ZC520KL ( X00HD ), TWRP: no OS installed - Asus ZenFone 4 Max Questions & Answers

I have broken my phone ZC520KL ( X00HD ) wiped system, data, cache in TWRP with no backup made now the TWRP shows "no OS installed"
When I try to install a ROM ( tried many already ), I got the "error 7" message.
Is there a backup that I can get? Can you please help?
PS: my phone is rooted with bootloader unlocked
Many thanks in advance.

I've managed to fix it by doing the following:
Copy the original recovery from a firmware package.
I could find one in the file https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11050483647474829889, location /Asus_Zenfone_4_Max_ZC520KL_20171225/Firmware/recovery.img
Load default recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery/original-recovery.img
Restart to bootloader
fastboot reboot bootloader
Load flashboot mode
choose the option "update using adb"
ensure that adb can locate devices with
adb devices
load firmware with
adb sideload UL-ASUS_X00HD-WW-14.2016.1805.374-user.zip ( try download from: https://www.beritahuaja.com/2018/11/download-stock-rom-asus-zenfone-4-max-zc520kl.html )

I didnt get anything from the post. you have to be little bit specific.
i mean you
1. unlocked bootloader(fine)
2. installed twrp(also fine)
3. installed cm13(great)
4. you reverted back to stock rom??? How from twrp, flashfire or fastboot.?
and now how are you trying to install twrp? from fastboot?
Flash twrp image with fastboot, start TWRP, reboot recovery within TWRP, then twrp sticks... profit.

TWRP is not sticking...
1) Start the bootloader, flash TWRP in fastboot with the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (Replace twrp.img with the name of the TWRP img file)
2) Press VOL DN to start Recovery and select it, TWRP should start... When prompted if you should allow changes to system, say YES or allow or whatever so that is allowed to mount system as read-write.
3) In the TWRP main menu, select Reboot, then Reboot - Recovery
4) The device will restart and TWRP will start again, if asked to allow changed changes to system again, allow it
5) Go to Mounts and make sure Mount System Read-Only is NOT ticked
6) Press Home, then Reboot and Reboot Recovery again
TWRP will start again and be set, it will not go away unless you flash something with a recovery.img in the file (custom ROMs do not normally contain this file).

At what point? What command are you using to perform the flash?
I'm sorry... I've just done this on numerous G3's and what you are describing doesn't just happen for no reason... either the initial flash was done incorrectly, the process to set it was not followed, or there is actually a defect in the device (which is unlikely if TWRP boots even once after bring flashed).

NEVER USE KINGROOT OR KINGOROOT on a Moto G3 with Marshmallow, it will soft brick... We have seen at least a half dozen specific examples by experienced users... Somehow you got lucky, but I would never recommend this method to a user.
Now, once rooted Flashify is a viable option.

Asus Padfone 2 semi bricked (Invalid Kernel message) help

Hi all,
I try to explain all and I try to be brief:
- Asus Padfone 2 with lastest stock rom and update
- Rooted with Towelroot apk
- Have a TWRP recovery that haven't any backup mode, so I want to install a CWM recovery to do a backup of my phone in case I need to format it
- tried with flashing from the recovery: I had signature error.
- tried to flash the lastest TWRP recovery for the Padfone 2: disaster
Now I'm stuck at boot, with Asus Logo and Invalid Kernel message. Can't boot recovery or the stock rom.
I can't flash the recovery with fastboot flash or adb sideload, I have a signature error.
Cannot even flash an unlocked boot.img, same problem. If I try to use "fastboot boot boot.img" it works, but after 30 seconds it automatically reboot before Windows (7, 64bit) install the MTP USB drivers.
I can't do anything, I recently resurrect the Padfone and the tablet and I already killed it.
Help please

Hi, yes I do, but honestly I don't remember.
I saved all the necessary so I think I should recall the procedure if I open that RAR file.
Now I have a BlackView BV7000Pro destroyed, worst than the Padfone (but still it turns on, it reboot immediately after the logo).
I'm a killer

Ok I didn't save anything. I remember something like flashing the original bootloader and recovery of the Padfone or something like that, using adb and fastboot.
Then I flashed a custom recovery and then the ROM.
I remember that it was more easy once done than reading the procedure. I deep searched on Google many different phrases about it.
Sorry I can't help anymore, I couldn't find anything (notes, files, etc).
Im trying to install TWRP without sucess.. but why?
using: fastboot oem device-info
the device status is:
bootloader tampered: false
bootloader unlocked: true
bootloader authorized: false
i did through fastboot mode:
fastboot erase cash
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
and then:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.1.0-A68.img
that looks like right install, but at end, do not work. Always back to screen recovery options to select, recovery or exit to the system. But, when choosing recovery, the device just turn off .
At the first time i'd had install custom recovery CWM and use Tari's rom. That's nice but, have some problems with consuming battery and instability.
I want to install new rom's
---------- Post added at 12:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:15 PM ----------
Rom Android Oreo for Asus Padfone 2
i'd found out in that website install new rom's like as Oreo.
But I'm in difficult to install TWRP here.
https://android8root.pro/como-fazer-root-asus-padfone-2/
Rom's for:
5.0 Lollipop
6.0 Marshmallow
7,0 – 7.1 Nougat
8.0 Oreo
Android P
CWM does not work because do not accept to flash the file of system over 1Gb
The Padfone is really one of the most useful mobiles phones i have pleaser to own. But unfortunately, old rom's are a source of difficulties to work with app's of today.

[need help] asus zc520kl [x00hd] any working rom with twrp

Update/Solved:
Currently the only way for people who deleted their OS completely in this phone model X00HD/ZC520KL is to restore the official firmware.
You can ask for a backup recovery folder in XDA Forums ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...help?nocache=1) if you do not have made a backup with people who have the same phone model. You must have TWRP previously installed and bootloader unlocked. Flashing the official firmware via .zip files is not working with twrp, you must restore the folder. After having the files needed, your recovery folder will not appear on the RESTORE section so follow this simple tutorial to make it appear there (https://youtu.be/trlG3ZxwQxI)
This method will bring your phone back to life if you're stuck in TWRP Recovery Mode with "No OS installed". This method is working and it's the only way for you to use your phone again until developers create custom ROM's for this model.

Hello, I tried your solution. It did not work. I keep getting Error Number 7 when flashing the ROM. Plus I also tried to delete the assert line in the uptader-script of the ROM you gave me the link after learning from a tutorial how to solve Error Number 7 and after that I got another error: Invalid Zip Format. I don't know what do to more, is this ROM link really compatible with my device? I need urgent help.

Thanks for the attention. I already tried tons of ROM's including the official one for this phone. I keep getting Error Number 7. Sometimes when I force an installation editing the uptader-script file it seems everything is working fine, but at the end of the ROM flash process the phone reboots and goes back to TWRP like everything had never happened. I have never seen a successful feedback, just the "Failed" message or a unexpected reboot that goes back to TWRP.
I don't know what do you mean with unlocking bootloader as I have no ROM installed and always I turn ON my phone I go to TWRP automatically. My TWRP version is 3.1.1.

Not working, as I said before, I've already tried to solve this Error. Either 3 things happen: the installation seems to be running good but at some point the device automatically reboots to it's original condition of TWRP (Liniage OS flash and after editing the file to solve Error Number 7 + I get a message saying "Invalid zip format" (Official Asus Firmware flash after editing the file to solve Error Number 7) + I get Error Number 7.

Hello @pantarz, yes, give me your backup ROM you have in your phone, it should work on mine. I'm really thankful to see people like this these days. Just need the .zip file for the ROM. Thanks in advance.

Hi @ANDROIDMASTER67, @pantarz I also break my phone ZC520KL ( X00HD ). It shows "no os installed" and "error 7" when I try to install a ROM.

The only way I can say is to re-flash everything it will take you back to factory. Just download what I uploaded to AFH FACTORY IMAGE. As long as you are in fastboot run the file that has .bat as the extension. It will flash everything including bootloader so soon after you setup your watch again it will update everything back to 2.0+. I don't recall whether you need platform tools or not, because I think it is self-contained, but if it doesn't work just search for platform tools extract everything into the platform tools folder and start the .bat file.
