XZ2 Officially Added to Sony Open Devices Program - Sony Xperia XZ2 Guides, News, & Discussion

https://developer.sony.com/posts/xperia-xz2-and-xperia-xz3-added-to-sonys-open-devices-program/
I didn't purchase the XZ2 because of the lackluster ROM development. I read that there were some issues with a DRM being broken that caused the camera to fail. Does this announcement by Sony indicate that the phone is easier to make roms for?

Yes, but the announcement is too early.
We need https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/kernel/pull/1688 getting closed.
BTW. It is way easier to release custom rom for the xperia phones.
There is only a lack of developers. :silly:
I want a lineageOS.

Actually camera won't fail if u unlock it in Android Pie.But X-Reality and audio effects will not work.

The camera fails.

BTW
Unlocking in PIE is impossible because of a bootloader bug.

Loss of video and image enhancement is a deal breaker for me.
That's why I think root in Xperia is a no go.

You get it back with a drmfix.
But on PIE you need to wait for @sToRm//

I know... But after uninstall useless apps via ADB, I'm fine without root.

App2sd

Okay guys, wanted to ask you that if Z3 comes with app2sd like T2 and T2 Ultra? Cause it's supposed to be a Sony feature in 4.4.4
Did they miss out?

NO.
You must unlock BL to root, and then instal SD KK FIX, and then try to move apps.
But be advise, i dont recommend to unlock BL because of following

He was not asking that. He was asking about native app2SD.
AFAIK it is not implemented and has not been part of a stock ROM for some time now.

Hi
We cannot install the mod, because we don't have Snapdragon processor.
BUT there's an official Google cam version that is fully compatible with us, and you've just to download it from there: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...amera-5-1-018-177470874-android-apk-download/ it doesn't need root or unlocked bootloader, it doesn't require anything, just install:highfive:
Don't use newer versions, they won't work.
I'm doing a guide for that, if you need more help
Try Arnova's mods

Sadly it doesn't work, because you need camera2 API activated, or a Nexus or a snapdragon phone.
If you've root access, activate camera2 API and it should work:highfive:
Without root, you can still use background defocus and all other features of the camera, because it isn't a port, it is stock application

Hey again, Yup I see all other setting of app works good even picture quality seems to be better versus stock sony camera app + hdr enabled... So my inside voice is telling that I want to see what gcam can do with hdr+ setting on this hardware... But I have no ideas how to root XA1 Plus running on 8.0 android and sys version is 48.1.A.2.21 RUS region one... Any link would be appreciated, but more than that I would like to see hdr+ vs default samples of XA1 or XA1 Plus cuz they seem to have same camera setup :highfive:

Hi
Xperia camera with HDR activated is the best camera if you didn't lose TA partition unlocking bootloader.
I'm not the only who says that, Google it.
However, there's no way to root Xperia without unlocking bootloader, but if you do that and if you find a working TWRP that doesn't brick your device (as happened to me ), you can use Magisk.
Else, wait for Kingroot update, until it will be compatible with our device.
Hope this helps :good:

Waiting for a DRMfix for PIE
or
just use the device without the lost functions

AOSP is independent of Sony stock stuff.
It has its own enhancement stuff.
But at the moment the camera is not stable/complete.
That'll take some time.
I don't know if the Oreo drmfix guy is working on it or any other.

Kindly Guide me how can i fix drm on oreo
Just use xperifix.
The Oreo firmware is in my TWRP download link.
It can be installed with newflasher from XDA.
Xperifix needs to be installed in vendor & a/b mode.
Choose the magisk.zip too, but not the TWRP stuff.
And switch to selinux permissive via magisk.

android 10 announced for xz2

https://blogs.sonymobile.com/2019/11/15/which-sony-products-will-receive-android-10-upgrades/
It says...
Owners of Sony’s premium flagship Xperia 1 and recently announced Xperia 5 will be among the first to receive the new tech, which will be available this December.
Owners of Xperia 10, 10 Plus, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium and XZ3 devices can expect to access the upgrade early 2020 onwards*.
*Software rollouts are a phased process – timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator. Most models supported but some operator/market exceptions will apply.

They stripped 'em. There is a way to enable Android Q gestures via ADB, but the bottom line button doesn't work at all, so it's pretty useless.
