Notification on Android Messages not showing up - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

Hello!
I installed Android Messages app on my Mi Mix 3 but notifications doesn't show up. I have tinkered all the settings on the notification and turned it on but still it doesn't show up. No floating notifications, no badges, no sounds. But the messages does come in. No issues if i'm using the stock messaging app and other sms apps, only on the android messages and I really want to use this app over other messaging app. Anybody here got the same problem or anyone knows any turnarounds for this?
TIA

If you are not on the dev Rom install that then allow auto start, priority notifications, and no battery restrictions.
Other option is to install the app to the system but you need root.

Push the app to become a system app if rooted

Why does this need root in order to get notifications and why did none of the reviewers I watch mention the HUGE issue?
I don't get notifications from; Hangouts, Android messenger (google), Steam, Discord and they are all set to high priority when available, at least whatsapp seems to work....
Still waiting on the 72 hour hold.

Chinese ROM has always been that way as it's for the Chinese.
A lot of those apps are designed to work with Google play services which also needs to be installed as a system app for it to work more effectively

I did forget to mention I am on the Global ROM full stock, no root.
(edit)
I checked google play services, it is up to date as a system app. Enabled all notifications on it too.

Strange, usually global notifications work well especially with Google baked into global
Rooting and pushing to system app should still solve the problem unfortunately

I would say that's a not entirely accurate as you know... There are 3 of us in another thread you just replied to complaining about notifications not working on global ROM...

Google notifications are borked no messages, Allo, or assistant. I moved back to eu rom. Actually don't see a reason right now to be on global.

I assumed that thread was Chinese, done same in this one so got mixed up.
Global usually works fine with notifications so it is strange. The global I flashed in December had perfect notifications, global on all my other Xiaomi phones worked fine so surprised it has issues.

In developer settings, go to bottom and turn off "MIUI 10 Optimization"
works perfect

It didn't work for me (eu rom, weekly build). On mine, if I switch to Textra then back to Messages, notifications work fine.

This issue was fixed on the recent MIUI update.

Is this for the Chinese or Global ROM?
I'm on the Global ROM, not seeing any OTA update as of now.
And I'm experiencing similar problems with notifications (Google Hangouts, Telegram, etc.) on the stock Global ROM 10.0.11.0 PEEMIFH

and surely you have changed optional/other permissions for notifications, yes?

how to add Recurring notifications

I recently installed the newest paranoid android ROM and im loving it. It uses the stock google messaging app and there isnt an option to enable recurring notifications of a missed text, call or MMS.
im looking for a way to do this. Ive already tried a few things.
1. handcent - i dont like the app.
2. GO SMS - i dont like the app.
pop up notifier was suggested, but im looking for a different route before falling back on that.
any help? thanks in advance.

You should give NoLed a try.
It was initially thought for phones without notification LED, but has also the features you want.

Lollipop Notifications popup

Hi there,
I'm on stock unrooted Lollipop, here's my problem :
I want those kind of notifications :
I've tried "heads up notification" and "floatify", nothing happens, just the icon in the taskbar...
Is it a known problem ?
Heads up isn't universal in Lollipop. It isn't system wide. It's up to app developers to update their apps to use heads up.

which explains why only the "messenger" (sms) application works like that? Even gmail doesn't show me any notification, I was on mahdi rom 4.4 before, it had an heads up feature working with every app

That's because Mahdi (and other KK ROMs) had it enabled system wide. It would work for all apps and you could blacklist certain apps from showing in heads up. Or blacklist heads up from showing in a certain app.
But yes, that's why. I figure gmail would show being a Google app and all, but I guess not. Couldn't tell you, really. I'm still on Mahdi ROM. Waiting for his 5.0 ROM before I update.
So yes, if you'd like heads up to show up for a certain app on Lollipop you should contact the developer of the app and ask.

Heads up notifications for calls

So I've been using venom ROMs for years but now they've been discontinued and the Oreo ROM no longer has a feature I find essential, that is heads up notifications for calls, now my question is, is there any other ROM for the U11 which has this or is there a way (without breaking safety net) to add it? Maybe an app or framework?
Any help would be appreciated as without this feature driving with navigation is infuriating.
Many thanks.
Have you tried something like "android auto" and the likes which set your display to be more convenient while driving?.
That doesn't answer my question
You said "maybe an app"... Android auto is an app. Maybe you should be more grateful for the input you receive or maybe reword your posts to reflect exactly what you're looking for.

Hi,
There's an app on Google play store to do what you want. The app calls ''Heads-up Notifications''.

Hi, while that app does add a heads up notification, it doesn't stop the dialer displaying over the whole screen which makes it pointless, I need the dialer not to show only the heads up notification like Venom used to do.
Cheers

Did you ever figure a solution to this?
Maybe disabling "show over others apps" permission for phone app?
Is in settings menu

Display Notification icons [Settings] [No Root] [No App]

[Update]: Turns out this is a new feature in MIUI 10 8.10.18 global beta.
To enable go to settings->notifications->show incoming notifications
Please ignore the below.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is my first post, please don't mind any amateur mistakes.
I was going through the settings and found that turning off MIUI optimisation in developer settings will enable notification icons getting displayed in clock region.
I have tested this in MIUI 10 8.10.18 beta version. It'll be good if few people can test this in stable version and post the results.
Procedure
1) Enable developer options by clicking MIUI version 7 times.
2) go to Additional settings->Developer options.
3) Scroll to the end and disable MIUI optimisation.
Optional
1) Disable notify about high risk features. This will turn off annoying notifications stating to enable MIUI Optimisation.
2) Set the display size to small for better looks.
Below are the screenshots of the settings and the notification icons getting displayed.
Please feel free to comment your opinions.
Cons:
Need to provide app permissions again for few apps.
Some of the UI won't look good (limited to app info and settings app) trade-off
Reserved
Already did it , but still show clock instead of notifications icons?
and also unable to remove high risk feature notification.

It'll display when you unlock the phone for few seconds.
Did you enable developer options? Strange i was able to disable it.
Which version of MIUI are you at?

I have not done any modifications. Maybe something is wrong.
I'm on 8.10.18 and notifications are displayed normally inside clock region. I didn't fiddle around with any settings, just updated and set up my own region (Croatia), everything is working as it should finally.

App Notifications [APP] Change any notification sound for any app, EMUI 8.1

I'm sharing another Tasker made app with one simple purpose: get you into the hidden App Notifications menu so you can change notification sounds. As many of you know this menu is not accessible through system settings. There are many methods of accessing it, including Nova, Tasker, or other shortcut managers but they all require work and a bit of knowledge. This app makes it simple for anyone. Even advanced users may find it handy.
It does not require root or any special privilege. Simply launch the app to enter the App Notification menu. This accesses the built in Android notification management system and is simply the best way to manage your notification settings.
Please hit thanks if you find it useful ?
(Because of the nature of this workaround it will only work on the official EMUI 8.1 release for now. No custom ROM or beta support, sorry. Once I've updated to 9 I'll share the new fix if necessary. I have Canadian L04 model though and updates happen here slowly)
Not working for me (P20 Pro EMUI 9 Beta). App doesn't launch when tapped.

I don't have 9 yet but I'd assume you'll find it in settings under Notifications where it should be. AFAIK it was unintentionally left out in 8.1 which is why we had trouble. If it's included in 9 a simple search through settings should reward you. ?
Works perfect, thanks!

This apk is totally useless. It's a joke? The same you can get if you just go to the notifications.

Apparently you do not understand what we're trying to accomplish. You cannot change notification sounds in the menu you refer to in EMUI 8, only turn them off. But there is a secret hidden menu that allows to change any notification sound for any app you like. It may look similar to the one you are thinking of but if you know what you're doing it is very different, there are far more options available. You cannot get to this menu by any other means than sending an intent, whether via command, a shortcut from a launcher or an app like I've shared. Trust me, there is a purpose for this or I wouldn't have so many thanks for it already. But if you're okay with having the same notification sound for every single app on your phone that's cool too. Whatever floats your boat. ?
We can use Nova Launcher to create a shortcut that link to this Notification settings in this thread.

You can use Nova Launcher to do this, yes. Other methods all involve installing a shortcut creation app of some kind and finding the correct settings entry. This app is for people who do not use Nova or would prefer a simple method with the hard work done for them. It's a pain digging through all those settings entries if you don't need to. ?

This app saved my sanity after switching from a LG G5 to the P20 Pro. Many thanks!
I'm sorry, but to change the sound for any app I go to config/applications/aplications/ choose the application I want then manage notification then sound and choose what I want... Using pie with a L29. I came from a custom pie rom on an oneplus 2 and, as i remember, I use to do it like that also... Did I missed something? Sorry about my English.
