any idea?
My end goal is to only use this phone for spoofing on Pokemon Go. That's all.

After many more hours of trying to follow up guides, I did get TWRP recovery to work and to get there I always have to use the command on ADB. Following another guide I did get SuperSU to install. Then the bad news was Pokemon Go doesn't work with SuperSU and only Magisk. Though I haven't been able to get Magisk to work prior to trying SuperSU.
Then I tried Magisk-v23.0.zip again and I got the TWRP 1 Error. Probably the only way to fix it would be to unroot SuperSU and then try Magisk again. Not sure what I did next but phone keeps automatically booting into TWRP recovery (unable to boot to regular ROM, I did not backup or know how to backup).
Looking through the ROM forums with no experience, I assumed I just need to flash any of the ROMs for Honor 8 and then restart and see if I can get Magisk to work. Unfortunately, I tried a few such as: ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.7.4-20170106-frd, aicp_frd_n-12.1-UNOFFICIAL-20170704 but none were flashing correctly (I think something about MD5).
Unfortunately, now when I boot up phone (see the "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" screen), then it stays pitch black. Usually it would start up the phone afterwards or in the recent case was directly to TWRP recovery. I sort of gave up for now.

Some of the roms for Honor 8 does not give like a custom Vendor partition. You should use this rom
[ROM][7.1.2][OpenKirin's RROS v5.8.4 For Honor 8 ][ Update 12/08/2017 ]
Resurrection Remix N v5.8.4 For Honor 8 (FRD) > Officially Supported Devices : FRD-L02,L04,L09,L14,L19,AL00&AL10 < *** Stable Version *** About Resurrection Remix the ROM has been based on LineageOS, and including some...

Make sure you download the one that says "Full Version" 5.8.3, because it installs a custom Vendor partition.
Make sure to Format Data before installing.
Also after installing, you should press the button that clears "Dalvik Cache" so that you do not get stuck in boot logo.
Also to disable Forced Encryption so that the "Data" partition does not get encrypted when you boot the rom so that you can backup "Data" partiton, install this after installing the rom:
[Deprecated] Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disabler [11/2/2020]
Hi all! For the past couple of months, I've been looking into making a more universal solution to disable dm-verity and forceencrypt. Needing to take different zips, modify them for different devices, and then cross your fingers when you switch...

Thanks. I will have to revisit this another time. Since my phone was stuck in a loop after trying the other ROMs, I tried the eRecovery by Huawei and now it's just stuck on the loading screen. I think it also completely wiped out everything so I have to unlock bootloader again. I forgot the steps as well besides having the unlock code through DC Unlocker (I watched some video for this step but couldn't find it).
But either way, it's just stuck on loading screen. lol Frustrating to root just for Pokemon Go.

Okay! I also would recommand saving the bootloader code, just incase DC Unlocker stops working.
I think that "download latest firmware" button in eRecovery might download the android 8 emui firmware instead of android 7 emui firmware.
I think that the first boot takes a long time on EMUI, is really stuck in the loading screen? Maybe you have to wait maybe 15-20 minutes for it to boot.
I think that you did not have to restore using eRecovery, the roms that you flashed might have edited maybe the boot, vendor and system partitions. And that could of been fixed by flashing the RROS 5.8.3 full version because it edits all boot, vendor, and system partitions.

Yes, I actually did save the bootloader code, I just don't remember what I did / the steps to unlock the phone.
You are right about the 20 minute wait. After waiting for 20 minute, it allowed me to factory reset everything (Still Android 7.0).
I see. I have no idea about these ROM stuff and only you responded since last Wednesday. lol
So my steps should be to:
1. Unlock the bootloader again (I need to try to find the steps)
2. Install TWRP 3.1.1.1
3. Try to flash Magisk-v23.0.zip (Haven't been able to get this flashed for some reason)
4. I think there's another step called Smali Patcher or something, this was in the spoofing guide for Pokemon Go (Haven't gone that far yet to try)
So I actually probably don't need the RROS 5.8.3 ROM. I think.
EDIT:
I unlocked bootloader flashed the TWRP but TWRP recovery doesn't pop up this time. Hm.

When trying to boot into TWRP using "Power + Volume Up", make sure that the phone is not connected to the charger, or to the computer. That might be the reason why TWRP mignt not be popping up.
After that, TWRP should boot up.

Thank you. The Power + Volume Up worked. Got Magisk installed. Just haven't figured out the last steps to get Pokemon Go spoofing to work.
