Is the Best buy Variant unlockable? - Google Pixel 3a Questions & Answers

Has any purchased the pixel 3a from Best buy and unlocked it? Or is Verizon locked like previous version?

Best buy sells every version including Google version. Buy the Google version. I unlocked mine no problem.

I bought the unlocked version from BB and unlocked the bootloader with:
fastboot flashing unlock
Of course after ticking all necessary options on dev options.

I have the VZW version, thus needed to unlock the bootloader with depixel8. I know that depixel8 will not work on 7.1.1 if currently locked. However, I would have you check to see if the Google version allows unlocking. I'm thinking the Google version is unlockable without the need to use depixel8...but please search around and check.

The EE model works the same as the Verizon model. You can not unlock the bootloader once it is on 7.1.1

Yes but since the EE model is not a Google one that means that I can't unlock it and I can't downgrade

Ok ok thank you for the fast reply, so it's more clever to not buy it
Is this problem just related to EE/Verizon phones? Will other mobile operators like O2 allow booltoader unlock, even on 7.1.1?
Sorry to somewhat hijack this thread but, my Pixel was sent from EE, however the cid is 11111111. Doesn't this mean it's not a "carrier phone" and that its bootloader can be unlocked?
p.s Does this mean a percentage of pixels sent out by EE are essentially carrier-free phones?
Edit: Never mind "OEM unlocking" is greyed out in Developer Options.
for 7.1.1 on ee inferno box/dongle thing seems to work, so its not impossible, just you currently need someone with the hw until a software fix comes out. that may or may not happen. i'm currently trying to find a way as my phone is EE and I have an old sim from '3' i still pay for which has unlimited data.... you can see why i want to unlock....(and its is unlimited, when i had no internet at home for a month i smashed 163gb over the sim....)

Unable to update to Oreo

Hi,
I recently bought HTC U11 and have been using it with AT&T. U11 is an international unlocked version. Although most of the websites claim international versoin had gottent Oreo update, I do not see the update when check from the phone. What is the best way to update?
Thanks,
./Siva.

Ok. How can I say my phone is US unlocked or international? I believe mine is international, since I bought it from EBay, would be good know.
In settings, about, software information, software number.
Must be x.xx.401.xx to be eu worldwide edition.
617 is the US unlocked/dev edition.
I didn't realize there were 2 different versions of the unlocked phone. I bought mine used (practically new as the guy only used it a couple weeks) a couple weeks ago and as soon as I started setting it up I got the update to Oreo. After reading your post I checked my software version and it is indeed 617, so I have the US version (which is great considering I'm in the US lol).

Best Buy Pixel 4a Rootable?

Searched around and couldn't find any answer to this question. Is the Pixel 4a bought at best buy rootable? Thanks.
I bought mine from Telus and I straight up asked the guy if they lock down the bootloader, he said no and I can confirm that to be the case. OEM unlocking is available in settings after enabling developer, though I haven't actually done it yet.
I don't think any Canadian carrier locks the bootloader

Unlocked version doesn't mean bootloader unlockable, it means sim card unlocked.
Pixel 2 "unlocked" version from Best Buy was not bootloader unlockable.
To anyone who's looking for this information, I can confirm the Best Buy variant of the Pixel 4a is bootloader unlockable.

I already stated that in my previous post that it was boot loader unlocked if you buy the unlocked version from Best Buy.
Thanks for your forum service and confirming again ???

which model has bootloader unlock?

I'm in USA and on Verizon. No matter how much digging on the forums I'm not sure I can ever be sure which exact version of the 8t would be the carrier unlocked international version with available bootloader unlock and root available. Hoping someone could provide with that info, thanks!
If you buy it directly from OP you should be good to go. Just make sure it's not been purchased through T-Mobile and hardware model KB2007.
KB2005

Why TMobile? Is there not an equilvalent, for example to my V30 that was a non-carrier branded unlocked international model? And Sykojoe mentioned the KB2005, which one is that? I'll admit I haven't even looked up yet.

I'm saying if you are NOT a T-Mobile customer, don't buy a phone that is locked to the T-Mobile network. You need to get them to SIM unlock it then you need to get a bootloader unlock token from OnePlus before you'll be able to flash any other ROMs.
KB2005 is the international version from OnePlus. That is the one you want to get. If the model number is KB2007 it's from T-Mobile.

Come to think of it, is there even a AT&T branded Pixel Pro?
If you buy it from AT&T, it's not unlockable until the SIM is unlocked after meeting their requirements.
oh i bought the global version. just hope i dont ever have to resort to att versions ever again. i still use their sim card however.
