The elephant in the room, or should I say will the notch happen? - Google Pixel 3 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Lots of threads with discussion about the notch itself, please continue to post your love or hate for notches on those threads. This thread is strictly for addressing the hoax theory and why you think it's either true or false.
My own opinion is a straight up not sure, I cant deny it seems unlikely Google pulled it off but on the other side of the coin there is a lot of material that makes me go, "hmmmm." I think the largest thing that comes to mind is in regards to the lost phones. It's hard to believe any outfit could be so inept and their response seems to be incredibly lackadaisical considering the corporate secrets/strategy/ intellectual property involved. I expect a response much more like what you will all recall came from the Fruit company when their phone was left in a restaurant but that absolutely didn't happen.

It would be great if there were a different phone than the one we've seen on stage for the reveal but I don't think that will happen. The leaks were pretty phony but I don't think their purpose was a giant prank. That would be very cool, but unlikely. I think I'm getting more accepting as I get older. I'm not crazy about that notch but it's not a deal breaker for me. There are too many things I like about the Pixel phones to let that ruin it. I'm glad the new forums are up. Part of the fun of a new Pixel is the conversation here. I hope it isn't just a bash the notch fest. Maybe a designated thread for that would work. Unless there is no notch...

It is a deal breaker for me

Gents, please, your love/hate of the notch already has many a thread for you to express your opinions. This one is for the alleged possibility of Google pulling one over on the leak machine or not if that be the case. Thanks for your forbearance.

You are right, the last thing I'd want to do is fuel the notch discussion. If Google pulled that off it would be great. The fact that there is even speculation about it is quite an accomplishment on their part.

I love to beat on Google as much as the next guy but there is no way I'm not throwing them some cred if they really did get one over on all of us. It would change the leak factory over night to one of much greater uncertainty. Right now I feel likei know what a phone is before the reveal almost every time.

Pixel 3XL screen protectors. They are in stock... CLICK CLICK2

The notch does look a bit too big, not sure it would be a deal breaker for me. I recently just traded my note 8 for a pixel 2 XL i missed the pure android feel so i may wait until its in the store and i can see it in person to tell if it ridiculously too big or just something to get use to. As cool as it would be for google to have tricked us all and have a surprise big notch free device i highly doubt it even a possibility , but i guess we will see in a few weeks

Lol

what i am concerned about is that apple hasn't gone after anybody for notch designs. they weren't the first, though i am quite sure many of their fans think so, but this will probably be most high profile phone with a notch even though the sales won't be there to back it up. i'm sure the apple hate will grow even larger if the XL 3 does indeed have a notch and apple makes a lawsuit against google. i am still aggravated apple started suing OEMS, especially google, to inforce their patent for one press app openings when you have multiple apps to choose from. because of apple, we have to press twice. so petty, especially for a trillion dollar company that doesn't own any factories and has the power to make working conditions better for workers even though they don't those factories. let's not forget apple is also exempt from the tariff trade war. we shall see.

Why didn't Google add more RAM for more ROM on this device knowing that they are going to charge so much for it? P.S. please bring the headphone jack back with an unlocked FM Radio chip.

It's wide open gents and you don't even need to search for duplicate threads because there are so few; you can post a thread about a wish list for the pixel 4, a thread to complain about any lack or omissions in the 3, or, a thread to discuss a lawsuit that wont happen because third doesn't get to complain about being copied. But that would be on those threads, not here. We're not even complaining about the notch here. This is just where we're discussing the possibility of Goog being involved in a subterfuge to mask exactly what they're going to deliver with the 18 Pixel devices.
At this point with Goog releasing official renders you have to figure the only trick left is if they actually have a 3rd device, the so called "Ultra". The thinking being something along the lines of Apple outing a phone which hadn't even seen the FCC to keep it secret and releasing after the leaked devices. I'm doubtful on the concept but that's the only remaining hope for those hoping to go big and notchless with Pixel this year.

Glad I didn't wait for Bionic

Went to check it out in person now that its finally released after a bazillion years. While performance-wise it delivers well and the UI os not so bad, that screen is complete GARBAGE especially being qHD. The TB screen has better quality, shoot even the OG Droid screen is less pixelated. Not to mention battery life is no better.

speaking of battery life... i don't think any of these big ol' 4G phones will ever have decent battery life(stock) unless the stock battery happens to be 5000mAh.
sure, there's always tweaks here & there and when it's rooted(well, you know the rest).
i just think it's ridiculous that they give all these phones such crappy batteries.
that and they should be built like those Panasonic Tough Books to. i want to know that i can beat someone to death with my phone and it will still be fine and dandy.

From what I've read, none of the 4g phones have 4g battery life because they are using modems that weren't designed for mobile phones. In the future, when one is developed that isn't such a battery hog, battery life will be better.

What was the MDM9600 designed for then? I'm not aware of anything but mobile applications for it. The problem is NOT the power consumption of the MDM9600. The problem is the power consumption of the MDM9600 and the MSM8655 together. You're running 2 radios full time here, unlike pretty much anything that came before it. HTC had to work with the FCC to invent measurement standards for this device. A more modern LTE modem will help a little, but until LTE is ubiquitous enough that Verizon can begin to carry voice on LTE and dump the CDMA modem, power consumption is going to suck.

What makes you say the Charge's screen is mediocre? While I dislike Samsung for a myriad of reasons, I find their display quality to be quite good, not just in vibrancy but color saturation as well. One of my employees has one and its MUCH better in the daylight than my Thunderbolt. My screen is almost unusable in the sun.

Guess he doesn't like AMOLED. I do, but I guess there are some that do not. AMOLED technically uses less power as well than the LCD screens most phones have.

A girl I work with has an Infuse and I have to say the screen is pretty freakin awesome. The SAMOLED+ with the good ole RGB stripe pattern is much better than the earlier pentile matrix versions. Plus I think with the SAMOLED+ they got color representation way more accurate.

AMOLED screens are NOT more efficient in a variety of common uses on cell phones, such as reading a text message or viewing a HUGE number of web pages. In those applications it can eat 200% to 300% more power. If your Tbolt screen is hard to see in daylight, it's probably an issue with the ROM, not the screen. Mine is plenty bright in any lighting condition. I call the screen mediocre because it's resolution is about on par with everything else out there. The screen SEEMS more vivid because the contrast is better on an AMOLED. However, honesty of colors and whites is still off.
I had a dInc AMOLED. I liked it, but it did have some serious shortcomings. It's excuse for white was very sorry, and it's brightness was the single most pathetic thing I've ever seen. I honestly don't miss that screen. The newer AMOLEDs are better, but I'm not going to venture down that road again until that technology comes a good bit further. In my opinion, it needs to become at least twice as efficient on white screens and produce more honest colors. I think it will ultimately be the technology of the future, assuming color e-paper doesn't make some good strides, but it's not there today.

Mediocre compared to what? A 240hz 55in. LED TV? I'm leaning more towards the former. Not to mention it appears you jump between googling for your info, dictionary.com, and your forum posts too much to actually comprehend the information properly or form a coherent, unbiased, individual opinion you didn't get from someone else. 1) Start by fetching the forum main pages via something like curl or wget using a text filter language like perl, python, awk (or even user javascript would work in the browser).
2) Filter out just the html that goes with the titles of the postings.
3) Use some regex magic to look for phrases like "hate" "best" "new" "when" etc.
4) Count the number of occurances by the titles or whatever else you want to do with it.
5) yay, done
Not motivated enough to actually write the class that does that though, lol

LED TV's aren't AMOLED. They're LED backlit, as opposed to cold cathode.
I did figure out how to Google things a long time ago, but I tend to read up on something and it's competing technologies before I form an opinion. Then, when I have an opinion, it's actually an informed one and not the collective wisdom of the unwashed masses.
I've gone to college. I studied Theology. I did pretty good. I didn't get a degree, and even if I did, I wouldn't brag about it because I think college is where you go when you need someone else to vouch for your knowledge instead of yourself. In my life I've been to every corner of the US, made everything from soap to parts for Pratt & Whitney jet engines, been published a few times, and lots of other things.
It wasn't exactly out of cold bitterness and some desire to dispense negativity that I wrote the [q AND a] thread pinned at the top of the Q&A forum. Or, that I've helped a fair number of people by personally answering questions and walking them through things they didn't feel comfortable with. So, you got a bone to pick with me for thinking AOSP sucks ass, or AMOLEDs aren't a visual orgasm, or I just think some people are idiots. Oh well. Plenty of people think I'm a world-class asshole. Somehow I get by, hold down jobs, manage relationships with my girlfriend and my wife (yes, they know each other well), and develop and maintain friendships. Seems to me if I was really what you say, doing those things would be a bit of a challenge, don't you?

Music to my ears
I think the worst thing about this is how it will affect the everyday Samsung phone user. They've already shown they are willing to even preemptively alter software (local search) in order to avoid lawsuits and after the court loss it's only going to get worse. What updates are on the horizon as Samsung scrambles to avoid more jury "decisions" and patent cases? Sure, maybe it forces them to do something new and imaginative and finally dump the questionable TouchWiz, but the short term could mean bad OTA updates for people who bought an amazing phone. I know I won't be going back to stock.
Some people are wondering why Samsung/Google don't wage war back holding parts or search hostage, but the reality is that they need Apple more than Apple needs them. The gigantic marketshare they hold means Google needs their users eyeballs, and Samsung cannot lose the income from supplying iComponents. They even released a statement during the trial stating they considered the divisions absolutely sealed from one another, signaling loud and clear to Apple it won't even be a bargaining chip.
I hate this. It's all the more sickly ironic when you think back to Apple fighting to survive in Microsoft's shadow, now playing an even worse villain. And Microsoft is probably the one who wins from all this. It seemed like maybe the general tech press was starting to get wise and there was a small voice of outrage beyond just the Android community starting to form in the face of this bulls***, but now that the iPhone and mini-iPad are launching it's just going to be months of the gadget press fellating a minor upgrade in software and form as Apple steamrolls more competitors.
I never understood the Apple vs Microsoft debate, like If you want a PC, just buy one and forget about Mac, who cares it's a computer. But in light of current press, I see the reasoning and I also see why Apple needs to die. Shame on them
ahh thank you. this forum needs heavy moderation!!
I would also guess that the parts Samsung sells for iPhones are under an ironclad contract and would just create another law suit. Maybe when that contract is up Samsung will double the price of those parts to get their money back.
Just be prepared for all the ones who havent purchased the SGS3 yet. Apple is now going after 4 more devices that Samsung has released since the trial to remove them from the market, and the SGS3 is one of them. It was all over Fox News yesterday. Greedy ass Apple cant take the fact that Android is overtaking them by storm, and they cant compete with the technology and speed Android now has over Apple.
What I am going to find interesting is what other technology Apple will try to use(if they try) since Samsung holds a Lte patent
Samsung already said they are ready to file a suit if the next Iphone has Lte
Imagine the Iphone being banned in the US..... heaven....
From what I understand Samsung is going to keep to its promise and take it to an appeals court that deals more directly with patents.
I saw a list of just a few of the phones that were listed that apple wanted to ban from sales, some of which like the droid charge are 1. out of date and not a big seller anyway and 2. look nothing like the iphone. It amazes me to see how low a company will go to corner the market in the smartphone/tablet industry.
I also know that the galaxy s 3 is a target of apples and the court date is sometime in 2014, which doesnt make a bit of sense since by that time the galaxy s 4 will be out or had been out for sometime and a newer phone would be on the horizon. So the lawsuit to ban the product will be irrelevant, but apple will still try to make a profit off it due to patents.

Part of the strategy is to hamper development of the S4, the same as Apple actually had a hand in the S3 (and later versions of the S2) being more round-ish than the original S2. Samsung will probably have to limit certain features of any new phones to avoid the traps Apple has laid (like having the product banned for using unified search, slide to unlock, spelling prediction, and any number of bone-stupid things Apple should have no business dictating to anyone else.) In dodging Apple's bull****, Sammy has more limited design options for the S4 right out of the gate- and like the S3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 that clearly they made look nothing like Apple's stuff... they'll probably STILL get sued.
I like to remind people how Apple blocking sales of the Galaxy Nexus reveals their true motivations. Why? The GNexus doesn't look anything like any of Apple's products, but more importantly, it runs STOCK Android- not Samsung's touchwiz. Apple could basically have sued ANYONE using the same bull**** reasons as they did to block the Nexus, but they once again went after a flagship device that they don't want in the market.
So next time you hear some Apple-apologist say the predictable: "Well if Samsung would just stop copying Apple blah blah blah..." just slap them. It's already public record: Apple sues to block Samsung's most successful designs no-matter-what. Resembles iPhone or not / Touchwiz or completely stock Android. Doesn't matter.

Apple is a lot of things, but one of them is not stupid. There is just no way that they have been this aggressive toward Samsung if Samsung truly does have this supposed hammer in their back pocket. Worst case, Apple has to pay fair licensing fees for standards essential patents--anything beyond that just doesn't pass the smell test IMO.
The latest iPad is 4G LTE, so I'm not quite sure where people get this idea from that Apple has/will have any problem using LTE in the iPhone 5.
Ha
I just came back to the droid universe, after my wife and I went thru seven Droid X2s. Verizon gave me a free move to an iPhone 4s, and I enjoyed it for a time, but I needed the LTE due to my iPhone really not doing well with data at my office. If I ever thought the battery was crap on the iPhone, I was sorely mistaken, it's terribad on this S3, and that's with Mobile Data turned off, using wifi. That being said, I am really enjoying the new hardware, and thank god there is a decent amount of community support for this device. And LTE just blew the socks off my fiber home internet connection, hell, it doubled it!
Side note, why do people compare hardware + software to the android OS? Pick an android phone and compare it to an iPhone. Don't lump every damn manufacturer of an android phone and compare it to an iPhone. The problem, for me, has always been that the iPhone has a bigger selection of apps and a LOT better accessories. Sounds simple, but when you can't find that exact case that suits you, owning an amazing device with little support... it sucks. I would never trade my new iPad for any android based tablet... can't say the same for phones tho. (although my iPhone just sold for $357 on ebay, which would never happen with any one year old android phone) I pray that Samsung sticks with this handset design... that will foster a lot of aftermarket support. Manufacturers don't like change. Make the internals better, make the the software amazing... just keep a form factor around for a bit. THAT'S why apple does so well, they have a ton of aftermarket support for a crap product that's a year or two late.

I'd have to think that you have a defective phone. Battery life on this beast is incredible. I easily get 24 hours and 4-5 hours of screen time on this phone. And that is with a much bigger screen than the iPhone. As far as resale value, that will be determined when the next phone comes out. I got $280 for a refurb rezound. Not bad.

I had an iphone 4s for like 7 months and I can honestly say that the battery on my s3 is as good or better than the 4s. Also I don't know what stores you shop at but every one I've been to has cases and such for the s3 widely available.

Yesterday was spent just getting situated with the phone and rooting it. Today I am going to read up a ton more and get smarter on it, hopefully, lol.
Regarding cases and such, you misunderstood me. I know we're both S3 owners, and we might even consider ourselves fanboys... but take the time to be honest about everything that goes with a phone, including accessories. We WANT to have the plethora available to us like Apple does, but we're not even close. Samsung finally stopped releasing different types of the same phone to different carriers, which helped a ton. Where you are not looking at is every other flippin Android device out there. I was a very early owner of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Very little community support for that device, even here on xda. Usually "community" turns into iPad or Galaxy Tab bashing... and there's not a ton of residual community. At least, for now, the S3 is sexy and everyone seems to enjoy them. The minute the S4 comes out... next year?, this community will dry up. That's the problem for me... I have seen what a large community can do for a phone, which touches almost every part of my life. Hell, I almost bought a rezound over this phone, because of the screen and the radio... but that community might as well be called a ghost town.
Quick question, are you saying a stock S3 is better than an iPhone with regards to battery life? I just started testing out the stock battery tools... trying to not load up a rom yet, as I seriously have owned the phone for less than 24 hours and want to at least know what I am fixing first, lol.
this flame war is getting annoying

Why is Google turning into Apple?

Google is still doing carrier exclusive to Verizon just like Apple did with AT&T. Why!?
-Its 2017 and Google sure as hell doesn't need extra money from a carrier exclusive.
Google trolled Apple last year for no headphone jack. This year they followed in the footsteps of Apple by removing it? Why!?
-IP67 can still be done with a headphone jack. (Samsung etc..)
-Headphone jack sound can be improved with DAC (LG)
-The USB C can still be used for audio even with a headphone jack.
Google charges $200 more for a bigger screen? Apple charges $100 more for the bigger screen and better specs?
Google still doesn't have wireless charging but they did on the Nexus 6? (All the competition has wireless charging in 2017)
Google is playing the Apple game of endless adapters to do simple basic **** so they can pocket more money.
-$20 for USB-C to 3.5mm Jack (When you lose the included one)
-$44.95 for USB-C to 3.5 mm Adapter/Charger (So you can charge your phone and listen to music at the same time...)
-It's 2017 we should be moving away from adapters and cables not adding more.
Google only 4GB of RAM like really come on. At least bump it up for the Pixel 2 XL to help justify the $200 difference.
Google's camera sticks out on this version. Why?
Up to 7 hours of battery on 15 minutes of charging? Like what does that even mean? That's completely relative to the user. Why not say up to 70% in 15min or whatever.
Google why are you still using USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) and not Gen 2(10Gbps)?
The Pixel 2 is a big improvement over the Pixel but still, falls short of the competition IMO. (Samsung, LG, OnePlus etc..)
I'm not saying the Pixel 2 is a bad phone. Its just targeted towards the type of people that buy iPhones.
I miss the phones targeted towards developers aka the Nexus line. Why not have a Nexus and Pixel line?
I'm still rocking the Nexus 6P. I couldn't justify the price for the Pixel XL and still have trouble justifying the price for the Pixel 2 XL
The lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack really rubs me the wrong way. Especially since they trolled Apple last year for not having one. Google fans went nuts over that and couldn't understand why Apple fans acted like it was no big deal. Now Google does the same thing and the majority of Google fans act like it's no big deal. Just shrugging it off. I have such a hard time supporting Google anymore. I've been a huge Google fan since the first Nexus device. I just feel so left behind now. My respect for Google is diminishing fast.
I realize that these are all nitpicking complaints but come on. With that price tag, everyone should really be nitpicking.
The lack of 3.5mm headphone jack has me on the fence. Every time I see an iPhone user walking around with the adapter to listen to music I laugh. It looks so damn goofy and awkward. Picturing myself with the adapter and my Bose headphones for the Pixel XL just makes me shake my head.
I'm not going to touch on everything you said....a bit too much for me. But a few things:

No idea....I think this one is pretty stupid. Unless the other carriers have flat out told them they don't want the phone, I have no idea why they continue to do this. Just stupid.

Yep, but what do you expect really? iPhones sell a ton, and I think a lot of these companies go as along as they can with trying to be "unique" but it's like they can only hold off so long before they say "ok screw it, just do what the other companies do so people will be familiar with it." I won't be surprised one bit if in the next few years Android becomes more locked down like iOS as well.
I'm not saying this stuff is good or whatever....but it is what it is. I have no real reason to "upgrade" from my Pixel XL to an XL 2, I just see no tangible justification for it. And I have to say I'm also getting pretty close to going back to an iPhone because the things that make Android unique are slowly but surely going away. If all Android is going to be is a Google-skinned iPhone.....then I'll just buy an iPhone because Apple does that better. It's kind of sad that they only things really keeping me on Android at this point are the Notification LED, Textra, and Nova Launcher. That's pretty much it.

Okay, I shouldn't have really sad a big improvement because it's not. They did fix the major complaints people had with the Pixel though.
If Google ever locks down the phone and doesn't allow it to be unlocked and rooted for custom ROMs I'm so done with them. The direction Google is going I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did that either. I would be all over the Galaxy S8 if the US variants could be unlocked. If everyone locks Android down I would seriously consider looking at my first ever iPhone. I understand why Google is starting to follow the Apple model. I just wish they would have a separate line of phones for developers. If they brought back the Nexus line and still had the Pixel line that would be the perfect solution.

Essential 2 possibility?

I'm starting to look for a new phone and the Essential has piqued my interest, but, it seems like there have been quite a few start up problems associated with new products.
So, since the World Mobile Congress is happening at the end of the month and Essential has a spot reserved in it, I was wondering if there has been any leaks, rumors or news associated with it? I was hoping for news of an Essential 2 or a ph-2? New release? Anything?
Thx.
Probably just new colors and accessories. They have their hands full dealing with the PH-1.
Sent from my Essential PH-1 using Tapatalk
Maybe they will showcase new PH-1 accessories that they have no intention of ever making. LOL
Just maybe, Essential is winding down their beta project (PH-1) and is focused on their first truly production phone.

Maybe... Although with this phone flopping the way it did, I don't know how much I would invest in the next phone if I were them or their investors... The PH-1 was a failure. They lost money on every unit they sold. If Andy had not raised so much capital to keep them afloat, they would have closed their doors by now.
The vision was ambitious and great. The execution, not so much.
There are a lot of B.S. articles out there no doubt, and there were some growing pains... But I wouldn't give up my PH-1 for any other phone right now. I love it... no case since launch, and still looks great, camera is pretty good now. battery life spectacular, Looking forward to whatever they have to offer next

I like most things about it. I am just annoyed at bugs, and the progression of updates isn't as good as I would have hoped. Yes, they put out 16 camera updates over 5 months, but that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement... that they HAD to put out so many updates just to get the camera up to "mediocre" status... LOL
Like anything, if it works for you and makes you happy, enjoy it! I am just on the fence with it...

Failure?
You need to define failure.
I have a friend on Sprint that has hated just about every phone she had Android and iPhone.
She absolutely loves the PH-1.
I have a PH-1 and it is by far the best phone I've owned.
Here is my list that I've owned:
SCH-i600W (Windows flip phone)
SCH-i760
Treo 700W
BB Storm 1
BB Storm 2
DroidX
Droid Bionic
Droid Razr
Droid Razr Maxx
Galaxy S4
LG G3
iPhone 6 plus
Nexus 6P
LG G6
Essential PH-1
There are some true failures in that list.
If you want to base success on how many sold you might be right.
What they learned though was how difficult it is to launch a device.
They leaned to roll out updates.
They learned how they need to support customers.
They learned how to partner, although they picked a crappy one (Sprint).
But overall as a new player in the high end market, I wouldn't call them a failure.
Failure defined by sales numbers and how much money they lost on this phone.
SquireSCA said:
Yeah, few failures on that list. I have had a few that were not on the list as well, I am betting that we all have.
One thing that I will say, and this is based on several tech articles that I have read in the past couple weeks, is that the market is changing a bit. It's not the wide open market that it was in a lot of ways, even just a few years ago. One article pointed out that a company like OnePlus, got really lucky. They hit at the right time, but for someone else to do it again in 2017/18 faces more challenges.
Oh well, time will tell I guess.
I love new products and the more there are, the more competition there is. I don't want a world made up of just Apple and Samsung. But we are gonna have to sift through a few lemons to find that occasional diamond in the rough...

Considering that Google only sold ~4 Million of Pixel and Pixel 2 phones of all types last year, calling the Essential a complete failure might be a bit premature.
The sales numbers might be low, but I think that this is just indicative of how difficult it is to compete with Apple and Samsung and nothing else.
I like innovative an new products.
No matter what they say about Essential, they were first to the party with a phone that had a huge screen and minimal bezels.
They have a build quality and hand feel second to none.
I don't plan on replacing this phone for a while.
I only with I could get a Poetic Affinity case. That is my favorite case and I've had one on my last three phones.
To be fair, 80k is a lot less than 4 mill. Lol

88K.
But think about the size of the companies and length of time in the market.
Google had all year and only sold 4 Million. That's 333K per month. That's a rally low number.
Essential started shipping in the second half of the year and was an unknown company.
So if you put it into perspective. We don't know if the company is a failure or not, is all I'm saying.
The time on the market is not statistically significant enough to draw any conclusion.
I just know I like my PH-1.
88k shipped, not sold. Plus, how many returns?
Sorry guys. Didn't mean to start a phone bashing thread.

I hope the company survives. Overall I am pretty happy with my PH-1. I much prefer it to any Scamsung product. And everywhere you go, Samsung and Apple are the only choices. That needs to end. Can't find an HTC anywhere to put my hands on despite it being critically acclaimed as one of the best devices of 2017. Pathetic. I asked about the PH-1 at Best Buy and the employee said they might have 1 in the back but there just wasn't enough display space. They had about 30 Samsung and iPhones on display though.....

I can't think of any other phone I like better.
I just wish that Poetic made the Affinity case for the PH-1. :crying:

Considering that officially they only sell in the US...
It is a new product. I doubt anybody would expect too a million phones in 3 months or something.
Has some issues, yes. First gen stuff always does. Even second and third gen do.
Works Ok for a first gen. Does what I need to do.
I don't have brand loyalty to anything, may buy something else in a few months. Maybe even a PH-2...

Tech plateau since about 2018?

How does everyone here feel about phone tech becoming more and more stagnant without any major breakthroughs for probably half a decade now? 2010's were a pretty exciting times with so many valid and unique choices on the market, but lately everything is bland and pretty much the same in terms of features and aesthetics. Differences between major and minor brand flagships is literally just paying for that Crapple logo or not. That excitement of getting a new phone is just about fizzled out these days.
Yeap. All hype up with little to show, like 108mp cam sensors when even top of the line pro cams use under 21mp for their full frame sensors!
Android Google went to Apple hell too with scoped storage.
That's why I bought my second Note 10+ 5 months ago. The first one still looks, feels and runs like new... it's just plain fun to use. Still running on Pie like a bat out of hell.
Unfortunately for Samsung, so far, the N10+ marks their zenith. Try not to try so hard to drop the ball Sammy...
Samsung's new definition of a power user; someone that uses their phone as a right hand, hand warmer
Honestly advertising aside, Sammy wasn't a hot potato since like S5 which is when I dropped my interest in em. And god-awful blueberry aside, no one really bothered with a physical QWERTY that is catastrophically lacking today.
I will say that I am glad to have a slew of "mid-range" priced phones with top specs available like ZTE has been doing.

I lucked out with the N10+ which I bought near it's release date. I'm holding a dual drive, 1+tb PC with a near perfectly factory color calibrated display in my hand. Gene Roddenberry dreamed about having something like this.
Samsung's and Android's progression is not linear or consistent and now backsliding 2 steps with every step forward. They seem to think hype sells like a traveling hawker selling rot gut tonics. Hey it worked for the Covid flu... until the ugly truths started coming out.
Your only as good as your last phone sold, something they should understood by now... not.

The CCP is pervasive and embedded throughout all Chinese manufacturing. This threat is completely underrated. You see the robo dogs with bullhorns that they have policing their locked down cities -now-? Trust them?
