Hello all! Quick questions for you :) - Nokia 7 Questions & Answers

Hi all guys!
I am considering to get the Nokia 7 however I am still not 100% sure because of the non-localization it provides. I would appreciate if you could answer some of my questions to help me out decide:
1. Is the stock rom multilanguage? If not, is there a multilanguage rom to be flashed?
2. What about the band 20 (800mhz)? Did anyobody realize if it is a hardware limitation or only software (i see that in a few Xiaomi devices like the Mi 5c they managed to unlock it). Is anybody working on it?
3. What should one do to localize it in Europe? Installing Playstore, G services and gapps?
Basically, would you recommend it as a good buy in Europe? I really like it more than the Nokia 7+ because of its form factor.
Thanks to all of those who will help me out

Hi Andy, I bought it on LightintheBox, I did not know the phone, but I got it anyway because I liked it. Now I need China Rom to enable updates from HMD GLOBAL. They told me it's Global version, but it's really raw as an operating system. This Global version does not update. For now is not good for Europe without updates. I'm living in Italy so there is no band 20 (800mhz).

Hi Andy,
I brought mine from coolicool last month and
1. yes, it does come with a multilanguage rom... which cannot be stock because that is chinese+english only. upon startup the phone lapses into an endless "checking for updates" cycle but it can be circumvented (see above topic) after which it works normally.
2. B20 (800mhz) does not seem to be supported by the hardware. that said, the phone works flawlessy on both 3G and 4G (vodafone), handles wifi and data well, comes with google's basics installed and downdoads/updates apps via playstore as it should.
3. based on my (limited) experience, i do recommend it.
pros: well designed and built, runs smoothly, no bloatware, bargain for USD 250
cons: not exactly international (might not see the android 8 update already out for the chinese version), system takes up 17GB (!) of internal memory

hi i bought a nokia 7 global rom from china and the rom causes a lot of problems .So i advise you to go for the chinese/english version and get ota updates and install google play apk file. Now i have flashed back to stock firmware(chinese/english) and now the phone works properly on android 8.1.0. .About band 20 i think is working
here in sweden as far as i know.I think it is a good buy if it is on stock rom(chinese/english) version so good luck

Difference between 701, 702, & 703?

Hello all. New Mediapad X2 owner here (well, almost - been waiting over a week now for it to be delivered). I've done a lot of searching but haven't found a definitive answer as to what the difference between the various models is.
I live in Germany & will be using this device mainly here with the occasional stint in England & all the cute little countries between them, maybe also if I eventually decide to go back to Australia for a holiday or something.
I currently own (& use daily) a Samsung Galaxy Note that I got when they first came out back in December 2011 (if memory serves me correctly!), and have used several ROMs over the years, finally settling on the most excellent CM13 from local member Bauner, so have a little experience with flashing.
So my newb questions are -
1) What's the difference between the 3 models?
2) Can the Mediapad be successfully/easily/officially updated to Android v6 without playing with bootloaders & root?
3) Does anyone have experience with screen casting (Miracast or such)?
4) Has anyone successfully got USB Ethernet adapter working?
Thanks .
701 is for Europe with Band 20(800MHz)but stuck on 5.0
702&703 have not Band 20.
You can all Three Versions install Twrp and root.
702 hab 6.0 Beta and 703 Android 6.0
I have 703 in Austria,my Provider use not the Band 20 (“3“)
703 is full with China Apps and no Playstore on it,but we can delete the Apps with root and Google Apps install.
Or you can convert the 701 or 702 in 703 to use the last Android Version, the most Updates comes for 703.
I use 702 Firmware on 703.no China Apps installed and Google Playstore is installed,is Android 6 Beta but works good with no Problem
Thanks for the reply Letschky, I'll just have to wait to see which version I get. I ordered it over a week ago from Saturn but it still hasn't arrived :'(. They said it's coming direct from the supplier - China maybe lol!
I use Aldi Talk (Medion/E-Plus) and I asked them which bands I would need but they were extremely vague and just basically said "all phones will work" , so not sure if I need Band 20 or not.

Oppo r15 Pro Android P

Anybody got it to work?
I'm over Coloros already (sick of the security, want vanilla android)
I downloaded Android P but it says Flash Failed when I try to flash it in (Coloros) recovery.
Yeah, I have it running on mine, but it's the first beta, so a bunch of stuff isn't working, hoping they will release a new rom soon...
What version of the phone do you guys have? Mine is the Australian one from Optus. I assume it doesnt automatically update the beta version like my Nexus 6P did when I enrolled in the program?
I also am getting annoyed with ColorOS as it has broken so many simple things my previous phone did e.g. Google Photos no longer wants to sync, calendar doesnt send me reminder notifications, googles alarm clock no longer works etc.
Would love to flash to stock android that automatically updated and be able to ditch ColorOS as overall the phones hardware seems very decent.
My main concern is the instructions say only Chinese phones should use that upgrade process and its impossible to revert without sending it to service in China. I am an IT Professional but I have never tried to flash with a custom rom in the past so a little wary of bricking my brand new phone =P
My model is CPH1831

Hey there Vyviel,
I have the Oppo R15 Pro CPH1831 also and purchased it outright from JB HiFi a couple of weeks back now - carrier is Telstra.
This is my very first Android device after having shifted over from a 6s Plus... I will say that I personally don't mind this ColorOS business ATM but then again I am unfamiliar with any of this custom ROM business... You are right about the hardware though... for let's say $600 AUD less than the Samsung Galaxy S9 it stands pretty tall in the spec department for the price of $779.
I am also in IT... that is to say that I have been tinkering now for about 15 years and at present I have 4 and a half units remaining on my Bachelor of IT degree.
Like yourself... I have not flashed a custom ROM, rooted an Android based device or recovered back to out of the box state in case one might need to get that all important warranty back in the game if the process manages to kick you in the proverbial sack... so we are in the same boat in not wanting to create a mid range in the expense scale paperweight.
I would really like to know how to do all of this in the safest way possible though and to be quite honest am finding it somewhat difficult to find a great deal of info on this phone.
I'm willing to share a few links that I have found in relation to flashing a ROM on one of these things if you wanna send me a PM (I'm unsure of the legalities of posting links here as I have only just joined XDA)... I'm not 100% sure of what to trust when it comes to the links (one is a Vietnamese site I believe) and all of these processes in general but it would be good to get a second opinion.
Anyways... this post is starting to read a bit like a book so I'll leave it at that for now.
Cheers mate
PS: Nothing against the Vietnamese people intended whatsoever - peace out

You aren't only here buddy, tried flashing my phone as well. Didn't work, got the same error. I think it's for the Chinese version of the phone, I'm not entirely sure.
Agreed, bought phone outright. No carrier/network lock. I've had it a week and also I am over the colour os!! I have had a bit of trouble with compatibility with my other home devices like screen mirroring, cloning/switching device data, Wi-Fi stabilisation etc... But have discovered that most option menus change and have slot more options if you have developer mode active whilst browsing through the setup menus.. Especially with device connections!!
But all in all I think I just want a normal android rom that will look like every other android menus but will utilise this devices nice hardware specs considering it bang for your buck price point!!
Sometimes you have to relise expectations and reality get clouded by hope...
Need Link to firmware - Oppo R15 Pro for latest Android P Beta
I happened to have the Chinese version (I believe). Can anyone post the link to the firmware being discussed on here?

Android 9 has been out officially for more than a month I wonder why the lazy Oppo developers have still not released a software update for it. ColorOS is pure trash just give me stock Android 9.

ColorOS and Oppo aren't exactly known for their "immediate updates" if you wanted the stock experience and quick updates why not pick the Pixel?

Because the Pixel phones are an absolute ripoff for mediocre hardware. Google lost their way after the Nexus 6P.
Next time I will go for a OnePlus =)
Is it possible to use new android P on the ' OPPO R15 ' ? (not the pro version)
my phone (oppo r15) runs on color os 5.0 so i thought i could update the android version to ' Android P ' so that the chinese version will be gone.. so i can finally use the google app and services, guys does it work on the oppo r15?
Yeah i'm wanting to know this as well! ColourOS seems to be a pretty big limitation although judging on the firmware difference (CPH1835 vs CPH1831) i'm unsure if i can flash Android P yet.. anyone have a definitive answer?

i believe it's because of the money...
I've had the May 2018 P Beta on a R15 Pro Chinese since... forever. It's pure trash, 80% of apps don't work due to mysterious crashes. It has not received an update at all since May 2018.
So now we either use trash ColorOS on which it is impossible to install GPlay on because of weird proprietary security, or we use near-stock but almost useless P beta. Either way it's almost a brick.

now you can get Coloros 6(https://www.coloros.com/topic/coloros6.html)
which has completely different UI from Coloros5.2/5.0, enough of too many bugs in Android P beta also , but things got changed now
They sure are taking their time with coloros 6. Im reading it should have been released in May but still nothing confirmed. I will never buy an oppo again as this is bad. Android Q (10) will be released soon and oppo is struggling to release android 9. What a joke.
Agreed #perryano. Their hardware is fantastic, but this ColorOS BS just destroys the whole experience and controls everything you want to do like the PRC. If I could just run vanilla Android, I would be a happy camper.

Android Work Profile (AWP) with GMS hack

Hi All,
My company is enforcing Android Work Profile (AWP) where all work related apps and resources (Outlook, Microsoft Authenticator, Teams, OneDrive, etc) will be separated from the other apps.
With that being said, I have to install Microsoft Company Portal Application to do that. As soon as I start configuring the AWP on my Huawei Mate 30 5G, it checks for the certification of the Play Store which will definitely fail on my mobile because I have manually installed the Google Play Store although I did not get this notification before when Play Store was installed manually.
Will this AWP thing work with the hack that we use to install google play store manually?
appreciate your input
Hi, we use intune forced work profile but even with the GMS hack working, it would not complete the installation of AWP and eventually had to give up. It was the main reason I changed to a Mi 10 Ultra. Such a shame as my P40 Pro plus is, was, a beautiful phone.

for me if I go through the installation of AWP through the company portal, this apparently checks if the play store is certified or not, and then when it detects it is not certified , i start getting the certification error from the google play store and the company portal fails to complete the installation of AWP.
I am planning to move away as well from Huawei if there is no fix for this.
There will be no resolution, USA are not going to allow Huawei to access Google framework apps for sometime and now Huawei have spent so much money on their own OS, they are not going backwards. Unless Microsoft have worked with the new OS, then there is not going to anything we can do.
It is a shame these phones are superb but if you can't use GMS or unlock the bootloader, then there will not be any custom ROMs or development for them, so it's no good for me. I'm one of the people who need GMS for work like you, so with regret it was bye bye Huawei, hello Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and the super EU ROM. Full GMS and of course, a full working, see screenshot attached. Good luck my friend.

Isn't Mi 10 ultra is just for China market? How did you get the GMS installed on it?
Yes, but there is a great community who transcribe the ROMs to an EU version for all Xiaomi mi and Redmi phones. Xiaomi are great in that they encourage custom ROMs and unlocking of bootloaders ( all though it has to be done through their servers and it makes you wait 168 hours between request and unlocking).
Mi10 Ultra is lacking a couple of European LTE radio bands like band 20 which I use for O2 but I don't miss it, 3G is just as fast as 4G where I live but my 3G is still good to watch streaming services as most are now using 4G. I bought mine from Wondamobile who put a smaller version of GMS on and it works well but once you flash the EU ROM, you get official GMS. And as the USA have no issues with Xiaomi, there is not much chance of any restrictions coming to them.

China vs Global ROMS

Hello. Im planning to upgrade my phone to a 'gaming phone'. Which as follows:
Red Magic 6, Lenovo Legion Duel 2, Xiaomi mi 11 Pro, Asus ROG 5, Black shark 4 pro?
The main problem is with software updates. From what I can find online, about 3 of the 5 phones listed, have really bad support. Pretty sure some older models are still stuck on android 9 and 10 on the global versions. While on the CN version, they are regularly updated.
So I was wondering if I could use the CN ROM instead, if support for the global ROM dont exist. If anyone with experience could share the pros and cons or insights, it would greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I sound really noob, because when it comes to mods and stuff, I have no experience at all. I would have gone the easier route with samsung, but these phones have specs that I am interested in trying out. Just that it would suck if I missed out on future android updates, like android 12 or something.
Thanks yall.

I think global roms are better than China roms here's why
First reason why global roms has google apps pre-installed
While china roms only have google apps installed on older china roms devices the newer phones with china rom does not have google apps pre-installed u could try flashing a custom rom to get google Apps pre-installed but I don't know exactly if it's gonna work
Second reason why global rom Is better is the bugs
On china rom their more bugs than global rom
Third reason why it's better is how it feels global roms feels better than China roms because global rom feels faster than China rom

did hou get your device from trading shenzen? are there any differences to Chinese version of the devices? if you got the device from them, can you fast boot flash global or any other version?
sorry for the off topic
I got it from eBay, if you want i can send you the link.
They did the bootloader unlock and pre-installed the EU ROM, i just fastboot updated it.
My unit is the China version, so you can't flash global rom and lock the bootloader, so EU ROM is the best option.
with Chinese version ROM, are there any downsides? I am just worried if I have unlocked bootloader, Google pay will stop working eventually or won't at all as it does on custom ROM s
please share the link

Well the EU ROM makes google and banking apps think that the bootloader is locked, so as long as the developers will continue to make updates there shouldn't be any problems. but check here more posts lots of people talking about China vs Global.
i just discovered that global version have eSim support...
Well, I live in Europe and that missing 4G frequency B20 might be pretty essential, I might just wait until they lower the price on Global device. They will eventually, it has been just a month since the device released.

One more day that i would consider bad. Is there a way to check why is android system consuming most battery?
Wi-Fi is more energy intensive than data especially for streaming and downloads.

I am getting about 7 SOT and I am OK with that.

Is it actually true, and makes any sense "for a normal user"?
I always thought and lived in that mindset that data drains more, (and it makes more sense for me) due to that when you travel around, and the connection to the cellular towers always changing, sometimes back-and forth.
