Desktop mode (wired) - Honor Magic 2 Questions & Answers

Hi there...although the introduction of wireless desktop mode is a useful feature, I noticed that connecting an USB cable to a standard monitor (or to a TV that doesn't support mirroring) no longer activates the desktop mode, differently from the Mate 20 series that supports both ways (wired & wireless) - anyone with similar experience? Is there a way to activate desktop mode via USB? Thanks!

Did anyone ever find out if this works?

Control S3 with broken screen

I have my wife's old S3. The screen is broken and the touch sensitivity doesn't work.
It is unlocked and I can connect it to my PC monitor with an MHL cable and see the screen. This requires a charging cable to be plugged in for it to work (not the case with the S4 and S5)
I have a USB keyboard and mouse which will control it using a USB OTG cable. If this is plugged in via the MHL cable on an S5 it doesn’t control the phone, so I guess the S3 will be the same even if I could get the screen to display after removing the charging cable.
I have a Chromecast so I could screen cast but would need a way to set this up on the phone first. Then I could just use the USB mouse and keyboard.
I want to install tasker, wake on lan and connect the phone to a wireless network. I will then use the phone to remotely wake a PC by sending it a text message (can’t set ARP entry in router). I already have this set up on an S4 at home. I have an S5 spare but don’t want to waste it for this purpose so would like to find a way to configure the S3.
Does anyone know how I can somehow access the S3 screen and also control the phone at the same time? I have seen a post referencing needing USB debugging but with very little other info.
Or, just in case, does anyone possibly know a way to run wol when the router doesn’t support it e.g. use a raspberry pi etc. so I can just forget the phone method?

When connecting the lg v50 via usb-c to a monitor it enables desktop mode. Is there a way to control the

Hi, not sure it is worth it to open a new thread, but can you please describe how you managed to enable desktop mode. I tried 3 different docks and it is just not working. I know it worked in the past. Could this functionality be lost when upgrading from Android 9 to 10?

Huawei Desktop mode on Samsung Dex

Hi, has anyone tried to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Samsung DeX station? I needed a USB hub to hock up my keyboard and mouse along with my TV via HDMI.
And I happen to have the DeX station for my work phone, Samsung S8+.
BTW, does anyone know how to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Windows laptop like the way Samsung DeX for pc works?
Huawei Desktop Mode works fine from the P40 Pro via from USB-C hub (with HDMI, ethernet, USB ports) to my monitor 2560x1440
Unfortunately there are no resolution settings with the Huawei Desktop .. but there are resolution settings with Dex
I do not have a Dex Station to test.
I am not sure about Huawei Desktop on a laptop.

Thanks for your feedback, I may get myself a USB-C Hub to try it out then. Any recommendation?
BTW, I did try out my P40 Pro on the DeX, and it worked albeit not 100% perfect. The sound output to TV was muffed to a tiny volume by default. By toggling it between Auto and Mobile phone to Display device mode managed to bring back the volume to normal.
Here's a few screen shots while testing it:

I would research on amazon and find a USB-C hub that supports Dex .. then you should be ok for it to work with Huawei Desktop Mode.
I bought x3 and luckily x1 was successful.
is their any way that we can extract the dex mode apk from huawei?? i am sure it will also work on my phone if it one out so can y guys see for any apps which u may think is responsible for dex mode experience on huawei phone, u can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.olalab.appbackup this app to take backup of that app and share...

Screen casting/wireless display for devices that do not support it

I have a cheap cinese tablet (a teclast P80X, see http://www.teclast.com/en/zt/P80X/) that does not directly support screen sharing/casting, wireless display or whatever else is that called.
I'd like to mirror the display to a Samsung smart TV but I'd be okay also to mirror the display to the Windows HTPC that is connected to the TV.
Any reasonably working options? Most of the apps available on the Play Store are just wrappers around the built-in wireless display support that is not available on this tablet. TIA.

There are mobile app/PC program combinations that work together to share the screen to your PC if they are both on the same wireless network. If you have a PC or a laptop, you can use these app/program combinations to share the tablets screen to the PC or laptop then connect the PC or laptop to the smart tv via the PC input port on the tv and the PC or laptop's screen will be displayed on the TV.
It's a bit of a roundabout, but, given that your hardware does not support screen sharing, you will not find a software solution to achieve this, you will have to use some kind of external hardware.
If you can find an app on the tv that has a companion app for your tablet that work together in the same manner as the mobile app/PC program combinations.
A Google search for
"Share android screen to PC over Wifi"
Should find many android/PC screen sharing solutions. Find one that works and that you are comfortable with, use it to share your tablet display to PC/laptop then connect the PC/laptop to the TV. I do this myself when the need arises, it works for me when needed.
So i ended up using scrcpy (https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy) which is just great. The only catch is that you need adb/usb debug which was not a problem in my case.
