[GUIDE] How to install any A1 rom into the 5X. - Xiaomi Mi 5X Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm not a native english speaker, so my grammar may not be perfect. Corrections are highly appreciated.
In this guide I will explain step by step how you can install almost any A1 rom into the 5X. You will need a PC, no matter if it's running Windows, Linux, or OSX.
Step 0. Unlock your bootloader.
Step 1. Download Android Platform Tools. Extract it somewhere, and then add them to the path (If you dont know how: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000549.htm Just remember to add the correct path to where you extracted APT).
Step 2. Download and flash modded TWRP.
Step 3. Download A1 ROM. Extract it and open the folder. You will see lots of scripts and another folder called images. Just stay on the main folder (Where all the scripts are placed).
Step 4. Download correspondent flash script and place it among the other scripts.
Windows: https://pastebin.com/raw/g3HTtVHs (Save it as flash_5x.bat)
Linux: https://pastebin.com/raw/2cvRb3gn (Save it as flash_5x.sh)
Step 5. Put your phone into fastboot mode (While powered off, keep pressed vol down button and power button. Connect your phone to the computer using your USB cable. Execute the downloaded script.
Step 6. When it finishes flashing the rom, you will be prompted to press a key to continue. Hold volume up button on the phone, and then press any key on the computer to continue and reboot the phone. Holding vol up will make your phone to boot into recovery.
Step 7. Once on TWRP, swipe to allow modifications if prompted. Then, go to wipe > advanced wipe and wipe dalvik and cache. If this is your first time installing the rom (not updating) you should wipe data partition too. Once wiped, go back to Advanced tab, then press on Terminal. Write "a1to5x" and tap on Enter. Wait until it finishes.
Thats all, just reboot and enjoy your updated ROM.
You can also flash modded roms, for doing so, you will need to extract payload.bin (which is inside the rom zip file) using this script and manually flash correspondent partitions. Then skip to step 7.

extracting the payload.bin doesn't work with the payload_dumper.py script for me. (copied script into bat). Can you help please?

Could you make a guide to install cuatom rom from mi a1 step by step? Tank

Is this method works with A1 custom kernels too?

please guide us also. thanks

This thread guides you how to flash the official A1 rom to X5. So with this guidance, you can always flash the latest A1 rom to X5 without waiting for a ported rom made by other guys.
The another thread is regarding how to flash a ported rom. And the rom mentioned in that thread has already been out of dated.

@Aex12, do you have payload_dumper.py for windows, tried the above script but it got "Module not Found error", thank you.

[STOCK ROM][LB] Huawei Ascend P2 - B021

I've finally managed to find another copy of the stock Ascend P2 firmware [P2-6011V100R001C00B021]
Flashing is easy, just copy the dload folder to the root of your internal memory and use the system update app to apply a local update.
The ROM can be rooted using eRoot.
More tweaks and other mods for this rom will follow soon.
Downloads:
P2-6011V100R001C00B021
eroot v1.3.3
Thank you Angelbob! I can finally have the B021 update
Very cool I assume I can flash it even if I've removed some of the stock Apks from my current rom?
By the way there's a p2tools apk on the server- Whats it for?
Mine fails to update, after the system reboots in the Android recovery system.
Fails to mount E: /SDcard. Runs through the "checking module" stuff, and after Checking module Cust it writes Huawei SD card update fail..
and continues
cust copying files...
copy cust files successed!
and then the huge
FAIL.
I'm probably doing something wrong but what could it be?
Try a factory reset first
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
How well does this ROM work?
EDIT: I also cannot get this ROM installed.
Could it be because I am already running BO25?
I tried factory resetting as you suggested to the other person, it made no difference.
Tried factory reset also, made no difference
Mine updated fine.
I thought this would remove the silly operator logo that comes up when i turn on my phone and remove all the apps installed by the operator, but it's all still there.
Is this just a 'kernel' update or am i missing something here?
Thanks.

You ought to try this method to downgrade your ROM.
1) your P2 must have root access;
2) find in the "default.prop" file (you'll find it in the "/" directory) and change "B025" to "B020" for example:
ro.confg.hw_bootversion=P2-6011V100R001C00B025...
3) find in the "build.prop" file and change all "B025" to "B020" for example:
ro.confg.hw_systemversion=P2-6011V100R001C00B025_SYSTEM
ro.build.display.id=P2-6011V100R001C00B025
ro.build.version.incremental=C00B025
ro.build.description=P2-6011-user 4.1.2 HuaweiP2-6011 C00B025 ota-rel-keys,
ro.build.fingerprint=Huawei/hwp2-6011:4.1.2/HuaweiP2/C00B025
ro.product.CustDVersion=B025 (here can be any other values, these are only for example).
Having changed all the above-mentioned values, you will be able to downgrade your B025 ROM to B021. Just remember, that a ROM version in the edited "default.prop" and "build.prop" must be lower than a ROM version which you want to downgrade to.
Good luck!

[ROOT] Moto X Style - XT1572 BR - Marshmallow

Hello guys!
I make my own ROOT (systemless, thanks for Chainfire) images for Moto X Style with Marshmallow (build MPH24.49-18). Its use "experimental" systemless SuperSU version 2.56 - more info on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63197935&postcount=2. No need replace bootloader or recovery. Still need unlocked booloader.
Because TWRP didn't work in this version of bootloader (0xA048), I cooked "su.img" in a Linux box and used "/data/local/tmp" as bridge (accessible by ADB).
WARNING! I am not responsible for any harm on your phone. When you're not sure if you can do it, leave it!
For use, you need
1) unlocked bootloader.
2) if your bootloader not unlocked, make sure you have copy of your data, because this process will erase your device.
3) install ADB and FASTBOOT on your pc using minimal ADB or Android SDK.
4) install ADB drivers from Motorola or Universal ADB.
5) download provided files.
6) download SuperSU ver. 2.56 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344.
Steps:
1) extract files in a folder of your choice (su.img, boot.img).
2) extract Superuser.apk from SuperSU-v2.56-20151030013730.zip from common folder.
3) enable USB debugging on Android.
4) connect your device on pc.
5) open a command prompt in a new folder.
6) type "adb push su.img /data/local/tmp" without quotes.
7) type "adb install Superuser.apk" without quotes.
8) now reboot your device into fastboot mode by typing "adb reboot bootloader".
9) type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" without quotes.
10) type "fastboot reboot" without quotes.
And enjoy!
Now you have a rooted MotoX Style Marshmallow. To apply any OTAs, you only need reflash stock boot.

Do I still need to unlock the bootloader in order to root this device

Yes, work with XT1575.
I dont test on another device, only on XT1572.
After 24h, no errors, work like a charm.
With this approuch you dont need to downgrade bootloader.
assuming that we need a "CLEAN", unrooted system for this as advised by @Chainfire in his instructional post regarding this experimental root method!
Instructions
You must absolutely re-flash your stock /system partition, or the separate root instances will interfere with each other. The installer for this experiment will not clean up old root files.
- Flash stock /system
- Flash the attached boot image
- Flash the attached SuperSU ZIP in TWRP

Also you should probably make a point of mentioning that this method is an experiment.
Aside from this, let me take my "high-visibility" jacket off, along with my "safety helmet" and say thank you very much for taking the time to do this for us all @ivcarlos! You are a gentleman!
Is Android pay confirmed working with this root method?

I dnt know because I dnt use this feature.
@Doktaphex
I dnt mentioned this - clean and unrooted system - because after apply OTA on XT1572, custom recovery (TWRP) didn't work anymore. By the way, I assume no root and clean system.
I know this method is "experimental", but it's best at this time, without downgrade bootloader (not safe).
Thanks for comments! I make this work because I need root and I dnt like to make heavy changes on smart...
In this way, I share for everyone.

@gulshanstrider
I make boot image based on post of Chainfire (http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/wip-android-6-0-marshmellow-t3219344), with applying steps:
1) unpack stock "boot.img";
2) patch sepolicy;
3) edit "init.rc" and "init.environ.rc";
4) edit "file_contexts";
5) repack "boot.img".
Use Chainfire generated images with model.
Without TWRP, I cooked "su.img" in a Linux box, and use "/data/local/tmp" with bridge.

I make this image for my XT1572 (BR, dual) and wifi working.
To revert back you must write back stock boot.img version. On first post I provided stock of XT1572 RETLA 6.0 (my base).
On my device no issues at all.
Not working on my XT1572

6. Transfer the patched boot image from step 5 to PC using 'adb pull'
7. Boot the phone into download mode and flash the patched boot image.
8. Reboot and enjoy!!"
Where/how can I get the correct boot.img för my device?
My version is "1.10.401.23 9.0_g CL991677 release-keys" and none of the download links match my version? Or can I use some of them anyway?
I would be very happy and thanksful if I got help so I can get root access!

5. Click install and choose to use "patch the stock boot image" method. It will browse you to /sdcard. Choose the boot.img from step 3. After its done, it will give you path of patched boot image.
Best regards/ David

I think yours is the Europe model. If so, download the following ZIP:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620770441
Extract firmware.zip from it, and you will then extract boot.img from the firmware.zip, and then, patch that in magisk manager. Hope that helps!

Many thanks!
I should have a European model. If I'm looking in the Download mode:
"htc_ocmdugl PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.0000
RADIO 8998-002772-1711021849
OpenDSP-UNKNOWN
OS 1.10.401.23
Nov 25 2017.01: 13: 33 (991677)"
If something goes wrong, or if it would be the wrong boot.img, can I flash a complete RUU via adb fastboat so I dont brick my phone?

That link matches your version exactly. You should be good with boot.img from that ZIP. Make backup of your stuff and be very careful with commands you fire...

Hmm.. It is 25 pcs. compressed zip-files in this download.
In one of the zip there is "boot_signed.img"
It must be it. But when I try to unzip it doesn't work. It says the file is corrupt [emoji852]️.
I will try to download the file again, mayby the download failed.
Edit: The file is corrupt. I cant unzip it

You need RUU decrypt tool to retrieve the boot and recovery image
Root HTC U11+ European model software number 1.10.401.23
To root your HTC U11+ thru twrp use version 3.2.0.0
1. make sure you got Magisk-15.2 on you sd-card
2. boot into TWRP and leave system read only
3.goto install and install Magisk (in my case 15.2)
4. you will get error, like "can't mount data" (not to worry)
5. after install GO BACK!! DO NOT REBOOT!!
6. format data AND THEN reboot!!
7 You'll have to setup your phone as a new one; finish that and install Magisk_Manager
8 your now rooted!!! check with root checker
Hope this will help you;

I have unlocked my bootloader, installed twrp. Unfortunately, twrp is worthless since it can not be used as it seems...
Now I wonder if I can use this guide to root my phone:
"1. Download http://fotadl-az.htc.com/secure/OTA_...bbi6tc9m38.zip
Edit / Important: Read next post down below before Step 2/
2. Extract firmware.zip.
3. Extract boot.img from firmware.zip from step 2 and transfer to the /sdcard.

Need boot.img FRD-L09 B404

Hello everyone.
I unlocked a bootloader in my freshly bought Honor 8 last week and I the first thing I did was to flash a root package (obviously). I'm used to SuperSU, so tha's what I flashed. Then I found out about Magisk. I want to try it, but I need to flash stock boot.img in order to install it. My build number is FRD-L09C432B404 (EMUI 5.0, Android 7.0). Could anyone upload corresponding boot img? I'd be thankful.
Do it yourself! ^^

Hello!
You can do it yourself, just follow these steps:
1) Download your firmware (update.zip) from hicloud url: update.zip
2) Extract zip
3) Download "Huawei Update Extractor 0.9.9.5" (zip file): HuaweiUpdateExtractor_0.9.9.5.zip
4) Extract zip
5) Open "HuaweiUpdateExtractor.exe" extracted from previous step
6) Click on the 2 dots button and navigate to the file to add the "UPDATE.APP" file ( extracted from step 2) ), it will show you all the files like boot.img , recovery.img , recovery2.img , system.img , etc.
7) Select "BOOT.img" and right-click > "Extract Selected". Choose this destination folder: Where fastboot/adb are installed.
8) Use fastboot command to flash "BOOT.img":
Code:
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
Hope it helps you!
I'd rather not download 1.3GB of firmware for the sake of one small boot.img which can't be bigger than 50MBs, not to mention additional software I'll use probably never again, so I'd be thankful if someone sent already extracted boot

( Because I have nothing more important to do tonight lol )
Thanks for your support. I had to extract it anyways for stock recovery, so here it is in case someone needed it.

[GUIDE] Install official Pixel Expierene ROM and Google Camera Mod 7.x

Welcome to my latest Thread. Today for the Official Pixel Expierence Builds from the Official Website. This Guide does include the Installation of a custom Recovery which allows Factory Resets and flashing Updates/ROMs. Enjoy!
1. Download and prepare everything
First of all visit: https://developer.sony.com/file/dow...-aosp-android-10-0-kernel-4-14-kumano-latest/
And download the latest Software Binaries from Sony which You will need to flash together with the Boot Image (Kernel).
After that download the ROM File from here: https://download.pixelexperience.org/ and also download the "Recovery Image" which is a Kernel/Boot Image
Get the Magisk Manager Apk from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
Extract the Software Binaries to get the .img File from it.
2. Flash using Fastboot
After getting the Kernel/Boot Image do a patch with the Magisk Manager App (Your Phone doesn't needs to be rooted for that) (The Output File will get called magisk_patched,img from now)
Flash the Software Binaries from SONY with:
Code:
fastboot flash oem_a SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android...............img
Repeat that step with:
Code:
fastboot flash oem_b SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android...............img
Now flash the Kernel You got from the Magisk Manager with:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched.img
And repeat that again for the Second Slot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b magisk_patched.img
3. Install using a SD Card or ADB
After flashing the Kernel. Turn Off Your Device and hold the Volume- (Lower) Button together with the Power Button until You see the SONY Logo. Release both Buttons and wait for the Recovery coming up.
Search now for the Apply Update Option and select based on Your preference the ADB or SD Card Method to flash the ROM. Connect Your Xperia to Your PC again and enter:
Code:
adb sideload filename.zip
(In case of using the ADB Method)
Your Device should now flash the selected ZIP File (In our case the Pixel Expierence ROM).
4. Profit
Wipe Your Device now using the Factory Reset of the Recovery. Install the Magisk Patched Kernel Image again using the commands of the second Step of this Guide to keep Magisk functional. Connect Your Phone to a Charger and install the latest Magisk Manager to Your Phone. That's it! Enjoy
What Works:
VoLTE
Wifi Calls
Video Calls over Carrier
Camera Button (Does not start Camera Apps)
Everything!?
Bugs:
None!?

Yes. I think there is some Kernel Panic. Not sure but battery life could also be better right?
Think I can fix some stuff with MARS pretty soon.
Google Camera works just fine from Urnyx btw. First Time we can use GCAM 7.x fully!

It feels so simple but I got You. I'm still not sure how I should do it. I have a PC, a Chromebook and a Xperia 5 for recording. While the Xperia needs to get flashed (not usable as Camera). I could make a Video with My Chromebook maybe in 720p and combine it with Screen recording somehow. I'm not a YouTuber but I will give it a shot this week... Promised!
Xperia 1 - J8110, J8170, J9110, 802SO, SO-03L, SOV40 variants - what are they?
and what variant PE Rom support official?
Updated the Guide.
@JOKER.SOHA It's printed on the back of Your Xperia (Bottom). Model Numbers... Choose the right one for You. Don't understand the rest of Your question... Sorry

Looks promising will try after the battery drain/lag is fixed. Also will this room be maintained or is it just take it how it is? Great work either way!

Yeah the drain sucks, but great ROM so far. I'm satisfied and use it as daily driver. You can find the Device Maintainers over the Pixel Expierence Website. This is just a Guide Thread since we don't have TWRP. So the Maintainer is free to open up a official Development Thread but they haven't yet... Someone could ask maybe, it's just copy and paste and would help to talk about Bugs and such

Ahh okay np. Hopefully things will smooth out.
I found PixelExperience's J9110 Install Step and did some comparison.
(Sorry I'm not allowed to post a link by now, but it's easy to find on PE's website.)
PE's install step mentioned that flash PE need to unlocked BL, but your guide didn't mention.
And your guide have a kernel flash step, but PE's install tutorial missing this.
Here is my question:
Is it necessary to unlock the BL? (Because I did this to my old Xperia XZ once, there's a LOT problem for me lol)
Is it necessary to flash latest kernel?
Thanks in advance.

It isn't possible to flash anything besides Stock in Flashmode with a locked Bootloader. That's one of the Basic Things on Android. That's why it isn't mentioned here... You should carefully learn how everything works before thinking about to flash anything on Your Device...
The Pixel Expierence Guides for Xperias are wrong and do Not Work btw. That's the reason for My Guides...
Best Regards

Hi, rom maintainer here, just to precise that a kernel panic would totally freeze your phone and you'll be unable to do anything except force reboot your phone.
Also, responding on another thing I saw on this thread, the only reason I don't open an xda thread per device supported is that I would have to update like 25 threads every month, respond the same questions for all those threads over and over etc
I have my telegram for that t.me/PixelExperienceSony
I might do 1 thread for all devices in cross platform dev section.
Cheers
can someone please make a step by step YouTube YouTube guide? I tried to follow the instructions with little sucess
Totally missed the dtbo.img flashing which prevents the Device from booting. You will need that Tool: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850510260
To extract the payload.bin file inside of the Pixel Expierence Zips. Put the Payload Bin in the Input Folder and Start the Exe to extract the Bin File. You will get a dtbo.img file which you will need to flash like:
fastboot flash dtbo_a dtbo.img
fastboot flash dtbo_b dtbo.img
Together with the boot/magisk Images which will allow You to boot into the Recovery Mode by holding VolumeDOWN & the Power Button
Enjoy and sorry for the trouble! I will also update this Threads next just like My Rooting Threads.
