Ordered a universal one with wall attachment and car attachment and when I connect the USB to microUSB cord the phone doesn't charge. Ordered another stand alone car charger and it, also, doesn't charge. If I attach the USB cord that came with the phone to the wall/car charger it charges fine. Both, specifically said for the "Nexus One". Is it an amp issue? Most microUSB charger in the mall cell phone kiosks won't charge it either. Is it a proprietary microUSB cord that I need or a matter of amps or something?

I ordered 8 USB cords (2/each of 4 different lengths), 2 Car Chargers, and 2 Wall chargers. All work perfectly fine, and I paid under $25. (Wife has a CLIQ, so we got plenty to work for both of us.)
So, I don't know what your issue is... Other than just not going to Monoprice

well I havent ordered from monoprice since customers got slammed with bogus charges... i guess i could give them another try though, but still... kinda weary
Why? I had over $1300 attempted to be spent at Newegg, and my CC company called me and stopped the charges. Got a new CC in the mail the following day. Some random amount at Apple as well. LOL. Fun times.
(Yes, it happened to me. I'm fairly confident it was from the same issue as others..) But, that doesn't stop me from using a company that makes good products, expecially when they just made such a big mistake. Odds are, it won't be happening again for a long while
Either way... Those are risks with online shopping. You just have to make sure that your method of purchase has fail-safes.
I have a CRAP load of mini USB chargers (all HTC stock) and didn't want to buy more. I bought a bunch of Motorola mini to micro adapters off Overstock.com for $2 a piece and couldn't be happier. I also bought the official Google cradle to avoid additional wear and tear on the microUSB port.

I bought a car/home charger from eBay when I had my Motorola Cliq, and my home charger would keep going on/off charging. I later found out that it was the voltage issue, where the charger was giving a maximum of 5 amps and the Motorola Cliq needed 5.1V or something like that.
But most chargers I've bought don't power the Nexus One. What specific voltage or amps should I look for it to have? The two I bought off of eBay specifically said they were for the Nexus One. Neither worked. Sellers are putting any micro SD chargers up for sale assuming they will change the phone. They will not. What technical spec will tell me if it really will charge it?
Could someone post a link to a USB charger that absolutely works? I just bought another one from Best Buy that doesn't charge the Nexus. Made by Rocketfish and is suppose to be universal.

You're charger should be outputting 5V and anywhere from 300mA upwards. There is no max mA limit because the phone will only draw what it needs.
This might sound patronising, and I really dont mean it to, but when you say doesnt charge how do you know?
Do you mean from totally flat it won't turn the phone on and start charging it, or do you mean when the phone is on the battery indicator doesnt show a charging, and the LED doesnt go orange/green?
Or do you mean it never charges to full?
When I plug it in it's as if nothing happens. No light, no thunderbolt symbol on the battery, no screen wake-up, nothing. Nada. Now, the HTC wall charger and usb charger work fine. But if a MicroUSB charger calls itself "universal" it does not mean it will charge the Nexus. The HTC HD2 charger my wife has works fine on the Nexus though.
Hmm strange.
The charge process works like this:
- Charger plugged in causes voltage change on +ve USB line - potential charger detected.
- Phone draws minimal current (50 to 100mA) and tries to negotiate USB power
-- If that suceeds it tries to increase power to 500mA if the USB port supports it. If yes charging starts at 500mA, if not charging starts at 100mA
- If USB negotiation fails, it checks if D+/D- are bridged.
-- If D+/D- are bridged, the phone draws as much current as it can/needs
-- If D+/D- are not bridged, the phone draws a max of 500mA
There's nothing special about the chargers unless they have been wired in some special way for a specific phone. Thats why I'm very surprised these chargers dont work.
I know that if I chop a USB extention cable and cut out D+/D-, my nexus charges at 500mA. I've tried this myself for a totally different purpose. Thats no different to ground and power being wired to a 5v source.
Odd, I have three car USB adaptors and two AC USB adaptors.. All charged the phone, although only the AC charger shipped with the Nexus would do a fast charge, and none of my car chargers would. I found one that was rated 1Ah and soldered the two middle pins, now it works as a fast charger too.
The Motorola P513 car charger (OEM designed for a Droid) gives out 950mA, is super cheap (~$3+shipping), and works great for a fast charge with the Nexus One.

My motorola charger for my old bluetooth (H780?) works fine, as well as the original google charger. I also have a car charger for my old bluetooth as well.
My suggestion, is to only buy name brand chargers?

I bought one of this HTC CC C200, HTC genuine car charger for micro usb.
Problem is ... it does not tightly connect to the car power source (the cigarette lighter). It is very loose, you must push it downward to connect. Even then, it does not connect reliably.
I dont think this is an issue with my cars, I tested on my Peugeot 206 and Toyota Yaris. Both has the same problem like this.

I had an exact charger like this for my Diamond2 and it fitted perfectly. It's not the cars fault. All the sockets in the cars are the same - normalized.

I was thinking to buy the converter from mini to micro. Then, I thought, Ok, new phone ... why not new charger? ... Then read suggestion to buy genuine HTC car charger. It turned out a mistake.

Yea, should work. But You need to be superduper sure about the Amps output of the charger. There are stories on the forums about chargers that are too weak to charge the phone during GPS + GPRS operation. I wonder if they would menage to charge a phone operating just the GPS (non GPRS related turn-by-turn navigation program). Anyway, in case You buy one of these, give us a call if it menages to charge the phone like it should.

I tried to push it and I saw the "HTC" text turned on ... When I loose my hand, it turned off.
As I said, I was thinking this is an issue with my cars (Peugeot 206 station wagon, Toyota Yaris), but both have this loosen issue.
I purchased the HTC CC C200 also and have exactly the same problem. My car is a Peugeot 206. As you say, the charger needs to be pushed quite firmly in, and with mine, the side connectors need to be aligned also. Its okay when I've found the right position, but the slightest touch against the device can easily stop it from charging. I haven't decided yet whether to request a refund/exchange for something else.
Nope no need to manipulate it to keep charging. As soon as I plug it in the HTC light comes on and I can twist the unit and pull on the usb cable when its connected and it keeps charging.
Tried it in both a Mazda 6 and a Holden Commodore and fits snug in both cars.

I see some of you suffer from a loose connections with the cig charger.
The two metal trips on the side of the charger are meant to keep the charger in place. And its a contact point ofcourse. Its a kind of a spring. You can easilly try to use a scewdriver to flex/pull it a little bit more outward. It probably needs a little push like that for it to stick in its place.
I did this once and it worked after 3 minutes of fiddling.

I have the OEM charger and have no problem in my MINI
i got two original htc chargers and had the same problem ( wouldn't stay in charger and would pop out very easy ) i bent the metal clips and was ok .but then the charger wouldn't work .there is a problem with the cable at the mini usb end ( charger was for a diamond ). my problem is that i think they are original but really might be FAKE chargers
any feedback on the output of this charger? i've recently purchased the belkin 1amp usb charger however this is not sufficient to power the phone during heavy use (gps, sat nav, music player etc). can anyone confirm that the official one can?
I have the original charger as well. Just take some care when pushin it in and it works fine.
Can people tell which charger gives enough power to charge the Desire during heavy use (3G data+gps) ? My old one (Genuine HTC Pharos) is supposed to give 1A but my Desire keeps discharging (slowly but surely).
Does anyone have pictures of the internals of the charger for the official Nexus One car dock?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of buying the car dock and hiding the charger out of view. The problem is that where I'm wanting to put it, there is not enough room to install a 12v outlet alone, much less the outlet and the charger, so I'm wanting to hard wire it all, but need to know how much room the internals of the charger are going to take up to see if it will fit where I want to put it.
i ran into a similar problem to you. I ended up not bothering to pull apart the 5v regulator as it appeared to be glued together. unless someone was very determined to get it apart you you not find anybody who has. I ended up buying a cigarette lighter socket and sticking it and the regulator in my fusebox out of the way.
if this isn't an option you can you any standard microusb charger cable as long as it is rated for 1 amp. I'm pretty sure all 1 amp chargers have the signal pin shorted to the power pin to indicate to the device they can pull 1 amp as opposed to 500ma. If you get one that can be taken apart that would work for your project.
Best of luck with your install! I've hardwired 4 different gadgets into my car and love how clean and tidy everything is. just one cable dangling in my car is too much. please post pics if you get it tucked away as you want, i'd love to see how it works out!
Sounds like space is at a premium. Another option is to hard wire in a Belkin USB charger which is heaps smaller. Then just run a USB charge cable from it to the car dock. Check out the harness I made up in the center bottom pic to get an appreciation of how small it is. Downside is the Belkin Micro USB only puts out 1A as compared to 2A from the genuine charger. So the car dock may struggle a bit.

I like your setup, I may do something like that myself, but not for the project at hand, but rather just to have a 1amp USB charger for whatever.
Now as for the original project itself, what I'm wanting to do is mount the car dock in my 98 Chevy Blazer right below the review mirror. My Blazer happens to have the Temp. and millage computer readout right above the review mirror mounted to the headliner. There's plenty of places to hook into a switched 12v line in the housing for the millage readout, but as I stated before, it's not enough to house the entire car charger and/or and 12v socket.
I'd prefer to use the original charger that comes with the dock so as to not starve it of power. I'm hoping it's just a small circuit board with wires running to the various connectors. I guess I'll just have to buy it and check it out myself. I don't want anyone to ruin theirs just to satisfy my curiosity, not that I would expect anyone to do that to begin with.
Has anyone had a positive experience using an aftermarket sync cable or charger? I have bought a few (for other devices) in the past, but several have had issues (flaky touch screen during charging, slow/no charge).

Search Amazon. I have had good experiences buying the cables. My cat seems like them and chews on the cables if I forget to put them away. I don't remember the brand but there is one where the cable casing is a rubber material. I think it's like 2 for 15bucks and they are 6' I think. I've had the best luck with those.
When I tried an aftermarket charger it was for the Prime. It didn't work at all but was also the first aftermarket plug being sold. Over heated and would stop charging a few minutes after plugging it in but continued to heat up. People are giving a few of them 4 star reviews. They may have gotten better now. Other than that it's buy the oem charger. I have not seen an aftermarket usb plug that can deliver the 15v required in these units. If anyone else knows of one I'd probably order one for work.
I bought some off Amazon from a brand/company called "Power +"
They work great, both the car charger and the wall charger. A bit better quality than the factory Asus charger as well.
I was looking into the same myself. I've read many horror stories of aftermarket usb charger/sync cables from Amazon, some seemed to work "great" while down the page I read other users having theirs not fit right/fall apart at the connector.
I could definitely use a longer cable as the stock cable is just too short to use from the socket to the desk, let a lone if I'm under less than ideal places like a lounge/library.

You can extend the cable with a USB 3.0 cable. (2.0 doesn't work).
I have this charger - albeit bought through eBay. I did not experience any problems with the charger itself, but the cable frayed where it meets the strain relief on the power brick after a couple of months. After taping up the connection, I am temporally using it to charge up the dock before I can get an OEM charger, but won't let it touch my Infinity itself.

I also bought a two pack of these. So far, I have not had any problems out of them. I also got the power+ wall charger and it has worked great.
Chargers don't work
I have bought 2 chargers for my TF700 and neither works. When the first one didn't work I thought it was because is was 2000mA so I bought a 2500mA. Is this not a regular USB charger? What is the voltage?

Yeah, exactly, no support for wireless charging. However, Sony has released cases with built-in wireless charging for earlier models of the Z-line
and I was wondering if anyone knew if they are going to release a similar solution for the Z5 Compact.
At the moment it seems as though the only viable option is to install a qi-receiver bought on ebay or a similar site and pair it with a case.
Not so bad i guess, since it probably is a hell of a lot cheaper and you get to choose whichever case you want.
Awaiting my Z5C now and will update when I have installed a qi solution.
That is impossible becouse that cases before have connection over magnetic charger and z5c dont have it.

Tried various adapters and it doesn't draw enough power to charge. It just vibrates and turns the screen on but doesn't say charging.
Maybe you should try "detect the usb device" option

Just wanted to post to say that this is wrong. What it needs to work is a connector has the data pins to be connected so that it shows that it's capable of outputting higher than 500mA. I'm using the Zoer receiver that has that and it works fine. Amperage is between 260mA to 770mA depending on the qi charger that I use.

You just need one with 4 pins instead of the cheaper 2 pin ones. I have one which definitely works. Unfortunately, xdadevelopers doesn't let new users post links for some reason, so I can't help anybody with the link to the one I use. I spent a lot of time working out what to use and finally went into a 'retail store' to test the one I ordered before ordering my own z5 compact. If anybody wants the link to the ebay item, just email at [email protected]. Make sure you choose the 'A type' for the z5 compact. Works a treat. There is a lot of confusion about qi on the z5. Some people are saying that it is because of its waterproof attributes, you can't do it. Not so. This works perfectly and once on, can be used with any QI standard charging mat.
Guy, anyone tried with the quickcharge wireless pad yet? By the way, do we need to have quick charge supported receiver coils in order to use the quick charge charging pad?

I've never seen a quick charger receiver? I gave up on this in favor of quick charging at lunch
For those that have gone down this route a couple of questions please:
1) How has the QI receiver lasted if the phone is submerged? Did it just need rinsing in clean water and drying out or was it screwed?
2) Is there a maximum thickness to the case which I should worry about?
3) What sort of time does it take to charge up?
4) If I'm playing music or video will it charge quicker than I'm draining the battery?

I just got this one:

and it works good with my Xperiy Z5 Compact. It charges with about 600...700 mA, something les than with a normal charger, but absolutely enough for my purpose - modt of the time I just want to recharge over nitght. It goes up to 100 %.
The included power bank feature can also be used via Qi, but probably smarter it to use it with a cable to not waste Your capacity as heat.
By the way: Even NFC works through the receiver!
But still I folded the receiver cable twice to position the receiver on the lower edge of the beackside of the phone. This way I avoid the risk, that NFC sensitivity gets reduced and I can line up the phone better on the charger, because it must lay quite exact on the cross.
i have qi charger for 5c and it works. i order plate fro qi and qi charger from ebay. just this qi sticker must set under some case. another way it is possible to broke it.
