Flashing Global ROM with locked bootloader? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

I'm trying to install the global ROM with a still locked bootloader (I have to wait 360 hours).
I've found a legitimate looking zip here http://en.miui.com/download-343.html
and tried the following methods:
- Installing using the choose update package in settings, which gives me the error "Can't verify update. Sorry, flashing older version is not allowed."
- Factory reset and then choose update package (as described in http://en.miui.com/a-232.html for downgrading).... same error
- Flashing using Mi PC Suite... doesn't work, won't accept my phone
- Flashing using Chinese Mi PC Suite & recovery mode... also doesn't work, gives ADB errors (I sorta made out what they said using Google Translate)
I haven't tried flashing the ROM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...how-to-buy-unlock-root-twrp-recovery-t3786868 using the mi flash tool (that tool doesn't accept a ROM zip, does it?) because I'm scared I'll brick my device.
I've also tried bypassing the wait time with the 2 mi accounts trick, that didn't work either.
Is there anything else I can do right now? I really don't wanna wait 15 days before being able to fully use the phone.

I had same problem with you weeks ago. After searched lots of solutions, I gave up and waited 360h...
maybe you can try to flash global stable rom with fastboot(it's the only way I didn't tried cuz the rom released after my bootloader unlock)

You have 2 choices...you can wait or you can follow an workaround to bypass the 360 hr waiting time.
If you can bypass the 360 hr, then you can flash, if not, you gonna brick your phone for sure.
For flash an update rom, you need to flash it in TWRP...which you can not install because you'll need an unlocked BL.
If you flash an Fastboot rom, you can use MI Flash tool, but that requires an unlocked BL, and if you flash...you know what gonna happen...
So, it may be good to wait, because MIUI 10 is just around the corner...

New in MI4C

Hello everyone.
I live in Brazil and I bought at the Aliexpress MI4C Xiaomi. I haven't received it yet, but I've already started researching ways to use it with another ROM than the original. The seller sends the device with google apps and multilanguage option. So, he makes some modification in the ROM, and says to not update the ROM officially on Xiaomi servers.
I see a lot of complaints about the Chinese bloatwares in ROM and so I wanted to install one that was good, but nothing with applications in Chinese or unnecessary ones.
My question is: in this case the bootloader is already unlocked?
In the meantime, I sent my request for unlocking bootloader to Xiaomi and received the SMS containing a link. As soon as I get the cellphone I intend to do the procedure. There is a risk of bricking the phone?
I’ll do appreciate good links with how-to and good ROM to daily use.
Thank you.
The seller shipping a modified ROM and telling you not to update the official would suggest your bootloader will not be locked. For now only flashing the latest official China dev builds will lock your bootloader.
Getting pre-approved for unlocking couldn't hurt though I guess.. just in case. You might need to have a working Xiaomi framework in your ROM to register your phone once though. If your ROM does not have the xiaomi services, I would suggest either Xiaomi.eu or sMiUI as a ROM, both are pretty much stock MIUI with some chinese bloat trimmed.
But most likely you will not need to unlock your bootloader anyway. You will need to check your bootloader through adb anyway before doing the steps to flashing a new ROM. You will best be flashing your recovery through adb, the instructions can be found through most ROM pages or simply searching TWRP Mi 4C. The command to check if it's unlocked is
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
A very extensive directory can be found in the INDEX thread, first in this forum.

you cannot check the bootloader locked or not by that way. My phone when checking this, gets the input "bootloader unlocked: false" but I can flash other recovery freely.
in his case, he is using a modified rom, it means his bootloader is not yet unlocked. Right now, if he wants to come back to chinese rom, he should use Mi flash to flash his phone. If he wants other rom like CM13, he should download the latest TWRP and the rom, put the rom into his phone storage. Then try to go to fastboot to flash the recovery, then go to the recovery and flash the rom.

Ah, that might be incorrectly reporting indeed. In any case when trying to flash recovery, if you're locked it'll simply fail and won't be harmful.
But why would you think his bootloader is not unlocked? If he's using a modified rom, it was probably flashed through fastboot or a custom recovery, both require the bootloader to be unlocked.
But even if he was not on a modified rom, stock Mi 4c have always come bootloader unlocked. Someone would have to have gone out of their way to lock the bootloader and I doubt any reseller would do that, they would risk a lot of refunds from angry customers.
I strongly advise against using miflash to flash any official rom unless you have no choice, since then there's a chance you WILL lock your bootloader. For now only dev builds are locking it, but the next stable release might very well too.
The first step should be to flash TWRP
The second step to stay away from Official China build
The third step to keep away from Official China build
The fourth st...
^ sorry my bad.... I was not focused. Actually I mean his bootloader is unlocked .
The safest way is flashing via computer, using mi flash or flash twrp image. You are right
1. Ur phone not lock bootloader
2. U can flash custom recovery...(TWRP)
3. "MUST" Stay away from official MIUI ROM
4. Flash whatever u want...sMiui, CM13, etc,etc
5. Remember Point No.3
***Btw, download official Fastboot ROM and keep it to ur drive, for just in case if u want to sell it again
Hello. Thank you all. I just received my phone. Great, btw. I'll read again and again all instructions and try. Thanks again!

Even as a last resort to getting your phone working if you did something wrong, please don't install the newer official roms, it's the mistake I did this weekend now I have a locked phone with a rom that has force-closes everywhere and absolutely no way back.

The only scenario where you would want to use miflash to flash a chinese rom would be as a last resort to flash the fastboot version of V7.1.6.0.LXKCNCK to restore your phone. Any later version will lock your bootloader.
If you don't care about locking your bootloader and the arduous process of unlocking it, you're easier off just taking all the latest updates OTA via the updater.
Hello everyone. Thanks for the help. In fact my bootloader was unlocked. I flashed twrp 3.0.0.3 and flashed the CM13 teamluminial, Android 6.0.1. Excellent. Thank you.
Hi!
Same scenario here..
I will receive Mi 4c with the Bootloader Unlocked, Rooted and the Multilanguage ROM.
But I have already received from Xiaomi after my request also the number for the official unlock procedure but now I'm a bit confused..
Do I have to unlock the bootloader once and for good with the official way?
Because I've read that the unofficial way isn't so secure in long term.
Do I have to install from the Updater the latest Cina Dev ROM and after that to proceed with the official unlock? Or it is better to use the Fastboot ROM?
Please could some one tell me in any case what to do ?
Thanks !
If you don't flash something that will lock your BL, no need to Unlock.
Ok first I must check the status of the bootloader to be sure that it is unlocked (via cmd control or cpu-z)
And after that can I choose an unofficial weekly miui.eu international ROM and install it?
Can I download and also update every week via Updater this ROM without issues?
At the moment my problem with flashing is that I don't have my pc (the one I have now runs win xp) and I don't want to stuck with the eventually malware or fully spammed modified rom of the reseller..
Which options do I have?

TWRP works perfectly. The backup is simply stored in your internal storage。

Question about Fastboot + Miflash + Unlocked Bootloader using unofficial method!

Hello everyone!
I bought a mi 4c from gearbest which came with a custom\unofficial possibly full bloatware rom, because of this i decided to install the last version of miui for mi 4c from xiaomi.eu! To do this i had to unlock my bootloader, yes my bootloader was looked because before i thought about xiaomi.eu rom, i had installed the lastest stable chinese rom by using the rom updater which i think that it looked the bootloader when i did this. I don't know if the bootloader was looked or not while i had that custom rom on the phone because i did not check it.
So my bootloader was looked and i wanted to install TWR to install the xiaomi.eu rom because of the international support and because of google services and play store which i had tried to install in the chinese stable rom but i had failed miserably to do so! So i want to install TWR but i did not want to wait for the sms with the code to unlock my phone because i had read people complaining that the code takes a long time to arrive and etc! So to solve my problem i used this unofficial way to unlock my bootloader -> http://en.miui.com/thread-247961-1-1.html <- which worked and i got my bootloader unlock, installed TWR and the lasted xiaomi.eu rom for mi 4c
/\ I regret using the unofficial method to unlock my phone, because two days later o got the sms with the code Haste is the enemy of perfection!
But now i want to go back to stable chinese rom because my phone is overheating and throttling a lot and also the GPS works really bad which it did not on the chinese rom!
Now for the doubts:
1 - If i use Fastboot + Miflash to flash the last stable chinese rom, is there the risk of bricking my phone? Because of the way i had unlocked my bootloader i mean?
2 - Is there way to lock the bootloader again, so i can unlock it the right way? I mean using mi unlock and the code that i've received? It will make any difference using the official way in relation to the unofficial way, it will be worth it i mean?
1. only risk is you have a power blackout
2. you can, fastboot oem lock
Hi! Please I really need your experience
I will receive my new Mi 4c with the Bootloader Unlocked from the re seller , Rooted and with Multi language ROM.
Do I have to unlock the bootloader with the official method (which means flashing Cina Dev ROM -to re lock the bootloader- and go on with the Xiaomi's code procedure..) or it is possible to get all things done as soon I get my device by choosing an unofficial weekly miui.eu international ROM and install it normally from the Updater app but also be able to update it every week via Updater without issues?
My problem with flashing is that I don't have my laptop and the one I have now runs win xp.

1. i suppose no, it will only brick if you have TWRP recovery flashed to recovery partition. My workaround is to never flash TWRP in the first place, but boot to TWRP from Fastboot every time i want to flash something. definitely a hassle but should be guaranteed to work. Never tried though, i am fine with CM ROM and unlocked bootloader.
2. If i read correctly, the latest dev ROM will lock the bootloader back. So if you want to unlock, you must flash the old MIUI version as suggested in the unofficial unlock method again.

you can unlock via unofficial method. Win XP should be able to flash it. CMIIW though
Thanks but it's not necessary anymore ..I've changed the Mi4c with Mi4.

Help updating NXT-L29 Rom: NXT-C900B320 to Nougat via SD Card Update.app method

Hi I've tried using several NXT-L29 Nougat roms but they all fail
Notes:
- My device is not rooted and I can't root because several business apps I use won't run on rooted phones (banking, etc)
- If the OTA update for this ROM is available in the next month I don't mind waiting.
- I've successfully updated my ROM twice before by putting an update.app in the dload folder on my SD Card
- I don't care if I have to restore my phone from a backup and lose my data
- I've tried downloading several NX-L29 and NXT-L29 Nougat firmware and none of them have worked.
- I tried unlocking my bootloader using several methods (including paid ones) and was unsuccessful
I'm only after an official stock firmware and would like to just copy the update.app to a dload folder on my sd card to update unless there is another safe method.
I suspect I'm just using the wrong ROMs or perhaps missing a step.
Can anyone point me to which ROM I should use or give me any tips on how to get around the problems I'm having?
You and update via UPDATE. APP
I'm in the same boat as well...
I want to upgrade but don't want to root.
I am tempted to use firmware finder to load it across and install it via the system updater...
I thought the official update would be released by q1 2017 so the end of March....

I downloaded an udate usg a firmware download app. It did update my device, but bluetooth isn't working and it gives an error when booting. I'm trying to now wipe it and start from scratch by unlocking the boot loader and using twrp.
Whats the best Nougat ROM to use and where can I get it? I tried downloading my old ROM do downgrade but couldn't find it anywhere and I have so many roms I've tried they all got mixed up and I don't know which one to use.. I'd go back to B320 if I could, but would prefer to move forward with a stable, compatible version of Nougat. Any suggestions on which ROM to try and where to get it?
Which rom ur phone now working on

Any possible way to unbrick my phone?

Hello, guys. I bought two of these phones. BLN-AL30 VERSION is the one that I was using for a while. I tried to unlock its bootloader and it was a complete success. I remember that my phone said BLL-L22 in its about device section and not BLN-AL30 though. I proceeded to install TWRP and rooted it, I also backed up all the partitions so I decided to go for the elite version (TWRP, for I wanted to install their room). Everything was ok. I installed the elite rom which I thought was cool and I used it for a while. Then I decided to switch into slim ROM. I had made the proper back up also and still have them files. I backed up everything because I realized the elite ROM asked for a complete wiping. The next thing I realized was that my phone wouldn't be able to install the slim rom because I had this error:
Unable to wipe vendor /vendor command not allowed.
It also happened with product and version partition. And sometimes it said unable to mount /vendor. (The same for product, version)...
Now, I can't install any other room because of that. And I have downloaded many update.app files to recover and heal my phone as stock but it seems impossible. I have bought another honor 6x and it's coming the next month because I loved this phone but also because if bricked but unrecoverable I'd like to have its parts in case of some repair needed. Is there anyway to recover it? it's so sad. I never thought elite rom would do that to my phone. I assure I followed every single step from its thread. Thanks in advance. Hope you can help.
try to formate data then go to main main screen reboot to recovery now wipe everything. if it is not working then try previous version of elite TWRP or Berlin TWRP. if nothing works then u need to do dload. but u r saying dload is also not working still u have two solutions. download oem info of another region and flash it via TWRP u can try oem info for bln-l22c675b340 https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-debranding-to-india-variant-bln-t3679402 now Google for bln-l22c675b340 firmware download it then unzip update app file. now Flash oem info file in TWRP then using sd card flash update app by pressing 3 buttons. this time it will install for sure. if oem file failed to install then extract the oem file then download srk tool put both files in restore folder connect your phone in fastboot restore oem info will work for sure. there is no way to brick honor 6x lot of rescue methods available if this fails still you can use hwota8 method to upgrade oreo.
Thank I'm going to try that

Can't update through OTA after flashing DM-Verity zip

Hi. As the title suggests, today I ran into an issue regarding OTA update.
Recently I unlocked my phone's bootloader to use GCam Mod, but first I had to enable camera2api which I did by temporarily booting PB Recovery from fastboot and flashed the disable dm_verity.zip and then the camera2apienable zip. I rebooted the phone and the temporary PB Recovery was replaced by stock xiaomi recovery.
All was fine until today I received an update to MIUI 10.2.1.0. I downloaded the OTA from the updater and let it reboot for installation. Almost half-way through the update, the procedure halted with an error "ERROR APPLYING UPDATE" in the stock recovery. I've retried several times, even redownloading the OTA but ut gives the same error everytime. The fine boots fine afterwards, not being updated.
Since this is my first Xiaomi phone, I'm seeking a method to correctly update my phone to the latest version without screwing it up or being ended up bricked.
Any guide as to what I shall do so to update my phone (e.g. re-enable dmverity; flashing stock ROM?) will be highly appreciated. TIA.
I don't know how to re enable DM verity. But I ws on EU beta rom. I decided to install global beta rom. Then I installed it with MiFlash. Now I'm using global beta rom, and updated it half an hour ago without problems with internal updater.
I checked status of phone with fastboot command, and it shows DM verity: True.
Download the official tgz update and flash via fastboot (or MiFlash with the chance of relocking your bootloader).

Does updating via the MiFlash Tool also resets the device i.e. deletes all my installed apps or is it more like a doing a dirty flash? I know there are 3 options while flashing but I just want to know what the keep data option means. Thanks.
You aren't attempting to flash a different variation (i.e. Stable>Dev -or- Euro>China), but at the same time, you've altered the system, so a dirty flash probably won't work out. If you want to remain unlocked with your fancy GCam, avoid MiFlash altogether. I suggest looking into a MiGlobe ROM. They keep up with Stable stock OTAs and customization is optional. Good luck
