Bluetooth audio stuttering in car - Vivo Nex Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
when I'm playing music in the car by bluetooth, the music stutters every 10-30 secs for a short time (0,5s or something). I tried this with Spotify and Deezer. It also occurs when the display is on and the phone is charging. Am I the only one with this problem?
What I tried to solve this:
- allow high power consumption in background for Spotify (and Deezer when I had it)
- clear cache of bluetooth apps
- reinstall spotify
- uninstall Vivo apps like shown in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nex/how-to/guide-vivo-nex-s-apps-safe-to-uninstall-t3813308
Nothing helped.
I had the same issue with a LG G3, but never with a Nexus or a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
I think there is a solution for the problem with LG phones. You have to ignore optimizations for the bluetooth apps like shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4_hD1rEbRE
But I cant find this option at the Vivo Nex.
Thanks for helping.

Sometimes the problem is not the software nor the firmware but the silicon. It just happens! I've been a victim.

I dont use a case and also tried have it laying on the passenger seat. It's always the same in the car.
But it does not happen with my bluetooth headphones (Bose), so it might have to do something with compatibility, bluetooth codec etc?
I've tried to change the setting in the developer options, but when I reconnect with the car it always swaps back to the old/default options. Dont know if this is the right way to change this settings...

See screenshot

The setting the YouTube video shows is located in Settings\Battery\High background power consumption. Look for your app and select. Keep us informed of the outcome. Also, close all apps before you run your music streaming app. Turn off WiFi.

I did. But on the Nex S you cant do this setting for system apps like Bluetooth. Only for installed apps, like in this case Spotify.
WiFi was off, all other apps were closed.

Go to your friend's car and pair your device to his car radio Bluetooth. If no problem, then it could be your car radio Bluetooth compatibility. If you can duplicate what you want to do on another car radio with no problem, then you're halfway there.

Did not try this yet.
But the stutter happens only in the car and only with the Nex, not with the Samsung S7 Edge. Also when the music is downloaded. But no problem with the Nex and other bluetooth music boxes, headphones etc.
Could I try some kind of logging the BT communication to find out what disturbs the music transfer?
Is there a command for logcat that only observes the BT communication?

Don't know about logging Bluetooth. Perhaps someone here can help with that. Look in the Play Store for an app than can do that.

Yes, this is happening to me too. The car is a 2013 Kia Sportage if that helps.
It's happening to me every couple of minutes for 10 to 15 seconds, and is really annoying. I haven't tried anything yet.

I connect my NEX-S to my Pioneer aftermarket car radio via Bluetooth for Amazon Music and have no problems. Everything flows smoothly. I haven't made any changes to my Bluetooth settings.

It works fine in my girlfriend's 2013 Ford Fiesta, so it's just my car that's the problem. Has anyone had any joy with this?

It's been a couple of months, so I was wondering whether anyone else had experienced this.

Still no-one? It's doing my head in!

Works great for me in an Skoda Octavia

Works as intended with a 2011 BMW. Only issue I have is that the nex seems to kill the music app service in the background after some time in pause and so the radio cannot call the play function again. I then have to reopen the app (even though allowed for high consumption and locking it in recent apps) and play 'manually'.

[Q] Bluetooth reconnecting every 10 minutes

Hi all,
Been reasonably happy with the z3 so far but I'm having problems with Bluetooth connectivity, specifically in my car. I'm used to an iphone, which works flawlessly, but the z3 only seems to be able retain a connection for 10 mins before slowly reconnecting. It's become frustrating as it restarts some of my tasker profiles(?).
Has anyone else had similar issues? Are there any known fixes for this?
I've tried turning off stamina, wifi, bluetooth timeout, display timeout, re-pairing my device - nothing has helped!
Cheers,
Russ

The normal Stamina mode (not ultra) won't disconnect any connection just limit background process.
This can be bug in firmware So try to repair it by PC companion

cause if it happen with car it can be software compatibility & ...
Thanks for the reply. I thought I would update.
I did try checking for firmware updates but I found a different solution shortly after. I downloaded the 'Xperia Z1 Bluetooth Fix' from the google play store, installed it and selected the Tune2Air device (when it was in range). Since then I've had no reconnecting problems! I have no idea what the app has done but it has completely solved the issues I was having. I suggest giving it a go if you are having similar symptoms. :good:

I get this all the time, constant every couple of seconds when connected to my Mercedes Comand unit..
I will download this app and test it out, hopefully it sorts it.
I have Volvo V40 and when I step in my car with my bluetooth on, I see on my Z3 Bluetooth connect and then disconnect. This repeats all the time. When I then disable bluetooth and enable, the problem is gone. I don't know for sure, but what I have see on my car's phone menu, although I get these disconnects on my phone , the disconnects are not noticed by my car. But again, I didn't look into that yet. Do you have similar problems?
Hi all,
Great to know im not crazy bcuz im having the same issues in my toyota as the volvo. My phone automatically tries to pair & sometimes this works flawlessly, yet other times it connects, stalls, then spends an age tring to reconnect & all the while the cars head unit still perceives a connection. What i hav noticed is that i get great connections (fast & from where i left off) when i pause before switching off my car. If i dont pause then i need to manually connect even if the phone says its pairing with my car. Iv come from a nokia n8 which worked flawlessly however i could not control the volume from the phone which i can do from the z3 & i was wondering if the problem could be with either the phone or stereo having conflicting memory of what was last played, volume level , etc. As there must be data stored somewhere on either or both devices.
Look at this page for an explanation of Sony, seems to be a problem from the bluetooth version of the car:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...s-connecting-disconnecting/td-p/853609/page/2
I dont think its necessarily the car as the problem i outlined is resolved if i pause the playing music before cutting power. I should correct an earlier comment. My problem is with playing music from my phones harddrive via a player such as the native music player, vlc music player, music visualiser, etc rather than streaming music so im not sure what peolpe using cloud services or internet radio can do.
Does anyone know why pausing the music before leaving the car is necessary when in my experience using bluetooth 3.0 didnt require this?

The official page says nothing about it, but the SBH52, which I have and which this unit replaces, can indeed be used while charging, so I would be extremely surprised if the SBH54 didn't have the same capability. Previously had the MW600 and that lack of ability to use while charging annoyed me too.
What annoys me to no end is the absence of key-lock. my current MW600 turns on, or changes volume, or channel by it self. but i see the new 54 doesn't have this feature either.
Good device?
Very few models have the sony's clip design, the Smart Wireless Headset pro (2012) is the best of the best for me (12 hrs battery life).
EDIT#1: Interested in the headset, I found it:
Bluetooth Stereo Headset (Jan-2015)
wwwDOTsony-asiaDOTcom/product/mdr-ex31bn
Looks better (10.5 hrs battery life, see link for full specs) because it has Wireless ANC. Don't know why the SBH54 forgot this premium feature, again, a very rare device made by SONY.
EDIT#2: I found a Walkman alternative:
8GB M Series MP3 Walkman® (Black)
Model: NWZ-M504/B (Sep-2014?)
wwwDOTsony-asiaDOTcom/product/nwz-m504
Still looking better for me (15 hrs of battery life, see link for full specs).
Why SONY is the only one with those features?.
awesome.. will try it

Hey guys, I have some questions about this Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH54 ..
1- Does its FM radio have built in digital tuner which can pinpoint the exact radio frequency to receive the radio channels .. or it is automatic search only ?
2- Can I use it with VOIP apps as Skype and viber ?
3- Can I connect it with more than one device as the previous edition sbh52 ?
4- Can I connect it with the laptop via bluetooth ?
Thanks in advance ..
Guys! I just received this as freebie from Sony Xperia India on pre ordering the Z5 Premium Dual!!!

With Xiaomi Mi6:
Its hardly 2 days, while I'm using it with Xiaomi Mi6, and up till now, it worked very well, except for two major issues:
1. I can't receive notifications from any app, despite of giving full permissions on phone to this app and apps sending notifications.
2. I can't dial the number from call logs, although call logs are displaying and I can navigate these.
One minor issue is, if I play music from Pulsar music app, SBH54 can't display the track details, it only shows MI6 playing. But if I shutdown its app from Mi6, while Pulsar is still playing, device starts displaying the music track information. However, when I changed my music player to Media Monkey along while its app was running, device worked fine and displayed the music track information. So it looks like, app is not cooperative with every music player.
With LG Nexus 6:
However when I used it with LG Nexus 6, SBH54 was able to receive and display notifications. I tried with Google+ and Google Play. Note: I used both phones simultaneously connected...
I will update if I find anything else...
If anyone finds solution to above mentioned problems with Mi6, would really appreciate any help...

- It does both. You can tune it by increment or decrement the channel digits, or press for long to search for the working channel.
2- Can I use it with VOIP apps as Skype and viber ?
- I haven't tried it, but I think it would work. I have another sony headset MDR-XB80BS which worked fine with Skype.
3- Can I connect it with more than one device as the previous edition sbh52 ?
- Yes, I tried it with Mi6 and Nexus 6.
4- Can I connect it with the laptop via bluetooth ?
- I haven't tried it yet, but as it can work with two devices, then it should work with one laptop and one cell phone...

Bluetooth Car Connection Spotify problem

Hi folks,
I got this new phone and I have a question regarding Bluetooth and Spotify. With my old smartphones(ZUK Z2 Pro or Samsung S7) connecting Spotify through Bluetooth, I can change songs/volumes on my car dash entertainment system. But with this smartphone I can not. Only thing shown is "Sony XZ Premium", which is the name of the device.
Do I need special configurations for this phone to get it work with the dash system?
Yours
I laso tested other apps like vlc etc. and none of them are controlable with the wheel controls or the car system. Seems to be a bug....
I don't have an issue with music control via my car to Deezer.
There is an general issue with bluetooth in Android 7.1.1 version. I have a problem with song information not being updated, however my car controls works, for most of the time. It seems like this problem is not present in newer cars/radios.
Yeah, I tried today also other apps like VLC/Deezer/Music app and all of them have this bug. I hope there is a fix soon. It is really annoying while driving that I can not change a song I don't want to listen to. I contaced also Sony Xperia Care, but they wanted to tell me it the car which is defective and not the smartphone...
sorry to go off on a tangent, but have you got deezer to work? I cannot for the life of me get deezer to work for me. Can you let me know what settings you are using, eg cache, etc... I have a support call open with deezer, even trying their beta but app just does not work - does not play anything...
Yeah I'm having this issue with Google Play music. Guessing it's a Bluetooth 5 codec.
Reported on Sony's forums as well,
Fingers crossed for a fix

I have the same problem, Spotify will not update the track information on what's playing. I hope there is a fix for it soon, kinda annoying. That and the wifi issues. Lucky I have unlimited data.
Mine just connected like normal. Seems like it sounds better than my last phone also. I did have a problem where it kinda froze the Bluetooth on my receiver and had to restart that. My receiver is pretty old though. Spotify working fine with it but with your same issue
Same issue with a mini cooper s 2017. I'm able to connect to the car for phone calls and contact sharing but unable to play any music via bluetooth. It seems that the phone shows as connected but the car just says as connecting. I really hope this issue is fixed soon.

Well Minis are technically BMWs so I guess the bluetooth interface is the same.
I managed to stream audio to my friend's Chevy Cruize but without the streering wheel controls (skip, vol up/down).=
Try pairing again and update your iDrive system (ask your dealership for more info about that)

After messing around with settings and bluetooth I was able to achieve a connection to media audio. If you have Google Play Music installed, that is part of the bluetooth culprit.
1. Force stop Google Play Music under app settings.
2. Turn off bluetooth.
3. Toggle bluetooth back on, and under BMW/Mini go to the media menu and select your phone, after a few seconds you should be able to achieve a bluetooth media connection and you can run Google Play Music again.
I'm not sure if this can fix the spotify issue, but I was able to get my Google Play Music to work via bluetooth on my Mini, it is kind of annoying having to do all those steps anytime I get off the car, but then again, my drives are usually pretty long so I don't mind doing it at least a couple times a day.
Let me know if that worked for you.

Bluetooth issues in Vehicle

I've paired my pixel 2 with my uconnect system in my Jeep. Two issues, 1 the metadata (song titles and track info) doesn't show on the screen in my car. This worked fine on my last several phones. I've tried deleting and pairing again but it doesn't help. 2, the navigation directions from Google maps do not come through my car's speakers despite having that option checked in gmaps settings. Anyone having similar problems and figured out a fix? I'm on 8.1 Dev preview, and this also did not work on 8.0. I can't imagine that the phone isn't capable.
It appears there are lots of issues with Bluetooth on the Pixel 2s but no fixes that I can find. Hopefully Google will fix these soon as it's very frustrating getting a new very expensive phone which doesn't even do what you're old one did.

Terrible, hope they fix it soon. Thought maybe 8.1 would help but no luck.
I feel sorry for you guys. OG Pixel had bluetooth issues on some cars and some of those issues are still not fixed 1 year later.
Bluetooth is great for me on my cars. Both newer GM vehicles. One with Android Auto, one without.
I have an SRT Hellcat with UConnect. It completely does the same type of stuff. Sometimes it fails to transfer calls. It also shows "Pixel 2" often rather than song titles, etc. If I disconnect BLE and reconnect it usually works better the second time. It is annoying.
How do they screw this up every year. Using play music now completely locks up my uconnect RHR radio. I really wish Google would test things before rolling out. I wish they would just release there new phones on the previous Android version and have a beta of the current since they always screw something major up.
---------- Post added at 04:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:17 AM ----------
I upgraded my uconnect from 2.600 to 2.700 and deleted the device pairing a couple of times and now I can at least play media again although I no longer have song data displaying which was there before at least before my radio would lock up.
I also tried changing the Bluetooth codec via developer settings to ACC. However, after changing, it reverts on its own. I read that the November security patch supposedly contains some BT fixes, fingers crossed!
On my car (BMW 335i from 2008) the Bluetooth is so messed up that while I can pair the Pixel 2, if I actually play any audio it reboots the car's entertainment system and deletes all Bluetooth pairings.
The 8.1 beta doesn't fix the problem, either, so I'm not too hopeful about the next patch.

Interestingly, I found a fix for my Bluetooth issue at least. In Android 8.1, they added the ability to set the AVRCP version back to 1.3 in Developer Options. (8.0 moved the default up to 1.4 and in 8.0 there was actually no option to set it below 1.4) Setting AVRCP 1.3 and the SBC audio codec fixed my vehicle Bluetooth issues.
Hmm didnt know of bluetooth issues. So mine paired but wont connect to my 2012 mazdaspeed3, but my aftermarket headunit in my 89 ram50 connects right up and has no issues. (Also connects right to my garmin 2589 and allows all functions including traffic reports)
I just assumed it was something bugging with the radio in my mazda since its always seemed a little weird with bluetooth

Tried this but the codec keeps reverting to system default. The AVRCP version however will stay on 1.3. Still waiting for the November security patch with hopes that it will cure this all.

Hello team,
I have seen similer problems with one of my Pixel 2's when using a simple Bluetooth device which may suggest that this goes beyond just vehicles. I tried turning on and off both the phone and device and ended up having to delete the connection profile and starting over.
The device would only partially handshake during the connection process and then hang which appears to be what's happening with the vehicle systems.
I thought I'd should mention this here as an FYI.

This is similar to what I see, both with my new Pixel2 and also my previous OnePlus3 on my Mazda 3. Phone will pair, but after a few seconds (or sometimes minutes) disconnect. Usually it will try to reconnect, and then be fine until the next time I use my car. Both phones behave identically, so it seems to be more a problem with vehicle systems that some phones (none I've owned unfortunately!) are more forgiving of.
Anyone know of a fix for this? I'm using uconnect and same issue, however my maps navigation does play over Bluetooth. Sometimes it seems to disconnect or mute after songs change, and the metadata issue is there. Super annoying that we go backwards in technology. My HTC M9 does this stuff flawlessly.
So I did the developer preview thing and set it back to 1.3 which helps the metadata issue. However, the music still pauses every once in a while, mostly between songs. I have to click to my AM/FM radio and back to bluetooth to fix that.
Well, it's always the same circle. There's a new device with a brand new Android version. Of course buggy a.f. They fix it over the time. The device works perfect. And then... a new major upgrade, which is buggy again.
7.1.2 worked perfect on my Pixel. Then came 8.0.
Bluetooth was messed up again. Now i use the Pixel 2, which is a great phone. But still has the complete bandwidth of bugs that were present in 8.0 on the Pixel 1.
Nice to have monthly patches. But instead of fixing so called security issues, they should focus on functionality bug fixes instead. Who has had a major security issue with hs phone at all, yet??
Google is like: "Fix: Someone could attack your phone using a backdoor in your bluetooth driver."
WTF?!
I can't even use my bluetooth to listen to audio correctly! Fix that first!
Long story short:
Yes, I have the same issue with meta-data in my car audio (Pioneer AVH-X2800BT). Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
Just got November security patch which is supposed to include Bluetooth fixes but hasn't changed anything.

Haven't had to use BT (didn't drive the last 2 days) since the update but before that I had no issues with it linking to my wife's CX9 or my ancient 3-series. Calls work just fine and track information shows up accurate on the CX9.

Question Strange Bluetooth issue

I use a bovee Bluetooth dongle to listen to music while I drive. When I'm playing music it's like someone hits mute for a split second and this happens every 10 seconds or so. I first noticed this behavior on my last phone (OnePlus 8pro) but only on custom roms. I'm 100% stock on the pixel 7. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Sounds like a bad Bluetooth connection. Connected to my Nvidia Shield my Bluetooth headphones do that sometimes. I just forget the pairing and restart both, re-pair, and it usually works.
Have you reset your radio/bluetooth yet?
My wife had a similar issue, not quite as bad as yours, but frustrating, which got better, after a BT reset, but not 100%.
When she moved to a new phone recently, I suggested I install apps/accounts, and let her fresh configure it from there, so basically almost a full-reset. That solved the whole issue, to date (going on 2+ months now). I suspect there were a few "iffy" apps along the way too, so who knows what all got fixed, through that process...

If I select both, it plays normally. I might have to do with your device not connecting using full Bluetooth functionality.

Thanks.

This I believe is the issue when it comes to other equipment and not the phones
