Screen on time - Xiaomi Mi 9 Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Mi 9 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

So far, so good.
Excellent battery life with 3.300 mAh - First charge!
7,5 hours SOT and 31 hours standby - playing some games, Instagram, music over spotify, ...

Second charge - a little bit less battery life, because of poor network signal at my work
22% left and 4,7 hours SOT, 39 hours standby - bad network signal at work, most surfing with chrome, Instagram, hearing music over spotify, ...

Hi can you confirm SoT in hours you get from single charge?

any reason Android is eating up such a large portion of my battery? would it be GPS usage?

Yes, its possible.
Now, in last charge I had exactly 7h SOT and 37h standby with heavy usuage and bad network (WiFi, LTE, E ...)
Sometimes I get very good SOT about 7h and sometimes only 5h with 35h standby.
From tomorrow I get VoLTE and VoWiFi - I think the battery stats will be better, when I only turn on WiFi @ work and disable mobile connection.

For me it's quite average, 7-8h sot.

exactly same result here, also first charge.. but now in real life (when moving, different wifis, 3g) it got pretty bad.
- some suspect bluetooth (just turned it off for 1.5hr, and battery stayed completely flat with ETA 6days... hmm we will see)
- some suspect office wifi (which normally poses as a battery saver, also getting bad standby there)
- some suspect EU version 28 (new version will come in 2 days)
all is premature now, will find out how to improve. Some short tests show potential of 6 to 10 days of pure wifi standby (just like 6T), discount some wakelocks and maintenances, and small SOT, would be good for 2days of operation. Someone please make a proper kernel!

I have similar observations, while on mixed mode, I get around 5h sot. This looks like an idle battery drain issue, because if longer I stay with screen on the better the sot result is shaping. I have currently 2h 15m of sot and 82% battery remaining, brilliant result, but for most of the discharged 18% the screen was on
Wysłane z mojego MI 9 przy użyciu Tapatalka

Use it like a phone (not only wifi and youtube) its hard to get 5h SOT with 24h sb
Send it back

yep, it's terrible so far even with Naptime and Servicely, and GMS disabler, the only available hacks on nonexisting kernel modification.
11.5hr runtime, 3hours SOT... 25% left. Pretty bad, hardly one day.. Thats why i kept my 6T still configured in case i give up. It used to greet me with 75% after the day...

26h runtime, 6h 35m SOT, 13% left.
Disconnected from charger yesterday evening. I have disabled all connectivity for night (only LTE was on) to see self discharge and it ate only 2% (from 76% to 74%) during all night. I had 3h SOT yesterday. Today 2 times GPS, multiple YouTube, Tapatalk, Chrome, taking and watching videos and photos. Nothing more. No gaming.
And I'm not using any battery managers

Hi guys, thinking about official Xiaomi ROMs, do you recommend Beta ROM over Stable ROM?

Coming from a LG G6 this phone has really great battery life.
On my G6 I charged overnight and in the evening the battery was almost empty again.
Now on the Mi9 I only used Wireless charging (the slow one) and never needed a full battery the last 5 days:
Gesendet von meinem MI 9 mit Tapatalk

Testing in 1hr blocks. Bluetooth off no impact. Wakelock kernel no impact. Naptime, Servicely no impact. Office wifi no impact. Home wifi helps. Already got a 1%/hr one hour block.
Time to real-time record what's happening. I see some maintenance windows during deep doze that burn battery -20%/hr in few minutes. Some Xiaomi horror might be happening in the background. But still outside home the situation is bad.

[Q] Honor 6 H60-L04 Stand-By time to decide if to buy

Good day to all the people using the Honor 6 H60-L04,
I currently have a Moto X 2013 and I love almost everything about it. The one thing that really makes me mad about the phone is the battery. I can get 6:30 hours of SoT during normal use, but during Standby / Sleep mode the phone eats a minimum of 2.0% to 3.0% drain per hour. It does not matter if the phone is even in Airplane mode, it drains about the same.
Now, I am looking for a phone that will not need to have everything turned off just to have 1 day of regular use and to have a small drain per hour when the phone is not being used.
Could some users share their average Standby time on their Honor 6? Other than not being splashproof (Why couldn't Huawei follow the steps of the Honor 3?), the Honor 6 is the most attractive option for me right now due to price and performance, just need to know how is the avg drain per hour when screen off is to make a decision.
At night my battery was eat 1%
So in about 8hrs it drops 1%? If you use GSAM Battery Monitor it would say a little more than 0.1%/hour or similar?
Running the latest CM11. I lose maybe 4% every 24 hours in standby. My last battery cycle to 4% was 6 hours screen time, 2 days 14 hours total.
I received the Honor 6 on Friday, very happy with it! Tried this last night, and between 1am and 9 this morning it was only 1%, with wifi on all the time.

Hi,
Question, was it 1% battery drop total from 1AM till 9AM, so for example from 100% to 99% or a 1% battery drop per hour every hour from 1AM till 9AM, so 100% to 92%

Hi,
Those are some solid numbers. Would you consider yourself a heavy user? How did you use the phone during that period of time?

1% in total. I went from 27 to 26% overnight.
Still very happy with the H60 battery-life, I consider myself as a heavy user (whatsapp, facebook, twitter, etc) and I get around 6h of screen-on time.

Wow,
that is awesome. Too bad I found out that the phone is very weak in the sound department. I saw samples of videos taken in noisy environments (concert) and the sound was awful. Also, some reviews and users report that the sound coming out of the headphone jack is also of very low quality compared to other phones on the same price range.

I'm a medium to heavy user at home, browsing on Chrome, WhatsApp, YouTube. I usually get 6 hours of on screen time on heavy use with WiFi.
But if I am at the office, I will put my phone on 2G GSM just for replying messages and this will make my phone last for 1 day 12 hours at most with probably 3 hours on screen time.
Sound wise, the speakers at the back of the phone is not that great because it is a mono speaker. I am not so much of a music/sound person so that does not bother me as long as the volume is loud enough for me to hear my phone rings.
Earphones/headphones wise, i am happy with the quality of sound and I am only using my cheap CreaTive earphones.
Thanks for the feedback. For the battery, it is odd that it would last so little on 2G considering what was said before that the phone has excellent stand by time battery usage. If I was you, I would check if your phone is going into sleep mode while at the office, it could be something is keeping it awake.
For the sound, I am a heavy music listener and this is a deal breaker. On top of that, the audio during video recording is bad, and you won't notice until that special moment when you want to record a video and then you play it back and the sound is horrible with clipping and distortion (like on my old Galaxy S2).

Yeah like i said, replying messages on office days. So i always check my phone every minute. The culprit is too many incoming WhatsApp Group chats.
I've tried using the protected app feature and kill all background apps. It does make a big difference, i have seen my phone going more than 2 days unplugged with battery life still remaining more than 10%.
So it depends on the user really. Im too lazy to kill apps nowadays, because to me 1full day of battery life with 3G & medium usage is good enough. .
I have bought brand new honor 6, 2 weeks ago..
I have noticed that its draining very fast. 5-6% just 6hours night standby. no Wifi. 0 App is running after screen turned off.
Closed all recent open apps from history.
See two screenshots.
3% drained, for 28 minutes of wifi on (use for just making screenshots)
Ps:I have upgraded on marshmellow
Any solution will appreciated.
Battery is ok,but I dont count every single percent and on latest version of the stock rom screen on time is around 5 hours when you install all your apps and stuff.Phone is good overall, but its not worth upgrading from moto x 2013.Better stick with it and if you care about battery that much, install a custom rom/kernel or get powerbank.

Battery Life & SOT

Been getting about 14 to 16 hrs of battery life and about 4 hrs of SOT for the week. Main usage is web surfing, emails, whatsapp, YouTube and music streaming, no gaming.
Two days ago, I enabled the boost+ app and optimize most apps that don't need to run at full resolution. The screen on time seems to have improved a lot. Got 5hr 56mins of SOT with 14hr 46mins battery life.
This is much better than my HTC 10 after the nougat update. SOT approx 4hrs. I have boost+ running too.
Will monitor for a few more days to see if it is a one off performance.

Pretty good life!! mine gets about 3.5 hrs SOT, and about 13 hour standby, I also have boost+ on too. Curious as to what your brightness setting is, mine about 50% with adaptive on. I am rather heavier on my battery and network, so it doesnt surprise me that you're getting better life. (mine was better when I was on holiday with a better network connection).
About 45% level with adaptive on too. I think setting boost+ to run almost every app at HD resolution, excluding photo apps, helps a lot.
Good network is key too.
I am very satisfied with battery life when on WiFi 4,5-5 hours SOT), but when on LTE I get around 3 hours of SOT. I just enabled Boost+ to see if it improves battery life at all. I don't want to enable though FullHD for apps.
Do you use location services in high accuracy mode?
Here is mine, Charged up to 96% used until now.
Battery had become a bit crazy lately after updates to tons of apps. Just updated the firmware yesterday. Will monitor again.
Hi guys, hope everyone is doing good.
I wanted to ask that from past 2-3 days I'm facing very quick battery drain on u ultra. I'm hardly getting 2.5 hrs of Sot. Phone is heating too much.
Before this I was seeing around 4 hrs+ SOT that too with 1hr+ of casual gaming. I don't know what is wrong but I'm worried. My device is heating that's all what I'm able to notice. Any suggestions are most welcome. Except this, love the device.
Thank you.
It happened to me after updates of some apps.
The only way I solved it was to shutdown the phone completely. Wait for about a minute before powering up again.
Thinking about getting the U Ultra. Do you feel that the battery life is good enough?

Actually depends on what your daily usage looks like. If I'm on holiday or the whole day at home, one charge easily lasts for 2-3 days. But at university with every sync /bt/WiFi etc enabled and 50% brightness I get about 8h with high amount of screen on time (50-80%)

I usually use the phone for 2-4 hours per day but more hours during travel.
How much does the battery drain during standby? For instance, I you leave the phone in standby during the night, how many percent does the battery decrease?
Mine loses about 4% overnight (8 hours) which I think is exceptionally good!
For me it highly depends on which ROM and which apps I have installed. Recently the battery drain was about 1%/hour (150 apps, all syncing etc on), but right now after cleaning up a bit and nstalling greenify I'm back at ~3-6% per night.
I can get the black U Ultra for €291.99 here: https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/htc-u-ultra-64gb-4g-dual-sim-sim-free-unlocked-black.html
Tested the phone yesterday at a local shop here in Sweden, felt great in the hand and I really like the design. However, the battery life may be a deal breaker. Most of the phones I have used during the last 2 years has droppped 1-3 percent during night and I usually got 6 hours SOT over 24 hours. The last phone I used with weak battery life was Nexus 6, it gave med 3-4 hours SOT during 24h and that was slightly annoying. I get the impression that U Ultra is comparable to Nexus 6 in the battery department. :-/
That's actually a very accurate comparison. I replaced my Nexus 6 with the HTC Ultra and I'm getting almost identical SOT and battery life.

I get about 24 hours of mixed usage, which means I need to charge it up every morning, but I never seem to be able to get more that 4 hours SOT. Also, the rapid charger is slower than the Nexus 6. It takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes for a full charge.
I installed and configured kernel Adiutor/CPU Kernel state #on_demand and turned off #core_4. Now my battery/system working 2 whole days before charging!
Guys if i go to optimize apps and turn it on, Wen I leave it turns off again. Is this normal? I restart the phone and I already did a factory reset because the phone was updated alot the first time I use it, but it's the same. I'm getting about 3-4 hours off sot depending on the use. Maybe less. What do you guys think?
i got 5hrs and a few mins with the first charge (light use, browsing, installing apps, tweakin settings and 35mins spotify)

Phones get better mileage at/between different percentages so it doesn't mean much if your not showing a near full discharge...

I'd say it's faring pretty dang well. Over 7.5 hours SOT with almost 2 days of usage on a single charge? This, to me, is absolutely astounding. OPO did a phenomenal job on optimizing this device. Coming from my GS9 which is barely over 4.5 hours SOT on a good day, and the Pixel 3 XL which is... unremarkable at best.
Edit: Oh and of note, Battery saver has only been on since about 10-11%. Was simply wanting to make sure it made it until I went to bed!

Mostly browsing with Chrome, but also Viber and Google Voice for messages, YouTube and YouTube TV. I'll be posting new screenshots which will include the usage details.
First day battery test was a near full discharge. NO BATTERY SAVER USED. Moderate usage few videos, pictures taken, music, settings being configured to personal preference and got 7+ hours of SOT with 32hours till 10%. Got down to 5% at the 39 hours mark with 8+ SOT. Does anyone have advise on a healthy charging habit to keep battery accurate and healthy, to prolong the life charge. Would be great for battery health advice. Thanks. Enjoy

OnePlus 6T providing amazing battery life. The screen on time is more than 8 hours. Surprised by the battery life as i coming from galaxy note 5.
Impressive battery
????
I'm consistently getting over 10 hours of SOT over a period of 24 - 30 hours which is insane.
This is mostly with streaming through Netflix and YouTube.
I have turned off the battery optimisations as well.
Nice going, op6t!
Started with 100% in the PM.
OOS 9.0.5, Completely stock.
With the latest update i feel like the oneplus team has definitely made screen unlock a few milliseconds quicker, and after installing the latest arnova gcam (with night sight), i feel like i don't have anything left to complain about this phone. On top of that it gives great battery life.
11+ hours over 2 days, although i admit i don't game at all.

I tried the Gcam 6.1 Port from pixel on OOS 9.0.3 but it drains the battery a lot. SOT down to 5 hrs from 8+ hours. Approx 10 minutes usage of Gcam reduces around 15% of the battery.
I don't really do all that much, some clash royale, reddit, random websites, and mostly youtube browsing, oh and for today I used GPS for the 3hr drive to and from a meeting (brightness at 70% the first hour and 25% the rest), and i was also able to pull off 10hrs SOT over 20hr period. Pretty great considering the same type of usage would barely get me 4hrs on my 3T.
Although im almost certain this is from the colder weather and darker skies. That 10hrs is probably more like 6hrs in the summer day. Im not even sure this is good by any means, since im so used to garbage battery lol
Shoot I forgot the screenshot [web link]
Battery discharge from initial bootup. Battery started at 54%.
4+ hours SoT
A lot of FB, Chrome and installing apps/initial configuration stuff.
Installed 9.0.5 update.
Still have 9% left and hour of estimated usage.
Loving the 6t and this amazing battery life. Came from a Moto Z Force.
T-Mobile variant
First charge
Off charger at 7am
Mix usage, call, games, YouTube, reading, browsing interwebs
Not bad.

how is battery life for you P3 users?

hi guys, would like to know if you are happy with the battery life or not.. can you get a couple of days battery life with moderate usage and 4-5 hours sot maybe? that's what I use to get with my xz2c... i know experience may vary from people to people and usage etc but with moderate usage it should be pretty clear what I mean... (messaging, browsing, emails, no games, and such)

I rarely look at sot but in general, after 4 days, the battery life is perfectly fine. Not stellar but I haven't hit 50% yet after all day use. I'd say easy 5 hours sot simply because I use Strava which is a battery hog while biking and running. With my P2 I'd come home with about 75% or less. With the P3 it's mid 80s and I still last the whole day without a charge. I tend to look at overnight drain AOD but face down so I guess that doesn't count, but I'm either getting 0.5% / hour or 0.6. On my P2 it was about 1.2% / hour. I'll check sot today and edit.

if someone can post also the overnight drain with airplane mode ON and AOD always ON too (that's how I would use it at night), that would be fantastic!
I got just over 5 hours of screen on time yesterday with heavy usage. 6:30AM to 11:30PM.
Adaptive screen brightness set to favor higher brightness. AOD enabled (this turns off when in a pocket or face down on a table, BTW). No gaming. On Wifi for ~70% of the day. Did not top off the charge at any point.
5 to 6 hr on lte. 6 to 7 on wifi. Like the pixel 2

I have only had it for a couple days, but I would never expect it to outlast an Xperia device. Those things go forever! I use LTE all day at work and then WiFi in the evenings at home. The phone stays on vibrate mode from 8am-5pm, and is primarily issued for occasional texts and checking XDA. I leave work with about 70% battery.
YouTube handles the rest of the load from 6pm-10pm. I don't track SOT but the battery percentage drops below 20% regularly with this routine.
Saturday when I put it on the charger at bedtime, it was at 51% with 4 hrs & 10 mins SOT. I thought that was outstanding.
I have super light usage and I get about 4 days. I didn't take a screenshot sadly.
Better than pixel 2 was...6.5hr sot on lte and 7 to 8 on wifi

Can you all please post actual stats with screenshot. Mine doesn't hit more than 5 hours with mixed wifi and lte usage.

That is normal. All of these high sot numbers are on WiFi only with special use cases, probably no cellular calls either.

I'm happy for those getting great battery life.
On mine it is definitely worse than my pixel 2 with the same usage.
I can get maybe 4.5 hours screen on time before it goes dead. Mixed LTE and wifi usage.
Hopefully it will improve after some updates.

My battery life is also noticably worse than the P2.. was running flash kernel on it and I know the P3 has a higher resolution screen but still.. If usually end the day with 70% left on my P2 whereas now I'm left with about 50%. All good signal LTE.

Lol, then you have no worries because you are clearly a light user. ?
It's still early days since I'm doing all the set up still which means more screen time than normal, but the fast charge is ridiculously good, even when connected to a PC.
Battery life is okayish. With normal use like browsing, some videos, light gaming, fb, insta, WA..etc it will go through till the end of the day. I get around 4-4.5 hours of SOT with WiFi, AOD off. I'll test it out more, probably.

That is ****, sorry but it is, i would expect with network on, wifi on, aod on to give at least 6h sot

Pixel 3a XL battery life

I knew battery life would be great, taking into account the mid-range CPU and small (by todays standards), low-res screen.
But on this youtube test, the 3a XL wiped the floor with these phones,
and had half an hour more endurance over the Zenfone 6, which has a monstrous 5000mah battery.
These are excellent results.
Edit: changed title to battery life, since I find no dedicated discussion.
The did not have the Moto G7 Power in that test. The battery life on the Moto G7 Power is incredible.

True. I've seen people reporting 12-14hrs sot. But the G7 power has a 26% bigger battery and an even lower mid-range processor.
I've got 7.5 hours of screen on time with auto brightness, Bluetooth, and wifi always on and still had about 30% remaining. 10 hours+ of SOT is totally possible.

I've got 7 hours sot, but with a ton of music streaming, Facebook, and phone calls. Sitting at 18%. Pretty sure I could get to 8. This is on Q beta.
What do you guys think of this drain test? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thBrVRTqXVQ&t=104
It is weird, makes no logical sense and contradicts many other comparisons..

I don't think he's a good reviewer. He also has a strong bias for a lot of the china phones like xiaomi, vivo, huawei etc.
For the purpose of this thread, I've been averaging over 7 hrs SOT with over 1.5 days usage easy. Mixed LTE and WIFI use.
i had 10 hours of the span of 3 days.I do a lot of battery test with my pixel and my poco and my other phones and even pixel is above poco on the battery sot.

Any specific measures to achieve that sot?

I would say disable Wellbeing for sure turn on saving mode ,use grayish theme, and a dark wallpaper, and restrict ur apps to not work when they are closed.I have mine all closed except messenger cause i notice that dont get my messeges. Usually i have 3 days and more and around 10 hours sot but i was editing a lot of pictures on snapseed and lightroom, and that can drain battery by a decent amount.

I'm obviously late to the party, but from what I gather, the screen and SOC are power-efficient compared to high end phones. The radios (wifi, bluetooth, LTE, etc) are not, though. So in the Youtube video you posted (2-DAY Drain Test), the guy started off by using four hours of Youtube, which requires data. Whereas the video by Mrwhosetheboss only has things going on locally (on the phones) until the last tests.

That is very interesting insight!
Mine been running for around 48h for my normal day to day use with 15-20% left. For comparison my previous LG V30 with same usage that lasted one day, one night and was at 5% around 22:00-23:00 next day.
I'm pretty happy especially that no optimization or dark mode yet (running Pie)
Hope to see few % extra on android Q
Android Q beta 5 9 hours sot
Like the title says, I'm on Q beta 5, stock, no root or special apps like naptime, only disabled a few apps that allowed it like Google Play music.
Close to 9 hours SOT with 11% still in the tank.
This is awesome.
