Vivo Nex third party launchers central topic - Vivo Nex Questions & Answers

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding lately about the Vivo Nex and the possibility to use a third party launcher on this phone.
Currently it's not possible, except when you have a Chinese phone number to create an Vivo account.
I'm just wondering for myself (interested in buying it) how can we users still unlock this phone. Maybe a central topic with tips would be a good idea for this community.

Got mine this afternoon,spent very little time w/it,just enough to get Google installed:
You can use Nova,but,you can't make it the default launcher,I tried in the settings,it will not allow for the stock launcher to be replaced,relegated to non-default status,w/o logging in to a Vivo account.
Until that is bypassed,or,you create a Vivo account,it's easy enough to place a shortcut to Nova wherever you want on the Vivo desktop & it'll take you to Nova desktop.
It's one extra step/tap vs a normal default launcher selection,but,not as big a deal as it's being made out to be..................
EDIT:
@Achillias
I was able to get another launcher to stick as the default,using a "Public" VIVO Account,provided by VIVO Support:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76958313&postcount=42

Just a heads-up, I bought my Nex in Shenzhen a few days back. Didn't fiddle around with it much yet either but what I do know now is that having a Vivo account (used a friend's Chinese cellphone number) does not let you fully use 3rd party launchers.
Downloaded Nova from Google Play Store, ADW from VIVO's own App Store and BB Launcher just to experiment. As soon as you set another launcher as default in settings menu (Settings - More Settings - Apps - Default App Settings) it will warn you it may destabilize your phone to switch launcher. You can however still confirm.
Press the navigation bar Home soft key however, and you're back in VIVO's own FuntouchOS launcher and in default settings menu reset it to FuntouchOS aswell.
To me placing a link on the home screen to another launcher is not a solution or suitable workaround. I simply press 'home' too often.
So unless there is some other Vivo account I haven't figured out yet given all the lack of possibility to change from Chinese to anything else in the Vivo app store, this is not the solution.
Love to hear anyone's thoughts and ideas on the matter!

One other thing regarding 3rd party apps, App stores:
I was able to side-load Amazon app store, but, couldn't install any apps from it, getting the same roadblock (need a VIVO account).
EDIT:
@monoke @ibreukers
The Amazon App Store works as usual,once you get a VIVO account set-up:

Had a feeling this Vivo account nonsense would be restrictive for certain apps as well besides launchers. What other side loaded apks from the Web has anybody tried? Any issues with those?
This is pretty much an oversized Chinese iphone if they restrict those too.

Yeah, I try out a lot of phones & this is my 2nd consecutive one w/o Google natively installed, the other being the Xiaomi Black Shark.
However, I had no issues installing apps from any source with that one.
This will be the last such phone for a while, I've had my fill with the nonsense already.
Great hardware,BUT the software & U/I is atrocious, reminiscent of COLOR O/S from back in the OPPO FIND 7 days.....
Perhaps things will be better once I get a Chinese SIM & unlock some of these permissions, but, until then, I recommend anyone considering this phone to hang on to your money until more is known in regards to working around the 3rd party app restrictions.
EDIT:
Getting a VIVO Account set up w/a Chinese phone number,or,a public Vivo Account (contact VIVO Support) will allow for default launcher to be changed & more ease of apps to be installed outside of the Vivo store:

Jesus what a mess

My mistake!! I wasn't paying enough attention obviously and I succeeded in installing a 3rd party launcher (Nova)!
So here's the order of things that in the end worked for me:
1. Set up Vivo account (no way around that I'm afraid)
2. Settings - More Settings - Applications - Set default apps - Home Screen and then set the launcher of choice and confirm
Then the settings I failed to locate before
3. Go back to Settings - More Settings and select Security and under menu item Device Management select in both 'Device manager' aswell as 'Replace the System Launcher' the launcher of your choice and confirm.
4. Once that is set and confirmed you are back in the Settings - More Settings menu and from there on out I longpressed the On-Off button and rebooted.
Voilà ! All good to go and ready to make full use of this awesome phone!

Yes that's correct ?

Found a work-around to get apps from the Amazon App Store to install:
1) Download the Amazon App Store App with Chrome.
2) Set up/sign in to the Amazon App Store.
3) From another device, also log in to the Amazon App Store, download the apps you want to use on the NEX.
4) On the 2nd device, use an APK Extractor app & upload to Google Drive, then, open the Google Drive app on the NEX, d/l from Google Drive
PROFIT!
EDIT:
Side-loading Google Dialer crashes the Funtouch O/S Launcher,stuck on the lockscreen,until you swipe-up to access settings & uninstall Google Dialer.
EDIT #2 :
@paatha13 @ibreukers
Once you are able to change the default launcher to anything but the stock FunTouch Launcher,the (system) launcher crashing is moot,3rd party launchers are unaffected by installing the Google Dialer.
However,there is no setting (AFAICT) to change the default dialer app,so,at least for now,incoming calls will go to the stock dialer,but,outgoing calls,the Google Dialer works just fine.

THIS!! :good:
I managed to do the same in mine and it works. When in step 3. "replace the system launcher", after login in into VIVO account uncheck "tap the home button to lock the system home screen" and it's good to go! Thanks man

I just contacted Vivo on Facebook and they gave me a account,it took a few tries but it worked and I'm using Nova and it's fantastic

Can you please be more specific ?
What exactry did you ask for ?
Something like this
"hey i've recently purchaced a Vivo Nex S phone can you provide me an account to activate so replace stock launcher with third one"
And how exactly activate the Vivo account?
Did you provide them your full name,address and telephone number.
Since activating requires chinece number how did you do the activation.
Give same details to clarify the situasion.
Edit: Just ask them too and i'm waiting their response.

Welcome to FunTouch OS.
Well as i understand it's even more complicated and worst user experience than my familiar MIUI that also had many glitches but always found some kind of workaround to resolve many issue but Vivo own skin seems worst.

Well who would imagine we would get to the point of contacting OEM manufacture to simple asking their permision to raplace stock launcher with third one:laugh::laugh:
Well done Vivo you really know how surprising people all around the world:cyclops:

I just asked them if I could create a account through them since I'm in the US and don't have a CN #,and they gave me a "public" account to log in to they mainly just said don't save anything to the vivo cloud,or change anything. Which I thought was cool of them

Regarding setting up a VIVO Account,did you use a pre-paid SIM & if so,was it voice & data/voice only/data only?
If you did use a pre-paid SIM,could you list which one you bought & where you purchased it from?
I don't mind too much having to take this step & getting a SIM/China phone number,odd as it may be,the price of admission venturing into uncharted waters,I suppose.............
One other thing I'm curious about (just thinking out loud):
I wonder if this registering a VIVO account sticks after a factory reset/bootloader unlock,akin to a SIM Unlock?

Guys it's true Vivo do help you with a public account! I just got one. So it seems that if you contact them and don't screw it up by changing the password you will be able to use this phone at it's full potential.
So the issue actually got fixed by it's self.

How to fully disable Android Device Manager ?

Greetings.
as you know, even if we disable "android device manager" from settings->security->device administrators, it still can be enabled from https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager "enable lock & erase"
from one side it is good, but from other side it is bad - i don't want that my phone can be remotely erased by google
this functionality definitely resides in gmscore.apk
of course, we can just kill all google services, but we loose too much.
so : probably someone from devs here already know answer what to patch in gmscore to disable this behavior ?
with latest gmscore update ( 6.1.74 (1511752-038) ) the only message i can see, when pushing "enable lock and erase" :
GCM message com.google.android.gms 0:1414056810224892%136ddda63e77bab2

I can't seem to find that service, heck I can't even find gmscore.apk
When I use find / -name gmscore.apk in terminal nothing came up.
Running 4.4.2 on galaxy S5, google framework 4.4.2-940549
Any ideas?
I would really not want my device wiped If my google account was compromised (really only have it for android)
as i remember, this service because build into gmscore from 4.4.4 and enabling downloading some external application.
can be wrong, though.
damn it google!
This is really frustrating. I can't find a way to disable it and I can't find 'com.google.android.gms.mdm.services.GcmReceiverService'.
This a serious security flaw, let me explain why.... I have a company account on my phone, just for the purpose of receiving gmail, and that's very important to me. This also means this account can access my phone through android device manager. So, anyone that can log in to firm's gmail can lock and erase my phone and there's no way to disable it. Best I could do was turn off location reporting and hide my phone from showing in device list. However, anyone that can log in to this account, can also change this in settings and unhide it, enable lock and erase, make it ring and.... well, lock and erase it.
This is very worrying when you have a lot of people with access to gmail account that you also have on your phone. ATM only solution I see is to remove account on my phone and search for other email app.
Anyone knows how one could deal with this and still use gmail app?

Instead of a problem with ADM, this sounds like a massive security issue on your company's side. I don't know why your company need to share the same email account, but the more people who have access, the more likely someone will spill the beans. If I am you, getting my phone wiped will the least of my worries.

This dosent appear to be working, as after I disable all the above services, clicked on "enable lock and erase" from my google account it reactivated said services. So which service is activating and overriding the services I disabled?
Im running Android 4.4.2(goldeneye rom, Googymax kernal) on a Samsung i9505, I use Xprivacy, Android firewall, and Appmaster(app uninstaller & autostart manager)
Trying to secure an oem samsung Rom from google and its services while still using all the factory apps is going to be like herding cats...
It's similar to going to the pool and expecting to swim but not getting wet.
If you use Google apps and use the accounts feature of Android then you are going to have Google play services and other Google services running, and sadly you can stop them all you want they update and restart themselves regularly.
You just can't get away from Google, if you still use Google play, the Google mail app, Google voice search, Google account verifier, Google download manager, Google hangouts, Google plus or the host of other Google services and apps that a baked into your rom.
All you will do in find yourself with a lot of force closes from apps, and less hair more cats.
What @Cyclu said was the right way. there are several services and receivers that have "mdm" , probably what you could do is use the search function in the app while viewing the services for GooglePlayServices. at the top of the screen, click menu, toggle full, (full/short option) then tap the magnifying glass, then the search box and type "mdm" , then do the same thing under the receivers section
This is so annoying. Can you imagine disabling admin on the phone, knowing that after reading the description in that area of the settings that it cannot be used to wipe the phone? Then someone testing it to prove it and they click "Enable" and wipe the phone? Know how dangerous that is? My phone is an S5 mini, stock firmware and rooted with SuperSU. What can I do to just prevent admin mode being enabled? I want to be able to track my phone's location but I do NOT want my phone able to be remotely wiped by anyone including myself, remotely.
I tried all. Looks like there is no way to disable ADM. Even if u disable corresponding service for ADM still when u restart that service gets re-enables it self again. Had any got a solution to disable this crappy android device manager fully?? thx in advance.
Forgive me, but this thread is just pathetic. If you have Gapps, your device is not yours. It is Google's. Period. If you can't live without hangouts and similar garbage, then enjoy them, but stop *****ing about remote wipe. You can't be half-pregnant. By the way, remote wipe is not the worse thing that could happen to you. Anything could be silently installed on "your" phone, even if you somehow disable ADM. It could be done through Google play and google services framework. Not to mention thar google analytics record everything about your activities and gsf regularly reports the same "home" i.e Google.
To gmail at work guy: if you can't use another client to access your work gmail, get a separate feature phone.

Android, unlike Gapps, is open source. So, you can get under the hood and clean lots of things.

If you want to only restore certain new apps, deleting old apps in your app list is one way, another is you manual stop google auto restore after you click i agree and next (via play store, my apps, stop) then in the "ALL" tab, you can touch hold and make selection of which app you want to restore then click install (like how you select multiple photos in gallery). hope that helps
I'll answer the 1st question:
After the 2yr 50gb Dropbox promo, your account goes back to the size it was before the promo.
For ie, I had 10gb before the promo, it went back down to 10GB after the promo expired.
If the Dropbox account was new before the promo, I believe new accounts start out with 5GB.
2nd Question:
When you first login to your GMail account on your new Android phone, Google play will auto update all your apps.
Just click "Stop all" and manually install the apps you need.
To stop apps to auto update itself, go to Google play settings and disable "Auto-update" but enable "Notifications about update to apps or games that I downloaded" so that you have the choice of updating your apps or not.

I never went beyond my original 10GB limit, and so I don't know what happens to the extra data after the promo ends.
But I did get a fair enough amount of reminders from Dropbox that my 50GB promo was ending soon. Dropbox even gave me special discounted prices for their upgraded accounts

Go to the edge panel settings.
Choose Express Me.
There are a few default panels such as the diamond animation or the "My Galaxy Note Edge" panel.
Or, you can even customize your own.

But I did get a fair enough amount of reminders from Dropbox that my 50GB promo was ending soon. Dropbox even gave me special discounted prices for their upgraded accounts

There are a few default panels such as the diamond animation or the "My Galaxy Note Edge" panel.
Or, you can even customize your own.

that is what I am looking for
or am I missing something ?
Easy
- On the bottom of the edge panel slide up to reveal the settings option which you want to select.
- Now select the Express me option and once there just select the edit button on the bottom of the current panel in use.
- From here just change the image to what you want.
- NOW to get the scroll feature select the effect option the select glass.
If you're looking for some nice images i definitely suggest downloading EVERYTHING EDGE from the Galaxy app store.

[GUIDE] [NO ROOT]: Activate FULL Google Assistant!

*****UPDATE APRIL 5, 2018 - This guide will activate the FULL Google Assistant!***** USE THIS GOOGLE APP AS OF DECEMBER 8 2018, https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...oogle-app-8-33-6-21-arm-android-apk-download/
Many of you probably recall my last guide on getting 'ok Google' to work. Well Sort of: How to guide: Enable 'ok Google' to work from ANY screen. You may also recall it was a bit of work to get it working and the downside was the modifications didn't hold after a reboot, assuming the system didn't shut the service down first. So I put the project on hold until I could figure it out.
Well it's been 6 months and I am happy to report I have found a permanent solution which will activate the FULL Google Assistant on ANY non-rooted or rooted Amazon device. All we will do today is make a few small edits within the settings of FireOS. The modifications WILL survive reboots!
If you are using Alexa, you will Have to disable it and install the latest version of the Google App located at this link. Make sure to also have Google Play Services installed.
****WARNING: THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION IS VERY POWERFUL. MAKING THE WRONG EDITS CAN RESULT IN A POTENTIAL, UNRECOVERABLE BRICK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICES.****
1. You can download Settings Database Editor, install it and make the edits within that application (not recommended) or you can follow along with me and we'll use ADB. But if you do choose the application, you need to grant it the proper permission. Please plug your tablet into your PC and open an ADB window and type the following line below:
Code:
adb shell pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
2. Open Settings Database Editor. You will see three choices at the top: system, secure and global. Please, ONLY select 'secure'.
3. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see:
Code:
voice_interaction_service
voice_recognition_service
4. Tap on voice_interaction_service. A window will pop up that says 'edit setting'. Delete any text currently in the window if there is any and type the text below into it with NO SPACES:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
OR use ADB:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure voice_interaction_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
5. Tap on voice_recognition_service. A window will pop up that says 'edit setting'. Delete any text currently in the window if there is any and type the text below into it with NO SPACES:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
OR use ADB:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure voice_recognition_service com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voicesearch.serviceapi.GoogleRecognitionService
6. Scroll all the way back to the top of Settings Database Editor. At the very top of the list, tap 'Add new setting'. For the first entry type:
Code:
assistant
and tap 'save changes.' Now type in in the second entry:
Code:
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/com.google.android.voiceinteraction.GsaVoiceInteractionService
and save changes.
7. In the list, locate the setting
Code:
alexa_enabled
and tap on it. Change the number from a 1 to 0 and save changes.
That's it. You should be done! Now reboot your tablet using ADB:
Code:
adb reboot
8. Now it's time to configure your Assistant. Open the Google App. > Tap three lines on bottom right corner > Settings > Voice > 'Ok Google Detection' > Set the preferences to your liking. You will have to train your voice model so make sure you do that first. When done, tap back twice. Make sure your search language is set to English and your search region is The United States. See the next step as to why.
9. Go here and download the Google Assistant APK, install it and open it. You will get a message saying your device isn't compatible with Assistant, but that's ok. Installing the APK will ensure your tablet receives the proper upgrades when Assistant is made available for 5.0 devices.
I hope everyone enjoys this! I am so excited to get this working
Thanks, great job! I can confirm it works great on Fire HD 8 OS 5.6.0.1. I even think the microphone is more responsive with this method. Yes, Google Assistant is somewhat more limited on Lollipop, but it's still useful anyway.
I used the Settings Database Editor app. It's not "scary" if you follow the directions. It makes me wonder what more can be done to this little tablet to make it more "root-like" with Settings Database Editor and ADB.
Thanks!

I'll be making a thread sometime soon on the tweaks I've been able to come up with. For not having root, it's pretty impressive.
Awesome bro.
I'm using fire 8 in India, they have disabled Alexa based on location. If I change my Amazon account location to US, I get Alexa. But, changing back the location to India, disables Alexa again. Alexa option won't be visible in the settings menu.
Do you think, is there anything I can edit in settings app to get Alexa?

That would be awesome, as I couldn't find much other info at all about this app and its uses.
There also seems to be a whole bunch of AOSP settings hidden in the software you obviously can't use, such as mobile networks, GPS, and the LED notification light.
Tweaks I have done so far:
Toggle either full or partial immersive mode in certain apps
Remove lockscreen ads (doesn't work in 5.6)
Nothing else I tried yet I couldn't already do in the regular settings app.

This worked for me but some functionality is missing. If I say "Okay Google, set a timer for [x] minutes." It will just do a Google search for those words. It doesn't automatically open up the Clock app and start the timer. This is with the default Clock app disabled and the Google Clocl app installed.

In the past few weeks I learned that unless the app is actually uninstalled, the system still recognizes it as an app. THis will be as close to the assistant as we get, until it's rolled out to all of Lollipop devices. Also, without Gapps being part of /system/priv-app, a lot of the functionality won't be possible. However, I do see to recall the voice assistant working for the alarm, or basic system functions. It could be possible, that Google stopped that function to lollipop devices or it's just simply mucked by one, or Amazon patched it as well.
Assistant now fully working
Been checking daily whether launching the assistant shortcut would work. Yesterday night it went from assistant not available on this device to Google assistant is not your chosen assistant. After following this guide and rebooting now I have full Google assistant with home control etc!

Yup, the full assistant experience. I have google's clock, play music, spotify installed, works with all of them just like on normal 6.0+
Bet they're enabling server side for all tablets now 5.1+ and above, even though the page still says 6.0+ on google's site. Wake word seems to work with screen on but not off. Still so much better than alexa. You also lose the long press home to activate, tried using a nav button app on xposed but that ended up breaking the framework and I almost couldn't use the tablet.

There are a few edits in the framework that fix that and allow for the home button to long press to the Installed assistant app. I forget where though. When I get home I'll look through my notes and find it once I set this up again. With root it's a fairly easy fix.

Confirmed. Appears the FULL assistant is now available using my original methods. However it requires only the first 2 ADB commands to get everything working. This also works on Fire Launcher which makes this even more glorious.
I haven't had luck with this for the 8" HD as far as the full functionality goes. Now that Alexa works hands-free for it, I don't see it as a big deal but it works great for the 10", though

Tested it in HD 8 and worked perfectly. Haven't tried it on my HD 10 yet.
Side note: I've tried this on other 5.1 devices, not from Amazon, and it doesn't work. So this is likely a fluke from and update to the Google app. The other suggestion would be to try the beta APK. I started on a fresh FireOS 5.4.0.0 and downloaded play services and Google beta APK. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. None the less, get it while you can if you can

To use ADB, you MUST have USB debugging enabled in developer options.
If you're using Windows, make sure you use Command Prompt (cmd.exe) instead of PowerShell.
Open a command prompt window in the location of the Platform Tools. Type in "ADB shell" first, then wait for it to connect. You may need to allow debugging from your computer on your tablet from a pop-up dialog. Then type in the rest of the command starting at "pm grant" after [email protected][device codename].

COMPLETELY 'GOOGLE-IZE' YOUR AMAZON FIRE TAB (Confirmed Working)

Hello there folks, my name is James Hamilton, and I am from Trinidad and Tobago. I have been the owner of an Amazon Fire Tab HD8 (5th Generation) for the past year and a half, and many times I used to be pissed off with the fact that my 'Tablet' did have the Google Play Store, and apps like Facebook and Twitter never updated to the most recent one because of Amazon's backward behavior.
It wasn't until I stumbled across a video on YouTube that allows you to operate your Fire without the use of an Amazon account. Not only did this save you from the restrictions of having to go to Amazon's Appstore, but it disabled the ads on your lock screen too! So, with these experimental hands of mine, a wild imagination and much tinkering around, I managed to get my Amazon Fire Tab to look and act like a normal Android Tablet, and if I haven't bored you with this (somewhat) lengthy introduction, I'd like to show you how to do the same with yours.
Now, I am a nice person, and I would have liked to post links with these little goodies, but seeing that I am new to the page, I can't post external links... SMH!
DISCLAIMER:
I have tried this on my own, and it did work. If, however, you manage to corrupt your device, or something happens, causing it to go loco, I will not be held responsible for any damages caused.
Now that that's out of the way, let's 'Google-ize' your Amazon Fire Tablet.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED.
. Of course, your fully charged Amazon Fire Tab. (Could be any one from any generation...)
. A back up copy of your data on your Fire tab. (You will need this!)
. A fully functional WiFi network.
. Google Installer (apk file) on your memory card. This will download and install the latest version of Google Apps for your device.
Get it here...
---- You can also use RootJunky's Supertool to install the Google Play Store, but I will be using the Google Installer.
. Launcher Hijack (apk file) on your memory card.
. Google Now Launcher (apk file). This is optional, in the sense that you can download it from the Google Play Store after. Your choice!
Get it here...
Now let's do this!
STEP 1: FACTORY RESET YOUR FIRE TAB.
You can either do a hard or a soft reset on your tab. The following video gives a full demonstration on how to successfully reset your tab...
This is also the reason why a back up of your data is required, because, by doing this, you will be kissing your personal accounts and data... GOODBYE!!!
Note: Your Fire Tab will take a pretty long while before it starts back up, so please, be patient with this!
STEP 2: LOG INTO THE TAB WITHOUT AN AMAZON ACCOUNT.
By doing this, you'll be disabling system offers and killing (most of) Amazon's functionality on this tablet to the core. This here requires special attention and detail. You may have to go into a wifi network, and come back out to get that 'NOT NOW' option, but whatever you do, DO NOT SIGN INTO A WIFI NETWORK, or else you may have to start over from step 1. The following YouTube video gives a demo on how to do this successfully.
STEP 3: SET YOUR FIRE TO INSTALL REQUIRED APPS.
Go to 'Settings', then into 'Security'. Tap on the 'Apps from Unknown Sources' option, tap OK on the pop-up window, and you're all set to install exterior apps.
STEP 4: INSTALLING GOOGLE APPS.
NOW, you can sign into your WiFi Network... (You know you wanted to... lol)
Using the Silk Browser, download the ES File Explorer .apk file, and install it as soon as it is downloaded. If you don't install it immediately after it's downloaded, it'll be impossible to find it, and you may have to do it again, so, let's do it correctly the first time.
After installing the ES File Explorer, at this point, you have many options. You can use the above step to install the Google installer, or you can use the ES File explorer to install it if you had it pre-downloaded to your memory card.
After you installed Google Installer, run it, tap on 'Install', and it will download and install the latest versions of Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Google Account Manager, Google Play Service, and the Google Calendar Synchronization Service.
If you prefer to use RootJunky's Supertool, a PC and a data cable will be required to follow this option though....
STEP 5: MAKING GOOGLE NOW YOUR DEFAULT LAUNCHER
Using your available options now (Silk Browser or ES File Explorer), you can use either options to install Launcher Hijack. This will override the Fire Launcher, and give you the many available options of customizing the home screen of your Fire.
After installing Launcher Hijack, it's best to install Google Now Launcher. Now you have 3 options in which to install this. Via a browser of your choice (Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Silk, because the Play Store should be installed and running by now), via ES File explorer if you have it pre-downloaded on your memory card, or via the Google Play Store, which, of course, is the easier option.
Open Launcher Hijack, and if Google doesn't show up, click on the three descending dots on the top right hand corner, and select 'Launchers Only.' If it still doesn't, disselect 'Hide System Apps'. It should show up now. When it does, a pop up will appear. Select OK. Next, Go to Settings, go to Accessability, scroll all the way down and tap on 'To detect home button press,' and tap on the switch to turn it on. Now, tap on the home screen, and there you have it, your new Amazon Fire 'Android' Tablet.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
-You can use any launcher you want, but I prefer the Google Now Launcher because of the ability to install widgets without problems, the file size, and the real stock Android look.
- You may want to install other apps from Google like Gmail, YouTube, Google+, Drive, Photos, Chrome, Contacts, etc. to get a better android user experience.
- All of Amazon's apps will still be there..., TRY TO AVOID THEM! They're the bloatware now! lol
I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, feel free to comment a question, and I will answer. It may not be immediately, but I will answer.
God bless y'all!

I have a Fire HD 8 and one thing I just can't seem to get working are app notifications...push notifications from apps won't show up no matter what settings I try to do. Permission settings are all set so that apps are allowed to show notifications, but no dice. I even did a factory reset and followed your instructions as above to 'Google-ize' it, but no go. Any ideas?

[GUIDE] VIVO NEX S/A Apps Safe To Uninstall/Disable Without Root

The subject of app/bloatware removal/disabling has been mentioned in a few threads throughout the NEX forum,but,not much to mention as far as advancing the discussion,so,I thought I'd start a thread to centralize the topic.
As w/any mods go,this is one that's fairly harmless,worse case scenario,a factory reset will get you back on track,but,ultimately everyone is responsible for their own phone & what happens to it.
With that out of the way..............
1) Any app that can be easily uninstalled by the "uninstall" button is 100% safe,no harm whatsoever. If you want,d/l an apk extractor tool app to make a copy & store wherever,should you change your mind.
2) Now,most are interested in getting rid of as many of the VIVO system apps as possible w/o crippling wanted functionality. This will be an evolving list,& gradually adding to it,with input from anyone interested,I'll update the list right here.
3) OK,the How-To is right here: https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
4) Now here's what I have so far (see below,I'll edit/add as needed)
Any input regarding adding to the list is encouraged,please only suggest bloatware that you have actually uninstalled yourself & please include any effects on functionality that may have resulted,especially if it affected other apps & their functionality. (question marks below [??/etc...] are in place of Chinese letters/characters)
5) Once again,tried & tested input is highly encouraged & welcome. The list will grow & evolve/be edited on a continuous basis until we all get it figured out. :good:
******** A factory reset will restore all uninstalled apps
******** OTA's shouldn't be affected or affect the status of apps,whether they're installed or uninstalled (unless,of course,you've deleted something pertaining to updates,which won't be listed below)
******** The dates reflect the time of posting/removal,for ease of troubleshooting,in the event something noteworthy gets broken,it gives a good reference where to begin looking for the problem/solution.

I no longer have this phone,soooooo......
I'm looking for someone to take over the thread as the OP,to manage/edit the OP/List as they see fit.
I've already received pre-approval from the Admin/Moderator staff to make this happen,if anyone is interested,P.M. me.............................

Updated OP with Dates of Removal, to facilitate troubleshooting in the event something of consequence gets broken.
I'm using the latest Windows 10 build where command prompt is replaced with Powershell. Have tried various options on the internet to revert back to command prompt (including going to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and disable the option to use Powershell), but still stuck with Powershell. Any other workarounds ?

I'm also on WIN10 & using Powershell, seems to be working here, been using it on various phones for ADB & Fastboot commands since day one.
Did you get the initial permission request pop-up on your phone?

Resolved, managed to have my NEX detected and successfully uninstalled several packages.
For the following Vivo apps, what are the respective packages i should uninstall?
1) vivo.com
2) GameCenter
3) i Theme

Great post - many thanks. I must have uninstalled something I shouldn't have as the swipe up from the middle to get multitasking no longer works !!
Any ideas ?
I think i will wait to see if we can get and install the global rom before trying to uninstall some chinese app.

Nothing really jumps out from the list in the OP.
1) Are you able to use the nav buttons & get to recents/multi-tasking?
2) Did you uninstall anything that's not on the current list in the OP?
Many thanks for this great thread!
I have received my NEX today and right now am uninstalling stuff. If I get any new to be removed safely I will post here!
Best greetings from Austria!

Thanks for the reply. I made sure that I only uninstalled items that were indicated safe in your post and some from the post by WhySoSeriousJoKer. I certainly have not uninstalled 'com.vivo.upslide' which was flagged as disabling navigation gestures.
All the other gestures work fine, it's only the swipe up from the middle to bring up the open apps !

Yeah, I wouldn't have uninstalled that one either.
For troubleshooting purposes, can you try out using the navigation buttons, see if you can access recents/multitasking?
Also, which software version were/are you on when you lost the multitasking function?
It probably doesn't matter, but, any information for troubleshooting purposes is always a good thing...

You show com.vivo.browser as one of the apps that can be removed. When I send Location Sharing from Google Maps to a contact via messenger, the link opens up using the vivo Browser app. Can this be defaulted to another app before that browser is removed?

Here's the choices of sharing that pop-up,with the apps removed (on 7/7/18) :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
If I tap "Select People",my Google contacts appear & I get a link to direct share & it selects my default texting app (Textra,FWIW).
EDIT: @Saloei
As for if the default can be selected before the VIVO Browser is removed,I don't know,TBH,this is the 1st time I've ever used Location Sharing,LOL.
Can you send yourself a Location Sharing link selecting MESSENGER and then add your phone number as the receiver to see if it'll work with no VIVO BROWSER app installed?

If you're speaking about Facebook Messenger, I don't use Facebook, but I was able to share the link with Textra, my default messaging app. I shared it to myself on the same phone, using both SIM Cards & using the same SIM Card as sender & receiver.
Also sent my location to another phone I have via Textra with no problem whatsoever.
Perhaps someone here who has already deleted the VIVO Browser & uses Facebook can verify it'll work.
My guess is that it will, but, I can understand if you're hesitant, most don't want to have to start over via factory reset if, in the unlikelyhood, it doesn't work.....
