Poco support flashing custom rom - POCO M2 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I Got this reply from their Twitter account
Me : Does unlocking the phone’s bootloader void the manufacturer’s warranty of poco M2 Pro.When can we expect the kernel source release
Ans : Hi, flashing the ROM will not void the warranty for POCO, as we allow flashing custom ROMs on the device. The only thing to take care of here is that the modded ROM doesn't alter the CPU clock speed or hardware of the device and no damage must be caused to the underlying software.

Release Of Kernel Sources & Custom Rom Development ?

Will Xiaomi release kernel sources fully for this smartphone & therefore able to have active rom development (including Android M 6.0 roms) in the near future ?
(Kernel sources for the Xiaomi Mi3 & Mi4 were released very late and not in full and are the reason I believe that many Lollipop roms for these devices are not stable).
I think it depends on whether the device goes international. They were quick to release the sources for the Mi4i, and that is the only phone they officially sell internationally. That said, at least it uses the most common SOC of 2015.
Does it help that it has the same soc as the nexus 5x?

It helps a little bit maybe, but the problem is all the other stuff inside the phone is different. You still need proper sources from Xiaomi.

Do Xiaomi devices have root "built-in" ?
I'm interested in ROM development, too, but for the first months having root would be enough.

Don't count on that. Many device that have kernel source and ir blasters still don't work on aosp based roms. Due to all the drivers for the hardware being closed sourced.

Let's say xiaomi is taking long to release their kernel source but the source for nexus 5x soc is out, would that be enough for aosp rom?

No it won't. You will also need the device tree for this device. It's not how long it takes for them to release it that I would be worried about. It's if the source is complete and not broken like they are known to release. They have a habit of release broken source to force users to use miui. If you look at other devices from this OEM it takes months some times a year before they release it and when they do it is broken and devs have to take weeks to get it even remotely working. Then there are still bugs that are never fixed.

Don't sceptical, I reconstruct Redmi 2 kernel source without any help from Xiaomi. They released Redmi 2 kernel source for KitKat when my device already run "fully open source" and almost bug free Marshmallow

no more alternative rom....?

I saw different post where we can see, flashing magictrick file, that adb command work well to unlocked bootloader and to be able to install twrp ... and rooting oppo f1.... but there's no other rom to install... Should we wait only for the spectrum official project by oppo ?
i think ,just wait for cyanogen rom based on marshmallow...
The CM device tree is finished and has been done by Uberlaggydarwin. CM is now patiently waiting for Oppo to release the kernel source for the F1f. If you want to speed up the kernel source release by Oppo I suggest to start sending emails and demanding them. The more people do it the higher the chance Oppo will listen.

Do you have the F1f kernel source too?
I was thinking about rebasing the R7S to Project Spectrum too but my first tests ended in the Camera constantly crashing. I don't think its a Camera Hal problem. Project Spectrum is still unstable and full of bugs. If they come out with a stable release a rebase would make more sense imho. For now I let the people use the PS aboot to unlock the device.

According to Jai Mani (Lead Product Manager of Xiaomi India)
"When asked about the status of kernel sources for its devices (with a specific mention of the Mi A1 from our end), Mr. Mani commented that Xiaomi’s focus is on providing quality kernel sources and not just uploaded for the sake of it (we assume he meant complying with the GPL…), like several OEMs in the lower budget market tend to do (if they release sources at all). The internal goal of the company is to release kernel sources within three months. Mr. Mani also commented that unlocking the bootloader of Xiaomi devices does not void warranty."

I feel cheated tbh, does it really take this long for Xiaomi to release source for all devices?

Done! I'm yet to buy this device and I'm waiting for the source code so that we can have some custom action.
Related stuff, OP5T launched yesterday and the company released its source code within 24 hours. That's some generous stuff.

Exactly, Xiaomi should learn how things must be done.Honestly I just think they are up to something else and provide false arguments just to misguide users.I mean don't they maintain a proper Kernel tree while developing for their device.
Why did google allow an exception to Xiaomi to handle the software update themselves? If it was done by google, things would have been different. How can this be an android one device? Just because it comes with aosp rom?

Wha... ... what does it should mean? They have to release the source used to compile the kernel running on the phone...
You don't compile a kernel, release the binary THEN do a complete quality check of the sources... come on mr. Mani, stop foolin around...

Request Kernel Sources from Samsung

I don't know if this allowed or not, but with the official release of Oreo now rolling out it would be a good idea for people to request Sammy releases the official Kernel source for developers to crack on with AOSP. If people could do this that would be fantastic.
Instructions as follows:
1. Go to the opensource website: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=G950F (change the value to your device)
2. Click on the "inquiry" letter on the right side of the website
3. Enter your informations (Name/Email and so on), click on "inquiry type", "request for source codes"
4. Source code type: "kernel"
5. Write a message to request the
G950FXXU1CRAP Oreo source code (it's important that you mention the base)
6. Agree the terms and send it to samsung
Thanks to Mohammed in the Telegram chat for these instructions.
Let's get these sources and finally get the AOSP we deserve!

FevaX is working on the development with some others. He was working on Lineage 14.1, but decided to hold out for 15.1 instead and Kernel sources.
We can only hope I suppose. I just think there's a lack of developers for our device in this regard but anything that will help FevaX and team would be great.

I mean I love seeing variety with roms we can flash, but like you said there just haven't been that many devs wanting to work on it. I personally won't be trying a aosp Rom if ever it comes to fruition, i would have bought a pixel phone if that was what I wanted but I know there is some sort of demand for it though so here for you guys to see a fully working release soon

Bootloader unlocking guide and kernel source

So guys finally realme allow us to unlock ( it will take longer time for unlocking as they will review your application than provide a ota which includes the fastboot binary) the bootloader of our realme 2 pro. They have also released the lite version of kernel source ( have not released full kernel source code!).

It's is mandatory for creating device tree.
I wish they should have given an easy procedure and don't have to wait to unlock our bootloader. Also i dunno know when the development will start or whether we'll get to see any custom roms. Hope the developers will take interest in this phone.
I hope to see development soon

So without device tree no custom roms can be built.
Then what can be done with lite kernel source?
