twrp android 10 - Moto G8 Plus Questions & Answers

I speak Spanish, I'm sorry if I'm wrong, I have managed to root the new Android 10 by patching the boot, but I have a problem, I can't install twrp on Android 10, has anyone been able to do it? And how did they do it.

No TWRP for Android 10 yet, we do need more developers for this phone.

Probably saw it already, but just in case: see this thread. Will install through magisk.

Android 11 (LineageOS 18.1) & TWRP

I installed LineageOS 18.1 (Android 11) on my OP7P and want to boot (or flash) TWRP.
There is a lot of different information about the state of TWRP on Android 11.
I hope someone could clearify the following questions:
1. Does TWRP [3.5.2] support Android 11?
the release notes of 3.5.1 state that they "prepared a mini release before Android-11 support."
The release notes of 3.5.2 don't mention android 11 at all.
There are various people in the LOS18.1 thread that can boot twrp, so I assume there is some kind of (partial) support.
2. What if 'fastboot boot twrp.img' doesn't work?
For me I can't boot (or flash) TWRP (on LOS18.1).
So as the twrp/lineage os guide says I do:
fastboot boot twrp.img

It finished succesfull, but my phone stays in fastboot and doesn't reboot.
The TWRP guide says the following:
If fastboot boot command doesn't work you need to root your device and flash the TWRP installer (remember that flashing the TWRP installer you will lose the root).

I find this a very vague description; what do they mean with "doesn't work"?
(when I flash twrp it results in an unbootable phone, might be related to a/b partitions, but I have not enough knowledge of that)
3. Does TWRP work on encrypted phones?
I found various posts that suggest that TWRP doesn't work on encrypted phones.
I can't find any reliable source that supports that statement.
Twrp says this, but that doesn't clearify things at all.
I hope someone could give me some answers, or guide me to some reliable source so I can find it myself.
I find the documentation of LineageOS and TWRP lacking in that perspective.
For question 1, there's no official TWRP for 11.... YET.
Question 2 - I'm thinking cause TWRP doesn't work for 11, that's your issue.
Besides that, if your trying Android 10(because you don't mention what version your using in question 2), I would suggest re downloading, as that process works fine for this phone I'm typing this reply to you on.
Question 3 - I'm sorry, I've got ideas, but it's above my pay grade... So no hard knowledge I'm comfortable calling advice, to give a fellow OP7P owner.

I also think there is no official TWRP for android 11, but twrp doesn't make this very clear in their docs.
Multiple people are claiming they are able to (at least) boot twrp on Android 11.
LineageOS 18.1 is Android 11 (but I will clearify the post).
Thank you for your reply
there is now a working TWRP version for Android 11.
Nebrassy version: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-11-unofficial-teamwin-recovery-project.4289455/
worked for me with 'fastboot boot TWRP-3.5.1-guacamole-Nebrassy-3.img'

Why doesn't OP8T OxygenOS recovery do much?

It looks like the OP8T OOS recovery doesn't really exist. About the only things it will do is wipe data or reboot to fastboot or system. No sideload.
All of the android devices that I own I have rooted as well as installed new ROMS on them and they had at least a basic recovery. Why doesn't OP8T OOS have a recovery like most any basic android OS? I really don't understand especially since OP has been very user-oriented in dealing with it's fan base. It appears the LOS recovery has these basic features. I expect other ROMS built for OP8T have a working recovery. Is there something unusual about the OP8T?

With the move to the A/B model, you now flash updates directly in the running system. So that functionality is no longer required in recovery. Which leaves just factory reset and fastboot as the two functions you can't do while the phone is still running.
Thanks. How do you install a new ROM then?

You use the custom ROM's recommended installation process.
You flash images, after unpacking them, with fastbootd.
So if you wanted to go back to OOS stock ROM from a custom ROM, you have to use the MSMtool? Did Android 10 or 11 or OOS change the partition structure for the OP8T? When and why did payload. bin become the container for the img files that used to be directly in the zip file? Is this all about the introduction of the seamless update and the a and b slots?

Have a read of this: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/ota/ab
Note that the OnePlus 8T uses this method - it even gets the updates from Google's servers.

Question Magisk-generated patch of ArrowOS boot.img has 0Bytes and cannot be flashed

I'm new to custom ROMs, but I've made it through with an ArrowOS install on my Poco X3 pro thanks to this fantastic step-by-step guide by urbanman2004. I made it all the way up to step 14/d of the guide, which is where I'm running into this problem.
I believe I followed the guide precisely, except for two things:
I already started with an unlocked bootloader (I unlocked it before I found the guide). The general method of unlocking bootloader was the same, but I might have deviated in some of the steps, I don't really know. I don't suppose it's relevant to my issue, but just to be sure...
I downloaded and flashed VANILLA distribution of ArrowOS instead of the recommended gapps one, because I want to use microG instead
So now I'm stuck on point 14/d - patching "boot.img" and fastboot-flashing it... The system seems to be installed and fully working. But when I patch "boot.img" from the VANILLA build, the output file has 0 bytes in size and cannot be flashed, due to this error:
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-22100_LijmZ.img
Sending 'boot' (0 KB) FAILED (File is too large to download)
fastboot: error: Command failed
So my questions are:
1. What is it that I'm trying to do in this step, anyway? The OS seems to be working fine - is this re-locking bootloader again, or something of that sort?
2. What can be done do to debug/circumvent this issue?
Thanks a for your help, it will be much appreciated!
hey i believe that guide is a little old. You can use latest TWRP recovery.

Oh, so points 13+ are fpr rooting the phone? I see, I don't think I need that... I wanna use the OS with MicroG (installed via NanoDroid), plus apps I acquire via Aurora store... no need for root for that, is there?

In need of assistance

Good evening ladies and gentleman
I unlocked the bootloader of my OnePlus 6, and installed TWRP. However, I got the stuck on the TWRP screen, so couldn't get into TWRP recovery .
I'm on OOS 11.1.2.2 or something like that.
Question: is there a TWRP version thats compatible and works?
iF No, can I just relock the bootloader, considering that I have not rooted the phone, or loaded any custom roms?
tHank's in advance
Did you try this one?

Does TWRP (officially) support Android 13?

TeamWin's official website doesn't say anything about Android 13 support, besides the fact that they're starting to work on that.
However, I've found a few guides and posts on here that said that TWRP does work on devices running Android 13, right here:

So, which is it? Does it work, or does it not work?
By the way, here's a side question: how do I port TWRP to other devices?
By nature TWRP is a Recovery, means a basic separate Android OS, it is independant of Android version installed on mobile.

what about development, then?
TeamWin's page on compiling TWRP doesn't say anything about Android 13, except for the "Android 12.1+" part (I guess? I'm assuming that the plus symbol means that the source code will work with all devices with Android version >12.1 here).
