TWRP + MAGISK for our Motorola One Action​
First of all, let me thank to @ilia3367 for his big effort bringing the joy of mod to our phones (One Vision and Action) and my fellow countryman @sfoot13 for his unvaluable help.

Instructions
1- Unlock your Motorola One Action using Motorola's Official Guide.
2- Download this file to your PC.
2.1- Get the latest compilation of your firmware, according to your region, here.
2.2- Unzip the file downloaded on step 2 on c:\adb (you should already have installed ADB, Fastboot and Drivers at this point) and unzip the firmware in a place of your convenience.
3- Copy the files KANE_flash_stock.bat and vbmeta.img (remember, both files are from the file you've downloaded on the step 2) of c:\adb to the firmware folder you unzipped on step 2.2.
3.1- Some firmwares have one more system.img_sparsechunk than others, in case the firmware you've download has 10 system.img_sparsechunk add the follow line (after the 9th system.img_sparsechunk) to the .bat file using any text editor (notepad is ok) and save it:

4- Copy this files (located at c:\adb) to your External SD (mandatory):
Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt.zip
MagiskManager-v7.3.4.apk
Magisk-v19.4.zip
TWRP-3.3.1_Installer_One_Vision.zip
This is where the fun begins.
5- Reboot your phone to bootloader mode.
6- Once detected, execute the KANE_flash_stock.bat you've edited and copied to the firmware folder and wait until the phone reboots to bootloader again (around 2-3 minutes)
7- Open CMD on your computer and type

and when it's done

8- TWRP will boot on your phone, surely in Russian, check the box and swipe to allow modifications on /system. I suggest you to set TWRP on your language (if not Russian of course ), the language setting is on the right column on the third button, and then, the globe icon (the last one), choose your language and set it up using the gray button.
*If you can't get to TWRP the first time, after the Android One Screen, keep pressing volume down and power buttons, when the phone shuts down, release the button power and get into fastboot again and try the command described above (fastboot boot TWRP...). Try until you can get into TWRP recovery, the first time took me around 4-5 times.
8.1- According to your language, go to Install > Select Storage > Micro SD card and flash TWRP-3.3.1_Installer_One_Vision.zip, once it's done, go to the home screen.
8.2- Now tap on Wipe > Format Data > Type Yes and go back to the home screen again.
8.3- Reboot to Recovery.
9- Install > Magisk-v19.4.zip and Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt.zip, go to the home screen and tap on Reboot > Bootloader
9.1- On CMD type

fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta_patch.img
and when it's done, press the power button to start.
10- The phone will show Android One Logo > Unlocked Bootloader warning screen > Android One Logo > It will reboot and will repeat the same process
10.1- After that scary but necessary reboot, it will reach the setup screen and... It will reboot and will repeat the process shown on step 10.
11- Once it reaches the setup screen again it will not reboot again (randoms reboot has been reported, nothing serious, let it reboot and keep it using).
12- Complete setup.
13- Uninstall Magisk Manager and install the APK you've copied to your External SD on step 4.
Now you're rooted.
Thanks for taking the time to read the whole guide and excuse my not-so-well (poor is threshed) english.
The original guide didn't work for me on the part when it says to boot TWRP using fastboot > Wipe Data > boot TWRP via fastboot again, it kept hanging on the Android One screen.

I keep getting stuck on boot screen
Has anyone tried it yet? Because I tried to root the device following the guide but can't get it to boot in twrp. Every time I try to, It gets stuck on the boot screen and Then I have to repair it through moto smart assistant

There's another way to do it.
Download the files and install magisk on your phone.
1. Open magisk and patch your boot.ing
2. Save your patched boot to adb-fastboot folder.
3. Reboot to bootloader.
4. Flash vbmeta.img: fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta.img
5. Flash your patched boot: fastboot flash boot_a PATCHEDBOOT.IMG
6. Flash vbmeta_patched: fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta_patch.img
7. fastboot erase userdata and reboot.
8. Configure your phone and install magisk manager apk.
9. Here, you'll need and app... Franco kernel app, because that app allow you to flash zips without twrp (I don't know a similar app).
10. Open Franco kernel app and install twrp installer zip and reboot.
11. Reboot into FASTBOOT and type fastboot -w after that, select "Reboot Recovery".
12. Now, configure Twrp, change language and format Data (type YES), if you don't format data, you'll end in bootloop.
13. Flash magisk again because the phone was unrooted when twrp installer was flashed and flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt.zip.
14. Reboot and if everything was successfully, you should be rooted with twrp working.
15. Be grateful

If you want to UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE MAGISK, do this:
Download the Magisk version that you need and reboot into recovery.
1. Flash the downloaded Magisk version.
2. Now flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt.zip
3. Reboot.
4. Check if everything is ok.
5. Hit or say "thanks".

I rooted my device and then made this guide, so yes, I "followed" it If you're not able to boot into TWRP then you're missing some steps, like "fastboot -w"

Hi, I just have a little query. My device model number is XT2013-2. Since you performed the aforementioned steps on XT2013-1, do you have any idea whether it will work on my device or not? The sole reason I cannot go ahead and try it myself is that the XT2013-2 is currently not supported by Moto Smart Assistant. So I don't want to leave my device in a bricked state with no workaround. Therefore any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

I bricked my device a few times and never used "Moto Smart Assistant", only fastboot and fastboot commands. In order to achieve root on your device, you should get the firmware (step 2.1). In case you have no luck getting root, you can recover your device using fastboot and fastboot commands.

Got it. Thanks By the way, is there any batch file to execute these all fastboot commands at one go? Because I only know the fastboot commands for flashing all the sparsechunk, .bin and.img files. But on extracting the stock firmware. there seem to be various other files as well, of which I have no clue whatsoever. Neither do I have any idea regarding their fastboot commands.

Yes, download the file attached in the 2nd step in this post and grab the file "KANE_flash_stock.bat" and if the firmware you downloaded for your XT2013-2 has 10 system.img_sparsechunk add the follow line (after the 9th system.img_sparsechunk) to the .bat file using any text editor (notepad is ok) and save it:

It seems my wordings confused you. By saying "these fastboot commands", I was referring to the fastboot commands to be used while flashing the files of the stock firmware and not for the rooting process. The latter part you have already explained quite well in the first post itself. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions

So here are my results
After unlocking the bootloader, I was able to execute the process upto the point we have to boot the TWRP recovery. Although the fastboot command showed the success message while booting to twrp recovery, yet the device got stuck in the Android One screen. So then I had to (obviously) skip the flashing of TWRP zip, Magisk zip, and DM Verity file. I went ahead and flashed the vbmeta file and the device got booted to Android OS without any hiccups. So currently the device works normally but without root (and recovery). The only reason I guess for that is you have tried this on XT 2013-1 whereas mine was XT 2013-2. But still, I don't think that should have made such a glaring difference.
As a side note, please change the TWRP boot command from fastboot boot TWRP-3.3.1_One_Vision.img
to fastboot boot TWRP-3.3.1_Motorola_One_Vision.img. The zip file contains the TWRP recovery with the latter name. Although not a big issue for us, still any new user may get confused with the subsequent error message that will pop up.

I understood you. One of the steps for achieving root is to flash the Stock Firmware (with the patched vbmeta.img), so, If you want to go back to stock, you have to flash the entire firmware using the same commands as described above (with the stock vbmeta.img)

Thanks for the note, I'll change the guide ASAP. If you don't get to TWRP at the first try, you have to reboot into bootloader again (keep pressing the power button and volumen down button until it powers off, release the power button and it should reboot to bootloader), enter fastboot boot TWRP-3.3.1_Motorola_One_Vision.img and see if you can boot into TWRP, if not, try again until you can boot to TWRP (it took me around 3 or 4 times to get TWRP booted on my One Action the first time)

Hi Guys!
Got my Action One today (US User here!) and was pulling out my damn hair!!!
For those who can NOT boot into TWRP double check STEP 3!!! My issue was, even though I copied the extra zip file into the firmware folder, it did NOT overwrite the vbmeta.img so it was still loading the non patched version! Once I saw that the version it was flashing was from 9-16-2019 (For my firmware - RETAIL) and not the one from the zip from 9-26-2019! Once did that, on the second try TWRP booted and volia!
SO OP Please add to check the vbmeta.img is the correct version being flashed if they can not boot to TWRP and thanks for the instructions!

Ok so stupid me (This happened to me on my G5s+. I come from Quark so there was only one possible firmware for the phone since it was a verizon branded firmware) flashed the wrong firmware (RETAIL vs RETUS) but this guys doesn't see to work on the XT2013-4 though. The RETAIL firmware will let me have data but no voice on Verizon.
Any suggestions anyone?

During the original setup, where did it fail? Did it not boot TWRP?

Nothing works. Neither the original setup nor enter TWRP. This available TWRP doesn't even actually install (Failed). I downloaded from the unofficial TWRP site, and this was OKAY but did not boot ... already did and redo the procedure more than ten times ... give up !!!

So you first downloaded and flashed your firmware from the listed and did the sets to add in the extra line of code for it? Did that even complete? Then the fastboot -w? Also you copied over the vbmeta.img in the zip to the firmware folder? Twrp will not boot if that patched file is not there. Also you only boot from twrp not flash it. You don't flash it until later

Also what model of the XT2013 are you uaing? There is XT2013-1 thru XR2013-4.

Root success! Xt2013-2
So I finally rooted my Moto One Action (XT2013-2). I read on many forums that the method of flashing the patched boot.img file gave some kind of validation error for their boot files. But anyhow I went ahead with the very method and was able to successfully root my device. Here are the steps to be followed.
STEPS:

NOTE: USERS HAVING XT 2013-2 (INDIAN VARIANT) MAY DIRECTLY TAKE MY PATCHED BOOT.IMG FILE. IT IS BASED ON THE FIRMWARE VERSION PSBS29.39-23-6
1. Extract the boot.img file from the stock firmware.
2. Patch it via Magisk Manager. The magisk_patched.img file will now be created under the Downloads folder. Move it to the platform-tools folder on your desktop.
3. Reboot to fastboot mode and flash the vbmeta file via fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta.img
4. Now use the fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched.img to flash the patched boot file.
5. Next, flash the vbmeta patched file using fastboot flash vbmeta_a vbmeta_patch.img
6. Then erase user data using fastboot erase userdata
7. Finally fastboot reboot
8 Now set up the device and install the Magisk Manager app.
9. Head over to the Magisk Manager app. It will ask for some additional configurations. Allow it. It will take a minute or two for the Magisk configuration to complete. Once done, your device will automatically reboot once. it's normal.
10. That's it. Your Moto One Action will now be successfully rooted (as already mentioned, the process was carried on the version XT 2013-2.)

How to update OOS 5.1.6, Install official TWRP and magisk - tested working!

Hi guys,
Here is my complete foolproof guide on how to update your system. Please note that there may be other maybe easier ways that cut-out some steps but this worked for me. It is intended for Noobies so I apologise to more advanced users if it seems tedious and long-winded. But that's how Noobies like it with everything explained in detail.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have previously used parallel apps then before doing any of this process you must delete user 999 from the system, otherwise you backups will not work!!!
From a terminal window (I use terminal emulator from play store ) type su and enter. Now type the command pm remove-user 999 and enter. Now you shouldn't have to worry about parallel apps messing up your backups.

Also, please note that I have NEVER previously installed an un-official twrp on my device (wanted to wait for official ), however, I was unlocked, and rooted with magisk v16.0 and on stock oos 5.1.5 before beginning this upgrade process.
If you already have an un-official twrp installed, then I cannot guarantee that this guide will work for you. It might, it might not

Ok, lets get started......................
Actually, before we do let's get one thing clear that is confusing a lot of people regarding fastboot and twrp. There are 2 ways of putting twrp recovery onto your phone. A temporary way (disappears after rebooting and goes back to stock recovery) and a permanent way (the best way that stays put - what we all want right?). This guide assumes that you don't currently have twrp on your phone.
In order to put a permanent official twrp on your phone, first we have to boot (NOT flash!) into a temporary version of twrp. The fastboot command for this is "fastboot boot path_to_temporary_twrp.img" (without the quotes of course )
The difference between temporary twrp and permanent twrp is in whether we either fastboot boot or fastboot flash.
Ok, let's begin
First of all, as a precaution, disable all security on your device like pin, pattern, password, fingerprint. Make sure that when you wake your phone it goes straight to the homescreen without any prompts for pins etc etc. May not be needed but it's what I did
1. Download the following files to the following locations....
a. Official oxygen OS 5.1.6 zip file (full zip) > to root of sdcard .
b. Official twrp installer ZIP file > to root of sdcard. (This is our permanent twrp file)
c. Magisk root zip file (I used v 16.0 but v16.4 zip file should be okay too) > to root of sdcard.
d. Official twrp installer IMG file > to your PC in the same folder as your fastboot files. (This is our temporary twrp file)
These files are available for download in other threads on XDA just search for them.
Once that is done proceed as follows.....
2. Go to settings>system updates and click the gear icon in the top right and choose "local upgrade" and then select the Oxygen 5.1.6 zip file from your sdcard. The system will now begin to update itself. Once finished it will prompt you to reboot, do this, and the system will boot back up into Oxygen OS 5.1.6 :good:
3. Now, long press your power button and select reboot and select bootloader option and your phone will reboot into bootloader (fastboot) mode.
4. On your PC go to your fastboot folder and open a command prompt in that folder (don't forget you previously put the temporary twrp image file in here)
5. Now plug your phone into the PC
6. At the command prompt enter following command fastboot devices
and your phone should show up as connected and recognised.
7. We are now going to boot the phone into the temporary twrp. Type the following command fastboot boot <name of temporary twrp file (from your fastboot folder)>.img
8. Your phone will now boot into the temporary twrp recovery and from here we can now flash the permanent version of twrp that we previously put on our sdcard.
9. On your phone, select Install, then find the twrp zip file on the root of your sdcard, select it and swipe to flash.
10. Once this has flashed successfully, we now need to reboot into this new permanent recovery. DO NOT REBOOT TO SYSTEM AT THIS POINT! Now, select "Reboot" option and select "Recovery". Your phone will now reboot into the new permanent twrp. You can now forget about the other temporary twrp from earlier
11. Once the phone goes back into recovery select Install option and find the Magisk root zip file on your sdcard and select it. Now swipe to flash it. After successfully flashing Magisk, you are now ready to enjoy the fruits of your labours
Go back to the twrp homepage and select Reboot>system.
The system will now boot normally and if you have followed these steps to a Tee you will be on OOS 5.1.6 and rooted!
I have also done a successful twrp backup without any error messages. Your previous data will be untouched and you can now set-up your security again.
One final thing to note - because the boot and recovery partitions are now combined, this means that everytime you flash something to your boot partition, your new permanent twrp recovery will be lost and you will have to re-install twrp again from scratch initially through fastboot.

I've made almost the same without problem
After many years of being actively involved in unlocking, flashing, and tinkering. I feel I'm starting from scratch. This quick guide is exactly what I've been waiting for as I'm in the same situation with being simply unlocked and rooted lol. I'll be replicating these steps shortly ?.
Only thing I'm wondering, once everything is done and running... If I flash a rom with the official "permanent" twrp, it's gone gone? Let's just say, renovate ice ROM?
Maybe it's the 16 hour day I worked and lack of sleep... But having it replaced upon a single rom flash and carrying the name "permanent" seems like 2 opposing ideas lol

If you were to flash a full OTA official update then yes, your "permanent" twrp will be gone because the boot partition gets flashed to stock and you'd need to re-install twrp starting in fastboot. However, for custom rom flashes, it depends if their is a kernel bundled in with the rom. If not then twrp should remain, if yes then as with official update, re-install twrp.
It's more normal for a custom rom to simply overwrite system partition without touching boot partition and twrp, but, sometimes custom rom's like Renovate come bundled with a kernel (TBalden's) and wipe out twrp.

Thank you sir. And great write up btw
Something to note is the Renovate ICE 1.0 magisk module messed with the text in settings on OOS 5.1.6. It went back to normal when I disabled that module.
I thought it was the VoEnabler module initially but I wasnt correct.
I put the zip in the root folder (Not the actual folder named root) but the local upgrade isn't showing anything in there.
I'm on 5.1.5 rooted with Magisk 16.0 and have 5.7 magisk manager installed along with xposed and gravity box.
Any idea why my local upgrade isn't detecting the upgrade zip? I downloaded it from Funk Wizards post. I got clicked the "official" link for OOS 5.1.6
I have a custom kernel and magisk installed, can I still follow this guide?

I put the zip in the root folder (Not the actual folder named root) but the local upgrade isn't showing anything in there.
I'm on 5.1.5 rooted with Magisk 16.0 and have 5.7 magisk manager installed along with xposed and gravity box.
Any idea why my local upgrade isn't detecting the upgrade zip? I downloaded it from Funk Wizards post. I got clicked the "official" link for OOS 5.1.6

Figured it out, it was because the ro.product.device=OnePlus 6 instead of OnePlus6 in the build.prop file.
I had originally changed it to sailfish to see if I can get Daydream working. When I changed it back I accidentally added a space =/
Anyone done this on a phone with unofficial TWRP to start out yet?

Yes you can.
Considering that many of us have been rooted with patched boot image and no custom recovery, this guide is very well written.

Could be a corrupt download file. I suggest you do the following.....
Re-download the file and check it's good using an MD5 checker app/tool. Then, boot your phone into bootloader (fastboot) mode by powering off first and then pressing and holding the vol up button.
Then follow steps 4-to-10 in my guide for installing (1st) temporary twrp and then (2nd) permanent twrp. Once you have permanent twrp and are booted into it you should then copy the "new" download zip for the OTA that you md5 checked from your PC onto the root of your sdcard and install it by flashing the zip file in twrp. Now you should reboot to system which will change the active slot to the updated OOS you just flashed and then if you want boot back into recovery to flash a custom kernel (if you so wish) and Magisk root zip (again if you so wish).

Followed the procedure: Installed EX Kernel as well. Now I'm getting a popup message after every reboot: There's an internal problem with your device. Contact your manufacturer for details.

[Treble][Pie]A full guide on how to install 9.0 GSI on Razer Phone on both A/B

I found linuxct's guide (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/how-to/treble-install-generic-image-gsi-razer-t3770684) need to be modified to get 9.0 GSI working (at least in my circumstance). I haven't tried any Oreo Gsi but to my case, I can't properly booted to 9.0 Gsi by following exactly to this guide. That's why I want to write my own processes of getting it works. Hope it's useful to some of you.
0) I strongly recommend you to flash back to stock image from razer, if you have messed up with the partitions. !!THIS WIPES YOUR DATA, PLEASE BACKUP THE INTERNAL STORAGE!!

After flashing to stock, it should automatically reboot into the system.

4) In TWRP, tap Wipe and do a factory wipe. DON'T CHANGE THE DEFAULT WIPE SETTINGS.
5) Flash the GSI you have, then reboot to bootloader.
6) Extract and copy the stock boot image from Razer to the adb tool folder, and flash the boot.img by command:

7) Reboot to the stock recovery, and do factory wipe, then reboot to bootloader.
This will decrypt the /data. (I am not sure why if I do it under TWRP, I can never boot into system, but that's the case.)
8) Flash the prebuilt image from linuxct again by command:

9) Reboot to the system by command:

fastboot reboot
And whola, you should be able to boot into system without any decryption message. And you will have a partially functional TWRP.
If you need to flash any other GSI next time, you should first copy the GSI image through MTP in system. Because the TWRP doesn't support adb command and can't be mounted as MTP.
Once you have copied the GSI image, you can reboot into TWRP and flash image as usual.
Here are the photos proving this works. I flashed Pixel Dust first through the command and booted. Then I reboot into TWRP and flashed PixelExperience through TWRP and get it booted.

Can't image I figured out to flash the second system_b so quickly lol.
0) In system_a, reboot to bootloader by command: adb reboot bootloader
1) Flash the GSI you have to system_b: fastboot flash system_b [The GSI you have]
2) Flash the stock boot image to boot_b: fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
3) Set active partition to B: fastboot --set-active=b
This is where I found linuxct's guide tricky because it should be 'b'.
'_b' doesn't work.
4) Reboot to stock recovery: fastboot reboot
5) Do a factory wipe, then go back to bootloader
6) Flash the prebuilt image to boot_b: fastboot flash boot_b boot_linuxct_20180420_cheryl_omr0.img
7) Reboot to the recovery: fastboot reboot
And it will brings you to TWRP on B partition, and you can reboot to system_b now.
And whola, and now you can have both AB system with different GSI. And you can switch to any partition by going to TWRP on either partition and switch as you like!
Here are the photos proving I have Pixel Experience and Pixel Dust working seperately on two partitions.
I also found that the prebuilt boot image from linuxct is breaking the wifi. Till now, you should have the TWRP patched boot image on both AB partition. So fixing that is pretty straightfoward.
1) Copy the stock boot image and TWRP installer zip to your phone in system.

I used the 3.2.1 version.
2) Boot into TWRP by command: adb reboot recovery
3) Flash stock boot.img on both A/B partition.
You can do this by first flash it to Slot A, and switch to B in TWRP. NO NEED TO REBOOT, SIMPLY SWITCH SLOT IN TWRP!!
4) Flash the twrp zip file.
This should fix your wifi.
DON'T FLASH MAGISK! I found flashing even the latest magisk v18.0 breaks wifi again.
So could you have stock on slot a and another GSI on slot b?
Magisk still breaking WiFi and 4g? I played around with 9.0 gsi's ages ago and that was the only thing stopping me from using it. Have anyone tried the latest canary builds of magisk also?

Since A/B systems are using a common /data partition, I think you can at most flash an 8.1 Oreo on another slot because the stock image is 8.1. And this breaks the OTA of stock, so pretty meaningless.
It worked for me following the guide unfortunately had to go back to stock (no WiFi) shame was looking good too thanks for the guide though helped at least getting system up and booting

Apologies for not clearing one thing up,I installed android 8.1 and it all

Using an MR0 image on MR3 is not recommended, and using Magisk will break RIL (data connectivity) and WiFi.
If you want to run Pie GSIs, forget about using Magisk and run phh-su. Lastly, if you want your front camera and Bluetooth A2DP to work, use latest phh-gsi image v109. Using older versions than v108 is discouraged for breaking the mentioned.
Current status:
1. Cheryl specific overlays are not yet merged into phh source code because I'm a lazy assh*le. If you want your device to have Adaptive brightness, gestures, and fix the strong vibration, place the following apk inside /system/overlay or /vendor/overylay
2. Razer Power Service and NFC are faulty and will spam your logcat, which may, in the end, reduce your battery life. You need to extract [email protected] from both /system/lib and /system/lib64 from Razer's stock ROM and place them respectively into /vendor/lib and lib64. I've conveniently extracted them for you (Folder named 32's file should be extracted onto /vendor/lib and folder named 64's file should be extracted onto /vendor/lib64).
To kill NFC until we find a proper solution, go into your GSI's filesystem path /system/app/NfcNci and delete or change NfcNci.apk's filename into anything else, like NfcNci.bak.
3. Common to MSM8998, and I believe several other Qcomm based smartphones, Bluetooth In-Call audio is not working, and audio gets redirected to Earpiece.
4. Everything. Else. Works.

As an extra, if you would like to erase your data/userdata partition without messing up with recoveries, you could just issue the following fastboot command:

Where 0xc72dd3000 is the userdata partition size with FBE enabled.
If you are running a bootimage without FBE, the partition size might be 0xC72DD7000, so the command would be:

Tried multiple android 9 GSI roms and some boots but no wifi and data (some don't even boot).
Wifi fix (works on Arrow OS) on post #4 doesn't work. After flashing twrp 3.2.1.0, the phone does not boot on any android 9 GSI roms. Anyway thanks for your work trying to make GSI work on Razer phone.

Hints
If you need to update TWRP or Magisk, always keep older versions of both in hand(Magisk canary or beta may have issues)
Remove your lockscreen protection which also removes encryption to prebvent mounting issues within TWRP
Before proceeding
Your Windows PC should already recognized your device with the USB cable
Use an USB cable provided with the phone
Make sure your Windows Explorer is set up to have file extensions enabled to avoid file name issues
This process will FORMAT/WIPE/DELETE your internal storage and every file of your phone, so please back it off your device at first!
Also keep a boot.img from your current system in place if anything went wrong so you can flash it via fastboot, see "Rooting without TWRP" for how to get it.

2. Download the FULL OxygenOS Rom zip(The version your phone is running) and extract the payload.bin
3. Put payload.bin to "payload_input" folder o the extracted tool
4. Run payload_dumper.exe from the tool's folder
5. Extracted img files are in "payload_output" folder
6. Now you have your own boot.img for your Rom
7. Copy it to your phone
8. Patch the boot.img with Magisk directly on your device: Magisk Manager App -> hit install after your Magisk version -> hit "Select and Patch a file"
9. Copy the patched boot.img (it should be in the Download folder of your device named something like "magisk_patched-22100_bjjRn.img") back to your PC
10. Reboot your device to fastboot
11. Flash the patched magisk_patched-22100_bjjRn.img

There's something different after unlocking the bootloader(which is the same). Twrp and magisk installation is different due to treble.
For EFS you can backup with twrp or local terminal
dd if=/dev/block/sdf2 of=/sdcard/modemst1.bin bs=512

You need to do all steps. I recommend to flash the custom kernel when you've sucessfully booted the device at first.

I think i messed up real bad, now when iam booting the phone, a message comes, your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot.

That message is the bootloader unlocked warning and comes every time as soon as you unlocked the bootloader.
Flashing DM verity patch can only be done when you format internal storage which wipes everything of your internal storage. You can't "decrypt" your existing data permanently with this.

Sadly it didn't worked, as phone doesn't gets detected on pc, keeps on rebooting. Gave it to service center and they are also not able to solve it ??. So a replacement for me ?
Edit : i think the force decryption was the culprit. When i rebooted, system was crashing. Op3t had its specific force decrypt file, not a general one, So i think as the development moves forward, op7 will also get it's own. Hoping the best ?

This file also works on OP7 pro, so it should also work on normal op7. I think the issue comes from something other.

Then there must be some issue with my flashing sequence. Btw, The service centre repaired the issue and i have rooted it and using bluespark with stock rom. I'll give the zip another try later on when a new update comes. Thanks for the help

[Guide][Installation][Fix]Switching from stock ROM to custom ROMs + Installing stock ROM after a brick or other Failures ( Mi A2 Lite - Daisy)

This guide is general guide for the installation of custom ROMs. I will also include guide to install stock ROM on devices which have been bricked or for solving various problem which you may encounter in custom ROMs. There are other guides for the same purpose but most of them are outdated and many of you seem to ignore old guide despite the fact that those guides can be helpful.
This is guide is only relevant for installation of custom ROMs which were released up to the date of posting this guide or up to android version 11. Recovering a bricked device can be done in the same way as to this one but installation instruction for devices with android version greater than 11 may differ.

EDL FLASHING (For windows only)​
EDL flashing can be helpful when flashing every partition of device is needed either for clean stock base or after brick or after some failure.
EDL flashing can be the final resort when everything else fails.
PREREQUISITES
1) A good USB cable, your phone
2) A PC with either windows or linux
3) Fastboot drivers from google and edl drivers from qualcomm
4) Platform tools from google
5)Fastboot rom. This should be full rom in .tgz format.
6)Xiaomi flash tool (LATEST VERSION AVAILABLE)
Install the adb and fastboot drivers from google. If you are on windows 10 or greater then you can also use "windows update > optional updates" to update adb and fastboot drivers + edl drivers. For the installation of drivers always use trusted sources and don't turn of driver signature enforcement if you can.
Extract the platform tools in a convenient folder, we will be doing our operations from this folder for fastboot and adb opeartions. Extract the fastboot ROM and place that in convenient folder as well. And for xiaomi flash tool extract the zip and launch XiaoMiFlash.exe .
If you can access fastboot in you phone then the phone can be booted into edl mode through fastboot else you have to take out back cover and short the testpoint pins to make the device boot into edl mode (see the attached image ).
If you can access fastboot. Boot into fastboot and type the following command in terminal.
To check if device is connected properly and drivers are properly installed
If no devices is shown then connect device properly with good usb cable and check the drivers.

To boot phone into edl mode. This is only possible if the bootloader is unlocked else testpoint-edl is the only option

The device should be shown as COM device in device manager ( Windows ). If not then either drivers aren't installed properly or your phone isn't in edl mode.
Now click on refresh button in xiaomi flash tool. Your device should be recognized as com device. Set the path to the images folder ( extracted fastboot rom ). Select CLEAN ALL option . If everything is good then click
on FLASH. The flashing process should start now. After the process completes keep pressing power button to boot device into the currently installed ROM.
Just install the rom and setup once even if you're going to flash custom rom next. This reduces various problems which may come in custom ROMs.
If any error occurs then try the following:
Make sure you are using latest flash tool.
Good fastboot rom (shouldn't be corrupted )
Good USB cable and try different ports of the PC.
The flashing should be done immediately after booting to edl. If not then take out battery and reconnect it if you have back cover open(In case of hard brick). Or keep pressing power button and volume down to boot into fastboot and boot to edl mode again from the above instructions(If fastboot is accessible)
For booting to edl using testpoint:
> Take out backcover
> Disconnect battery
> Short the pins
> Flash
> Connect battery after flashing is complete
> Keep pressing power button to boot into system.

If any error occurs the search for particular error. Most of the times the error is due to corrupted fastboot ROM or bad connection between phone and PC.
FINALLY! FLASHING CUSTOM ROM​
STEP 0
Flash(if not flashed already) the stock base recommended by particular ROM, if the ROM doesn't recommend a specific stock base flash 10.0.18.0 from the above instructions.
PREREQUISITES
TWRP or ORANGE FOX RECOVERY
Fastboot drivers and platform tools (details above )
The ROM which you want to flash, choose from here
GAPPS package if rom is vanilla and you want to install it.
Magisk if you want to root.
As you may have known by experience, our device doesn't have recovery partition so, flashing recovery through fastboot isn't possible. For flashing recovery first we need to boot recovery image and then only we can flash it.
If you want to use twrp:
Download both twrp*.zip and twrp*.img and place it in a convenient place.
If you want to use orange fox recovery:
Download orangeFox*.zip and extract it.
Keep both the .zip and .img file in convenient place.
If you have sdcard then copy ROM file, gapps, magisk, twrp or orange fox files into sdcard.
If not then there will be further instructions.
Now, connect the phone to the PC via USB and enable usb debugging. And open terminal in the platform tools folder as in above instructions.
Check device connectivity:

Reboot into fastboot:

Lets check if the bootloader is unlocked:

If bootloader isn't unlocked you won't be able to flash custom recovery into the device. So, first unlock the bootloader. This should be allowed in the developers option of your phone first. This will factory reset the device.

Now if everything is good then it's time to boot into custom recovery:

recover.img is name of image of whichever custom recovery you want to use.

It's like this in my case. You can drag and drop after typing fastboot boot
The phone should now boot into custom recovery. If it ask for decryption then your lockscreen password should work there.
if you want to flash recovery only then find the recovery.zip you want and flash it.
The steps further is also valid for moving between different custom roms. The term used for such process is CLEAN FLASH.
For Flashing custom ROMS :
SOMETIMES FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS MAY DIFFER SO, BE SURE TO CROSS CHECK FOR INSTRUCTION IN ROM SPECIFIC XDA THREAD OR TELEGRAM GROUP
The following action will wipe userdata if not wiped already. Be sure to backup data before these steps. Also if you encounter any future problems full backup from custom recovery may be able to solve most of the problems. So, be sure to keep full backup(including every partition) of your device.
Go to main menu > wipe > select all except internal storage and microSD.
Swipe right to perform wipe.
Install custom recovery by flashing recovery.zip
(This is done in case adb push doesn't work below and sdcard isn't available for flashing)
Again go to main menu > wipe > format data
Type yes and press enter.
If you don't have files in your sdcard then:
push rom file + gapps + other files into your device through adb push.
The command will be something like this:

If adb push fails to work then you can reboot recovery and simply copy the files through file explorer.
Reboot to recovery only if you had installed recovery after wiping system else the device will soft brick
Now flash the rom.zip by selecting the file and swiping right.
Flash custom recovery if the ROM doesn't contain recovery
We have to change current slot even if we don't want to flash anymore things.
Latest recoveries changes slot automatically So, go to main menu > reboot > recovery
Now flash files which you want to flash i.e. gapps and magisk.
Again, Don't flash gapps if the ROM is of Gapps variant
Most of the roms now have implemented FBE (File Based Encryption ). So, you need to format data before rebooting to system. Again, check for specific ROM installation instruction if that is required or not. If you keep data from previous ROM that won't be considered a clean flash so, for proper clean flash format data before rebooting to system.

MOVING BETWEEN DIFFERENT VERSION OF SAME CUSTOM ROM
Dirty flash or OTA ​
Most of the newer ROMs have seamless update ( even the unofficial ones ). The OTA update is simple. Just go to updater ( in settings > system or native app, depends upon the rom). If your ROM is of vanilla version then make sure gapps and/or magisk which you have installed, your ROM and custom recovery all support addon.d survival script. If they don't then you may have to flash everything again after update process is complete.
If custom recovery itself doesn't support update then you may need to choose different recovery or dirty flash ROM from the recovery. Don't worry most of the roms and both the recoveries for daisy support OTA and addon.d survival.
DIRTY FLASH​The process of flashing a ROM on top of existing one keeping the /data partition intact is known as dirty flashing. Such flashing must be done only on different builds of same ROM and it isn't recommended to flash build of lower version on top of higher version.
The steps for dirty flashing:
Download the update package.
Reboot to recovery
Enter password for decryption if encrypted.
Flash the update.zip package.
Reboot recovery, if recovery/rom doesn't support survival of recovery then flash recovery before rebooting to recovery.
If gapps and/or magisk survival isn't supported then flash gapps and magisk, make sure gapps is of the same type which was flashed before.

2)Changing of slot is done in custom recovery. Precisely in the reboot menu. But newer recoveries automatically switch the slot after flashing the rom , just be sure to reboot to recovery after flashing the recovery zip file.
3) the flash_all.bat script will be inside the extracted rom(fastboot rom) folder. You can use xiaomiflash too for flashing through fastboot.

This guide deals with how to do something rather than what to do, meaning you should always do what particular rom suggests but the way to do this is mentioned here.
edl or fastboot flashing comes under clean flashing with new base, most of the time you aren't required to do this.
The script should be clean_all.bat or something similar just don't execute script with lock in the name(it will lock the bootloader)
And if you're already on the recommended base you don't have to flash the fastboot rom.
First of all, thank you very much for the detailed guide. What you have done here took a lot of work to do but it will help a lot of people (including me) to understand, albeit rudimentarily, the structures and functions of the devices etc.

I followed your "EDL FLASHING" post (#2) and it worked exactly as you mention!
In short, I was comming from unsuccessful flashing... but this is out of topic.
For me, did not worked the first time (after restarts) but the other day worked perfect.
The point is, most of times, it's becase windowz drivers.
We have to point that windowz needs their time to take the drivers in place. So, be patient and leave windowz to (not forced) restart(s).

For future references, the extracted fastboot ROM should be like this and you need to execute flash_all.bat or flash_all.sh script depending upon your OS or terminal.

There is not such a directories in my miA2Lite phone. Obviously, it's because you are on Linux or Mac (UNIX). On Windowz 'command prompt' syntax it's slightly different.
Thus, I typed fastboot boot "/sdcard/twrp-3.5.2_9-2-daisy-unofficial.img"
* /sdcard is the root of <internal storage> directory.
** On Windows, double quote the address, if it's include spaces.

The twrp image was on my pc(linux) i was booting directly from pc's terminal. And if you use only adb(or fastboot) then the paths are pc's absolute paths.

Allow system to boot and wait for the update to complete. You must let the system do this before proceeding.

Note: You can use Payload Dumper to extract the contents of the OTA if you want to manually patch the new boot image. However, I will not cover that in this guide.

Once this completes, you can reboot to bootloader and either boot your master patched image, or if you patched the new image, flash it at this time.

PixelFlasher by @badabing2003 is an excellent tool that streamlines the update process - it even patches the boot image for you.
The application essentially automates the ADB interface to make updating and rooting much easier. However, it is STRONGLY recommended that you still learn the "basics" of using ADB.

Spoiler: Pass SafetyNet/Play Integrity
SafetyNet has been deprecated for the new Play Integrity API. More information here.
In a nutshell, Play Integrity uses the same mechanisms as SafetyNet for the BASIC and DEVICE verdicts, but uses the Trusted Execution Environment to validate those verdicts. TEE does not function on an unlocked bootloader, so legacy SafetyNet solutions will fail.
However, @Displax has modified the original Universal SafetyNet Fix by kdrag0n; his mod is able to force basic attestation instead of hardware, meaning that the device will pass BASIC and DEVICE integrity.
Mod available here. Do not use MagiskHide Props Config with this mod.
This is my configuration that is passing Safety Net. I will not provide instructions on how to accomplish this. Attempt at your own risk.

Points of note:
The boot image is NOT the bootloader image. Do not confuse the two - YOU are expected to know the difference. Flashing the wrong image to bootloader could brick your device.
While the Magisk app is used for patching the boot image, the app and the patch are separate. This is what you should see in Magisk for functioning root:

"Installed" shows the version of patch in the boot image. If this says N/A, you do not have root access - the boot image is not patched, or you have a problem with Magisk.
"App" simply shows the version of the app itself.
If you do not have a patched master boot image, you will need to download the factory zip if you haven't already, extract the system update inside it, then patch boot.img.
If you prefer updating with the factory image, you can also extract and manually patch the boot image if desired.
Some Magisk modules, especially those that modify read only partitions like /system, may cause a boot loop after updating. As a general rule, disable these modules before updating. You are responsible for knowing what you have installed, and what modules to disable.

As many of you know by now, in order to run a patched boot image on Android 12 requires disabling Android Boot Verification.
On Android 12, disabling verity and verification will require a data wipe if it hasn't been done before. What seems to "lock" the state of boot verification is booting into system; so, if you perform an update, or flash vbmeta without the disable flags, then reboot into Android, you have essentially enabled boot verification and will require a wipe to disable it again. Confusing, I know.
Here is the appropriate update process. DO NOT take the automatic OTA if you are rooted. If you allow the phone to reboot after an update without disabling boot verification, you will have to wipe in order to disable it again, as you would need to for a patched boot image.
***Note***: The boot image doesn't have to be patched before you perform the update. Some have found it works better to update, THEN patch the boot image.
OTA Sideload:
1. Download both the OTA and the factory zip.
2. Extract vbmeta.img and boot.img from the factory zip.
3. Patch the boot image and copy it back to your computer.
4. Reboot to recovery and sideload the OTA: select Apply Update via ADB, then on your PC:

6. Reflash vbmeta to disable boot verification:

Android Flash Tool:

2. Extract boot.img
3. Patch the boot image and copy it back to your computer.
4. Reboot to bootloader.
5. Follow the instructions on the Android Flash Tool to update your device. The ONLY boxes you should check are "Disable Verity" and "Disable Verification"
6. When the update completes, the phone will reboot to system without root.
7. Reboot to bootloader and flash patched boot image:

8. Reboot to system.
REMEMBER: The most critical part of this is making sure verity and verification are disabled during the update process before the phone reboots. If you forget to patch the boot image, that's OK - you don't have to flash /boot right after update.
If you have trouble with the patched boot image, simply flash /boot back to stock and allow Android to boot, then re-patch and re-flash the boot image.
You can also, if you want, boot the patched image instead of flashing it:

This is considered "temporary boot" as it loads the image from your PC rather than from device storage. You can use this to confirm root works, and if you so desire, you can then perform Direct Install in Magisk.

I used the Android Flash Tool method to update to the November build, and followed the instructions precisely. It worked flawlessly. My deny list is exactly the same in Magisk, and all my modules are working perfectly. I didn't even have to disable them. I think I will use this method from now on.

Yes. The root process is exactly the same for the 4a 5g, 5, and 5a. The update process is the same across all Pixel devices.
I patched the boot.img. Magisk 23 did not report errors. But size of the patched file is zero. This looks not promising...

I think it's safer to unroot/remove Magisk and modules when going from 11 to 12 right? Some modules might not be compatible with 12 causing bootloops.

You're going to have to wipe /data anyway if you intend to root on Android 12. Unless you're willing to try an idea I have.

Did you use Magisk canary? It is not necessary to check wipe in the android flash tool?
I use standard Magisk and can not change the update path to canary

No i use the beta version of magisk.
You need wipe only for update from Android 11 to Android 12.
Just follow the guide for update to november and enjoy

I want to upgrade from 11 (oktober) to 12
In the first message from this thread concerning the flash tool there was no wipe mentioned.
I want to update keeping my data ! How to proceed?
The best way: save yours photos etc with your Google account and make a fresh install with Factory image on Android 12 ( with disable verity and vérification)
It's long for set up device but 100% of chance of work with no issues for futurs update
Sûre you Can try to update without wipe and disable verity and vérification but maybe bootloops or not
