Any clever ideas on how we can disable the ripple effect for FP unlock? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Themes, Apps, and Mods

Just as the title says, the default ripple animation is a bit lame, low FPS, and seems to generally slow things down more than it provides anything useful. Any clever ideas on how to disable it or replace it with something that performs a bit better?

You can try disabling the unlock animation in settings, biometrics and security, biometric options.
It does not remove the riple effect but makes it much faster to unlock the phone.

Yeah I wish there was an option to get rid of it.

If it was not there, people would try adding it ??

just use the pattern, you will be fine!!!!

There doesn't seem to be any way to remove that yet, I agree it's lame, stutters and gives galaxy S3 vibes when Samsung was obsessed with water.

Biometrics and security -> Biometrics preferences -> Screen transition effect
I also have it off, its so much better and smoother without it for fingerprint unlocking.

Thanks for your tip, but that does not disable the ripple effect. That only disables the screen transition, which to me is almost imperceptible difference. Finger scan animation delay appears to be a much more significant factor.

I hate it too and wish there was an option.
We should write Samsung (Twitter, E-Mail,..). Maybe they'll listen.

They still haven't added in the "notification LED" fix which about 85% of people are complaining about. I don't know why they would focus on allowing users to remove an animation.
Has anyone tried increasing the animation speed in the developer settings? I adjusted mine a long time ago and I don't find the ripple effect that annoying, but to each his own.

Hi There,
I'm also looking for a tool to remove the ripple effect on FP unlock.
It is absolutely useless...

Improving viewing angles for Locked Bootloaders

Hey guys!
Good news for those ones who have locked bootloaders! Install this app: Screen Filter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
It works with White Balance and can improve screen viewing angles! No need custom ROM, specific Kernel or Root!
Try it!
Thumbs up for the developers of Haxor!
Just remember that the app works like as gamma control of DoomKernel, which also tends to darken the display.. Just see my other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2710684
Cheers!
This is just wrong -.-
It's a screen dimmer just because when you dim your screen you can see some stuff better at an angle doesn't mean that you improved viewing angels
Doesn't work.

So, you say that "you can see some stuff better at an angle", doesn't that literally mean "improved viewing angles", which essential IS seeing things better at an angle?
Yes I think dimming the screen is not such a great solution, but better than nothing. Technically, it does improve viewing angles to an extent.

The brightness level can be adjusted in the application, so that does not become so dark, you have tested?
For those who have the locked bootloader is a breakthrough yes! I invite people to test.
Cheers!
Not really a breakthough, I used this app about a year ago. Its nothing amazing...It just dims the screen, ideal if you use your phone as alarm clock in a dock and you cant dim the screen enough with the native brightness control. But that's it
And unsure why you think this is a breakthough for locked bootloaders. The app is compatible with android 1.6+ and has never needed an unlocked bootloader to work
This application works like this that was shown in the video of Anirudh Srinivas:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PqJYw8ci6c
For me, it works better because it works on all display, including in the softkey area.
Cheers

What im trying to say is
Dimmed Angle is better when Dimmed
But Bright Angle is better than Dimmed Angle
The intent was to help people who do not want to unlock the bootloader. It is quite obvious that the app works for both Locked or unlocked bootloaders, needless to say. Let the people test.
Not everyone knows the application or have tried something like that, and not everyone here is a developers or advanced users.
I tested the app, liked and saw some improvement in the display.
Let's be more friendly here and less kicking in the colleagues ass ok?
Sorry, not having a go..just wondering why this was meant ot be a breakthough
Of course people can test themselves

Agreed....
It allows you to lower the brightness more than normal, WOW what a breakthrough.....
The viewing angles issue is a hardware one, sorry but lowering the brightness is not solving anything. The issue is using crappy tft technology. That being said it is still miles ahead of the original xperia z, the display on that was so bad I got rid of it after about a week.

[Q] Sooo laggy...

Love the look and feel of the phone. But, its really really slow and lags ALOT. I've factory reset three times now and no difference. Really frustrating because I wanna love this phone. No one seems to mention this in any reviews. I have the t-mobile version btw. Any ideas?

I find it has a little more lag than the S5 I had, not enough to return it. Maybe Lollipop might fix, or a small update from Samsung.

I guess maybe root will make it better. Or wait for OTA update. Early review do mention the lag and wish official launch module can be better. Seems not the case here.

So you root the phone and disable lots of staff, does it lag still?
Honestly the only lag i see is when clicking on recents button. It takes a sec or 2 to show. I am rooted, xposed, using Wanam, Gravity Box, and Blurred System Ui modules. Couple of my own mods and i removed all apks i do not use, froze sfinder in tibu.
Make sure you unlock development options by tapping on build# a few times in settings about, then lower all 3 animation values to .5 and make sure gpu rendering os UNCHECKED. Then go into svoice and click settings. In svoice settings UNCHECK open svoice via home key. Those 2 things should def help you a bit, and is pretty much as far as you can go without root. Also dl Greenify and hibernate all iser apps only. GL hope it gets better for you. If you need help with anything pm me.

I don't get any lag. It's faster note 3 and just flows smoothly.
I did disable s voice, flipbook, lookout, and all tmobil crap tho.
I notice a bit of lag when in Facebook/Messenger and when I type really fast on the stock Samsung keyboard it seems to lag a bit and tries to catch up, resulting in typos.
How do you disable Flipboard?
T-mobile note 4 here, had a white note 4 about a week ago and in comparison, just as smooth if not smoother. Also sidenote, build quality is so much better, perfect screen and bezel levels, note 4 was uneven all the way around.

I haven't noticed any lag to point of where it is annoying. You should just return the phone, and get something else. There are a lot of other phones to choose from, but none of them are like the Note Edge.

The build quality is not flaw. The metal is there to add strength to design of the edge. I had a Note 3 and the Edge is better than it in every way.
I am liking the edge as well but too can attest to the lag after root. I have to mod if i can. But still worth it. Thanks CHAIN

Stock, non rooted. It's weird any browser I use just lags. Slow response to any touches. My stock non rooted note 3 runs much smother side by side on all major browsers. Might try to maybe call up t-mobile for a replacement. Already disabled all unnecessary apps too.

Please samsung change this in your UI

I am an old HTC fan and user since the Nexus One 7 years in a row, I barely used another brand in all these years, one time it was the S2 and another it was the S6, both lasted 1 month with me as I hated the plastic build of the S2 and the horrible UI of the S6. This year I got the S8 instead of the U11 for multiple reasons, design, price(in my country), screen for VR, 3.5mm jack...I love the S8 (exynos) and for the first time I can say it's a keeper :good:
Though! there is something that is killing me in the User Interface, something extremely stup*d from samsung side, something that made me think there was a problem with the screen touch capability at first: You can't pick anything on a menu as long as the rolling animation is not 100% finished
I mean let's say you are in the setting menu and you are rolling up and down when you see the Apps tab and click on it, it won't open because the menu is still slightly rolling, this was not the case on any HTC I had, I could pick any tab while the menu was flying.
I don't know if our brave devs can do something to break this stup*id limit made by samsung, or else let's samsung know they have to let us pick any tab in a menu without us having to wait an extra seconds, I end up sometimes double even triple taping on a tab to let it open, it feels like the very first touch screen nokias

All I meant was I think it is like that on purpose.
I have never considered it to be an issue before, maybe because unlike you I have not had a HTC since the wildfire. I have had other devices .. sony/lg And many different Os with custom roms but never noticed it before. And even now I don't see it as an issue
You can flash a custom rom if you like but I don't think stock android will be any different for you also you will loose most things that make the s8 what it is including camera quality
I have used few HTC phones for some time and my last device was HTC 10, which I did like and know that Sense UI on HTC is much more smooth and fluid than on Samsung. The scrolling on S8 doesn't bother me and if I scroll, then see what I am looking for, I just tap to stop at that spot.

Go to SETTINGS > Accessibility > Dexterity and Interaction > "CLICK AFTER POINTER STOPS" switch to ON and you can adjust the slider if you want to.
This will make the scrolling and tapping more like you prefer on your HTC (I just got my S8 Active coming from an HTC One M9). However, it makes the scrolling animations VERY choppy when you hold your finger down and scroll slowly.
Hope this helps, I love the phone but am struggling with the software/UI.

so I went to best buy this evening to check it out.
unfortunately is was pretty crippled and I could not enable developer options (needed a password), so I couldnt get a full idea of how it looks hidden.
having said that, it really doesnt look as bad as it does in pictures online. however, it is still big.
It is not so visible on home screen if you use a dark wallpaper. Some apps hide it automagically, which keeps the status icons on the top, which is exactly how I wish it would be when hidden. I will probably make a photoshop overlay for wallpapers that will hide the notch with status up high, as I dont really use the live walls or anything like that, though I think devs will figure out a way to do that as well.
Viewing pics and video full screen it (the notch) will bother me very much.
Unfortunately the phone had no internet or cell signal, and of course connectivity settings were not available.
The screen to me is a HUGE improvement over the 2XL it looks fantastic. Even the non-XL was very impressive screen wise. Speakers do indeed sound louder, though I could only play the on-board ringtones etc, which still only preview out of one speaker.
Sadly hard to get a full hands on with it being crippled, but I do feel better about pre-ordering it than I did before I checked it out.

Been using Nacho Notch on my 3xl since I got it on Wednesday. Just turned it off to see if there was any difference in color on a white background. Didn't see a thing. Maybe it will the longer it is used, but my phone screen is pretty much on all night because I leave Netflix running when I fall asleep. I'll learn real quick if it does in fact have burn-in or image retention (OLED screen problem).

I usually watch a show when I go to bed. Half the time I fall asleep and wake up realizing I am a few episodes into a series.
Honestly doesn't bother me much (Well, at least it will until I can get root and install an xposed module that cuts charging off and starts charging again when the battery gets slow, or allow you to change the rate at which the phone charges). I used the module on my Pixel 2 XL and the battery was just as good as it was when I first got it 9 months later. Sadly, can't remember the module name, but it makes the chance of reducing your phones battery charge much smaller and livable with.

I sometimes think the people defending its omission are OP sleepers. Honestly I get that for some people it is no big deal and I respect that but there are people like me who genuinely like and want an AOD.
I like OP phones and would actually like to try the 7 pro but in wireless charging and the AOD they have omitted 2 features that are important to me, could accept no wireless charging only but not both.

Thanks to this thread I just cancelled my reservation on local reseller... Thanks guys. I can't belive, there is no AOD.
You all know you are complaining about a feature that doesn't come standard on XDA right? 100% sure a developer will have it in due time. Even sure an app will show up as well. Even had it on the 6T, personally I found it highly annoying.

Does it have "always on display"?
Does it have dual frequency GPS?
Thanks

here is info from gsmarene
GPSYes, with dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, SBAS
....nowadays, OLED screen = AOD support by hardware...
dont worry, guys
Not true. Or else you could use it on a galaxy s6, s5 etc. I haven't heard of a software only solution that is working as good as the the AOD from Samsung, Huawei etc. The display has to support it probably as well. Like a low refresh / low power mode. Whatever it is, they might have it as the display was made by Samsung. But maybe not, because 1+ didn't care.
My p20 pro has it always on and it barely consumes any battery juice. The magisk module for the 6t (which hasn't been updated in a long long time) ate nearly 15% in only 3 hours.
I never understood the ambient display. Might as well use the lockscreen, which has even more information available. And accessing the lockscreen by a "tap-to-wake" option was even on the LG g2. Nothing special, nothing outstanding about the ambient display. The whole point of the AOD is that you don't have to touch the phone to get all the info you need. Clock, missed calls or messages. Without having a disadvantage.
To me it looks like they couldn't get it done. They also canceled it for the op6, because their solution consumed way too much battery.
I know that it is not important to anyone here. But I would have loved to have one.

What are you guys smoking? It's not even a competition? Ambient is worse in every possible way. It is like an AOD but you have to interact with it before it shows
Jeez, this is some serious fanboy****. The Ambient display is just a cheap attempt to mimic an AOD without having to go through the technical barriers to create one.

What you described is exactly what I want. I only want it to turn on the screen if a notification comes through, or if I pick up the phone. I don't need the screen on if the phone is just sitting there, what a waste of battery.

Gotcha. I run pixel rom on my 6t which has both AOD and ambient, prefer ambient personally but it's all subjective. Not having wireless charging is kind of a bummer I guess, I've never used it (well tried it on the LG G6 and it was terrible, guessing it's better now), but in the future when we see cars coming standard with wireless chargin mats in cubbies it would definitely be cool imho.

No AOD? Why? Deal breaker for me.

I don't understand why they don't put it,
I don't understand one plus, they want to challenge Samsung, pixel line etc with no ip certification, no AOD, no wireless charge, speed it's not all. I'm a note user I can stop use the style but I can't go back on others things like those.
So they'll never have Samsung or pixel users without that.
700 bucks to a one plus phone it's a lot.

Totally agree with this, ambient is just pointless, if I pick my phone up I want the full lock screen.
