Anybody tried 8T with GCAM? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used the OnePlus 8T with GCAM? If there are possibly some examples or even a comparison with GCAM and the stock camera app? Trying to decide between the 8T and Pixel 5. Some pics I like 8T, some pixel, but if GCAM improves 8T even more I would probably opt for the 8T. Thanks

I just ordered a OP8T and will try to get GCAM to work on it and then post the results here

I'd say that it should be possible mod gcam for op8. Almost the same hardware.

OnePlus 8 port works only for primary sensor
I tried a gcam.port on my new.oneplus 8t, It works pretty well for most part..except in portraits where skin looks super sharp and the retouching function won't work. I'm still taking portraits on my OnePlus 3 gcam mod where it works like a charm

Does the gcam pretty much make the 8T's camera taking capability (on the primary camera) the same as the Google Pixels? Or are there still processing/coloring/speed differences?
Camera is pretty important to me, but I hate that Google is charging a premium price for mid range specs. So if I can get the 8T's camera on par with the Pixel (primary sensor is enough for me), then I would go with the 8T.

Imho you will get better pictures, because newer GCam mods (like 7.4) support full 48MP.
So you will enjoy both full Google software magic and a better camera.
I use GCam Mods on my OP3 and OP8T and booth have amazing results.
Just the OP3 needs up to 30 secs of processing time after 2 pictures, while the OP8T needs about 1sec for 15 HDR pictures to combine

I'm sure there are many phones where aux cams work and they will also work one 8T, but now, they don't.

I should have been clearer. Pressing the 2x toggle on my OP 8T allowed me to use the wide angle lens. I was just specifying that I used the Nord config file.

I did not go on a camera hunt so far, please stand by. But with the few pictures I took it's realtime. There could be a small lag, but it's not like seconds. I would wonder if there is really a lag, since Pixel 5 has only a 765 and no neural core, so they have 1/2 to 1/3rd of processing power of the 8T.
Still I have to take 10 photos in a row in different conditions.

EDIT: Never mind, the phone on the stand was hard to notice
Is everything else working including slow motion? And is there any lag compared to the unmodified systema's camera speed? Cause I've experienced those in 7.0, and a lot of crashes

I worry that the Pixel camera is not optimized for the Mi A1. Are there any comparison shots to see if there is a difference in picture quality?
PS: I know that I am suggesting that the current camera app is optimized, which is a little ludicrous if you consider the low light performance

The current stock (A1) camera is a king in daylight. Both rear and Portrait ... But in low light its not. Pixel camera won there. .. For example if u like to take a Portrait shot in extremely low light in A1 then Pixel Camera will help. With Flashlight also....
I don't have any comparison shots now. But i can tell u its worth. 200% worth

This is great news, thank you! It makes me hopeful that the low light performance in the vanilla version of the A1 will improve significantly with software updates... fingers crossed
This is Epic! It's wonderful how Google proves to be a portrait maestro without dual cameras!!

Fails to load on Codename Phoenix - with Google cam already installed.
Is this worth installing? Any improved features etc?
It starts and is able to capture pics on OOS OB2, more than GCAM so I'll give it a try.
Works flawlessly, except video recording in normal mode.

Mi Mix 2S Camera Question

I'm heading on vacation next week, and will be taking a lot of pictures, including many in low lighting. I'm currently on a custom ROM using GCam, but haven't been impressed with the camera quality.
Would I see a large increase in quality if I went back to MIUI and used the MIUI camera? I haven't done any direct GCam to MIUI camera comparisons so was hoping for some opinions.
It depends on the version of gcam you are using but in general , i use only stock ... I have both and when a new version of gcam comes out i test it , and i find out that it is very unstable , takes a lot of time , etc ... Night shots , better on manual mode in miui camera app
Camera Quality on MIUI
Miui has improved camera quality, i encourage you to test it and let us know what you think about it.
To my current knowledge our stock Miui camera is far more better integerated than any other camera app out there.
But still compare your current photos with mix 2s photos from the net and if you dont notice any issues then you are good to go !

I've been using the GCAM app in the above link and it is frickin awesome. I also own a first gen Pixel XL, and pictures with the GCAM app on a Moto 7 power is comparable. I would almost say that dynamic range is better on the Moto 7 Force. The only thing the Pixel XL does better is faster HDR processing. If you take a bunch of HDR pictures in a row the Moto 7 Force may bog a bit. But not a lot. I have not had the app force stop or lock on me yet.
The GCAM app is far and away much better than the stock camera app. I completely removes the fuzziness and/or blurring in low light. Trust me, I have young kids and this app allows me to take really good pictures of them. Before using the GCAM app, it has been really hit or miss.

I've found that default settings are rather aggressive. I've toned down the total frames to 4 as to avoid stretching and tearing. In the camera, click on More and then on Settings, then on BSG MOD Settings, then HDR+ Parameters. The MIN and MAX frames define how many frames the camera stitches together to create the final picture. I have mine at 4 and am happy with it. In low light, you can get better results by using more frames. However, you will be waiting a LONG time since our camera's don't have dedicated Visual Core image processing unit. If you have max frames at 10 and take 2-3 shots in a row, the phone will lag the images are created.
Play around with it and have fun!
Which is the latest you're referring to? I get confused with so many different versions.
---------- Post added at 11:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 PM ----------
Actually after testing out several different versions, there's some weird blurryness/focus issues going on that I'm not experiencing with the regular camera app. I don't know, I'm very disappointed, pictures are still better with the main app ehh.

gcam

Anyone please try gcam on OP7PRO & SHARE samples from both stock as well as images captured from gcam please
Check out this post in the Q&A section: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/gcam-mod-7-pro-t3930459 That seems to be where most of the activity is for gcam.
Did some comparisons here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/camera-comparison-gcam-vs-stock-t3931423
All seem working well exept the front facing camera where resolution is 4mp and 12 in portrait, also in portrait mode some underexposure and lack of focus.
I pm Arnova with same info, hope will have a new version soon.

I made an xml to go with it.... Just place it in GCam/Configs then open gcam double tap the space between or below the shutter button to apply it.

Tried using your config.the color profile seems pretty good but the capture speed is way to slow.

Then lower the frame capture rate... It's gcam.... And it will only be slower like that in low light... With the way I have it set you will get good quick captures outdoor and slower but better quality indoor or low light situations without needing to use night sight.
how do you get playground working..i don't see that option?
Got everything to work with your setup but is there a reason the back cam is set to 8.3 megapixels?
Pics come out too Cool
So, I've tried these different mods, and while sharpness is better with them, I feel like the colors come out way too cool and not true to real life at all. Complete opposite of what I get with my Pixel 3XL. Anyone experiencing the same, or perhaps has gotten a GCAM mod they are really happy with?

Here are some example I took on my OP7P. I used gcam and stock camera. I have to say that the stock camera is pretty sad.
I love the phone, but I am very disappointed in the camera.
The night photos were taken with Nightsight on GCam and Nightscene on stock.
GCam seems to come out much cool indoors, not staying as true to the colors sometimes. Stock is definitely not capturing the details.
