If anyone has, please share your views. I for one don't see how the 6P is better other than the fact that it has a terrific camera. But the other things are pretty much what we get on the OPO. Isn't it?
Hi there, I immediately jumped ship once the 6P came out, and have been loving it.
I don't use the camera much, but there are 4 things that have stood out since getting it:
1. It feels sooooo much better in the hand.
It's slightly wider, but not really that noticeable. The metal feels much better than the sandpaper of the 64 gig OPO, and the device is just well constructed all around.
2. All the fingerprints!
The fingerprint reader is freaking great! At my work we have to encrypt and lock our phones if we want to connect to the exchange server, and having the fingerprint reader means I am not constantly typing in my pin code, and that reader is FAST.
3. NO FINGERPRINTS!
Seriously, I don't know how this miracle was pulled off, but when I had the OPO, I was cleaning it all the damn time, and it would immediately get dirty again. I swear I don't have any gloves made of pizza, but I feel like that wouldn't even be a big deal on the 6P. Whatever mixture of Olympian sweat and unicorn tears they coated this glorious screen with works like a freaking charm, because I rarely have to consciously clean the screen. Most of the time, just being pocketbound is enough.
4. It works as intended.
This might not affect everyone, but for the two OPO's I ordered, (one for me, one for a friend) both had connectivity problems fairly regularly. It took a lot of flashing and tinkering to get mine semi-stable on a rom I liked, and his is still borked because the flashing process on his phone didn't go super smoothly.
What I miss:
Double tap to wake.

I'm hoping the rumors about the 6P on T-Mobile EIP are true
I did, after a few weeks with it I have to say that there is a bit of buyers remorse, but not enough for me to send it back. My primary issue with the opo was that it has a good camera not a great camera. I take a lot of photos and wanted a better camera. I did in fact get what I wanted.
The feel, its nice but its super slippery and I have to say that even though it's got a metal shell it doesn't feel very tough, I am treating it much more gingerly than I did my opo, its obvious that these phones have a bending issue. Did I mention its slippery?
The OS is nice, but I was already used to it thanks to sultan and his cm13.
I have a very good fingerprint reader, but I've been a big user of smartlock so it doesn't get used very much and Android pay is still out of reach since it won't work on a rooted phone.
Performance is good, but again I don't notice much difference day to day other than when the sucker gets really hot and slows down. It does cool down really fast.
I spend a lot of time in a car and have to use the USB a to C converter, so I don't get quick charge.
It can doze for days, but with regular use it dies fasted than my opo did.
The audio sucks without viper4android.
My happiest surprise is that it works flawlessly with my Acura hands free(I have had no phones that have) but the a2dp has anomalies.
The screen is beautiful, but not than much more beautiful than my adjusted opo screen.
There are no off screen gestures, it doesn't sound like a big deal but it is, you can enable double tap to wake but you have to do it every time you restart.
I have T-Mobile lte connection issues I didn't have with my opo. Not bad, but annoying.
The theming engine doesn't work for me.
When I say "that much more" what I mean is hundreds of dollars more. The phone would be easier to justify if it was at least $100 less.

I'm tossing it up, I only got my One 12 months ago, and I have enough money right now to buy basically anything that I want outright, but I'm thinking I might just wait until the OnePlus 3. I worked out that I can either buy a OnePlus device every year (if they are similarly priced), or buy another flagship type every 2 years, and I'm thinking that the 12 month option is going to work better for me and I've never really had any problems with my One.
From what I've seen of the battery life with the 6P, I'm not sold on it. Plus I feel as though the SD810 is not the greatest chip in the world. I'm going to wait for the SD820 devices to come out. To me, the 6P just seems like an incremental upgrade over the OPO, and I can't justify it at the price point they are selling it at.
For me a bumb from the OPO to the 6P is to small that i would spend 500€ on it + I don't support Huawei anyway + Fingerprint can get bypassed easy by a 14 year old nerd ~
I switched and will never buy another one plus product again after my one year experience owning that pos.

It's too expensive for my current budget
Got my nexus 6p a few days ago.. Let me tell you, this is probably the best phone I've ever had. The screen, build quality, overall phone responsiveness is A1 , 10/10! I've had the iPhone 6 plus, Note 5 and this nexus 6p definitely beats both in almost every way.

Thinking about making the switch myself.
Basically, there are some stuffs that hold me to switch to a so expensive phone.
First of all, I relized that my opo will never die: the community is really active, we are talking of a two years old phone. I'm really happy to know that I can find almost everything I need for my phone. That not mean that I think that the 6P community is smaller (AK we miss you), but it's not the 'nexus' name on the back that will change my mind.
And about the performance, well, my opo still do what should do in almost every conditions.
And the battery life is awesome, really, I hate to arrive at home and run to plug my phone, as I hate to save battery while I'm out and avoid to use the phone cause I'm scared it die before I can plug it.
And the sandstone fell on the back, it's pure love for me.
The 6P is a really really great phone, great camera, great performance with MM, but it cost about twice what i paid my opo. Moreover, I don't feel the need of a SD810 at all, I would definetively wait for something with the new quad 820.
Maybe the new Nexus (I always loved Htc phones, so I really hope in something by them for the new Nexus) or meybe the future OP3.
I think that my opo will survive till and will give me a lot of fun till its moment arrive, maybe the next november

I bought a N6P from google play store but returned it (under Googles ridiculously generous return policy) and went back to my OPO. I don't think the build quality of the N6 was very good. It is big and slippery and yet not very robust, unlike the OPO. I strongly disagree with the poster above who prefers the N6P back. It is too slippery - the OPO "sandpaper" is MUCH better for these big phones. Also, the N6P price in Australia is outrageous given it is just another Chinese phone. The OPO running Android 6 - CM13 (Sultan) is still near a state-of-the-art phone.

Great deal. I would also look at the 64 GB refurbished for $279.95.
So I just walked into a Best Buy, and bought a black model for this price. I don't know if I will use this phone myself or whether I will pass it onto someone in my household, but the value is amazing. The Moto X Pure slaughters my Nexus 5X in almost every spec. Not having a fingerprint reader (which is the only thing that saves the Nexus from a complete embarrassment) is a turn off, but I can deal with that considering it's a 250USD smartphone with a fine screen and most other specs. The screen, the stereo audio speakers, and a healthy headphone gain make it a great device for multimedia consumption too.
I bought one and my GF's dad bought one. The local Best Buy ran out of stock but Fry's price matched. =D

Ouch. I ordered one 2 weeks ago from the Motorola website for $299. They still haven't delivered, the status shows it is being built. I thought that was a good deal at $299. I would still be ok if they deliver it pretty soon. I am thinking of just canceling my order with them and taking a trip down to Best Buy.
This deal came at a good time for me. I had been using a Note 5 (64GB) since the beginning of the year and I was looking to sell it and get a less expensive daily driver until I go back to Samsung next year whenever they decide to release the next Note device (if they ever do, which I hope). I was looking around at several unlocked phones and ultimately decided to snatch up this MXPE with that nice price. I've flirted with getting this phone ever since it was released but I've been too addicted to the Note series and that S-Pen. I actually just needed some extra cash for the holidays and I figured I could just sell my Note 5 and use this less expensive phone so I could have a bit of profit.
Coming from AMOLED and haptic navigation buttons it's taking some getting used to but so far I'm enjoying the experience with this phone. These front-facing speakers... holy cow! The standard rubbery back to this phone makes me feel like I can use it regularly without a case, which is nice. I'm feeling confident to use it pretty much anywhere without fear of damaging it, unlike when I was using my Note 5 with its glass and metal design I always felt I needed to protect it.
One thing I really am missing from my Note 5 is having native call recording. I had hoped that when I installed GravityBox it may have offered an option for it like Wanam Xposed. Anyway, this device will suit me just fine until next summer. It's my first Moto device and first unlocked device so pretty interesting experience moving forward.

Glad you are enjoying the phone. I will say that with Moto display, an AMOLED screen would have better on battery. Aside from that, I would still recommend protection. The screen, due to its form factor, is susceptible to cracking from falls. I use cases and never had my screen crack yet, but many others have reported this issue.

Yeah, that AMOLED is just sweet on battery life and those inky blacks are awesome. I'm actually going to try out this bumper they included in the box for a while and see how it feels. I just finally wanted to use something daily without a case and I figured this phone would be it. I'm careful with my phones to begin with but let's see how I feel about this bumper after a few days.
ETA: By the way, is there a way to just turn off Moto display?
Earlier this week BHPhoto had the X Pure 64GB on sale for $269, so I ordered two of them. Had been wanting to go with the LG V20 US996 Unlocked, but at $800 it is a bit too much. So decided to go with the X Pure instead for now.

You can turn it off via the Moto app.
Is it worth buying an S7 now in mid 2017? What do you guys think? I really have to upgrade to a new device. I passed on OnePlus5 because of the jelly effect, and all sorts of problems. The S7 is not flawless I know that, but I'm curious what recent users, or previous users think about it. Would you recommend buying it? I hope you guys can help me with this. Thanks in advance
ofcourse it is still worth it if you can get it for a decent price. Ill take a s7 over a Oneplus 5 any day due to the fact that you can add a sd card and of its water resistance and i really like the option to go with a non curved screen because they break to easy when dropped and the curved phones have terrible cases.

Yeah I found some decent prices, and they are still offering it in a lot of colours too, so no problem with the availablity. I haven't thought about the curved edges at all, but good point, thank you. I absolutely agree with you there, even though the S7 is slippery because of all that glass finishing. In my opinion the S7 is a great looking phone.
The sd card was another big reason for me, so I hope thats alright, thanks for mentioning it.
Do you have any tips on cases for this phone? Or dbrand skin?

I'd say it depends on the variant - if you can grab an exynos model, go for it, but avoid snapdragon variants because of the inferior performance and locked bootloaders. I was torn between the OP5 and an S7 (exynos) and decided to buy another samsung because I could get it for >200€ cheaper.
The performance, display and the camera still perform really well and I like some of the unique touchwiz features, such as always on display etc. Battery life is quite good too-I can get 4h of sot without even trying. Touchwiz is still there but is better than ever with nougat. The good news is that there is plenty of AOSP development going on, so if you don't like touchwiz or tw-based-roms, you have other options to choose from.
So, in my opinion, the exynos variants of s7 are well worth it, even in the mid-2017. Just don't overpay this phone-I got a barely used one for 300€, which I think is a good deal.
What's your budget btw? If money isn't a problem you could wait for a few months and get yourself a pixel 2...
And for the skin question: I can recomend slickwraps because they are cheaper than dbrand and cover the sides of the phone as well. I am using one right now and am in love with it. If you want more customisation options, you might want to go with dbrand though.

The S7 is a fine phone, but not exceptional. I had a Xiaomi Mi5 before it and I replaced it because of the rubbish software releases when it moved to Nougat. The Mi5 was lighter and sexier. the S7 is heavy and reliable like a family car but nothing really leaps out. Video is good, Stills camera is remarkably not sharp. S7 comes with the usual lorry load of bloatware. I use one of the battery saving modes.. its no where near as good as the Mi5 was on battery. so there you go, Strong and Stable

I can't afford the Pixel right now, so budget is a deal here. It's hard to tell you how much my budget actually is, because in my country prices could be a bit strange. But about 400 € - 450 €. If you have any other suggestions I welcome it, but I want a somewhat elegentish kind of phone, closer to high end, with great camera and battery life. I also like if a phone is durable, but thats not the most important thing at all. More like to be close to stock android. (I know TouchWiz is there, but it's still more stock then a Huawei for example)

Well, another option in that price range would be an Oneplus 3/3T. Oneplus doesn't sell them anymore, but you can get used ones for cheap. They are far more durable than the s7, battery life is superior and the performance is still top-notch, thanks to close-to-stock os. The only things that you are really missing out on compared to the s7 are camera and wireless charging.
LG G6 has dropped in price significantly as well so that might be another option to consider. I am not a big fan of their UI, but that's just me.

Problem is that I don't want to buy an used phone. And the camera is very important for me. But if One Plus would still sell them, I would have selected the 3T, because I am an OP fan really. But like this, that's not an option. I check if I can fimd any new ones, not from the original site. Thats on option.

Yeah, it cold be find to find a brand new one right now... In that case, the S7 is probably your best option. You might consider some of the other last-year-flagships as well, such as the HTC 10. Anyway, good luck with your purchace.
It's a pretty nice phone, I just got mine a few months ago.
Keep in mind, my previous phone was a Moto X Pure, also this is the Exynos variant of the S7.
Battery life is about twice as long as what that phone was, I get an average of about 4-6 hours of SOT and with Nougat it should last fine on standby.
Display looks amazing, an AMOLED panel at a 2K resolution in a 5.1 inch phone looks super sharp and nice, gets bright outside.
Speaker pretty much sucks... It gets decently loud, but it's so easily to cover it by accident even with a case on.
The design of the phone is pretty and nice, it holds up very well in 2017. Sure it has big bezels and no curved screen (I have a flat S7), but it's still a solidly built phone that looks beautiful. But I have to say DO NOT USE THIS PHONE WITHOUT A CASE!!! The back is VERY slippery, one drop and that beautiful glass back will get shattered...
Fingerprint scanner is decently fast and accurate, only complaint is that the scanner is in the middle of the home button, I wish it was a concaved home button like on the iPhone.
The camera is very nice, can record 60 FPS at 1080P with video stabilization making your videos look good. Pretty decent in low light, The auto focus is SUPER fast, focuses instantly and the camera snaps pictures in an instant, double pressing for camera is quick and convenient. Front camera pretty much sucks tbh, not really possible to turn off all the dumb beauty features. Tons of camera modes to play around with, not much different in terms of the camera from my Moto X Pure.
Water/dust resistance, I haven't tested this and I don't plan to, basically all I can say is people please only consider this as a failsafe as in don't rely on it, like if your phone falls in water then you should go after it right away and the phone should be fine.... But if it's not, the warranty WILL NOT COVER IT!!! So go swimming at your own risk. Also, you can use the volume buttons to take pictures for underwater photography.
And lastly..... THE SOFTWARE.
Now.... What do I have to say about the infamous Touchwiz coming from stock android? Well, my first phone was an S3 (I had it before the MXP) so I kind of knew what to expect from Touchwiz in terms of features. And I can say this phone is just PACKED with lots of neat software features! I disabled the bloat, decided not to use a theme, used the default launcher, and the phone runs fine and works fine for me. Do I miss stock android? Not really, Touchwiz has a lot of added features that I wish Stock had, and small tweaks/changes that make the experience better in my opinion. Also, there are definitely small hiccups here and there with stutters, but it's nothing too bad tbh, apps open up nice and fast and the phone is always responsive, only thing that really sucks is the usage... RAM usage is kind of high even when your recents are cleared, and the storage available out of the box is kind of low so I would recommend a Micro SD Card if you take lots of pictures (though, those can slow your phone down keep in mind). I got about three software updates (all security) since May of when I got this phone, so updates don't seem to be too bad. But keep in mind it'll be ages until we see Android O on this phone, just a heads up. All in all, Touchwiz has grown up and refined its features instead of including a million features and being laggy (S5 and below), it's now simpler and more streamlined since the S6.
And that's all I have to say about the phone! I hope my review has helped someone out there looking to see if they want to buy a Galaxy S7.

Depending on how much you find this phone for, I would definitely recommend it! WELL! Thanks man for the long breakdown. In the end I bought the s7. Right now I'm using it. It is amazing, I really liking it so far. There are a bunch of stuff what I haven't tried yet, but we shall see! Thanks again for your breakdown!

The other part of this that's exciting is that Essential is one of the first companies (OnePlus, Google, ?) to do this but we should expect that based on its AOSP-ness I guess
Just too bad Oreo is a rather lame update.. hardly noticed anything on my Nexus 6P.
I remember when a new version of Android used to mean major changes.... But Oreo does have a few *cough* ui changes, I've been running it on my Nexus 6. Tho all I want on the essential phone is root and my multirom.
I'm going to go on the record as stating that I hope they have Android N system images provided at the point they release the O beta. This will allow those that want to try it the ability to revert. The other thing that would be helpful is if we had TWRP, which I'm sure the kernel release will help with and also give us an option of reverting.

on twitter they said that the images would be coming soon. My guess is that means like the next week or 2
Yep, I am aware. But "soon"tm is about the most grey area response anyone can give. Without hard dates, it really means nothing lol. I am impressed that they delivered on the kernel source so quickly, though.
I was kinda hoping this phone would never get an update.

So has anyone heard yet when the oreo update will be released? I had a Sony Xperia XZ premium with Android N and went to Oreo and there were very big differences, somehow the camera got even better than it already was, and everything seemed to run much better, however I had already started a return on the Xperia because there were things I didn't like about it, the biggest of which not having a activated fingerprint sensor because no Sony phone shipped to and sold in the US is allowed to have the fingerprint sensor working, they all have to be deactivated and nobody seems to know exactly what the reason for this is. But I was able after the update to oreo shoot a picture in a almost pitch black room with no flash and it amazingly got a clear photo of everything in the room. I was literally amazed as I had never seen a camera on a phone or any other camera for that matter do what it was able to do. But I ordered my essential phone and didn't after I ordered it the Xperia got oreo and I couldn't keep it because there's no return on the essential phone because I got it on ebay, which I got the Xperia on ebay too, but it had a 30 days return policy. But also the Xperia has the glass front and back and as much as I drop my phone that's just asking for a broken shattered phone within a month for a 850.00 phone so I got the essential phone and at first was very disappointed with its camera, then I got the camera update and it was much better but still bad compared to the Xperia and my moto z Force Droid 1st generation camera. I installed the Google pixel camera software and the essential is very very good now but still low light could be better. It's a beautiful phone in every other aspect. I fell in love with it the second I picked it up and it is so dense and don't bend or anything with its titanium frame and ceramic back. The ceramic don't scratch even with a razor blade it didn't leavs a mark, but ceramic can certainly shatter its no different them ceramic tile in your bathroom or kitchen granted the smaller ceramic is the harder it is to break but it can happen. There's really no cases for the essential phone yet except for 2, and I got a tudia case and was pleasantly surprised it is as nice as it is, fits beautifully yet virtually adds no weight to the phone and no bulk. It's still smaller then my z force with no case on the z Force and holding the Xperia after this felt like I was holding a humongous ancient phone because it is huge bigger than the z Force even. But anyway I didn't mean to ramble on like this, I'm brand new to this site but I just wanted to give my honest opinion / review on the essential phone ph-1 in hopes more people jump off the iPhone wagon and buy essential phones, because this phone is half the cost of iPhone x it was just reduced to $499.99 from $699.99 and I love that it will get 2 major android upgrades and security upgrades for 3 years. It has the snapdragon 835, 4gb ram, 128gb internal storage but no SD card slot which with 128gb storage that should be plenty for most people if they keep this phone for even 3 years. I am quite certain that the snapdragon 835 will be a very fast soc for at least 3-5 years. They are getting to a point in smartphones that people are not upgrading as much because these phones are so good now that they do almost anything you need them to do. I literally used to hate smartphones and always used my laptop with pclinuxos se (security edition) kde3. And I started using smartphones in 2014 a little over 3 years ago. Since then I've literally only been on any of my computers maybe 10 to 20 times because I can do almost every single thing on my phone now. But props to Andy Ruben for making this phone top of the line flagship build and performance for a mid grade phone price. Oh and the notch.. I don't even notice it 99% of the time and is smaller than the huge iPhone x notch. So people, if you want a great phone, look no farther than this phone. You won't be disappointed as long as you install the Google camera software. But if anyone knows when or where to get android O for the essential phone please let me know. Thanks.

I have Oreo on my pixel XL and Nexus 6p, and use basically none of the new features. So I could care less when it comes to this phone.

they are bringing some pixel features to the phone like using the fingerprint sensor for the notification tray which is awesome. really hope they add double tap to wake. i think every phone with a back fingerprint sensor should have this. If they add these things i would really think about picking one up again
Yup each to their own. I never use either of those features in my pixel XL.

They already implemented fingerprint notification shade. Check patch notes on the 10/30 update.
Double tap to wake and an ambient display similar to OnePlus would be ideal. Actually oxygen os would be ideal.

So, i got mine OP6 yesterday, damn it is a nice phone i love it.
But how happy are you with it. And what would you change to the hard-software..
Battery percent in circle.
Proximity sensor to activate ambient display.
Speaker sounds a bit tinny.

Coming from an OPO this is light years in advance. I don't think I could ever go back to a phone with less screen retail and no gestures. Having said that, it is far from perfect:
The glass back is so slippy it makes the phone useless without a case.
The battery life is better than my old phone, but not as good as I was hoping.
There is no thermal paste or cooling on the SOC.
The rounded corners on the screen are annoying and pointless.
Not sure if I should swap my Midnight Black to mitigate #1, but given it is a glass back I'm not sure that is going to help really. On the flip side I do appreciate the improved signal a glass back brings.

Got mine yesterday as well. My previous phone was a note 8. I'm very pleased with the OP6 so far. At this point I wouldn't change anything except it is quite slippery. I feel like I'm holding a baby.
I definitely hope to see an improved camera performance in a future update. My OP6 produces smudgy images that seem way too processed. A Google camera port on my old OP3 produces much better quality photos, so there's that.
Otherwise the rounded corners of the screen are a little reminiscent of an old-school TV and I struggle to ignore them.
Performance is beastly AF.
1. An option in settings to have always on display
2. Speaker volume and tone to be improved. When I had the 5t on Oreo beta the speaker was really good for a single speaker, this one just sounds a bit shallow. Enabling the earpiece speaker would be a plus if they could implement it.
3. Bluetooth drop outs. I'm finding it losses connection to devices temporarily (not due to range)
4. Option to have Google now as the left hand page rather than shelf.
5. Was thinking of a 5th for ages however in the main really happy with it and all the above could be fixed in an update. Let's just hope they don't wait too long and forget about us 6 users because they are working on the 6T!
In love the round corners, they are so cool looking, I got the mirror black and I love the way it looks. I think the phone is fantastic.
Pros of oneplus6
1. Snappy Processor for the Price - Snapdragon 845 is one of the fastest processors
2. A Tall and Notch-ed Display - The AMOLED display of the OnePlus 6 produces rich, bright and crisp colors.
3. Taste of Android P - model for which Android P Beta would be available.

Incidentally throttling is not bad right now (I did some quick and dirty tests in another thread), but might be an issue down the line. AFAIK the 5/5T had the same problem. Anyone know how they've held up in the last 6/12 months?

Am I happy? Yes and no. Didn't care for pixel. Miss my note 8. Nexus 6p is still my favorite device but battery issues kept me away. Personally think Huawei handles battery and speed(with bells and whistles) just as good. But emui.
Op6 is a get what you pay for. I think they can do better at the 530+ price. I probably take a lost but I'm going g to hold out until the next update. If things are not imporved I'll sell it for something else. Probably lose a $1 per day of ownership.
Battery life and maybe speed(not as dramatic as people make it vs others) is where the phone beats everything else. Nice to have unlocked bootloader/root. Feels like Nexus days.

i came from Note 8, for me the Note 8 was good but it was a lot of hype too. the camera was amazing but the reason i got the Op6 and sold my Note 8 was for dev purposes... the note 8 dev community is small
Just got mine today and love it so far. Buttery smooth and lightning quick. It has so much customization built in that I don't feel the need to put a custom rom on it. At least for a while.

I was one of the crazy people who actually found bixby useful. Without Tasker and being able to voice command mobile hotspot was great. Battery life was on par. Device community and not very many options out here for old school Nexus type devices.
Not a bad phone just thought by the 6+ device, some of the hardware compromises would finally be on par.

I used a OP5 for the last 11 months and to be honest, I didn't noticed some kind of throttling. Maybe there was, but I never noticed fps drops while playing with a Nintendo DS/PSP emulator (which seems like a good indicator).
Looking at the teardown videos they DO have thermal pads (the black slightly shiny things) so it isn't quite as 'bare' as suggested. Probably not as good as thermal paste, but I'm not exactly up on mobile phone cooling. Maybe someone better than me can provide some insight? I wonder how common this is in other phones.
My problems with it are the too small battery (resulting in **** battery life compared to other current phones), the mediocre camera, and no vibration that can be felt/heard whatsoever.
Rest (whatever is left) is ok.
I should probably return it and get full refund and spend money on something more proper.
