Fubar!!! 360 hours to unlock... Bruno Mars says "what!?!?!?!" - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

Picked up a Mi Mix 2S (had a Mi Mix 2 for about a week), and I wanted to unlock the boot loader like the Mi Mix, and Mi Mix 2.
Mi Mix took 3 - 5 days, after having to go on miui forums to beg to get the sms notification to try to unlock it.
Mi Mix 2 took 72 hours... Yeah, I know, whatever. (had it about two weeks ago, and unlocked it)
Mi Mix 2s that I received yesterday, says after 1st attempt... 360 hours! That's 15 F'in days.
What Da F*** is that?!?!?!?
Is there no workaround? Can you PAY to get it unlocked faster?
This is amateur hour.
Cheers,
LormaD

No way you can only wait

This isn't confirmed by me, however there appears to be some way, users on reddit claim this has worked for them......https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/8kf0ln/fyi_xiaomi_disabled_waiting_time_of_360_hrs/

i feel with you bro… need still wait 16hours… just tried it a couple of times… i'm not sure if its really needed to wait all the time but i didn't tried any tricks at all...
i also read trying to often maybe blocks the account at all...
i thougt that my dumbass unlock tries blocked me for 360hours... i tried a couple of times unlocking but i didn't read correctly where to bind my account in the phone.. i did this a couple of times.. until i realized that i need to enable the dev mode and there bind the mi account…but looks like this is just a protection at all that resellers don't flash fake or custom roms at all...

Tried it.. not working for me.. get the error that the phone is not bound to the account. And when the phone is bound, it's 360 hours. Mickey Mouse stuff Xiaomi.
Thanks though...

I think it's better to have time limit on unlocking than have chinese sellers flashing shady stuff on every unit they sell. You can still unlock eventually, which is nice.

I don't agree with this analogy. It makes no sense. If that is the mongering reason behind this, then one day why not have hours replaced by days... 360 days? C'mon! Let's stop repeating the rhetoric.
Had I have known before, I may have NOT have purchased the Mix 2S. But once you open it and use it, you bought it. It tarnishes a great product. It comes across like a fumbling amateur, who will one day face the North American market and have to overcome much greater obstacles and scrutiny that is not biased from the public eye.
Okay, the Mix was 3 - 5 days to unlock as "people" and Xiaomi navigated the waters. I had to escalate it online to get it to unlock.
The Mix 2 was less new to me, the concept, and to an extreme better laid out (the unlocking process). Even though frustrating, having to wait 72 hours, it was what it was, a long weekend and done with.
The Flagship Mix 2S will take me 360 hours. Is that the standard for everybody? Or is it (like me) you request a 2nd unlocking within 360 hour period, automatically go from a 72 hour wait to 360 wait?!?!! Am I some kind of shady dealer LMFAO!
C'mon Xiaomi, your making Bruno Mars say WHAT?!?!?!!?

Or you just order a factory sealed one, like I did, simple as that.
Most sellers want to sell phones, can't be bothered by installing "shady stuff".
Often the sellers offer to flash a Global Version rom as a service, for the not so technical buyers.
For the technical buyers & if it says Global version, just drop the seller a message you want it sealed.
Moving units asap is the goal, every extra flashing that needs to be done costs time.
........edit.......... 360 hours also waiting for Mi ehrm.. me.. Seems to be general, unlocked lots of Mi before...

My unit WAS Sealed... brand, spanking new, global version. I broken open the seals myself. Just like the Mix 2 (which requested 72hours), the Mix 2S was sealed, it even had more packaging, protective plastic piece in place over the front and rear of the phone than the Mix 2.
Cheers

I just can't bring myself to do it. How are you guys spending 700$ to purchase something you know absolutely nothing about?
I'm confused... Did they retract all the specifications and pictures? ~
Based on the specs and the person at the helm, what else is there to know... It's just like buying the latest flagship from [Insert Phone Maker Here].

The key difference is that we usually have reviews (or at least hastily done hands-on previews) in hand before forking over money for other flagships. Nobody has a review on this yet.
Sure, reviews aren't perfect but they answer a LOT of the questions that we all have about this thing. Face it, Essential's communication has been pretty poor leading up to right now. And specs aren't everything.
Example: If Essential says "Our phone runs Android well and it's buttery smooth", would you trust that as much as if any other reputable reviewer said the same thing?

You're saying every flagship phone is exactly the same. Pick something with an 835 chip and everything else is identical; picture quality, battery life, screen quality, warranty support.... list goes on.
Nobody other than Essential employees know how the camera performs. You're putting a lot of weight into Andy Rubin's name being involved and he really has done nothing to earn that weight, in my opinion.
I'm not getting rid of my Pixel XL just yet. If the Essential sucks (I really don't think it will), it just goes on Swappa, I keep using the XL and wait for the new one to come out. I can honestly say that I haven't been as excited about a phone release as I am about the Essential in a long, long, time. The screen real estate is absolutely beautiful.

They have a 15 day return policy if you buy from Essential in the US. I'm probably gonna buy but only because of the 100% money back (and free return shipping) policy.

15 day return policy
I'm all in. As other's noted, 15-day return policy. If it sucks, it goes back.
Hardware wise I think it will perform, and I think android will operate fine. Just my belief based on who's doing this thing.
My only hesitation before pulling the trigger was how long it will take to have developers putting a rom together that I can abandoned all tings Google. I'm currently on a Nexus 6p with no GApps, running a secured kernel and ROM, FDroid, Amazon, and side loading for apps. I want to get to the same place on this sucker. I'm not developer enough to make my own ROM. Though the idea of building from source seems like a fun challenge.
I think my biggest hesitation is in how they worded the return policy. "Disabling security features" warrants denied return. I wonder if this means the device will be permanently altered by unlocking the bootloader - eg.. Sony with wiping the TA partition permanently degrading photo quality, or Samsung and the knox crap.
Obviously I wouldn't unlock the bootloader in the 15 day return window - but I want to be able to unlock the bootloader at SOME point with the option to put it back to stock without marring the device.
So many questions, so few answers..

He's done nothing? He only co-founded the biggest cellular phone operating system ever. Besides that, also co-founded another couple of million/billion dollar companies. I would put a little weight, maybe more than a little into something he has touched. Just my opinion.

You used Android under his ownership?
And the sub-companies under playground global are not exactly super successful.
I wouldn't say his name brings a whole lot to the table
Bought mine today. Ships within a week w/ 2-3 day Fedex; i'm hoping for delivery by Fri 25th, but i haven't gotten that email yet. No cases for it... hmm. I think they might be taking the durability factor a little far for there to be no cases available at launch. But I for one think Rubin's name brings a lot to the table and will be very surprised if the phone he's essentially (ha) staking his career on is a flop.

Yeah I broke down and confirmed my reserved pre-order. If I hate it, I'll return it. A good 7-10 days of steady use should determine if it's a keeper. I think selling on swappa is not the way to go as I believe initial resale value will be low unless reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Time will tell!

yup. some people may not LIKE that you can't root a phone, but the actual percentage of those that won't actually buy the phone for this reason is minuscule.
otherwise, the first time a phone manufacturer sees their sales actually explode after releasing unlooked bootloaders, they'd always unlock it, but that's simply not the case
Ok I think you're being quite short sighted here, allow me to explain a little.
People who root their phones, usually the same ones who mod and develop ROMs and love a tinker, generally speaking the techie in the family, the one who your family tends to turn to when they have an upgrade come around or need something fixing.
Those very same people are more than likely to recommend a phone which has the ability to root, bootloader unlock and modify than they are one which has a completely locked down eco system.
You can say what you like, you can say I'm full of it, but I've seen how people react to a company changing its principles in regards to bootloader unlocking, HTC did this once, they then reversed their decision after seeing an immediate decline in sales, not solely due to the device either, it was the people's influence which caused it, then after two not so great phones later, they were a struggling company, and make no mistake, HTC was a colossal company which was on the up and up, bare in mind they made a lot of what android is today.
Huawei are making the exact same mistake because they overlooked how important that 1% is and the influence that they have over the vast majority of other users who value their opinion and will commit to a purchase on their say so.
It doesn't matter if you believe me, it's just an observation I've witnessed when HTC made the same decision.
Sure they'll continue, they make other components as well as phones, in all fairness they could stop selling phones and still survive.
But for XDA, for development, for what we know today of Huawei devices? Lol If you think it's quiet here on the p20 pro forum, wait til you see the ghost town of a thread there will be for the p30 and pro, I doubt there will be a single ROM, no Dev would be dumb enough to buy it.

Huawei is targeting the Apple clientele. They couldn‘t care less about bootloader unlocking. Look at their advertising, their USP is design, camera, beautiful visuals. They don‘t sell to the tech nerd who wants to flash different software.

Damn.
You may still be able to do something , there was a guide on the above link posted by a user which can unlock the bootloader by all accounts.
This phone is quite a beast and there could and should be another way in the future.
Plus Huawei will probably reverse their decision, that's not confirmed by any means but I think they will.
Funky Huawei ( which is normally not what I'd recommend) will probably see a lot more action now that official unlocks are gone too.
Don't worry too much, if it's still possible someone will find out.

I'm shocked. I received my phone today and wanted to root it and now I read this.
Maybe you guys can help me understand a few things because I haven't tampered with any Android device since 2014.
- will I be fine with the standard pre-installed EMUI or am I missing some really cool and better custom OS when I can't unlock and root my device?
- I've used Xposed, AFWall+, TWRP and XPrivacy on my old phone - are there similar and equally safe tools for unrooted devices?
- How can I make backups without TWRP?
- are there any known workaround procedures known that would let me unlock the bootloader without that code from Huawei? Is it likely that there will be one?
Thanks

Same question here. I have my Twilight P20 Pro lying here, unused since release in fact (so way past the return window) and meant to give it to my wife, but only with Root Tools (Adaway, YT Vanced etc.)
I missed the window since I was traveling and support won't help me.
I get it, my fault for not doing it in time but what now? I wouldn't mind paying for it, as the only other option appears to be selling the device at a huge loss (I paid full retail) and finding a different phone altogether.

February 2020 Security update where is it?

Did Xiaomi forgot it? What happens?
It's still February and we will get it next week. Keep calm!
Coronavirus happened?
When the device first launched, we used to get updates in the first week of the month, but as the time went by we started getting them by the end of the month. We will get it. But don't keep your hopes up, it'll just be a mere security update and 'bug fixes'. Most probably.

Not to mention, some neighboring provinces in China are also affected with the virus, not just Wuhan.
I really don't think that the virus poses a threat to the development. I'm quite sure that in this day and age, people can work from home or basically from anywhere in the world. It will just be another excuse for Xiaomi's laziness. Hell, Xiaomi India's official Twitter account said that Mi A3 would get the Q update mid-February, but it's February 23rd and they still didn't get one. So, I've stopped expecting anything from Xiaomi, and I've learnt a valuable lesson, never again cheap Chinese smartphones. They come with bloat, slow updates and sh*tty customer support. Cheers.

Same. But Google forces oems to use features as a default. If oem wants to take Android 10 certificate on his new phone Google forces them to use Cam2Api as a default. Google gives me hope in a good way.
More force to the Oems for new features = Better phones
Google knows if they leave the choices to Oems this will cause deep differencies between phones. I am glad they understand that.
For example:
Gcam vs Stock Mi A2 Lite camera. You know the difference. Its like day and night. Same hardware but better results.

Google knows if they leave the choices to Oems this will cause deep differencies between phones. I am glad they understand that.
For example:
Gcam vs Stock Mi A2 Lite camera. You know the difference. Its like day and night. Same hardware but better results.

I didn't know Google forced OEMs to enable Cam2API. Good to know. Let's see what Xiaomi is gonna do about this haha.

One day we will have flying cars, what is your point? This device won't even get Android 11. Your statement is not only irrelevant but also unhelpful in this scenario.

I just predict the future for future phones.
Either wait for Xiaomi or go custom rom... I'll wait until the end of March if they don't provide the upgrade I will

Question S22 Ultra Samsung lock help

Hi, I purchased a Samsung S22U on Facebook a month ago and the phone got locked by Samsung this morning, saying it was "lost in transit or a trade-in device was never received". Samsung doesn't seem to care and won't even look at all the pictures and messenger conversation I have.
I haven't flashed ROMs or rooted a phone in a decade, but I used to be very familiar with it. Will flashing a custom ROM bypass Samsung's lock on the device, or do you know another method to get around this? This has become a very expensive paperweight. Running multiple IMEI checkers, it doesn't seem to be blacklisted.

So exactly how long you bought it until now? As I know, Samsung allows only 15 days from the day when the previous owner received his phone for trade-in program. After 15 days, they will lock it immediately. Here you said a month ago.

I picked up the phone from the guy on June 24th, but didn't activate it until yesterday or the day before. Thought I wanted an Iphone for macro photos, but bought a digital camera instead.

ok, so it's weird because it exactly 1 month from the day you bought it. How much you paid for it?

Yeah, not sure if that's because I waited forever to activate or what. I paid $800, but he had it listed for $900.
You need to contact the person you bought it from. Samsung can't do anything to help you since you didn't buy it from them.

The seller doesn't care, it's meant to be a scam. He's just ignoring my messages. I think I found a way to fix it, but it's going to cost me a little. Seems to be reliable though

Nah, it's a legit business. Hundreds of reviews, thousands of followers, dozens of videos dating eight years back. Can't believe I found it, but it's legit. Talked to the guy on the phone. The real question is: Will the fix last during updates.

So... Phone works great for the most part. Two things can't be done: System updates and using smart switch for data transfer. Otherwise, it is fully functional

If you're still interested, let me know. As said above, you can't do system updates and the smart switch won't work, but otherwise it's fully functional. They are working on the update part, but it's not possible yet

Yeah, sorry. I stopped logging into this forum. I also just bought a new phone since I couldn't risk a random nighttime update causing me to lose stuff. Here is the guy... Tell him I sent you. It won't get you any discount or anything, but maybe he will remember me too eventually haha https://www.facebook.com/MNMobileGuy

Question Tradingshenzhen caution!

Finally Xiaomi 12S Ultra Arrived.
To my surprise I noticed a quite a few fingerprints on the camera. Anyway, maybe it was a pre purchase inspection I tought.
The I noticed some dirt inside the speakers... hmm I this a used phone?
Anyway I proceeded to set it up and see what all the fuss is about with the camera.
Going troughs initial set up steps, I get a message. " This phone was previously factory reset" Please use your Mi account or Gmail account associated with this device to unlock it!!
So basically TRADINGSHENZHEN set an expesive and used piece of worthless brick!
Currently awaiting their reply.. I honestly expected more then this crowed, but really Chinese are just not trustworthy.. Be carefull out there!!

No I didnt. Order a standard CN rom
See the condition. Also it contains a blue screen cover and the outer clear case has been used and greasy
Not normal, surely a phone that has been returned.
And I just powered the phone in fastboot and TWRP is already installed>

Yet this company provides and is well rated, nothing to do with Ali.
Surely a mistake on their part.
Is there even a way to unlock the phone if associated with a different google account?

Don't bother with that, send it back.
Maybe this phone has a problem, if you keep it will be your problem, don't bother.
I had exactly the same thing when I bought the thing in Singapore. But somehow I managed to log into my gmail account and set it up.
There were still issues though, unable to sideload apps. I couldn't take it back as I don't live in singapore though. So I did a new factory reset, and all was good. Got the 'setup your new phone screen' . And all was perfect afterwards. On CN rom.
I guess they login before they sell it to install play store....
Good luck!
if you ordered a version with eu flashed it will have twrp and the rom flashed.
You could ask for a sealed box when purchasing.
but they are usually careful with that.
i've been buying there for ages and never got any issues.

Thats the thing. I specifically ordered for CN version in the check box.
But this phone is 100% used. You can tell by all the dust inside the speaker vents and also the clear case is covered in greasy finger prints and wipe marks.
Still no reply from TradingShenzhen tho..
This company does not reply whatsoever! I will now start a credit card fraud proceedings and I will do a YT video and review them on trust pilot.Over €1000 is not small amount to be taken the piss!
Careful who you buy your phones off
TradingShenzhen responded: engineering error they check all their devices before dispatch.
Advised to do a fastboot FRP removal which erases the google account lock. This did the trick and the phone is now working!
But::!! This phone is a used phone.
Its had its firmware tampered with, despite the fact I ordered a new CN version and to top it off, the phone had already 37 Battery Cycle. This was a cleary used phone!

Im awaiting a reply. Since they have a fairly good reviews Im giving them a benefit of doubt. Generally speaking you only get to know how good of a company they are when they resolve your problems.

Someone tried to cover up a mistake he did by replacing a new one with his.
I wouldn't blame the entire company for this as "chinese are not thrustworthy" :| gotta be an amazing douche to say that.
I know some famous platform in China are selling at a much lower price than from Official Xiaomi. The reason is that they would resell the returned or fake product. Your case is quite common in China and there is a chance that you are not lucky and get a used phone if you buy from those stores online. In China you can always return the product within 7 days with no reason if you buy from those platforms so those phones that are returned might be resell again as a new one if they look new or not activated, or for whatever reason. My recommendation is to buy from Xiaomi authorized stores online in those platform. I got my 12su from JD platform and the price is the same as the one written in Xiaomi official website since it is equivalent to buying from xiaomi.com. I suspect that tradingshenzhen is one of those stores that sell at lower price in china while they sell at a much higher price in internatinal market.
