Public WiFi Sign In - Vivo Nex Questions & Answers

If I visit my local coffee place or Starbucks and select the wifi, usually on all phones including Huawei and Xiaomi an android WI fi sign in would show in notifications telling me that I have to sign in to connect into the wifi.
This phone does not and therefore I cannot check accept or any other step that the public wifi requires for "accepting terms"
Also tried at airports, cannot see any setting that would need to be adjusted
Thoughts, advise

Earn money with your android device

Earn money with your phone through wifi and phone cell towers UK included.
Navizon have just released a new software version of Navimote (v1.07) for Android handsets.
Ever wondered how you could transform the miles you travel into cash in your account. Well, now you can with Navizon rewards.
When you use Navizon with a GPS device, every Wi-Fi access point and Cell tower that you pass by will be logged and turned into points on your account.
If they are discovered by you (If you are the first one to map them)
15 points for each cellular tower
3 points for each Wi-Fi access point
If they have already been mapped by someone else
(except in a few areas)
1 point for each Wi-Fi access point
2 points for each cellular tower
Once you have 10,000 points, you can redeem them for a reward, and $15 will be wired to your Paypal account (minus the Paypal fee in the amount of $0.29).
Note: You may also choose to redeem a reward for a free upgrade to Navizon Premium.
The idea is fairly simple: some users who have GPS enabled phones, or a standalone GPS device map the wireless landscape (ie. the location of Cell towers and Wi-Fi Access Points) wherever they go, so that other users who don’t have GPS will be able to use a positioning system that works independent of GPS.
Instead, location is achieved by triangulating those same Wi-Fi and/or Cellular signals, whose location is now known thanks to the "mappers."
Like in every community, there are the people who do the work and others who benefit from it.
So users who don't want to map any points, but still want the full featured version of Navizon, need to buy it.
But the money is not going in our pockets, it is going in the pockets of those who make Navizon possible, by mapping the wireless landscape wherever they go.
SetUp Instructions.........
Please uninstall the old one and search for Navimote in the market.
The new one is version 1.0.7.
When you start Navimote, click "menu".
It has the usual options (enable/disable, register token and manage account).
Under the "advanced" option you have "Reset network settings":
Use this is you can't be located - it will re-establish the connection with the server.
And you also have the new options:
Power mode:
High = Navimote will always attempt to use the GPS on, in order to collect data
Normal = Navimote will will attempt to use the GPS only when the phone is connected to an external power source. This makes sense for people who always connect the phone to a car charger when driving.
Navizon account:
Enter your Navizon username/password and you will accumulate points in your Navizon account when you collect data.
Sync:
Upload the data you have collected to the Navizon server.
Just like all other versions of Navimote, the collected cells/wifi or the number of rewarded points are not displayed on the screen - so you will have to check your rewards page on http://www.navizon.com if you want to see your points status. (You can use "manage account" to do this)
I recommend that the power mode is set to normal, and that the phone is connected to external power when you're in the car.
Upload the data every now and then (maybe once per day) and you'll see points accumulating in your account.
To collect as many points as possible, make sure that your phone is configured to let applications use the GPS, and also try to leave WiFi on when collecting.
(Power/profile managers may interfere with the GPS and the WiFi state, so if you use one of these please make sure it does not prevent Navimote from using the GPS and that it does not switch off WiFi.
I use a profile manager and have configured it to allow GPS use and switch WiFi on whenever the phone is connected to AC power. I've also configured Navimote with the "Normal" power mode and it works well.)

Yea thanks for that m8
Glad to have you onboard
Just to update have already started logging cell towers up, and have 4,526 points already within 3 hrs, This app is MINT!!
this stuff legit or is it hokie?
Sounds Hokie.
10000 towers thats 15 dollars for every tower in Arizona.
You'll never make 10,000 points at that rate, unless you seriously travel. And if you have the money for all of that traveling, what's 15 dollars to you?
This sounds like a good way for a company to trick a bunch of muppets into going out and field sweeping for radio sources, for them, instead of having to hire someone...
Is this each time you pass a tower you get points, or does it have to be "new" towers? So if I pass one, I can only get points for it once? Say, if I keep this on during commuting to work and back, I will only get points the first time I pass them, and then never again?
will this work in Australia?
When you pass already mapped towers, yes you still get points. Just not as much as the first time you map it.
Yes this app works world wide.
If you hit the navimote web site their faq will tell all on how it works.
And yes this is legal, the faq will tell you how the money is made
Also this app will benefit people who travel a lot in their jobs. Or very keen ramblers! Lol.
This program is great I have always used navizon or navimote.

Major Security Flaw Found In Android Phones

Worth reading http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/16/android_impersonation_attacks/
and perhaps following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086878 (ok -- maybe not -- that thread is pretty useless)
In brief:
The weakness stems from the improper implementation of an authentication protocol known as ClientLogin in Android versions 2.3.3 and earlier, the researchers from Germany's University of Ulm said. After a user submits valid credentials for Google Calendar, Contacts and possibly other accounts, the programming interface retrieves an authentication token that is sent in cleartext. Because the authToken can be used for up to 14 days in any subsequent requests on the service, attackers can exploit them to gain unauthorized access to accounts.
Announced today, apparently there will be silent OTA patches for Contacts and Calendar.
that is crazy!!!!
this made me feel a little at ease, just a little.
The attacks can only be carried out when the devices are using unsecured networks, such as those offered at Wi-Fi hotspots.

not sure what else to say about it.
Bloggers and media like to hype this stuff up.
Bottom line is this. Don't connect to a public wifi you don't trust, and always log in via SSL.
The issue here stems from using public wifi that allows people to sniff your traffic.
For instance:
You walk into starbucks, I'm already there and with my phone I create a mobile hotspot, I call it "StarbucksWifi" for the SSID. You're none the wiser and you connect with your phone (OR with your laptop, it's not just your phone but the media didn't share that).
I turn on Shark Mobile (Wireshark) and start capturing all those lovely packets. I then dissect them later to see your login info etc.
Again, don't connect to public wifi you don't trust or are unsure about. Starbucks uses ATT for hotspots and the wifi name is always ATT from what I remember.

Not a real issue unless you're one to use unsecured wifi networks.

I love hearing about this kind of stuff. It's good to keep current....now I know why they have that accept conditions page at wifi places like starbucks and mcdonalds. You couldn't create that with your hot spot...or could someone

thanks for the info fellas. I rarely connect to wifi spots when Im out and about. Actually, the only time I do is when im home or at work. Looks like im good.
While "always log in via SSL" is a great suggestion, the Google services aren't going to go over a secure channel (unless you have VPN enabled).
The same warning should apply if you aren't using WPA2 -- the older WEP (and WPA) is still common on many "secure" wireless connections, especially home units, and takes not more than a few minutes to crack with widely available tools.
http://www.google.com/search?q=wep+crack
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Access
WPA2 has replaced WPA; WPA2 requires testing and certification by the Wi-Fi Alliance. WPA2 implements the mandatory elements of 802.11i. In particular, it introduces CCMP, a new AES-based encryption mode with strong security. Certification began in September, 2004; from March 13, 2006, WPA2 certification is mandatory for all new devices to bear the Wi-Fi trademark.
This is what I was asking about in another post. I like to vacation where I have 0-1 bars on the phone, and motel wifi is available. I would like my pet/house sitting service to be able to call me when I'm away.
Also kid moved to England. We use Skype, Skype on Android is wifi only.
Mostly do use home WPA encrypted, but there should be some kind of safety for those who do need the service. Do not use the phone for personal stuff like banking, etc. even on a network.
And there are areas here in the west where there is no service for any carrier. Canyons are not conducive to line of site.
SGS4G does have wifi calling built in.

Is there a way to make wifi not auto-connect?

I am tired of driving by a McDonalds and Starbucks and my phone thinks it's an open connection and it auto connects. Then I lose data connection for a few because obviously it isn't an open connection and it takes a while to disconnect from the wifi and find the data connection again.

I have those same settings, and because I've connected to a Starbucks before it thinks I can connect to every one. Maybe I'll just go in there and have it forget the Starbucks that I usually go to.
Tasker looks like an interesting option but man that's a bunch of complicated settings!

think your first choice is best--keep apps to minimum--less issues
I wish there was a way to go through network by network and select autoconnect statuses. All desktop/laptop systems have this option.
Also I do not like the idea of my phone blaring out "I am looking to connect to these networks!" whenever I am not connected to a preferred wifi access point. It is kind of ridiculous.
Surely there is a solution to this, an app, or a setting in an alternate ROM.

Here's another potentially complicated option. Install and setup Llama or another location based profiles app. Set it to only turn on WiFi when at home, work, or at "your" Starbucks.

Unable to access the internet via WiFi connection

Please help! My R7 plus F cannot access the internet again thru WiFi connection. This is not the first time ( I guess 3rd or 4th), but it now lasted for 4 straight days (and counting). I am very sure that our connection has no problem because I'm using it in my laptop, and I also already refreshed my router, my Oppo unit and even made a factory reset (which was advised by their customer service agent) but nothing worked. :crying::crying::crying:
I have not installed apps that would control my internet like HotSpot Shield or Antivirus. Hope someone could figure this out.
I don't want to bring it to the Service Center (it would take about a minimum of two weeks) aside from I don't have an extra phone. Thank you so much to all who would take time to help. God bless!

What exactly do you mean it cannot access Internet, are you saying that it cannot locate/scan WiFi connections or are you saying that you are unable to connect to available WiFi networks.
If it is the former, I was able to fix my problem by installing the latest OTA update/Color OS ROM. The latter I have yet to encounted
Oh..sorry for not giving clear details. My unit can do both, scan and connect to WiFi. But once it is connected to our network at home, the apps and browsers cannot access/use that connection. The browsers and playstore shows error, the Facebook app says "cannot connect right now" and the rest of the apps do tge same.
Though I haven't tried it again with other networks this time.

How to resolve Connected to WiFi but no internet access for Android
Its true that smartphones are not smart without internet access. Most of the Smartphone users are on Android platform and are increasing day by day. There are numerous Android phones in market from various manufacturers. One issue is common in these droid devices be it from Samsung, Sony , HTC , Motorola , Micromax or any other brand and that is at some point we see these devices connected to wifi but could not connect to internet. Below are simple tricks to try out when you face this issue on your Android device next time.
Method 1 - Change WiFi Setting
Step1: Navigate to Settings > Wifi > Long select on your Wifi Network to see Modify Network Option
Step2: Select Modify Network option
Step3: Enter password
Step4: Check Show Advance option
Step5: Scroll down to view advance options which must be available by now.
Step6: Change IP Settings from DHCP to Static
IP Address : Most probably your Gateway address will be 192.168.1.1 change your IP Address my changing last digit in this address use any value preferably between 2 to 20.
Change DNS1 to 8.8.8.8
Change DNS2 to 8.8.4.4
Step7: Save these settings.
Step8: Login into your wifi network if required, you device should be able to connect to internet by now.
Method 2: Reset Router and Wifi Network
Step1: Navigate to Settings > Wifi > Long select on your Wifi Network to see Forget Network Option
Step2: Select Forget Network
Step3: Switch off your router and wait for 10-15 seconds before restarting it.
Step4: Restart your Wifi router
Step5: Reboot your phone
Step6: Search for your Wifi Network in available Network lists.
Step7: Connect to your network and check if device is connected to internet or not.
Step8: If you are connected to internet by now then you are done else perform Step 2 to Step 8 from Method 1.
Method 3
Update your phone and Router date and time to match internet provider date and time to check if all three are in Sync.
Method 4
If none of above method works than download any Wifi issue Fixing application such as WiFi Fixer. This application will analyze and resolve issues if your device is connected to wifi but not able to connect to internet.

You need to provide more info ie what version of Android & security patch date .
Anyhow, You should always use a VPN when accessing a public wifi, only use a trusted provider (many VPN companies are dodgy, they severe you their adds, harvest your data etc many even appear to be controlled by governments ef China, Iran, etc) Use a list of trusted VPN's from a trusted organisation like like the EFF ... though you may trust someone else more ...) Set up a VPN and see if Bluetooth starts, before messing with certs.
Do you have Bluetooth tethering on? Some apps may be able to create a hotspot if allowed.
See "user credentials" in settings for any EXTRA installed certificates, normally this will be empty, unless you or your work or an app have installed a certificate.
Do not mess with system certificates unless you know what you are doing. however you can probably disable most of them, I have, you just have to remember that if you get error msgs warnings from apps or websites this is likely why. Which ones you disable will depend on who you trust & which country you are in.

Sorry, just trying to cover all possibilities as I have no idea what you know about security certs, so I try not to assume anything, though I did assume you have turned off Bluetooth scanning already ? Was there a reason you suspect BT certs is your problem? Is there another device listed as connected to your phone when BT turns itself on?
OK, good you are on a relatively recent security patch it seems so many vulnerabilities should already be patched, if it is actually some sort of security issue you have. That said there have already been some Bluetooth related vulnerabilities in 2019 eg this one from March CVE-2019-2009, but it needs BT turned on already, so not your problem. (should have also asked before are you on stock with selinux enforcing?)
I believe Google Play services can sometimes turn on Bluetooth, check "recent location requests" in settings (also might show you another app that is doing it?) Then you can go to, settings> apps> advanced>permissions>location & change setting for Play Services This might of course affect other features you want ... so maybe turn off another app listed there especially if it was listed in "recent location requests" when BT has turned itself on.
No other devices listed on my account
Am useing stock selinux enforcing not google play services as it only gets turned on when on public WiFi will check locations history

Good, you should be pretty secure then.
As I understand it, Play Services can be used by other apps to send location requests, it may activate location when it sees a public wifi, so it could be why some people have reported it turning on Bluetooth as this is also part of location. However I'm not 100% clear exactly how this works, so I may be wrong.
