Did you unlock your bootloader to change firmware?
You are now going to need the drmfix for the rest of its life

Ye I unlocked it. It's fine to do the drmfix, but how? I'm out of the flashing and similars since years I don't know how to do this.

Bootloader unlock wasn't needed at all.
Anyway, search XperiFix here on xda, but I don't know if it's ready for xz2 family. Oh, it's a paid solution, about 19€.

Maybe you never noticed, but the camera was really bad after bootloader unlock.

At least it can take pictures, only the preview is black :silly:
Due to the lack of pie support of the pay solution at the moment, you can downgrade your phone to OREO, install the solution, take a picture and upgrade your phone to PIE again.
You need newflasher v13 from XDA and the stock Oreo ROM I uploaded in the TWRP thread.
And a downgrade requires factory reset.
Because of the encryption.
Feel free to ask for help.

Go into my TWRP thread and install TWRP and magisk.
Root your phone, backup your apps with Titanium Backup
Downgrade to the Oreo firmware I uploaded there, use xperifix as DRMfix.
Boot into Oreo, use the camera to take one shot.
Upgrade to PIE and reinstall your apps with Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup and xperifix costs some €/$
Then wait for xperifix PIE release to get your 100% photo quality back.

Why bother? The OPO has an easily unlockable bootloader, so you can root, install a custom recovery and ROMs if you so desire.

Fair enough, you could try it and if it works install titanium backup and backup your apps. Then it would be slightly less hassle to unlock the bootloader. I'm not so sure of the outcome if it doesn't work properly or go wrong, but worse case scenario you may need to wipe to sort your phone out anyway.
I know man, I know
I was simply hoping to find anyone who had already used to get some feedback: I really have no time to restart from zero on the phone, in case anything goes wrong with titanium, helium or anything else.
In addition, my phone works like a charm, have no issues at all: I'd rather not touch it

What about using fastboot to root? You dont need to unlock and wipe, see the below posts and thread for info. Safer than using an 'exploit'.

King doesn't work. The only way to root is by unlocking the bootloader. It's best to research a phone when you're buying it, then you'd just unlock the bootloader before committing data to the device.

Best Option for my Xperia Z3?

Hey,
what would u guys recommend me to do with my xperia z3?
Install another ROM or just root?
Maybe something totally different?
I guess neither Ubuntu touch nor Kali Nethunter are working :/
so what is the best option now for me ?
I found 5.1.1 version .264 the best, you can have root, Xposed and a great battery.
6.0.1 brought only a 33% lower battery life for me, with no apparent benefit (except security fixes that is)
If you have Xposed you can put the Nougat nav bar ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-pixel-navigation-bar-pixel-t3502987 ) and the N-ify quick toggles/reply ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-android-n-ify-features-t3345091 ) and you're done, looking like Nougat, but with the great Lollipop battery life.
I dont like to give up security :/
Is there a security or privacy based rom for xperia z3 ?

Hmm oke,
Is the a detailed guide on how to do all those things? That jaguar guy also said I need LP or MM first and an unlocked bootloader etc...
I don't want to break my phone so a detailed guide would be nice.
And are still all apps working on that phone? Like WhatsApp, Firefox etc.?

Although, if you don't already know what those mean, things can get tricky.
Eg. unlocking the bootloader will invalidate your warranty, if you care

Yes, that's a given.
Warranty is gone sincd this month, that's why I want to do something now. So that wont be a problem.
Thx for the link. I hope it all works when I try to do it.
Is there a high chance of my phone breaking?
Or is there even a way to make a backup or something so that I can recover it everytime I fail?
Do make a backup because you need to wipe all (!!) for unlocking and flashing.
Hmm k
I guess there is also a guide for those backups isnt it?

Does such an app also safe the OS?
Nope, not sure what you want.
when u install that rom, then u do changes in ur current os (that is installed on ur mobile), maybe u even delete it (not sure, that's how i imagine it hehe)
so when u fail u can't go back to how it is by default (the default android version)
so i wonder if u can backup that android version that's given by sony. so no matter what happens u can just go back to it
What version do you have now? ( About-> last text down 23.something??

Yes, you can just go back to that (and then obtain root afterwards if you want that).
And the backups for this are explained in 'general'?
There is no backup, per se, you flash whatever you want, and if you don't like it you can go back to your version.
Yes, you will probably wipe everything from your device, so MAKE A BACKUP of your stuff on your PC or something, and then play with these.
Not sure what you mean by "backup" though?!

Ah oke, I thought it's like when u change the OS on a PC.
Then the old OS is gone, so either u need a 'recovery backup' or the .iso of ur old OS. Or u hardly can go back to ur old OS.
But I guess it isnt like that with a mobile.
So is the version i have now on my android still 'under' jaguar then ? or can i just download my actual version somewhere and 'install' it on the device ?

[Noob] Many questions from a new converted to android world

Hello everyone!
To start i would like to say that i just discovered the amazing open world of android less than a month ago. I was on iOS(hit) for a too long time and it's was the moment to quit it.
By the way this forum really helps me to understand better the android system and all its features.
But i still need ot understand lot of stuffs. That's why i'm gonna start here.
First of all i was on stock rom and i rooted it, eveything worked fine but i wanted to go further. So I installed ResurrectionRemix rom. Wich is pretty fine but a little bit buggy sometimes (wich is normal it's an unofficial one, i'm not complaining about it, just wanted to give it a try). Let's say i would like to back to the stock rom. I have a backup i made right before flashing Resurrection via twrp. To get back to it i just have to restore through twrp? Or do i need first to go back to stock rom and then restore the backup?
On some topics i can read "you have to download the latest firmware for your phone", do you know where i can find it?
These are the two majors questions i'm wondering. I have a lot more but i'll try to get myself first and if not, i'll go back there.
I hope you could help me guys.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.
P.S. : My model phone is a FRD-L09

Hello everybody !
Today i want to do a proper root installation on my device.
For this i m doing a rollback to stock rom and then update it to b389 firmware through the update manager by selecting the "download all package" option.
I was wondering wich tool is the best for rooting? Magisk v14.0 or SuperSU v2.82?
Also i've made a backup with HiSuite of my apps and configs. Is it better to restore it first and then root the device or firstly root the device and then restore the backup?
Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Since u've rolled back and have done a full update there's a large possibility that ur bootloader is now relocked. So to root u have to unlock the bootloader. So unlock ur bootloader, then restore all ur data and then flash Magisk since it seems to be a lot more stable.

I wanted to root my xzp but ..

Hello, I have an xzp with 2 years of work, it is running out of update, it is being abandoned by Sony, so I decided to give it another chance to install a rom with interesting functions. But I know Sony well and that I have the rooted Z5, when you unlock the bootloader there is no going back, all the Sony properties are lost, and they are good properties, I do not want to risk. Is there a way to backup TA before all? The Z5 did allow root before unlocking bl, in my case I lost it because something strange happened.
I am interested in a high refresh rate, I don't know if it will work in LOS 16 or higher, if someone has tried it and it has worked well ...
Two things that I liked about the xzp is its screen and the sound, a ROM like the exisTenz pie(Modified based on firmware) has the quality of the screen or sounds as is the stock?
Regards and thanks in advance

Personal opinion, go with eXistenZ. The other full custom roms have issues. I'm not a gamer and I rarely watch video on my phone but the screen looks great to me. I'm not an audiofile, but I have no complaints as to sound, plus if you root and use Magisk there are sound mods you can install. You will loose some camera functionality but for me not a game changer. I take snapshots with my phone; I take real photographs with my camera. After all I bought it as a phone, not a camera.

You're right, I take snapshots too, with my rooted Z5 it's impossible to focus scenes because the missing DRM key, with that it works correctly (no problem to focus on objects), it's ok. Someways to backup the TA?
There's a thread all about backing up DRM keys. Seems like a whole lot hassle for nothing to me, but search for it and you'll find it.

TWRP on the P4a?

I was wondering if anyone knew about the partition schemes and whether there is enough room on the boot image to install custom recovery on the P4a?
The Pixel 3A did not have enough room on the RAM disk on the boot image. So installing TWRP, even a stripped down version compressed, on the P3a was a no-go.
Custom recovery was not necessary on the P3a. Just having and unlocked bootloader and root via Magisk gives a lot of options including custom ROMs.
However, I'm still curious if custom recovery will ever come to the P4a?

I know, it looks like TWRP has been doing a long slow death spiral.
We have TWRP on Android 10 for the Pixel C tablet. But of course among other things, there's no A/B partitions and Google abandoned support for the device a while ago.
Might be a while, pixel 3+ devices haven't had a 100% working TWRP for a long time.
They can still sideload ROMs and patch boot images with adb/fastboot
I'll miss this moving on from my 2xl. Nice to flash and update things without needing a PC

Just unlocked my Pixel4a using the standard ADB commands. Will say that OEM Unlocking stayed grayed out, until I connected to my WiFi (No SIM) and let the phone connect to the mother-ship.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but there are no factory images yet for the 4a so no rooting with Magisk until then?

yea i believe you are correct, i think same steps for the pix4 can be applied on the 4a https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-4-root-magisk/
im not sure if there are other ways to get the boot img but id rather just wait for the factory images to release & mess with it then. gonna make a cronjob script to watch / notify me once its up.

If I get around to it this weekend, I may just do a rom dump to extract the boot.img. Haven't done it in a while. I'm still waiting for some screen protectors to arrive before I mess with my phone.

I can't find them either.
Isn't Android 11 going to make it more difficult to hide root anymore? I am tempted to root, but heard (or read) somewhere that with android 11 that it may not be worth it as any app (or something like that) will be able to see and not work.
This is the first phone I've owned that I think I'll be satisfied with stock. Ad guard does everything I need as ad away did. And it doesn't need root. Everything is fast! Now I don't have to hack Google pay.

Curious about adguard. I just tried it and won't install with chrome as browser.
