Purchased Edge and returned it - Motorola Edge Questions & Answers

tl/dr...received broken new phone followed by flaky replacement. returned moto edge.
Purchased edge from moto, overnight free shipping, received it and out of the box it wouldn't boot past the moto logo. It would show the logo, vibrate and then turn off. I put it on the provided charger and cable, it would show the charge logo, vibrate, go black for a few seconds and then repeat the logo/vibrate process. I could get it to boot into recovery so I thought that using Rescue and Smart Assistant tool might get me going. Hooked up a cable, ran the tool and ran rescue. After rescue (with cable plugged in and connected to the computer), it would reboot and come up. Success, or so I thought. unplugged it and everything was still good. Battery showed 60%. I used it for a bit, restored my backup. sent my wife a text and heard her phone ding so I thought it was ok. Remember it is unplugged at this point. I rebooted and it was back to not booting again. couldn't get it to charge (charge logo/vibrate repeat). I hooked it back up to the computer and ran rescue again with same result. Called Motorola and after several transfers finally got someone who could help get me a replacement. I just needed to pay for it again so they can ship me a new one. After I expressed displeasure they dropped the price of the replacement to $333 which they would refund once I shipped it back. I agreed and waited for the shipping notice. Finally received that and noticed that instead of overnight the replacement was 4 business days. strike 2.... received the replacement phone and it boots up and appears to work. I made and received calls, sent another test text to the wife and heard the ding. The phone was fast, the edge was neat for a few minutes but quickly wore off. strike 2.5.... I sent my wife and a couple of co-workers texts during the day today and never heard back from them. I asked one of them about it they said that they had been texting me all day and I wouldn't respond. strike 3 but we'll keep going along for one more. I am on Verizon. Checked my account and noticed that they still had my old phone listed with the old IMEI numbers. I contacted support and explained that I could send but not receive texts, could make and receive calls. We tried a different sms app with same results. I asked him to check the account settings and to look in the IMEI issue, they asked for the new IMEI number and after several attempts said it wasn't in their system and that they couldn't activate it. strike 4... it is boxed up and I am back to the g7.
To be fair, I probably could have gotten the phone activated with a call to higher support but something was off about the phone. I don't often regret a purchase but I did this one.

You have to change the set the prefered network to lte/cdma/evdo/gsm. After that open messages hit the 3 dots top right corner touch settings then chat features it will the verify your phone number. Phone is set to gsm/lte from stock. Use 4G LTE app from play store.

[Q] Charging & USB Storage Problems! Faulty handset?

Hello all,
I purchased a Nexus S from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, actually two, one for the misses too (yes, I am a sucker)... both are SIM free, non contract.
Mine is behaving very strangely indeed:
When the phone is powered off, and I insert the USB charger, it automatically powers on.
When the usb charger is plugged in and the phone is switched on, it charges. However when I power the phone down, it gets stuck and freezes.
If I plug the USB cable into the phone while connected to a PC, it will always show that it is charging the phone, however total hit and miss (usually miss) if I get the notification to select to enable the USB storage (the android logo)
I am on:
Android Version 2.3.2
Baseband: I9020XXJK8
Build: GRH78C
The other annoyance is that we travel around the EU a lot, and seems that if we insert a non UK SIM it will always show the roaming icon. Very annoying indeed as it confused the hell out of the misses as she thought she would be paying more for calls and data... had to explain that there is no way it is roaming LOL.
Anyone else encountered these problems please?
All the best
It sounds like you might have a defective phone to be honest. You might want to exchange it.
Sent from my Sublime MoDaCo Nexus S running Netarcy's amazing kernel!
That definitely sounds weird as far as the booting up when plugged into a charger goes. The phone screen will turn on showing a battery charge icon if the phone is off and plugged in, but it shouldn't just boot up. I would def take it back and get a replacement if possible.
Thanks for the replies guys...
Yesterday I went to the CPW shop where I bought the handset, which was exactly one calender month from date of purchase... only to find that their policy is to do a direct exchange on faulty handsets within 28 days :-( .... butttt the nice fella on the till put me through to the HQ, I explained the situation to them and they gave me an immediate exchange, even though they did not have to. New handset seems to be working fine. So I am very pleased with how Carphone Warehouse dealt with me and the problem.
All the best!

My Galaxy S3 just died without explanation (resolved)

Welp,
There's no doubt in my mind that my Galaxy S3 just hard bricked
Looking for some advice on what to do.
I've had the phone for 20 days, I've been running Beans Custom Stock ROM Build 10 for over a week I think?
And this is how it happened:
I started sending a few texts to one of my brothers, with "Go SMS" , and my phone around the time I hit send decided to switch to 4G (which it hardly does because it's only 1-2 bars where I am) , I then went into the basement and my phone then went to show 0 bars of 4G, then looked like it was going to switch to 3G but then the SMS application hung. I tried closing it, but it wouldn't, so I held down the power button and as the boot menu was coming up, that hung, so I pulled down the notifications bar and tried shutting off data, but then that hung. So, I had no choice but to pull the battery.
I left the battery out for a little while and then put it back in. Held the power button, and the device hung on the "Samsung Galaxy S III" first boot screen. I pulled the battery again and waited for a really long while and took my Micro SDXC out.
Tried to boot but power button does nothing. There's no signs off life!
Plugging it into a wall charger does nothing and I'm sure there's still charge in the battery because when it died it was around 20-30%.
Only sign of life I can get is when I plug it into my PC and then put the battery in. THE RED LIGHT TURNS ON.
:crying:
I have no idea what caused this, and I have no idea what to do!
Will Verizon cover this since it bricked without question and it's been under 30 days?
Or maybe Samsung will cover it?
Or because I rooted, I pretty much screwed myself?
I've never had anything like this happen before so I'm stumped...................HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I used to love my S III but now it's just a really nice paperweight.............. :crying:
I guess this is an option also: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/

But I've had it for 20 days now and their website says they don't allow returns or replacements after 14 days. Or is this different because it randomly died?
Also. I don't get insurance on my phones because they always would charge me $10 or more a month and then when the phone died they would charge half the cost of the phone just to get it replaced!
Honestly I think I may just send it to MobileTechVideos.........
Unless I still have a chance with Verizon. Hard decision............
I'm pretty sure the 14 day timeframe is for refunds on the purchase. Most electronics have some sort of manufacturer's warranty.
Have you tried to get it into download mode? volume down, then home, then power, Hold them all together until it boots into download mode? Do this while plugged in maybe?
samsung s 3

Haha. Thanks!
Well, I ended up making a Google Voice account since my phone is dead and I called Verizon customer service. The first lady started having me go through the usual checklist like most companies do, I very nicely let her know that I've tried it all and I indeed know it's dead without explanation. She then sent me to someone higher up, we talked very briefly and she said it's covered under the manufacturer warranty, they're sending me a replacement for free. Only thing I paid for was a $12 upgrade to 1-day shipping!
I seriously was freaked out that I wasn't going to be able to get this replaced. Thankfully I can!
So, I guess, some advice to people that have hard bricked Galaxy S IIIs, CALL VERIZON BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!
Thanks for the suggestions and help guys!
It's crazy how deep the brick went, the phone wouldn't even charge! Maybe I got a lemon? I hadn't even dropped or scratched it and I had 0 problems with unlocking/rooting it. I swear it was it hanging on trying to switch from 4G to 3G that killed it. Either way, stress is gone! phew! :fingers-crossed:

It's hard bricked. Will not charge, no booting, and download or recovery mode won't work. Will not show any indication of life except for plugging it into a power source without the battery and then putting the battery in. If the red light comes on when you do that, it means it's hard bricked? Correct me if I'm wrong?

If you can't get into download mode then yea, most likely I guess or the battery died. I just didn't see that you said you tried to get into download mode.

Glad you got this fixed! Also i think its a 30 day replacement or swap for another phone if you don't like it. Thats what i was told when i got mine.

[Q] Rooted 4.1.1 GS3 Possible Sudden Death Syndrome?

Hello All!
Three days ago I updated my GS3 to JB 4.1.1. I also ODIN'd TWRP onto my phone as a recovery and loaded SuperSU with an unlocked bootloader onto my phone along with BusyBox. I fell in love with my phone again as JB ran smoothly and I was even able to use Wallet Installer to get Google Wallet onto my phone. However, tonight, my phone seemed to experience a case of Sudden Death Syndrome. A common issue found by googling why my phone's failure to respond to boot commands and power commands.
It will not respond to attempts to boot into ODIN mode, my TWRP recovery and the only sign of life on my phone is a solid red LCD that lights up only if I remove the battery and leave the device plugged into a wall charger. Once I try to reinsert the battery, however, the LCD goes away and the phone once again turns into a coffee coaster. It's taking a lot of strength not to throw it against the wall. (I picked the worst week to quit smoking.)
I don't believe I hardbricked the device because three hours ago at the time of this post, I went to sleep and the phone was working and I was able to send and receive messages. I believe that rooting my phone actually made it even more stable than normal. I just can't believe my phone could just suddenly die. Could it be another case of Sudden Death Syndrome? (Corrupted NAND?) I bought this phone in August and many cases of SDS for the GSIII seem to occur within 150-200 days of activation, which would put me in that window. If I answered my own questions, please feel free to tell me. I'm just trying to explore all options as an exasperated user dealing with what seems frustration after frustration and the one release I have from that stress just **** a brick.
I am covered by Asurion Insurance (and if the crack on my screen will not be enough I plan on running it over with my car for good measure to get my money's worth) but I really do not want to have to file an insurance claim unless it is absolutely necessary.
Phone died just last night 12/29/12. The battery was running down, then beeped once like a warning to charge it. Plugged into the charger and no light whatsoever! The battery icon would come on for a second and then nothing. Left it on the charger over night. Nothing. No red charging light, no boot. Pulled the battery and re-plugged into charger. Same charging icon on screen but nothing else. Tried every combination of removing battery, sim card, memory card, and plugging it in to the charger and still won't boot. Tried a different charger and also my laptop. Nothing. The S3 is a USA Verizon variant. 16gb. Black. I guess it's off to Verizon this morning to get a new phone. Phone is only 45 days old!!!
You could try leaving it on the charger for a couple hours then booting into recovery and reflashing your rom. I've seen a couple instances reported on xda where the battery simply just gave up below 23% and refused to turn back on.
Edit: example, not even a couple weeks old...

If it is a case of "sds" Samsung will replace the board for free.

Only reports of SDS in the 150-200 day time frame that I saw was with the International Version and it is completely different motherboard.
What do you kids do to your phone? How old are you? I'm going to start a survey. Age please?

Update: Brought the S3 into Verizon. They pulled the battery (Like I did a few times!) and somehow got it working again!! FM ! Phone reboots and turns off and then back on. BUT..... if you turn it completely OFF and plug it in to charge then the same as I mentioned happens again. STRANGE. The only way to get it to reboot is to pull the battery and keep it out for about 30 seconds. Put the battery back in and it'll reboot again!!!! Is it me or is this a strange quirk???? The previous times I pulled the battery it was out then back in. This time I took it out, waited 30 seconds and VOILA! It works. Thought you might like an update. Verizon S3 bought on 11/17/12. Rooted and not oc/uc'd. Using Clean Rom 5.5.1

[Q] Stock pixel 2 restarted while charging then brick

Saturday evening, while I was going to sleep, I saw my screen wake up (across the room) I kind of looked at it to see if someone was calling and saw the boot logo, didnt think much of it and went to sleep.
Sunday afternoon I go to use my phone and it is off, I hold the power button and get nothing, try a few more times, still nothing.
This is a 9 month old 100% stock pixel 2 running android 9
I tried a couple of adb tool kits and of course they dont connect, no adb.
The only sign of life is that the computer acknowledges the connection when i connect by usb to the pc, I found that in device manager it shows it as a qualcom dloader, which sounds to me like it is in download mode.
I assume my hands are tied due to it being stock.
To make matters worse, I went through the process of getting a replacement and google shipped it to an old address and say they cant do anything about it, so now i have a $650 charge on my CC and no idea if i will ever see the replacement, googles phone support is a nightmare, six hours on the phone and on hold with them and got nowhere, the last thing they said is that someone from support will contact me by email.
While trying to find a solution on the web I came across a surprising number of people with the same issue.
Any tips about things to try or even how to get google support to fix the replacement being shipped to the wrong address will be appreciated.

Question [HELP] 5S rebooting at random all night and Asus won't honor the warranty

Yesterday, 10 minutes before a major interview, my rog phone 5S locked up while reading a PDF. It froze for 5 min before rebooting itself. It responded to no input from me at all, not even attempts to get to the bootloader. When it started back up, nothing worked without crashing. I powered it off and switched to my old Pixel 4 XL to do the interview, which worked out fine. I then went back to my 5S and tried to get it working. At first it was fine and I could make and receive calls, but I could only receive texts. I couldn't send them. I left it be for a while longer and then it started rebooting on its own at random. At some point in this, texting started working again and it was fine for a few hours till I went to sleep. However, during the night it started rebooting at random, constantly waking me up. I turned it off, but that didn't stop it. It would turn itself on and reboot. I got next to no sleep till I buried it in my dresser and clothes. I did a reset last night, before going to bed, and I thought that had fixed it, but clearly it didn't do anything except cause me a **** load of unnecessary work.
I went to file for an RMA just now. I provided the serial and ASUS said they won't honor it because it's an international model and has to be returned to the country it was bought in. I have no idea where it's from. I assume China and I can't read Chinese to do any of that, much less know where I'd even go to start that process. It's an expensive phone and I'm without a job right now. I don't know what to do.
I've had nothing but problems with this damned phone since day 1 and I'm sick of it. It's awful. The ROG Phone 3, which I also have, is only slightly less problematic. At least it never did this. I only have it for the gaming controller at this point and I'm gonna get a new phone once a phone comes out with the new Immortalis GPU.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to pot on the ROG Phone 5 subreddit, but they are restricted and IDK how long it'll take to get approved. The last restricted subreddit I applied to took 5 months.
