Tap to Wake - Huawei MediaPad T5 Questions & Answers

Good day!
I recently bought a Huawei Mediapad T5 to replace my old Xiaomi MiPad 1. From the get go, I noticed that it lacks some features that are already on by default on most Android devices. I am looking for the tap-to-wake the screen feature. It is just annoys me that I have to press on the power button every single time in order to wake the screen and then enter my passcode/pattern.
If any of you know how to enable it, please do let me know.
If that feature is definitely missing on this android tablet, please do let me know of any apps that you use to perform the desired function.
Thank you in advance.

There is a solution.
You can install double tap awake app from the Google store, there are many options. Beware that it will have a toll on the battery.

Move to wake seems the best alternative...

« double tap awake » ?
I couldn’t find any app with this name on Google Play. Could you please check the name, or provide a link ?
I’ve tried few apps, such as : Double Tap Screen On and Off, and few others but no one works.
Thanks

Great App! The overview is perfect - thank you so much!
Maybe it could be nice to set the time-array... since unpluged, since reboot, since screen off... But keep it easy as it is!
Really good!

1013 is a media related system process with UID number 1013,
you can see it in "Advanced mode", I guess it is doing something with audio input/output as we can see in picture.
for more detail answer you can check this thread:

thank you for your reply,
you are right, we thought about adding options [since unpluged, since reboot, screen off], however for simplicity we used only [since reboot] as it shows the maximum amount of usage statistics. later we plan to add those three options on the bottom part of screen.

that is why we considered it more valuable information than 'app info' page of android settings.

very nice app.. clean and simple!
keep up the good work and keep it this way..
for the filtering options, does "CPU + Screen" mean to list those apps that require BOTH cpu and screen wakelocks?
and whats the difference between normal and advanced modes? is it additional system processes?
i can still see "Media" and "Google Services" in normal mode, so what is the separation line?

thank you for pointing out those 3 important things,
1) CPU+Screen is for "FULL_WAKE_LOCK" , this link explains about Types of wakelock
2) Advanced mode shows the processes which UUID are less than 2000, i.e system processes used by android os
3) we still see "Media" and "Google Services" cause their UUID > 2000, though their PackageName is empty. In next version you can see them only in Advanced mode
updated version
i can still see "Media" and "Google Services" in normal mode, so what is the separation line?

Collecting user experiences
We are working on collecting common wakelock issues.
Until now, we found several issues and solutions.
One of them is *backup* of "Android System"
It was running and draining battery in the background.
The solution for that would be turning off "Backup" from phone settings(under personal settings)
If you have had experienced any other wakelock issues, please share them here! Thank you

How To Log Steps to My Fitness Pal with android wear!!! Instructions!!

Finally a way to track steps with any android wear watch and have it automatically log into My Fitness Pal!
Follow the directions below originally taken from this link: http://steamoctane.com/2015/01/use-android-wear-smart-watch-myfitnesspal-calorie-counting/
Please check pics for reference
Intro
Android Wear is becoming one of the most popular wearable’s out in the market right now, and what some people miss about these devices is that they can double as a fitness band and step counter and some even have heart rate monitoring capabilities. Now you wont get much out of this detail with Google Fit until the app is more robust, so in this guide we are going to recommend another app to help with your fitness goals; MyFitnessPal…
MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is in our opinion the most robust app in the app market for loosing weight. This app is cross compatible to almost every mobile OS, it is 100% FREE, comes with a stellar food database, and is loaded with features. We recommend you try it, or chances are you are already using it. Sign up for free at http://www.myfitnesspal.com, and download the app from your respective marketplace.
Android Wear
The following tutorial is for android wear smart watches. If you are in the market for one, we recommend the below as they have all the features required, and are the bests one on the market now.
What you need (Hardware)
You will need the following equipment to complete this guide.
Android Smart Watch
Android Smart Phone running 4.4+
Software you need
Up by Jawbone (not Up24)
MyFitnessPal
Instructions
If you haven’t already download the Up from Jawbone app from google play, while your there you might as well download MyFitnessPal if you don’t already have it.
Open the Up app and signup with Jawbone then sign in if needed.
Tap the menu button in the top left corner (The three lines). Then tap settings and finally tap Application Preferences.
Make sure phone motion sensor is turned on.
Go home and tap the watch icon on the top right. Your watch should be connected to the app, if not check that your smartwatch is paired with your phone, turned on and is in range, then restart the app.
Go to the MyFitnessPal app.
Click the menu button, scroll down and tap settings. Then Click Steps.
Tap add a device then choose Jawbone UP.
Click Connect, then sign in if it asks and click allow.
Your done!
Now your smartwatch will report steps to the UP app, which in turn will send the data to MyFitnessPal and log your calories burned.
Keep in mind it may take 24 hours for your steps to start showing up in the myfitnesspal app after performing the above steps.
Hi, After my installation i see that i lost information to google fit.. google fit doesn't travk your steps any more. Also i think that Jawbone Up doesn;t track your steps correctly. My watch in fitness watcxh screen shows 868 steps but at the Jawbone up i see doble 17xx...
Can you shere your experience?
P.P. Google Fit start working with steps showed on the fitness watch face.
Steps in jaw bone and Google fit seems to be working fine for me. Let it sit for a few days and see what happens

Best "Wave to unlock" app for Android?

Hi, I'm trying to pick out an app which does one thing and one thing only - simply wave at proximity sensor to wake up the phone so I do not have to use power button while I'm cycling.
I need the app to be as lightweight as possible and go easy on the battery, not to have any other functions only this one. And another thing is that the app would be easily turned off because I will use it just when cycling and I will turn off the app after I'm done.
Thank you.
Try this app called Wave to Unlock and Lock from google play store

Oreo battery settings...Launch???

I just upgraded to Oreo and am wondering what the Launch setting under the Battery section does? With Nougat, I really liked the feature to close apps when the screen turned off. I am not sure what this Launch setting does??
It's clearly written there. It manages, whenever an app can launch, or not based on patterns.

Hi,
How did you configure the settings. Since the update to Oreo I am only getting 3 hours of SOT which is very disappointing.
In general, if I do not want an app to be running in the background or starting on its own i will choose to m it manually an deselect all options?
How do you handle apps that you do want to receive notifications from?
Thank you.
Go to settings -- launch
You can either let the system decide which way is more power saving (manage all automatically) or you can go at the top in setting - launch, it says manage batch manually.
For example
Facebook : auto launch : secondary launch : background launch
If you check auto launch, the Facebook app will run in background as soon as you turn on you system. If you don't check the box, the app will remain stop unless you tap on it
If you check secondary launch which allows other app to wake up Facebook app, if you don't check the box the app will not wake up by other app
If you check background launch, you allow the app to run in the background. If you don't check the box the app will stop after several minutes after you close it( save your battery).

Sorry just extra information, if you still feel the battery drains to quickly, do check at Battery Usage Click Facebook and Terminate App.
This based on my experiment as previous build (360) was okay, but this one (362) a battery drains so noticeable.
I notice that even if you set FB restricted from running background process, it's still running.
Thus, drains your battery much quicker.
As it consume about 138.46 mah which is the highest among all of my app.
Second highest is instagram (114.84 mah)
Other app was below 50.00 mah.
After i terminate it, i can easily reach 2 day ++ (wifi, data but not heavy), 1 day ++ (moderate use : fb, surfing, call, etc), 25 hours ++(heavy : gaming, movies, fb, youtube non-stop)
Only certain apps I manage it as Automatically, others by Manually (uncheck all box).
You can see in the picture attached.
Hope its help you !

Thank you both for the suggestions. I'll give it a try and report back. If I do manage an app manually and uncheck all three boxes I won't receive any push notifications?
I don't use the FB app, battery drainer.
I just use the address: m.facebook.com to launch the mobile version of the site. If I need the full version
I just click the hamburger, check the use full page.

After you close the screen, it'll automatically stop or terminate any background apps. But sometimes depends on the app. Like whatsapp, joox or some of my apps only need to clear the recent apps. Try and experiment. But for fb as i said earlier, after you use it please do terminate it manually.

I use the app Fella for facebook. It work very well and there are many configuration options.
The worst thing it does is prevent internet access to your applications in the background. Even using the Android JobScheduler API, with "SetRequiredNetworkType", and "Enable background data" set for your app, you'll still get connection errors from any code that is run from your scheduled job if the app is not presently in the foreground. It's a horrible feature for app developers to deal with, ugh.

You can't. And even showing a screen prompting or showing users how to do it, can get your app banned by Google Play.
EDIT: My response here was short-sited and premature. You can do something about this, as long as your app meets certain criteria.

Thanks, but if we don't show a message to warning user, they may not know this issue.
Have any function to check the device is current managed automatically or manually?
I just want to show a message in case it's managed automatically.

It looks like you can do it, as long as your app meets an acceptable use case for battery optimization white-listing. If you can tick that box, you can fire an intent REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATION to directly prompt the user to add your app to the whitelist.

Google on Tap no longer available?

Hi all,
I use Google on Tap alot in my studies in order to translate what's on my screen, including images. I did not use it much in December. However I tried using it today and now I can't access Google on Tap, instead it's completely replaced with "Enable Google Assistant", which I DO NOT want, since it lacks the one feature I use most!
Changing to an unsupported English language region used to stop Google Assistant hijacking the long press home, but now it seems that all of the language regions are supported by Google Assistant now.
Google searches show many results for enabling Google Ass, or outdated methods for disabling it.
Does anyone know another way to disable Google Assistant permanently?
Maybe some modification of the settings in Google menu could do the trick. Did you already tried with a simple method like this one https://www.skyneel.com/disable-google-assistant for example?

I can disable Google Assistant, however, previously it would show Google Now on Tap afterwards. Instead, it is completely replaced by the notification from the screenshot. I can find no other way in the Google settings to change back.
Disabling the feed does not disable Google Ass anymore, so that method no longer works.

Yup, that one. It scans a screenshot for names, locations, potential translations etc.
I read that Google Assistant has a "what's on my screen" button but that doesn't show on my phone, and I generally dislike that Google Assistant insists on mic being enabled. (voice search - not my thing - it's so impolite to talk to your phone when 1) in company or 2) in class.)

Ok perfect, got it. Yeah i dislike those mandatory to work permissions too, I've denied everyone of those. Try this so to find that option; go on Google app -> settings -> research from screen, and activate the first option. I think it's technically Google on Tap, but after being disabled by Google Assistant. It's the same frame that Google on Tap uses, you see.

Yeah i saw. That's the maximum i can get by playing with settings in Google app. I'll look around a bit to check if it's possible to deactivate Assistant at all.
