how is vivo's history with software support? - Vivo Nex Questions & Answers

How's software support from the company itself? Will we get software update for security patches at least for the next 2 years?
Is their OS smooth?

I have an old Vivo V3 and still got updates of even 16mb. And the OS still feels like it is new, no lags or issues yet.

This is my 1st experience with VIVO, i bought the Nex 3 and I'm so happy witht the device.
My concern is the limited information available about this brand on the internet, hence i appreciate if VIVO users can respond about the same

What is Alcatel's Android Update History?

I just pre-ordered the phone and I'm curious what the long term support is going to be like. I did some googling and didn't really find any solid evidence that they will support the phone after release.
Has anyone owned their products in the past and received major Android upgrades?
They are not up to par with Motorola or anything, but I googled and was able to find an old link explaining how to upgrade to ICS for a prior phone:
http://www.alcatelonetouch.com/global-en/support/faq/ot-995ics-fota.html
Hopefully since this is their flagship phone, there are some developers that will work on bringing updates to the phone
Edit:
Also found confirmation of updates from the SVP of US branch an hour or two ago: http://androidandme.com/2015/05/new...l-3-launch-updates-and-giveaway-announcement/
We’re committed to ensuring that we always have the very best user experience possible and plan to have Idol 3 software updates available to consumers via over-the-air updates. Timing on these updates will be on a rolling basis as needed.

Do you know if, usually, with Alcatel on xda, we may have, at least, a rooted device + a custom recovery to make backups...?
That's what I'd like to know before I purchase one.

does the HTC U11 plus receive updates?

Hi I understand that the HTC U11 plus has treble support which is supposed to help it with updates and security updates, do owners of the handset see it is being updated monthly like the Nokia phones or that its security updates stuck without any support?
Thank you
Still on December 2017 for security update..
There was an update about 2 weeks ago, however the notification bug still isn't resolved.

I wonder Wasn't the treble support meant to facilitate the process of updating the phone? If its stuck with the December security patch then what's the point of the partitioning... I think it's shameful for HTC unless there's another way to look at it?

yep, no updates really.
Nokia on the other hand keeps on sending updates with impressive timing - every month there is a security update
ok I had a chat with an HTC representative and he said that HTC releases security patches on a MONTHLY BASIS for the U11+ and the problem could be with UK versions of the phones, he said if people have an IMEI number he can check more relvant information, I don't know if it's something which people share freely but if someone is willing to share with me their IMEI (maybe on private?) I will go back to the representative and bug them for an answer why are there no security updates

mine is still on dec 2017. im really disappointed i dumped my oneplus 5t and bought this device .
Mine as well still Dec 2017. Feels like HTC aready abandoned the device.
Seems like this was the first and last device I bought from them.
It looks like HTC had once again abandoned its loyal users.
Too bad, like you said it will be the last device from HTC for me
Hi thank you everyone. Is anyone willing to contact HTC support and ask them what's going on with the updates? When I tried contacting them I had no device so couldn't get the full help, they claim that they DO update their devices and receive the latest security patches from Google... Maybe its different outside Taiwan?

Several, as in more than one? I've got only one in 3 months and thats with an EU model and in the same country as you.
It would be interesting if you could document "several OTA's".

what is your security patch level - Apr 2018????
I m from Malaysia and still with Dec 2017 patch. I have also send to HTC requesting to release latest update as soon as possible, unfortunately they respond with the guide how to update and the guide to use sync manager. I guess HTC Support just trying to push me away with the guides. I have the impression that HTC Support thinks that all users are none technical and doesn't know how to use their phone. The impression i am getting is no updates coming soon for HTC.
Two times but can see that security patch level still are Desember 17
Htc is doing everything to get us away from them in the future.....and I thougt LG has a poor support...
Poslano z mojega HTC U11 plus z uporabo Tapatalk
Nothing to do with EU or HK variant of the phone , it's HTC being poor with updates. Last time I contacted support they said the latest update would fix the notification bug.. It didn't!
In the UK I read a news article about how poor HTC were with security updates, think they were one of the worst companies for failing to update.
I've had HTC phones for 12 years, brand loyalty if you will, however this will be the last. HTC market their phones as premium, they even charge premium prices yet the support is some of the worst and it's not getting any better.

I hope HTC doesn't ditch the device as U12 is coming soon. I bought this with the hope that HTC will at least send security updates. I have the phone bought in India, made in Taiwan, running 1.24.200.4 and still on Dec'17 security patch. Didn't expect this to happen on flagship phone.
Man definitely my last HTC device. I am simply waiting for a better device than this but at the moment nothing is better in my opinion especially with the ugly notch phone designs and pricing. I will be definitely back to a Google device, the longest device I ever owned was the Nexus 6p and that's because of the developer support and system updates.
One more thing, I will never own an lcd screen device, I have a light bleed which is pissing me off and can't unsee with every boot of the device. My model is a HK model and I am not staying there so I can't send it for maintenance. By the way I am still on December security update which is a bummer, this device has potential but HTC is screwing up our experience with it. How do they expect future buyers to buy their devices if they can't listen or satisfy their current ones?
Contacted support to ask about the lack of updates. Here is their full reply (translated to English of course):
As soon as an update becomes available, the device will load it. Users cannot update the device manually. Please be patient.
That's it.
I guess that also answers whether they will ditch the device with the U12...

Thanks for the update, when I got this device I expected the lack of updates so I am not that shocked, I don't care that much for security updates but I do for major updates like Android P and after, I think I will hold on until Android P and then "Hasta la vista baby" ?
I got maybe 3 or 4updates since Jan 2018. These are enhancements but no one here knows I think what's inside. No change log was given in updates. Security wise - we are still on December and 8.0.
HTC were never famous for speedy updates. They tried and failed. On the other hand, U11+ is not a flagship. It's 11 and a half product and as such it does not seem to have a lot of attention from HTC. You will be better waiting for U12 if you want HTC...

Asus and Zenfone 6 commitment to future Android versions

I've read online that the Zenfone 6 will get Android Q and R. Can anyone point me at anything official from Asus to verify this?

Watch the announcement event on YouTube. Should be in there. However it's not uncommon for promises of updates to be broken. Just saying since you seem to be looking for some kind of official confirmation instead of all the media coverage relaying what Asus has said on the matter.

Quoting this for emphasis. Manufacturers have been lying about updates for years.
Any manufacturers promise of long-term support needs to be taken with a tablespoon of salt. They make money selling phones.....they get squat for pushing updates to those phones....In a while they'll get bankrupt unless they sell more. Simple market dynamics 101.
Quite frankly...I believe that the version of Android that was built into the phone is usually the best. Maybe not the best version of Android per-se...but the best for the hardware. So many times I read about people who beg for a new version for their phones only to complain later that the update sucks, and is full of bugs. So I can appreciate if they push Q but as for R...welllllll, that may be just a little too much.

That's very true for fat custom skins which deeply changes stock Android look and feel as well as adds new features. Like Samsung' former TouchWiz.
OT: I am using for nearly two years Xiaomi Mi A1 with Android One. It started with Android Nougat 7.1.2, then we were updated to Oreo 8.0, 8.1 and for half an year we have Pie 9. With every Android major version and with every monthly security update the phone is better and better, they steadily eliminate bugs and even add new features which were missing at start (like FM radio app, VoLTE support, etc). I am very happy with it. But despite this there are always users who are not satisfied for example because they have not done their homework about Mi A1 and they say that slim stock Android is worse for them than fat MIUI.

US SHT-W09 (C567) - E-Mail from Huawei Support (Updated July 13th)

I decided to contact Huawei Support to find out what's happening with the MediaPad M5 [US Version - SHT W09 (C567)] upgrade to EMUI 9.0, since it's been perpetually stuck on 8.0.0.196 for many months with seemingly no official way to upgrade. I will say that they do have a very good support team that was quite helpful. Below is the e-mail response that I received.
"This email is to follow-up your inquiry about an update for the MediaPad M5. We would like to draw to your attention that currently, we do not have any information about this update coming to your device. However, please do not be disheartened, we recommend you to stay tuned to our social networks as we will continue publishing relevant information about further updates in there."
Well, many of us users of the SHT W09 (C567)] feel really completely left out by Huawei. I truly hope that I'll see an upgrade to at least EMUI 9.0 for my MediaPad M5, however I may never buy another Huawei device in the future even though they make fantastic devices.
Edited:
I got a further bit of information by contacting Huawei via The Twitters:
"Based on the information you kindly provided us, we could verify that your MediaPad M5 is up to date with the last upgrade available. You can be sure that we are working to provide with the best user experience to our customers. That's why we invite you to stay tuned to our official sites, where you can find more news regarding the next updates for your device model."
Based on that response I'm trying to prepare mentally for not getting an update.
Edited:
I was quite surprised this morning to see an update notification. All it did was bring the M5 up to July's patch level. Still EMUI 8 with 8.0.0.198 so a minor jump. Still not sure why we can't have at minimum EMUI 9.
I have the same issue with my CMR-AL09, stuck also on 8.0.0.196 (C432) ,
never again huawei ,
The odd thing is there are some users who have gotten 9.0. my only guess is the US ban stopped the rollout hopefully now that it's lifted the rollout will ramp back up.

The ban hasn't officially been lifted. Either way, Google had a 3 month licence to continue trading with Huawei until end of August iirc.
I have the CMR-W09 (C567) version and I have not got Pie yet. But I am not really that upset. Yes I would like to have Pie, but I can live without it. I bought this tablet knowing that it would upgrade to Pie at some point. If I get Pie or not it is still better than having a Samsung.
I'm in the market for a one-hand tablet (less than 5" width). Are Huawei tablets in the bad books with Google Android, in a wider USA-China context ? I am in Australia, so there is no official ban (yet) on Huawei products, but Huawei was prevented from bidding for a 5G network.
Mediapad M5 seems top, but I'm likely to settle for an M3 8.0 Lite, if it has reasonable chances of being supported by Google Android.
Huawei largely abandoned the US market when political bullying from Trump forced AT&T and Best Buy to drop plans to sell the Mate 10. That phone ended up being dumped at places like Sears, K-Mart and Walmart at steep discounts. The US model Mate 10 received none of the updates that were pushed to all of the non-US models.
Since the political climate has only gotten much worse since the Mate 10 fiasco Huawei doesn't consider the United States a viable market so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for updates.
If software updates are essential to you then you are probably better off getting one of the new Samsung tablets running Android Pie.
Thanks, I'm less concerned about Android updates. But I don't want to end up with a device which has no access (or limited access) to Google Playstore. For example, I'd like to install Microsoft Office 365 which my employer gives us to read company emails. It works great on my Huawei Mate 9.

I know this is a sore point but I'm looking for a new 8" tablet and i want to upgrade from my Z3 compact that has been on Android 6 for a while. Assuming the US Wifi model never gets updated what do people think about their Mediapad devices? Are you still happy with it? It is still worth getting for a 'high' performing media consumption tablet?

Overall it's a great tablet, no real complaints besides the lack of attention to updates on the US WiFi model.
My 10 just received 8.0.0.198 update in the US. That's a decent sign, my hope it's security update/OS prep for the move to 9.0 or 9.1.

I got that update today as well but that only adds up to two updates I have received since this tablet was launched. After Huawei abandoned the US Mate 10P it only received some security patch updates which Huawei support told me actually came from Google. It never received any OS bug fixes or feature updates from Huawei. According to the changelog there's nothing in this update other than the July security patch.

I am wondering what you are complaining about. There is a company forced to stop (almost) all of their business in the US. How can they (and why even should they) provide updates / introduce new devices? Probably it's the wrong people you are complaining about ...
Huawei has stated that the tablet would get Android 9 update. I think it's been done in every other region. Despite the government pissing contest, how hard would it be for Huawei to release the update for USA? That is my complaint.
@cburd business is halted in US. full stop. Providing a software update is doing business ... in addition something may go wrong during the update -> they need to provide services / a place where you can complain / ... what would you say if your device is updated but (for what ever reason) doesn't work any longer and there is no support you can contact / you can speak to?

Android 11

I asked support about upgrading plans for Vivo X50 Pro plus but I didn't get far. I can't read Chinese so I contacted Indian support. It was entry level support and I couldn't get any relevant information.
When you try to Google it, you can find one and only answer: Vivo is slow to upgrade the phones and you can expect Android 11 in April 2021.
Anyway, there is a slight indication that it might be different this time. Three Vivo phones have gotten the second beta already. Android 11 is still full of errors right now and the end of the year would be just right to get it. And we have Funtouch 10.5. Fingers crossed.
I'm always available to try the beta.
It's definitely a good sign of better handling of future vivo phone upgrading:

It's coming... With V20 series the stable version of Funtouch 11 becomes fact. Hopefully, we'll see the upgrade before the new year. Vivo promised besides known features better mobile support with two 5g active sim cards: https://www.vivo.com/en/funtouchos
Well the only thing concerns me is the Millions of bloatware and notification delay issue..
Bloatware could be removed or withdrawn for the main user. Not sure what did you mean with notification delay.
Means getting the notifications later and not immediately.. whatsapp, Facebook, messenger etc.
Found the issue it was related to the power options.

Now it seems that we are not receiving only Android 11 soon but it even supposed to come with a shiny brand new operation system Origin OS. It will be close to stock Android with Vivo improvements incorporated. Thus Vivo not only leaves its obsession with IOS typical for all Chinese phones but it plans to create one of the best Android interfaces in the market.
Looking forward to Vivo's November 19 developer conference:
