My phone has crashed 3 times since installing 12.0.10 half a day ago. - Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Questions & Answers

What is this garbage update? I'm using a different app every time so it's not the app.
Phone just goes black in the middle of me doing something for no apparent reason.
Custom ROMs can't come fast enough. MIUI has had garbage tier stability for me.

What version are you using? I had no issues on the stable Chinese stock or the last weekly EU ROM, 20.9.3

yeah there's something on your phone that's doing this. Both my Mi 10 Ultra and PocoF1 are rock solid

And yet the same apps worked fine on previous versions and on my previous two phones I had.
It's obviously miui, just because it's an incompatibility with an app doesn't excuse MIUI when MIUI is the cause of that instability. That's like blaming someone for their car exploding from a factory defect because "if you hadn't used it exactly that way it wouldn't have blown up". We should expect better than this... Not blame people for problems with MIUI.

Explore your options. EU 20.9.17 is running fine for me
If it's Chinese I've said it before and I'll say it again: you're importing a phone not meant to work for the west. You should be prepared to do things right.
I'm not interested in an argument, this is not my opinion. This is the reality of getting this phone perfect.
You have a lot of freedom now. If you want to shout at someone for the state of MIUI itself, well, Xiaomi.
XDA is about getting the most out of devices. Trust me. When oaranoaud android or similar come along I'll be on board.

Will xiaomi mi mix 2 roms work on 2s?

I haven't gotten my phone yet ordered it Saturday shipped today so 3 weeks I wait. As I wait I was wondering if the roms that are available on the 2 would work for the 2S and vice versa? (I have the 2s coming) I heard mostly same hardware just different cameras and wireless charging not sure much more has changed. Thanks for your input can't wait to root this phone and use it daily
No they wont work. However most of the project treble Roms work for our phone
Nope - use the available MiMix2s ROMS
Thanks to both of you I'll look into Project Treble Roms when I get the phone. I want the phone to function as intended and have root and a decent skin from the looks I'm not liking miui maybe i'll change my mind when i get it. Probably use Nova launcher but will want to root it anyway so thanks for your help.

I've had the most success with the Benzo Treble ROM, but I've heard others talk about Arrow, Havoc and Pixel Experience.

You won't! Trust me!
I'm dreaming of a pixel experience pie rom. This would fit my needs the best. I don't really need all the customisation some of the roms offer although I must admit they are great and the ideas behind them are really cool.
The treble roms are pretty stable by now and daily driver ready IMHO but the MiMix2S isn't very popular as it seems so not too many devs out there building for this device. Maybe this will change in the future, until then I'll stick with the benzo and pixel experience roms.
I agree
Miui should die
I don't agree with you both I owned a 1+1 for more than 3 years and flashed a new rom every month or even more often. When I got the Mi Mix 2s I had to use it with miui for 2 weeks because of bootloader unlocking time(this is the most stupid thing I ever encountered). I'm on miui since then because I LOVE the gesture control and mostly it just works. As soon as we got a rom with gcam that supports slowo videos I will flash an aosp based rom too to test it but to say MIUI should die or he will hate it is too much. It's working fine and is full of features.

I think it depends on your individual needs and what you expect from a rom.
I too think that miui should die. Xiaomi is producing great devices regarding the hardware. But if you force your customers into using your own ROM (even if it is only the bootloader unlocking time) then this should work perfectly fine and fluid. Read the comments section in the miui forums or here on XDA. It's full of bugs. Every time they release a new version something else is broken.
If I'd like the look of iOS so much I'd get an iPhone. It's neither looking original nor behaving like a finished ROM. For me it felt like a developer version. So many bugs and not even the simplest features worked correctly.
I couldn't care less for navigation gestures or slowmo video (although this is really a nice feature), but I'd like to have working Bluetooth hands free, stable network connections and the possibility to connect to an airports WiFi. None of this worked with miui. At least not for me. And that's the reason I switched ASAP to a GSI. Those were the longest 15 days of my life.
Of course the 8.1 versions worked much better as Pie was just released and many things had to be sorted out. But some of the Devs here did a much better job in developing stable and well functioning roms than the miui team.
So in my opinion MIUI should just die or at least they should reduce the stolen/copied functions and concentrate on the main features and make them perfect.
To me it seems they concentrate more on the looks of their OS than the functionality.
But I don't want to start a debate of principles. If you like it use it, I will never return to this abnormality of an OS.
Whats this about waiting 15 days or 10 days for unlocking bootloader? Going to do some googling about it but figured I'd ask that sounds annoying if its the case.

Yes it is and you can't do anything about it. It's Xiaomi's way to prevent their phones from being delivered with malware infested roms as it's too much of a hassle for the shops to unlock and install it.
I hated it too. You're lucky that it's only 15 days and not 720hrs like some have.
I don't understand it because if you get the phone with a not certified or custom ROM from a shop that looks suspicious you could simply install the original Xiaomi firmware without the headache.

Well that's the ones that know a lot more about phones. I can see how this makes sense well guess I'll have to test out xiaomi's rom for the duration. The phones expected delivery is Friday but only a state away so hoping FedEx will be nice and deliver it a couple days early lol.

In the meantime you can set up your Xiaomi account as you will need it for unlocking you phone anyway and request the unlock permission.
As soon as you get the device, bind the account to your phone so the time starts counting down immediately. Then it's only 15 grueling days using MIUI but then there's a whole lot of roms which make the device what it should have been from the start. A stable, fast, reliable and good device!

rom development for pxl3

Haven't had a g phone since nexus ended.
How fast has rom development happened on previous pixel?
Coming from p20 pro and honestly this is the least excited I ever been for a new phone ??*
But exited to rom flash ?
As the prices for the Pixel phones have gone up, it seems the development for them has taken longer to ramp up. However, if you look at the 2 XL forums you'll see plenty of ROM, Magisk and kernel options. It just took a couple of months to really build.
I imagine it will be the same in this case. Over the next couple of weeks you'll see a ROM or two trickle in, along with a kernel or two. But give it a 2-3 months before things really start to scale up.
Also keep in mind that Android in 2018 is NOTHING like Android in 2012, or even Android in 2016. In stock form the Pixel with Android 9.0 is missing very little to be desired and is very well optimized. So I find myself enjoying it thoroughly in stock form until a good high quality kernel comes around. But the days of ROM flashing are behind me, for the most part.

Wow. Not what I wanted to hear and remember from the nexus days. Memory is getting foggy but I felt like kernels and ROMs were out BEFORE release of the devices..
Either I remember it wrong or the scene had truly faded ?
At this stage I almost feel like getting an iPhone for the same price with better memory management and faster app delivery.
Crazy thought ?

It's not so much that the "scene has faded". It's more that Android has come a long way over the past couple of years. The big features people used to have to root to get are now baked right into stock Android. I'd argue that this is actually a great thing for Android. In fact, again referencing the Pixel 2 XL ROMs, you'll be hard pressed to find any ROM in that sub-forum that offers much more over stock Android other than being 'debloated' (as if the stock ROM has much bloat to begin with...) with a couple little features here and there.
Don't get me wrong, there are still solid reasons to at least unlock the bootloader. For instance, custom kernels like Franco or Elemental X still provide notable performance/battery life improvements over the stock kernel. And those should start becoming available for the 3 XL within a couple of weeks, if the timeline is similar to that of the previous Pixel line-ups.
And many people still love to tinker with Magisk modules for various add-ons. I don't do this, personally but Magisk is already available and if modules aren't ready yet, they will be shortly.

To each their own. I had a stint with the iPhone X between my 2 XL and OnePlus 6. The build quality of that phone is simply phenomenal. The speakers are fantastic and the haptic feedback engine is on a different level. But IOS is still just as locked down as it has ever been. I just couldn't get myself to fully enjoy IOS so I moved back to Android pretty quick. If you're looking for a phone that you can root/tinker with, the iPhone absolutely is not a good option for you.

That's the beauty of Android. Choose your own setup. And that is why I am on android. I miss way to much customization to enjoy the vanilla experience.
I know this goes against the common sense but almost like emui more that I am on my p20 pro. It's bloated but it has RAM to handle it.
Truly miss the madness of the xposed booming too. Now there is hardly anything worth or at least very limited reason to go exposed and risk stability..
Haven't been on ios since 3gs but the walled garden was the reason I left. I know it hasn't changed but since I am staying more and more on stock so that's why I am thinking ios ??*
Just a guess....
Now that root is here, I'd guess two more weeks till TWRP drops.
Three weeks before custom stock ROM's start to show up.
And five-six weeks before the first beta non-supported Lineage OS ROM shows up.
Seven-eight weeks before the first non LOS custom ROM shows up.
Two and a half months before a really special, kick-ass fully-optioned custom ROM shows up.
Three-four months till a supported LOS ROM drops.
Like I said, just a guess.

Coming from OP6 i didn't even feel the need to flash a new rom.

Anyone use Pocofone without unlock and root? Strangely, I am.

One of the main reasons I bought Pocophone is due to XDA support. Never have I used a smartphone without unlock and root.
I could not wait for trying all those roms and kernels out there. I used all those Magisk and Xposed modules. Always trying many tweaks and tools. It was more of an addiction.
But using Pocophone a few days changed my mind. It is fast, smooth and battery lasts long without applying tons of tweaks. MIUI is great as well. It offers solid app controlling features. I have used tons of roms and do not see the need for replacing MIUI. Why use others when MIUI is very decent?
I know I can still root it, tweak it, make it better but I do not see the point as it is already superb. If it weren't those banking apps, I might have decided to unlock & root just for the sake of it but what would be the point then? It would just cause unnecessary complications with banking apps.
So I decided to use it as it is. Not even unlock. But man, it sure feels strange as I am new to this.
Same here, I used to geek around with my previous Oneplus phone, but with this Pocophone I've also decided to keep it as it is, and try to use it as long I as can, and only when they will stop updating it, then I'll look around for some ROM with newer Android version, but for now l'm fine with the MIUI ROM and the Gcam app
It all depends on your usage.
If you want privacy you have to root and install a custom ROM.
But if you like getting spied 24h from many companies at once, then you can stay as you want.
What to say ... if you're happy, that's what matters
I am using MIUI with few modifications ([ROM] [PIE 9.0] [MIUI] AMBASADII POCOPHONE F1 [v1.5.2] [03.02.2019]) is the beta version of the official MIUI rom, I use modified kernel(Sphynx) to get access to my external HDDs, I have no problems with bank apps, whatsapp among others as others complain, so I'm happy and I own MIUI that I love very much, with the resources I need.

It's not only about your likings. It's about your personality, your psychological situation, your health and there is also about the things your children would concern in future. It's like getting profiled in many ways.
You are just looking at the basic things, but big companies data mining allows much more than that.

What's there to not get it? Banking apps detect unlock and root then FC. It is not specific to Poco F1 but with other phones I've used, the need for unlock & root was greater than losing functionality of banking apps periodically.
I used to root and custom ROM when I was young.
Now that I'm old. I just prefer stable official ROM.
Besides, custom ROM is a software cant make the processor , ram, storage , optimization improvement that's so great that deserve the mod.
If u want something better and faster , get the latest hardware .
Too many custom rom . U never know which 1 is good or stable till u try it all
Well this is new age
If you said were true, then why would there be robust custom development in the first place? Why would kids ask which kernel and rom reach 300k antutu with 12-hour battery life?
You should try if you are free. It's not like in the old days wherein rooting is hard and not as worth it as now. Plus, MIUI is a giant bloated spyware.
I know your feel bro.
My 72 hour wait is done, so I can now unlock. In fact, I could have done it over a day ago, but I've sort of just thought.. What's the point, do I really feel like doing this again?
I probably will unlock and maybe root eventually, but I'm currently on the fence right now. It used to be exciting when I was younger, but now I'm not really sure.

I would suggest that you try xiaomi.eu rom, It has all the the things that make miui good and removes the bad (system adds, etc) and adds some extra features only available in china versions of miui (AI preloading).
I am still on stock. I haven't used stock roms till now and this a new experience to me. The main thing i rooted in my earlier phones was to install a modified hosts file to block those adverts. Now I have AdGuard i do not feel the need for root. But still when the official support end I will root and go for custom rom .
Same thing happened to me, first with the Mi A2 and now with the poco which replaced that one. Haven't felt the need to even root them and doing it for the lols doesn't cut it anymore. You value your time more as you get older (and have less time to do meaningless crap like this) so I'd just rather have a phone that works. Every time I've gone into custom ROMs in the past they've never been quite stable, there's always been something or some annoying thing that has made me constantly switch between ROMs with all the bs that goes into that.

I have used Pixel Experience with a different phone but did not find it interesting. I preferred other roms like AICP and RR.

Did OP abandon this phone?

This is my 2nd OP phone, first was the OPO. Couldn't believe how much life I squeezed out of that phone, and by most accounts OP has been good about keeping their old phones updated and usable.
Instead we've had broken Android 10 on the OP6 for months. Did something change at OP? Between this, unstable TWRP on the 7t, and unlocked bootloader issues with the McLaren, it seems like they DGAF anymore.

Its always a good practice to factory reset after a major update. My brother's Galaxy M30 was lagging after the recent Android 10 update but factory reset made it fine again. So maybe it might work for you as well

I'm rooted but did a full wipe incl. data when I upgraded. Had the same lag, battery drain, brightness and keyboard issues people have been complaining about with the latest stable release. Toughed it out for 2 weeks before reverting back to 9.0.9. It sucks because I don't want to give my headphone jack or my rear fingerprint sensor, and definitely won't be sticking with OnePlus if they cannot be trusted to keep a 2 year old phone properly updated. I have not tried any of the beta versions.

You cant blame OP if you have rooted the phone. Once you mess with the original rom then its on you. I have clean beta official ROM and it works like charm.

This is a stock ROM. I never mess with custom ROMs on OnePlus devices. And the mere fact that I'm using TWRP and Magisk should not break the UI. It never has on any other phone I've had going back to the HTC Evo 4G. On every other phone, stock performs the same whether or not it's rooted. If that's no longer the case with OP then that's another reason to reconsider paying $6-700 for their phones.
Not sure.. But Oneplus literally screwed this device with their Android 10 update.

You might add that TWRP doesn't have anything to do with the ROM, and Magisk is fully systemless, so without active modules, this shouldn't be able to break anything ...

This. Bump!
I even didnt try update to 10...
Rarly came here due lack of interesting new things....except Gcam....
Happy with 9.0.9 and period. Root + TWRP + xXx rom for ViperSound.
Everything works, don`t touch more.
But i really feel OP already left this device to abandon......such a shame.
Or, due to many models, the team is the same with lot more work, anyway we all suffer lack of confidence in them. Or at least me.
Camera, sound =piece of crap
I think all you cant complain about Op support. Say me which brand dice you Active and fresh support on devices older than 2 years.

I don't understand what is your expectation when you say OP has abandoned this device? They worked towards providing Android 10 update, but it was your choice to not to install it. People reported bugs and stability issues in Android 10 update, and OP has worked and fixed many of them, and they are still working on it (been using Android 10 since beta and at current state, very much satisfied with it). But is not beneficial as you have chosen not to use it. If you like using rooted ROM with mods installed, and if your expectation is that OP provides you the mod functionalities in the ROM (if that's what you expect), that doesn't mean they are not working at all on this device. If you are happy with older ROM and do not wish to upgrade, then I don't understand why complain about OP not providing anything new?
Camera and sound are not up to the mark, for Camera, even with GCam I don't find the image quality satisfactory. And this is a major drawback of this phone, and only solution is to buy a phone from some other manufacturer, like Samsung which is better in these aspects (at least that's what I could think of for my next purchase)
Apologies if I sounded rude anywhere.
I'm running the first version of Android 10 that was released and the only issue I have encountered is the black screen while trying to unlock the phone. That's easily circumvented by just pressing the power button to turn the phone off and then back on and done. I've had this phone since launch and it has by far had more updates than any other OnePlus device that I have owned. I have been a faithful customer since the OnePlus 3 and I have owned every device since
OP here. 10 3.1 fixes nearly every issue I was having with Android 10. I'm rooted and running the latest TWRP and having no issues at all except for the space under the keyboard, which is an easy fix. Furthermore it looks like a lot of the issues I was having were with Android itself, not OOS. In any case I hereby withdraw my criticisms of OnePlus' handling of this. Great work, team.
I will also add that I recently acquired a OP7Pro, and while it is a great phone, Android 10 is just as glitchy and 98% of the time it does not feel any faster than the OP6.

Flash PixelExperience in Redmi Note 7 Pro without VOIDING Warranty

Is there any way to flash PixelExperience in my new Redmi Note 7 Pro without VOIDING the Warranty??
Pls help me out if there is a way.
Thanks
Your warranty is not void if you unlock the bootloader officially . You can root it without any problem. But be careful while using the phone , if its your mistake that you damaged your device, Mi may not be able to repair under warranty.
I have used the service of Mi under warranty more than 3 times and my phone is unlocked and rooted. But they were different scenarios and i don't see these cases of my negligence. All were hardware issues which can be seen normal in many locked devices too.

Well today, now i am on xiaomi.eu, 2 hrs before i was on cesium os. But i get back to xiaomi.eu cause i like it as i like miui and this rom removes bloatware from miui and add some tweaks too.
So overall its good more customized miui.
If you ask which rom i have used till now in violet
RR, PE, CESIUM, MIUIPRO, HAVOC, ION, SUPERIOR, CRDROID, DOT, OOS(PORT)
Overall most of the roms i have tested both android 9 and 10 (most have both versions and tested both). But came back to miui cause my requirement was not met as i needed inbuilt call recording and app lock, fingerprint, facelock.
I hate external ones cause they don't work upto the mark and can't compete with miui in this case(from my point of view)
There are new ROMs being built daily but no one cares to add something new, just one or two tweaks and will change theme and add or remove some functions and will be released with a new name[i am not hurting anyone] but seriously its happening i can take the names of roms which are almost same but names are different cause developers are different. You will also see many roms will have same bugs too. [eg. Network Switching]
[I fully respect the developer's work and their hard time committed to our phone's development.]
Yeah, miui.eu has been my daily driver since trying out many roms from my RN5 Pro days. In terms of stability and functionality, miui.eu rules. Cant understand the popularity of Pixel Exp, its a crap rom in comparison imo. I guess people just want something different and thats why they go for it.

Agreed ,but a huge reason why these ROM's win over MIUI is basically Performance and a clean UI. The Pixel exclusive features help a lot as well. Also the lack of custom kernels for MIUI is a factor. Well using Magisk+EdXposed you could get the same level of app lock and call recording...

Yes, but i am using miui.eu, its working smooth and playing pubg mobile, never get any lag , moreover the magisk+xposed can compete miui call recording but applock of miui is far better as its fully integrated with system whereas other applocks are not much secured compared to miui one.
Pixel experience is a good rom but you can see the no. Of roms being released with mostly same features but different themes but instead of this 2 or more these developers get together and make one rom with combined features. As it may also be less buggy.

Yeepp. But I disagree with the applock statement. We don't know what sort of protection MIUI uses whereas apps like MaxLock is open source, consumed negligible battery and gives you 512 bit encryption along with various advanced options if needed.

Okay, i haven't used it but most of the applocks ,will work when the app has been opened and it will be shown for some milliseconds and then it will draw itself over the app.

Oh that's why this one uses EdXposed/Root. It detects the launch of specific apps, rather than running all the time and there's no way to bypass it.
But there are some troubles running it in Android 10.
That's why i use miui? because if one problem is solved there is another problem which is ready to raise
Safety net
As with xposed safetynet will not pass...

Moreover i am confused why mi has not updated violet rom yet. Its almost 2 months now , no weekly china update.
Most of the phones has got 20.x.x developers update but violet is left behind till now.
May be they are ready to give Android 10 surprise?

While Pixel roms gives clean UI, Miui.eu gives all the perks which other custom roms miss. I'm in same state as of OP as I actually need Call recorder, and App lock so miui.eu is the best choice. Its smooth, stable, bug-free. I can clearly compare 2 phones, one with stock miui and other with eu rom, EU win hands down any day. I haven't yet found a custom rom with all miui perks and pixel ui. I will happy switch if anyone makes that.
